My first time here and I was pleasantly surprised. Our server, Giovanni, was so kind and incredibly attentive. We ordered the guacamole, steak quesadilla, and the "punch bowl" coconut margarita. The guac: made right in front of you and specified to your taste...It was so fresh and so delicious. The quesadilla was simply ok: the steak was good but I couldn't quite taste the cheese. Residents of Westchester we have a star here. Wow, what a great little find is Rancho Grande. We've eaten here several times and the food is absolutely superb and everything is tasty and satisfying and the prices are even reasonable. My fiance and I have had the chimichangas, flautas, fajitas and shell steak and they've all been top notch. The shells have been crunchy and crisp, the meat grilled and seasoned just right and even the ubiquitous side of rice and refried beans were good. The drinks were also large and quite strong, my fiance had a margarita and was nicely buzzed from that but it was a tad bit pricey at $11 which is probably the only near negative thing to say about this place. I recently ate at Rancho Grande with a group of friends and must say that the quality of the food has diminished greatly. Not only has the food quality suffered, the price point is far too high for what you're receiving. Yelp should register this restaurant as $$$. First, soda was flat and there were no other non-alcoholic options available. Second, I ordered the land and sea (mar y tierra) meal and received nothing but fillers such as peppers and onions. At over $30 dollars a plate, I would have fared better at Jose Tejas Grill or Garibaldi, similar themed restaurants, where a similar meal cost $20 with much more meat and seafood. Lastly, the service at the restaurant was meh with the exception of the water server who was very attentive. Seemed that the food server was quite overwhelmed and was constantly rushing to get things done. At the end of the meal it took approximately 20 minutes for the server to bring our bill with another 15 minutes to make payment. The only positive about Rancho Grande is that the restaurant offers a great ambiance and live music. Also their guacamole is one of the best I have ever tried. I hope that Rancho Grande would stop cutting corners and return to the level of service from when the restaurant first opened. read more

I took my mother and brother to this restaurant once, the first thing that caught my eye was the spacious inside and the decor, it has a Mexican rancho feeling (never been to Mexico but thats how they look in the novelas), then the live singer added a nice touch to the whole feel of the place, he goes around peoples tables and also takes requests. The service was very good and the waitress gave us the kind of attention you would expect when going out to have a nice meal. This is my first negative review. I'm on the fence because I'm rating a Mexican restaurant on Cinco de mayo, so keep that in mind. The place was packed. Free beer from the various Mexican beer promotions, trying to sway loyalty with free sombrero's, tee's and beer. The promotional models were lack of luster in personality, but free beer made that forgivable. The service, although our waitress did her best on such an insane night, was kind of crappy on the other fronts, from the bar, kitchen, to busser. The kitchen was slow, the bar unprepared, with its warm beer, no salt at the bar, the water we requested numerous times, that never came. The blue moon margarita was good, can't mess up tequila, and again the beer was hot, not even lukewarm, but hot. The food took forever and was overpriced in my opinion for its lesser than mediocre quality. I did have a bit of my friends guacamole and it was pretty good. The shrimp cocktail tasted like they drowned shrimp to death in ketchup...yuck...sent it back. The shrimp ceviche was good as its replacement. The shrimp fajita...blaaaahhhh. The salsa music came on later and made for a good dancing atmosphere. The staff, for the most part, separate of our personal server, seemed to not care or be helpful. My girlfriend got there earlier and witnessed a scary accident where the server delivering a flambe dessert with alcohol spilled onto a nearby patron and set him on fire. If that wasn't awful enough, another customer, while we were there, was injured by a broken beer bottle. I don't make this stuff up. Bothers me to have to write this but I was always curious about this place and it has the potential to be a good gathering spot. I hate wasting my money. I found this restaurant to be on the low side of average for a Mexican restaurant and I've been to many. The food was very typical and bland. I found myself wanting to add salsa and salt to most everything to give it some taste. I might've raised this to three stars if the prices were half what they were, but $17 for bland burritos that were nothing special? The mango margarita was fine, but again, nothing special. I've been to this restaurant 3 times. I'm actually here as I write this review. It's a great atmosphere with live music on the weekends. I've never had a negative experience. The food is great (I primarily order the fajitas) , table-side guac is delicious and the drinks are plentiful & strong (frozen margaritas are my go-to). The ONLY good thing about this place is their guacamole. Made fresh right in front of you? It's a rarity and we ended up getting two orders of guacamole because of how well it was made. Also, the interior and the decor were nice. Other than that, the food was abysmal. I ordered tacos (a plate of three, came out to about $17) and they came out soggy, falling apart the minute I picked them up! My boyfriend ordered a dish