First. They no longer are a distillery. They serve other alcohol, but not their own. A snafu with their liquor license. Still, they serve cocktails and food from a limited menu (after 5pm). This is just an awesome place, no ifs- ands- or buts- about it. They are fairly new and serve only liquor flights and custom cocktails or mocktails. The flights are an incredible deal at three 0.5 ounce pours for only $10. This allows you to get a good taste of their stuff. We especially loved the Champion gin! The cocktails are truly out-of-this-world. The Pain Suppressor (Spring 2022) was a frozen delight, and I think one of the best I've had. The Unicorn Blood was not only delicious but also beautiful. It's soft purple color and glimmery sheen made it almost too pretty to drink! I can't wait to return for cocktails and test out new menus as they move into new seasonal menus! read more

I love local distilleries and we always try to find time to explore them for new "finds". Vitae Spirits has a wide Gin selection, which is right up my alley. I wasn't there to try their craft cocktails, but to (perhaps) grab a local bottle of gin for the trip/my collection - so to speak. In general the samples we tried were good - but not great or memorable. Might have grabbed a bottle just for souvenir sake - but the prices were simply far to high for the quality of the product - or gin in general. Lets face it if your paying north of $35 a bottle, there's some really excellent choices out there. At 40-50$ a bottle, you need to be in a class by yourself. They didn't make the cut (for me). But feel free to decide for yourself. read more

Had a great time here last night. Very good vibes. It's worth visiting. The macaron ice cream sandwich was worth trying. So tasty! You will not regret getting it. The macarons are beautifully chewy and soft. The owner/manager maybe was super nice and talked with us for a while. I had a cocktail with conifer and I compared it to an argument on Christmas morning. I mean that as a compliment. It's sharp and somehow funny. We will be back next time we're in Charlottesville. read more

Just off the main strip of the Water Street Mall is the perfect spot for a rum/gin cocktail before dinner. Super friendly staff, well crafted cocktails and flights, and spacious tasting room. We had the Gold Fever and Summer Lovin'. The Gold Fever tastes like an alcoholic Honey Nut Cheerio. From a person that usually prefers whisky drinks, or smoky straight whiskey, this actually fit the bill for my palette. The Summer Lovin' is gin based, but not strong on the Juniper flavoring, nor fruitiness, as the color would indicate. Not a full bar, no food, just straight cocktails and a tour if you are so inclined. read more

We stopped in on a hot July day. Staff was super friendly and helpful. We tried a flight to start with and asked for some suggestions. The alcohol itself was mediocre. We decided to each get a mixed drink. The bikini bottom was amazing! The ice cream macaroon was pretty good and hit the spot. I would definitely recommend to stop by here to try some of their mixed drink concoctions. read more

Went there today and found the bartender unwelcoming - he told us to go outside and a waiter would serve us. The waiter was unfamiliar with the spirits and couldn't describe them. The drinks were odd. It was a horrible experience. Do not recommend. read more

Visited twice while staying a week in Charlottesville and both times the drinks were really good. Nice place to hang out or stopping by for pre/post dinner, as they don't have a food menu. Mocktails were delicious as well. read more

Came here for a pre dinner drink while we waited for our table. So glad we did!!! The drinks are hands down AMAZING and refreshing. It's dog friendly even a plus. The summer delight was a watermelon/cucumber combo which was just heaven. Something I'd like to drink pool side. The pain suppressor was well...I'm on the Hawaiian airline website now looking for flights bc that's where this drink took me too. It's a two drink max due to Virginia laws but that's okay I will now be making this my regular drink spot in the downtown mall area. The place is very modern, clean, staff is friendly. A fine place to try spirits or cocktails! Vitae Spirits is brightly lit with a mixture of couches, brightly colored chairs, and bar stools available for seating. I tried a flight containing their spiced rum, modern gin, and coffee liqueur. The rum was one of the smoother rums that I have tried. I liked the gin better than some of the London dry gins that I have tried and the coffee liqueur was a nice finishing complement to the other two. Overall, I had a nice time at Vitae Spirits and would recommend them to anyone. read more

My boyfriend and I got a cocktail here last night and it was fabulous! We are going back again tonight. Only downside is that the "vibe" is a little awkward (it was silent without music) but the cocktails made up for it. Would recommend! read more

We dropped into the new Vitae Spirits location on Charlottesville's downtown mall. It was Sunday and they were about to have some live music. I wanted to try one of their unique cocktails and chose one that was rum based, It was wonderful and then I realized they had sushi as well. Possibly the best I have ever tried-I am no expert but what they had was wonderful at least to me and my friends and as it turns out -the next table loved it as well as we compared notes. A friendly beautiful place with a wonderful row of -I guess you could call it alcoves in which to sit. Comfortable and beautiful. The music they had -and they said they were scheduling music for every Sunday-was a mix of jazz with Spanish influences and not sure what to call it as it was wonderful, Friends were walking by heard the music and stopped in so we all had a really nice evening. Somebody put some good thought into this one. read more

Fairly new location on the Water St. side of the Downtown Mall. The space beside Vu Noodles (formerly The Flat) has an industrial feel that incorporates a bar area, lounge area, and a few high tops. TJ greeted us, gave us a run down of the products, and made a couple of recommendations. He was spot on with his cocktail recommendation, which typically makes an appearance on the brunch menu. This location is dog friendly as well, for those of us that like to spend time with our pups after work. They partner with Iron Paffles to offer a brunch special on Sundays. Several restaurants on the Mall will deliver to the location. Definitely stop in if you are in the area. They support other local businesses by selling their products in the tasting room. They sell their own kits which make nice gifts and can ship to select states. read more

I kept hearing the word "Vitae" come up so often in conversations with friends lately that I just couldn't resist, and checked out their Water Street location today with a friend. What a great little find! Comfortable, laid back, sunny location just off the DTM. Local award-winning barkeep Wil Smith manned the helm expertly and we had a marvelous time, leaving a bottle and epic tank top richer than intended at the start. Definitely worth checking out this Charlottesville's own distillery's offerings. read more

We went into Vitae Spirits to do drinking a love drink and The bartender that we met on Saturday. he was a wonderful bartender. You knew what he was doing.. It's so good.
