We knew as soon as we walked in we made the right choice for dinner. The smell from the kitchen was absolutely delicious--we couldn't wait to order. We both chose the house smash burger with a side of fries to share, and it was easily one of the best burgers I've ever had. We sat at the bar, and our bartender/server was fabulous--she answered all of our questions, provided excellent service, and even recommended some great local things to do. Friendly, helpful staff. We ended up here at lunchtime and that was perfect timing. My wife and I split a Junk 2 patty smash burger and an order of onion rings. I will be back for a burger. 4/5 December 2024. We stopped here for lunch while visiting Charlottesville. Definitely had the vibe of a local bar-restaurant and was quite nice and homey. Felt a bit more like a restaurant that makes beer than a full on brewery that serves food but that may be a distinction without a difference. Either way the beer was good and very drinkable especially paired with the food which was very good as well. We sat at the bar and were well taken care of. I would definitely recommend stopping here for a meal and a few beers. read more

Love this place. The burgers are DELICIOUS. They sell a coffee icecream cookie sandwich that is so so good. I'm not a beer person but my husband thinks their beers are great. Sometimes on our evening walk with the dog, he will bring home a can of something. The employees are friendly and the vibe is cool. You can bring your dog and sit outside. read more

Burger if you want to call it that (lil half party on one burger) and really not great period if you could taste the patty beyond the toppings that were not correct on any burger we ordered. The beer was solid. Service was not friendly or unfriendly. I came for the burgers which everyone raves about. They were quite good -- tasted like it just came off the grill. If you're really hungry, get the 6oz, but otherwise go with the 3oz. 6oz was BIG. The fries were plentiful and tasty. Is it the best burger I've ever had? No, but certainly tasty. Heard these burgers were some of the best in Charlottesville and I heard right! Ordered a regular (double patty) smash burger and it was top tier. The buns were toasted perfectly, weren't sopping in grease and held all the ingredients together. The ratio between the meat, cheese, onions, etc was artfully precise and it made for a mouth watering experience that left me wanting another burger. Their fries are shoe string style, nicely salted. Nothing special but done well and a superb compliment to the burger. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to your table, service was welcoming and cordial! Cool vibes inside the brewery as well. Some more private seating is available away from the bar or you could sit at or near the bar. Wow what a hidden gem located right at the entrance of the rivanna trail. My family and I enjoyed some delicious smash burgers along with with tasty beer brewed right on site. The beer is brewed by a former Maine Beer company brewer and founder of Reason beer in cville. We had a tasty lager and my husband loves all reason beer, so we were not shocked at how delicious it was. Service was very friendly and welcoming. We ate our burgers outside on picnic tables that were clean. Next time we plan on bringing the kids on the trail after eating burgers. So excited I found this place! read more

Was in the Charlottesville VA area beer tripping. Hogwalker was one of about 20 breweries we hit. It's a sleeper. Seemed like more of a locals joint. Very small inside. The place was redolent with the smoky goodness pouring out of the kitchen. The to-go order line was out of the door. I didn't eat here, but I wanted to. Just no room left in the tank. The food game was obviously highly respected. I sat at the small 5-7 seat bar and did a 4 taster flight. Thry nailed both ingredients and technique. Clean, sessiony, goodness. They're helles killed with Hallertau spiciness. Their hef captured the phenolic magic of its inspirations. My fave was the Sasquatch blond ale which kept with the poundy session beer theme but mixed things up with the brand new Canadian Sasquatch hop which added lots of lemon lime notes, resulting in a light ale perfect for slicing though the summer heat. The bartender, though busy, hung with us discussing the beer in between serving other customers. It was busy and he made it look easy. I had a great time and want to return. Maybe next time I can get some of that meat on a plate. Super cool place. No pretension. Great service. Great brewing. Real people busting ass to deliver a great experience. The outside patio looks nice: it's easy to overlook a lot if you're lucky enough to score a table next to Riverview Park. Looks like they need some umbrellas or a canopy. So glad there is a brewery on the Pantops side of town. I'm excited to see how this place grows and expands with time but they are off to a great start - awesome beers of all varieties (and new releases regularly) and delicious food to go with your brews. They currently have about one beer of several different varieties and everything I've tried has been really solid - I have particularly enjoyed their Van Down by the River APA and Umlaut West Coast IPA. Definitely check out their smash burgers as well! This place boasts chill vibes and both indoor and outdoor space (complete with heated tent and fire pits). I was confident it was going to get fixed. Unfortunately not, I told their busser who was out there collecting empty beer glasses and he responded it's not his responsibility (to be fair, he was probably in middle school). Hogwaller Brewing as recommended to us as having the best burgers. We went last night to check it out and I would have to highly disagree to the recommendation of them having the best burgers. They claim their burgers are grass fed but they had the appearance and taste of frozen patties not to mention 3 burgers, 1 hot dog, 2 fries and 4 drinks was over $80!!! In all honesty they seem like an overpriced version of five guys! The seating is limited and for a brewing company there were way too many kids running around swinging on the tent poles, throwing rocks and turning the gigantic fans on to scream into them. (I know this is more of a parenting problem) but it was not a pleasant experience. read more