which had a chimichanga, quesadilla, and taco on it (sort of a sampler, if you will) and the quesadilla was a huge wedge of mozzarella cheese between a tortilla. It wasn't even melted! The bill was huge, mostly bc we kept ordering refills of the small sodas we originally ordered, and got charged for every single refill. I guess the service was decent, and my friend REALLY enjoyed her fajita. Maybe I would go back if my friends wanted to (which I doubt they ever will!) My mother booked a large party for my sisters graduation on a Sunday. I've only heard good things about this place so I was excited. Not only was the food very mediocre the service was terrible. We tried getting our waiters attention for water and he litteraly shook his head and told us no. When the bill came they tried to add things we ordered that they didn't bring out because they told us they didn't have it. They were unfriendly and rude to a party of at least 20 people. Nice eatery to come to for fresh mexican food. Had the steak fajitas here and it was cooked perfectly. Just how I liked it. I wish they gave more sour cream and guacamole but they'll bring you a side of it if you asked. The prices are ok for what you get. I wish there was more of a selection and not of the typical stuff. OMG! Rancho Grande is the perfect place to dine and party on! I went to this wonderful place this past weekend. It was my birthday! I turned big 40! We were a party of six; me, my parents, my sister, cousin and my aunt. This place is an attractive Mexican fiesta on its own, perched high on a steep location. It's really close by my house. It only took about 20 minutes to ride by car. I was glad my sister made reservations for 8:30 pm. The restaurant was packed. As soon as we came in, the hostess greeted us with a warm welcome, as so did the rest of the staff. We were treated like royalty. I felt very special! There was a young man singing live! He sang Spanish classic songs and ballads. He indeed was a great vocalist and he got the crowd eager to hear more. It was a very romantic mood for the next two hours. The decor has Mexican motifs as well as the artisanal tiles that adorned the appetizer plates. There is a nice bar area, as well as a dining area that overlooks the city lights, and the busy highway down below. Our waiter was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable of the house menu. He was comfortable enough to give us recommendations for what to order. We started with a customized appetizer plater; consisting of guacamole, pico de gallo and tortilla chips, with a side of smokey, grilled beef, chicken meats and shrimp. The flavors were really spot on! Amazing! The drinks were delicious. I saw countless trays of big Margaritas being brought to nearby tables. The Piña colada was the best with a showstopping presentation: it was served in a fresh, beautifully garnished pineapple that also had a lime wedge that was lit! I blew the flame out, and I squeezed the lime in my drink! It was soo good, that I ate the fresh pineapple slices too! The guacamole was prepared tableside, and it was nicely spiced up, and served in a traditional rock molcajete. It was the best guacamole I've ever eaten. We really enjoyed our big appetizer platter so much, that we started getting full! At the server's suggestion, we got a customized dinner tray for sharing; very similar to the appetizer entree. This gigantic meat tray came to our table, as the server finished the meat glaze, of course, table side! Sorry guys that I didn't film it, but it was quite a spectacle! The meat glaze is a reduction doused with alcohol! The fire display is incredible although it last for a minute or two. Tostones (fried green plantains), a green salad, rice and refried pinto beans were also served. The meats were nicely charred and smoked to perfection! Everything in this restaurant is very tasty. As the night progressed, the ambiance got hotter. The DJ did an excellent job with the music. People got up from their tables to dance! There were about five other birthday celebrations that evening. A cake was brought to our table, along with a big Mexican sombrero that someone planted on my head! It was an unforgettable experience! I really hope this won't be the last time I will come to visit. Our party of three arrived and we were seated it was a slow night for them. Service was slow. We ordered steak nachos for appetizers and margaritas ( was good but too much sour mix). For dinner we had carne Asada. Presidents steak and flautes steak was chewy none of us finished the food. We asked for tap water, waitress was like we serve only bottle water here. Anyways the worst part we ask for check and we spilt the bill, when she returns there is bill with gratuity on it and she says I didn't charge the gratuity but this is the amount we owe her. !!!!! I called and they say they had it. When I got there to pick it up they manager whose name is Jose took a very long time to bring it to me. Don't come here with Grande expectations. This place used to be pretty good -- not anymore. The greater's first sentence to us was pointing out that there would be a fee to pay via credit card of 3.99%. Little did we know their food quality went down 100%. Our waiter, before saying "Hi", also let us know about this fee. We agreed because we recall this place was good at some point in the past. Not long after being seated, we came to realize that out waiter had an attitude more sour than their sour cream, and the mannerisms of a prison doctor. On to the food. The shredded chicken wasn't really shredded, nor was it any good. We tried to eat it, but after a few bites out appetites "ran south of the border" if you know what I mean. After a quick trip to the restroom, I wondered if that was where they rounded up their chickens for our burritos, because it was filthier than a chicken coupe, with a toilette paper fiesta on display all over the place. Is that where the name "Rancho" comes into play? Normally we like getting dessert, but decided it better to desert the premises, and didn't want to have to interact with our waiter anymore. I'm not quite sure why some people left negative reviews. I guess everyone's experience differs. Nonetheless, I had a phenomenal time. 1. Upon entering the hostess was super friendly and kind. We were immediately seated. 