My combination of a tamal, burrito and cholupa.
    Rob G.

We were hungry on an early Sunday evening and happened to be driving by Rancho Viejo- I had wanted to try out this Mexican restaurant- and not because they have a sign that says "Home of the $3.50 Margarita "! We were seated in your standard Mexican themed booth (I swear that all these Mexican restaurants buy their furniture from the same place). The chips and salsa were fantastic. My wife got the margarita- I had a Dos Equis with lime. The $3.50 marg wasn't bad- I tried a sip. We both ordered combination dishes. I had a corn and chicken tamal, beef burrito and bean and cheese cholupa with guacamole. For $12.99- nice price and very good food. My wife enjoyed her combination as well. The service was attentive and friendly. Food was great and the bill was pleasantly low. We will be back.

Pros: We tried the chipotle enchiladas and chorizo tacos. The chorizos were very flavorful and absolutely loved it! The enchiladas were delicious and super filling. Their chips and salsa was fresh and delicious. Overall, the food was packed with flavors and tasted fresh. Also, they have some taco Tuesday offers, which is pretty nice. Cons: The place was filled with fruit flies and that was unappetizing while eating. The house margaritas for 3.5 dollars had absolutely no potent in them. I wish they served rice and beans with enchiladas, like most Mexican restaurants. I still feel Rochester has to up it's Mexican food game.

First time ever having Mexican in Rochester and boyy it was good! Hence the cleared out plates haha ; naw we were just so hungry we started eating and forgot to take pictures. Also only had a tiny bit of leftovers that we packed away. This restaurant has very detailed colorful paintings/carvings in the booth chairs/tables. The ambiance is very welcoming and the staff were great. Greeted us with a smile and were so nice to my son. Kept complimenting how cute he is and they just seemed like they enjoyed doing their job as waiters/waitresses. The staff we had took our order and made sure that it was made the way we asked. I ordered a grilled salmon taco with a side of rice and beans; my son got a beef taco with a side of fries. Our food was ready within 25mins and we had the complimentary chips and salsa while we waited. When our food came we just dived right in; my son kept complimenting how good his taco was and wants to come back again. My taco was very tasty too and I can't wait to come back.

Efficient service, delicious food. What more could you ask for? This was our first time stopping at Ranchi Viejo and let me tell you, we were not disappointed. The chicken in my burrito was fresh and delicious. This may be one of my new favorite Mexican restaurants in the area and cannot wait to go back.

Hubbo has been OBSESSED with trying this place since it opened about a month and a half ago. They've been really busy so we finally made it at a time when we didn't have to wait. I will say, in general, the food was fine. We all have certain things that we tend to order at new Mexican restaurants to make general comparisons. Mine are the Carnitas. The flavor on these was pretty good but they were really wet. The combination sauce on the side was really good and they should consider giving a little lettuce tomato sidekick. Hubbo liked his rellano but wondered if it was fried from frozen. Nothing really blew our minds one way or the other. The churros were over cooked. Service was good.

So I have been waiting, almost stalking this restaurant while waiting for it to open. I love Mexican food and the location is so close to home for me. They have only been open for 5 days and that is evident, they still have many kinks to work out or perfect before they get a 5 star rating from me. The menu is huge! Many many options, I was overwhelmed! But the menu options are authentic to Mexico which is always a plus. My boyfriend and I Started with a chicken quesadilla to share - small side portion. Different than your typical deep fried quesadilla I'm used to - this is pulled chicken with different types of queso too - a little on the watery side though. I ordered the pollo fundido something I have never ordered and I was pleasantly pleased - similar to the quesadilla but fried shells. My boyfriend got the primo burrito - it was a Mexican style burrito meaning melted to the plate unlike the American burritos you can eat with your two hands. the meat quality was comparable to authentic Mexican style and flavor as well. The service was good as we were in and out in y de an hour. However you could tell the server was new as he wasn't very familiar with the menu and it's thousands of offerings. He Was not used to refilling drinks condiments, place settings etc... without asking for them and never came to check on us. The last thing this place is missing is their liquor license. They boast many delicious drinks on their menu but can not serve them yet and are unsure of a date when they can.

It's really nice to see new businesses open during a pandemic...and really nice to get a Mexican restaurant in the town i live in.. gates! I ordered takeout and everything I ordered was really good. I will admit I haven't had much mexican food to compare it too...but from what I've had...it tasted about the same...maybe a little less saltier than the other places I've tried? That can be a good thing or a bad thing. I ordered the "el combo" and you get a burrito, a taco, a chile rellano, a chalupa, and rice n beans...LOVED IT... everything was fresh and tasted like what I would imagine it would taste like if I was invited over to a friend's house for dinner. I have no friends that know how to cook mexican food, but no joke, that's the thought that came to my mind when I was grubbing lol. Take it for what it's worth.

Great new Mexican restaurant in Gates. Rancho Viejo is a repurposed Arby's across from Lyell Wegmans that has a large menu, warm chips and salsa (complimentary), and a friendly wait staff. I had the fajitas that were sizzling hot (almost a bit too much; some burned onto the skillet). The rest of my party had the enchiladas and cleaned their plates! Tasty food and friendly and attentive service will keep patrons coming back for a long time!

Fantastic food. Amazing service. I have been here twice already. The only issue is it is a little bit cramped if you have a party over 4 or happen to be bigger people.

First time there, I walked in for takeout. 10-12 minute wait for the food during a busy lunch time. Food was delicious.

It's been months since I craved Mexican food from my spot and of course the food is still delicious. I tried the nachos fajitas, let me say the steak, beans and cheese, well everything was delicious. The flavors are spot on with being ethnic and season. Always fresh and hot !

