It was love at first sight for Random Row and I, no question about it! The atmosphere is just great. It has a rustic/ industrial vibe with the mix of the wood and metals, which I just absolutely love. There is a ton of space and a lot of different seating options, but it was already crowded at 1pm on its second day of being officially opened. Not crowded in a bad way, but in a way that it should be full at 1pm on a Saturday when college football is on TV. Anyways, it doesn't surprise me. They've got a great venue and fantastic beer from what I was able to try. The Doughboy Dunkel was a favorite of mine, being that I'm a fan of all thing malty, especially as the weather cools down. The staff seemed nothing but friendly and helpful, and there are even other options offered, like cold brew coffee, for example. There wasn't a food truck present when we were there, but looking at the schedule, it looks like they will be there pretty often. Thurs-Sunday by the looks of it. Also a big deal for me- they have the option for 10 oz and 4 oz beers if you aren't wanting a whole Pint. This makes me very happy, as I often like to try a couple different beers, but don't have a big enough stomach (or a high enough alcohol tolerance) to try full pints of several beers! The first thing to note about random row is that they serve their flights on slices of log with spots for each of the beers. They typically have eight beers on tap but their flights are only for 4/5/6 beers. They are usually happy to accommodate a request for a flight of all eight though. The space is very clean and open and the staff are friendly. Right behind the bar they have a lot of their brewing equipment but it is set up in a clean way. The bar offers some snacks and apparently they have food trucks there some times (I have never been there at a food truck time). They are also pretty relaxed about you bringing in your own food or snacks. The beers themselves are good and well rounded for the most part. The Ragged Mountain Rye and Red Shift are especially excellent. The lighter beers are fine but there is nothing distinctive about them. The flights are usually four ounce pours. Recently I also inquired about beer they sell for consumption off-premise. They have kegs to sell but they don't bottle their beer so they are better for large gatherings. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful on any front. Random Row is probably my favorite brewery setting in Charlottesville. read more

My friend and I shared two flights to try all of the ones they had (8 at the time). I'm more privy to the darker beers, and they hit the spot for me - the Indian red ale was my favorite followed by the two IPA's and then the lager. My friend thought the hefeweizen was good too. We came here right near closing time on July 4th ( a faux pas, I know) and Kristoff was super kind about it! We came in and asked if they had already called last call, he said yes, but that he'd serve us a beer If we wanted. Since we weren't alone in the brewery, we decided to take him up on that offer. Came to Random Row for the first time for a St. Patrick's day party. Loved how family friendly the whole restaurant is with open space and a decent selection of toys. Also right by the train tracks which was perfect for my train loving 3 year old - he loved seeing each car whoosh by. The live Irish music and dancing made for a great party for the community! Great value for the beer flights. It's too bad that they don't serve food, but the food trucks are a great idea and it's nice to be able to bring outside food in, especially if you have kids. read more

Welcome to Romper Row. I've never seen so many damned kids in a place: Kids at the bar, kids hogging full tables, kids climbing on the stacks of chairs. I have kids and I left them at home; looks like I'm stuck paying full price because I can't think of another reason to bring this many children to a bar. I don't mind well behaved children, but there must be 25 or 30 of them running around screaming. Jesus, where'd they get that pig head? The beer is excellent. When you're in Charlottesville for work, you obviously look up breweries near your hotel, right? I swear I don't have problem. Anyway, I noticed that Random Row was only about .5 miles from where I was staying so I decided to check it out - and I'm glad I did. Random Row is not huge, but certainly not tiny. I easily found a seat at the bar and ordered a flight with mostly IPAs (#hophead). The beers here are AWESOME. The atmosphere is great. The folks behind the bar are really nice and helpful. Prices are very reasonable and if you get hungry you can stop and get a bagel across the street. I ended up leaving with 3 growlers because there was a half off growler deal (yeah, you heard that right). I definitely recommend stopping in and checking this place out. read more

A very solid brewery to visit in Charlottesville. There are a lot of different beers to try. My favorite was the Mosiac Pale Ale. The samplers were a very good deal too. A sampler of 5 costs around $11. The brewery itself was surprisngly large with a lot of seating areas, so probably a good place to take a large group. We went past 8pm so we couldnt get food because the food area was closed, which was a bummer, so make sure to double check the hours. Overall, a very pleasant and fun experience read more