2. The overall appearance of the establishment was welcoming. We weren't sure where to eat but we saw the bright lights and packed parking lot which is always a good sign. 3 The decor was fun, very cinco de Mayo like and it put myself and my partner in a good mood/vibe. 4. There was music playing, people having fun 5. I cannot emphasize how nice our waiter was. He was so attentive, knowledgeable and he literally made me feel like I was right at home, like he was an uncle or something. 6. The drinks and food: so if anything, make sure you try their drinks, especially their piña loco ( it's a drink that comes in a real pineapple with a flame coming out of it) all of their drinks are quite festive and the presentation is awesome! The food is so authentic and fresh! Their house guacamole and salsa is so fresh and tasty. It's hard to stop eating them but make sure you save room for their appetizers and entree! The fried calamari is seasoned with a vast array of spices but not overwhelming. I had their sopa de camarones and I had to take it home. There was sooooo much and it was soooooo good! Nice place, spacious, high ceilings... seemed authentic but also causal and reasonable prices. I'm on a health kick, so I can't say much about the mexican food. I ordered one of the seafood dish (Don Francisco?) that had calamari, squid, mussels, clams, red snapper, shrimp, scallops, in a white wine sauce served with some spanish rice. It was soooo good. The sauce was amazing- light, flavorful, not oily at all - I wanted to bring it home with me. Lot's of fish and just enough rice that I was full but not stuffed. My friend had the chicken tacos and he seemed to enjoy it but again it wasn't anything that left us wanting to come back. You are better off eating at Taco Bell than here for Mexican food. The place has a nice parking lot (shares it with Pathmark, McDonalds, and a pizza place), and the wait staff seemed decent, but had some trouble getting water, needed to send out SOS signals and light flares apparently. The food is atrocious. I've only visited once, so ofcourse there is a small sample size bias here, but I wouldn't want to take a second chance here. Everything seemed watered down and pretty much tasteless. There didn't seem to be any distinct flavor to any of the food we ordered and seemed pretty much microwaved from the frozen section of your local grocery. I'm a vegetarian, so I can't say much for the meat options, but their veggie options were terrible. The Quesadilla was horrible and soggy like it rained on the way from the kitchen to the table, with anything and everything falling out. And it tasted extremely bland. The Burrito was horrible as well, tasted bland as well. The prices are ridiculous for this kind of food, and you are better of buying some tortillas and dipping them in store bought salsa than going here. There are some other good places for Mexican food in Yonkers (although none that are in close proximity to this one) so most people are better off going somewhere else. read more

I love this place! Their guacamole is made fresh, right in front of you, and either spicy or regular, and it is so delicious! I had the shrimp quesadilla, and my friend had the steak quesadilla and they were both really good! Came here after dinner elsewhere for some dancing on a Saturday night. There was a $5 cover charge for men ladies free. The music started out very good and diverse (although dj "scratch and sniff" changed the song every 40 seconds) and by the end of the night they seemed to be playing Mexican rancheros over and over! We spent over $300 on only drinks and they wouldn't give us water with ice...they forced us to purchase bottled water only!!!! What kind of restaurant refuses to give paying customers complimentary water...its water people are they really that desperate to make a buck?! They won't be making much money with that kind of customer service we won't be going back. And according to other Yelpers their food kinda stinks too if entertainment is what they have going for them they need to start treating their customers better and stop trying to nickel and dime everything!!! So I decided to give this place another try we stopped by during happy hour on a Friday afternoon and boy was it it a happy couple of hours. Drinks were great, our waiter an older man from DR was awesome and very attentive! The appetizers we had were very good and there was live entertainment, a mariachi band! We even got free ribs and fries to snack on because it was happy hour. I totally dig this place! Its a fun place to be to eat with your family or friends. They have good food and drinks but my favorite part of this restaurant is their live entertainment!!! I am all for having a live singer, band or DJ playing to danceable music while eating a good meal...and did I mention room for dancing? Yes! There's room to dance and the party gets started with many people getting off their chairs and start to dance to latin music...Bachata, Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia!! I loveeee it!