There was street parking available in front of the restaurant and on either side of the street. When we walked in the first thing I noticed was the decor. Everything was beautifully decorated and so welcoming. The bar was to the right and the host stand a little further up. I didn't get a picture when we walked in but there was the cutest orange stand and a sign with an arrow pointing to the host stand. They had live music that night and it was pretty busy. Once we were seated we did wait for some time before someone came to greet us but the person that sat us did bring us water. When someone came over they were very apologetic for the wait and let us know there may be a little delay with the food but was very proactive with making drink recommendations and took our food order before leaving the table. Our drinks were delicious! I got the coconut lime margarita and it was so flavorful. My friend got the espresso martini and she said it was so good. We enjoyed the music while we waited and all of the waitresses would check on us anytime they walked by. We ordered a second round of drinks and I got the pistachio martini and my friend got the crème brûlée martini and both were great. I really like this restaurant because they offer small plates so my friend and I picked a few we both wanted to try. We got the stuffed gnocchi flight, arancini classico, and ahi tuna martini. All 3 were 10/10 on the taste scale. My favorite of the gnocchi flight is the one with pesto. The arancini was so tasty and the sauce that came with them was a perfect pairing. The cilantro crema on the ahi tuna martini was the star of the dish. Overall, this was an incredible dining experience and I'd love to come again to try some items from their dessert menu and on a night with no live music.

They also have a surprisingly large food menu, but we just had cocktails and dessert. Drinks were just OK, but the desserts were great! Definitely recommend the chocolate raspberry cake. My only critique is that the table arrangement is setup more like a restaurant than a lounge and the decor is a bit random. If they made it feel a bit more loungey, I think it would improve the overall vibe.

Of course, Monday nights are always difficult with so many restaurants closed but my wife used Yelp to see what was open nearby. Cristo's popped up. We weren't familiar with the restaurant (my sister in law indicated that a pizza restaurant had been in this location several years prior with good pizza but a bad attitude) but what the heck, we thought we would give it a try. Well, I can't say enough nice things about Cristo's. We thought we were going for pizza, what we ended up with was some of the best homemade pasta (almost all is homemade), gnocchi, and a wonderful chicken parm that was to die for. Loved the marinara sauce - clearly everything was homemade (including the bread). Pleasant environment. Not loud, well laid out. Good selection of wines (too bad that we learned afterwards that there was no corkage fee on Mondays). Just a wonderful little restaurant with great service, superior food, and well-priced. Can't emphasize the latter enough with today's inflation. And the choices on the menu if you don't like pasta are also intriguing. Nightly steak choices (the filet mignon on a Monday night sounded wonderful but I just had to try the pasta). Wish we had something on the east side like this!

For my main course I ordered the rigatoni bolognese which was fantastic. The sauce was a lighter version of a traditional bolognese, but still packed with flavor. The only thing that kept me from giving this establishment 5 stars was the martini I ordered. It was served in a cosmo glass but was filled about 1/3. Because the glass is cone shaped, the volume was certainly less than 1/4. The bar tender needs to up their game and learn how to serve a martini. Charging $16.50,for what amounted to a short shot, is almost criminal. I would definitely go back. But next time, I'm ordering a bottle of wine in lieu of a cocktail.

Our table got free shots because one member of the party was celebrating her birthday at Easy Sailor (she also received leis around her neck). Cons: Expensive. Small portions. Food is OK, but not worth the cost. Drinks are VERY expensive. The vegan appetizers are coconut sticky rice, sesame garlic vegetables, and kung pao cucumbers. There is one vegan entrée: Spamfu fried rice. The coconut sticky rice was decent, but not filling. And it's hard to eat it without making a big mess, because they foolishly serve it to you in a small, overstuffed dish with no plate under it. So when you dig into the ball of rice with your fork, you end up dislodging bits of it all over the table. They really need to figure out a better way to serve it. The sesame garlic vegetables were quite good (better than the rice), but also not filling. My wife had the Spamfu, which was a surprisingly small portion given that it's billed as an entrée. The vegan bits of "Spam" were cubes of marinated tofu, and there wasn't much of it. Given that tofu and rice are both cheap, the cost of that dish was pretty outrageous. And speaking of outrageous costs, the fancy drinks were priced astronomically high. The menu is written in a small font and is hard to read, especially given the dim lighting in the restaurant. I had to use my iPhone to take pictures of it, so I could magnify the photos on my screen. The water carafes are impractical. They have very long, thin necks, which means you can't put ice in them -- and they tend to block your view of other people sitting at the table. They don't hold much water, so you have to keep asking the server to refill them. And the water glasses are too small. The restaurant really needs to get bigger (but squatter) carafes that hold ice, and they need better water glasses. If you're not especially hungry and money is no object, then maybe Easy Sailor is right for you. Otherwise, I'd skip it.

Boozy Shipless- 4/5 Well presented. Tropical flavors through and through which I loved. I was not a fan of the garnish on top at first but it grew on me eventually. Now the food, We started with Sesame Garlic Brussels sprouts. 4/5 for that dish. Beautiful flavor. Well roasted sprouts. Coconut Sticky Rice- 5/5 Perfect rice. Well made. Well presented. The salty and the sweet flavors have wonderful chemistry. The rice was the right amount of fluffy and soft. Mandarin Tea Chicken- 4/5 Very yummy. Chicken was wonderful. I wish it came with rice and had more lean white meat as it seemed that it had more fatty dark meat. Jaffna Shrimp Curry- 4/5 Wonderful dish. The shrimp was well made. Perfectly cooked. The lentils could be more softer. The sauce was beautiful and combined all aspects of this dish perfectly. I'm not sure what leaves they used for garnish. I hoped to see curry leaves in there given the South Asian roots of this dish but alas they weren't there. Nonetheless it was a wonderful meal.