I went to Random Row Brewing on 8/6/17. I was pleasantly surprised. I had visited several other craft breweries in Charlottesville, VA area. Random Row Brewing was one of my favorites. The atmosphere is casual but yet trendy. I noticed the brewery has an event (e.g. trivia, yoga) almost every night. I arrived after the weekly yoga class at Random Row was finishing up. Yoga in craft breweries is somewhat common in the northern VA area. One of the yoga participants told me Random Row Brewing was the only brewery in the area who hosts a yoga class. In other words, I think Random Row Brewing has a good handle on their marketing. The beer was good. They have a variety of IPAs, a sour and a German style beer. I felt a lot of their beer tasted similar except for a few which were outstanding when it came to finding their flavors (e.g. smoky and banana). In a nutshell for a brewery that is less than 5 years old, they seem to be on the right track. I wouldn't hesitate to comeback. read more

Random Row does not open for a couple more weeks but I was able to sample their Mosaic IPA and their 100 Degree Hefe at the Virginia Craft Beer Festival. Their Mosaic IPA rivals Pliny the Elder as one of the best beers I've ever had. The Hefe is light and easy drinking; A definite crowd pleaser. Random Row is a true local business with the majority of the staff tied into the UVa Health System. I can't wait to visit their new location in September. read more

It's the best selection of *original* brews in town. I would even rank it above some of the Afton breweries like Devil's Backbone and Blue Mountain from that standpoint. Definitely an awesome addition to Cville, a keeper. Also, you should really get their flight if it's a first time visiting. The beer was okay but staff can be very impolite. I ordered a beer, but they charged me for a more expensive one. When I asked about it, the bartender told me that "he would remember" if he put in a certain beer in a rude tone, then 30 seconds later when I insisted on what I ordered, he said "oh, actually you're right, we don't even have a button for that beer so I put it in as the other one". The other beer was more expensive. And he didn't apologize. There are a lot nicer breweries with a lot better beer all around. Try Star Hill or Kardinal Hall. read more

We frequent a lot of microbreweries in and around Charlottesville and unfortunately after trying Random Row a handful of times since it opened we have to say they have sub par beers. They have about 10 beers on tap at a time but none really stood out. There wasn't a good dark beer in the winter and no stable summer light beer but they do carry a few hoppy ones to select from. The venue is pretty nice and provides free parking and they have food trucks sometimes which is nice when you've got the munchies. read more

Random Row Brewing - Mona Lisa cheese pizza and Method IPA - Breweries Near Me - Charlottesville, Virginia

There are so many reasons to love this brewery. I'll just cover them in list-form as follows. 1. Ambiance. Yeah, they do have that same warehouse-y feel as a lot of other breweries, but Random Row feels cleaner, more open, and generally lighter. There's so much more room to move; you don't feel like you're ducking under pipes and steel beams like in some craft breweries. 2. It's off the beaten path (at least more so than other breweries in Charlottesville). The noise was at a pleasant level, and it felt very local. You won't have to worry about turning around and bumping into someone with your beer. 3. The flights. You can get, like, 6 beers for $10. They're always changing the beers they have, too, so you'll be able to try almost all of them and come back in the future for more. Plus, they put them in this round wooden log thing, which adds to the stellar aesthetic of the place. 4. Indoor AND outdoor seating. There's not much in the way of views outside, but it's still a great way to either bask in C-ville's great weather or escape it completely. 4. THE BEER. Of course, a brewery can have ambiance, aesthetic, and seating galore, but if it doesn't have good beer, it's just not going to cut it. Random Row is unique in that it does tank-to-tap brewing, meaning, obviously, that the beer flows straight from their fermentation tanks to your glass. I've been to so many breweries--like, a LOT of breweries--and I've literally never seen that! To top it off (pun not intended), 95% of the beer I had there was delicious. The West Coast IPA was one of the best I've ever had; my group and I got a growler-full and finished it that night. Next time you're doing a brewery crawl in Charlottesville, please do yourself a favor and make this one of your stops. read more

The service was not great; no one tells you that you need to order from the bar; which isn't terrible except there are all of these tables to sit at lol. I visited Rand Row Brewing on a pretty quiet Tuesday night. There were only a few people at the bar but a group of musicians playing Irish music at a table. The music was actually pretty good! The people were nice and the beer was good. They had 2 reduced gluten (less than 10 ppm) beer on tap. Overall a nice brewery. read more
