Pork belly bao buns Miso Bold and Spicy Ramen
Anna T.

Forever my favorite ramen spot in the city! So happy there is one in Fulton! This was made super quick! I got the pork belly bao buns and the spicy garlic miso ramen. The bao buns were perfection. Everything went together really well and the bun was soft and perfect. The ramen is great! I added fish cake and highly recommend! Full or flavor, and it's not too salty! I love this spot so much!

Went to Fulton Market after a long time and noticed that Ramen Wasabi had opened so glad we stopped by. This is easily one of my top two ramen spots in Chicago. The pork broth spicy miso ramen is an absolute must try. The broth is rich deeply flavorful and perfectly balanced with heat. It is hands down one of the best I have had in the city. And the chicken karaage unreal. Crispy on the outside juicy on the inside and honestly the best karaage I have ever had. Portion sizes are very generous. We could not even finish everything but we left completely satisfied. Great food great experience and I will definitely be coming back.

Food: definitely a tier above the average ramen spots in Chicago, flavors were all really good and stood out for me Service: nice staff that accommodated a larger party with no reservation Ambiance: nice area, interior is a bit tiny so definitely recommend making reservations for larger parties

Food: Delicious vegetarian ramen with seitan for extra protein! I added the egg to mine as well and it was very filling. The noodles were nice and thin and perfectly done. The broth was served very hot and was delicious! Be sure to get some chili oil on the side for extra spice and add on the garlic chips! Also tried the tofu bao buns which were sooo good! The tofu is cut up into small pieces and is the perfect balance between sweet and spicy. The lychee martini was ok- more on the sour side. Ambience: This location is fairly small and does not do reservations so it can be hard to find a spot during prime but we were lucky to grab a spot at the bar. Service: Was not happy with the service. Our waitress was inattentive and seemed to have an attitude.

Yay for moving to Fulton Market! One of my favorite areas to hang! I had seen that Ramen Wasabi is now in Fulton Market and told my friend and we had to go! We were greeted right away and got seated. It's cute inside. Our waitress was super friendly and very accommodating. My friend and I were so hungry. We ordered a couple of appetizers - the carpaccio and the pork belly and kimchi spring rolls. We loved both of them! It was delicious! I got my usual the spicy roasted garlic miso ramen. It was exactly how I remembered it. A HUGE plus for me was also the fact that my bowl of ramen came out pipping hot! Like as in you can see the steam from the broth still. I love that because it felt comforting with warm hot broth on a cold night. It was what we both needed for our souls that night. I can't wait to come back again.

For the longest time, I was so confused about this location because it was Palilgu prior just a few months ago.. I've heard about Ramen Wasabi but it never made my list being it was in Logan Square. Most ramen places don't have reservations and the wait is always so long so I was always on their site waiting or reservations to open. I actually don't think their reservations actually exist. Every day I walk past, it doesn't seem incredibly crowded but it is a smaller space. We didn't know what to eat for dinner so we decided to stop by on a Friday night at 7pm. For a table of two, there wasn't a wait and we got to choose if we wanted to sit at the bar or a table. There aren't many tables and if you have a party of more than 2, it will definitely be a longer wait. We shared the nogoya wings which to me the sauce was a little too sweet for my preference but the wings were very moist and juicy. I just wish it wasn't submerged in the sauce because it took away from the crispiness of the chicken. For my ramen, I had the spicy garlic and had a few bites of the Sapporo ramen! I couldn't really tell the difference between normal ramen broth and Sapporo but it sure was very umami! I enjoyed my ramen a lot with the fried garlic chips and the thin noodles. The broth was very rich and comforting. As for the chashu, it was thick cut with a good bit of fat. After trying a handful of ramen places in Chicago, we've come to the realization that Chicago does ramen with thick cut pork while in California, it's thin cut! I wonder why that is.. if anyone knows, please do share!! The meat was really tender and flavored well but a bit too thick cut for me. Egg was cooked too perfection but I wish it had more flavor. The only thing I didn't like about the bowl was the bamboo shoots. I love love love bamboo shoots but these had a weird sweet aftertaste that I wasn't a big fan of. Glad Fulton is opening more casual dining options and definitely can't go wrong with another ramen joint!

This just opened up in Fulton market again and I was so sorry excited to learn that my favorite bao buns taste exactly how they used to! So flavorful and saucy! I was also impressed with the vegan ramen with the broth and the addition of seitan! Def add the garlic chips for a kick of flavor.

Definitely recommend the Sizzling Pork Belly and garlic rice. Was so flavorful but just a tiny bit salty, but overall so delicious. The ambiance in this place is so cozy and very chill. The only thing I would say about the place is - the music they played a was kind of loud, was a bit hard to talk to my friends across the table. And the service was top notch, Joe was so attentive, warm and kind. Will definitely come back!

I am a sucker for ramen and noodles of any kind, tbh! After hearing so much about Ramen Takeya from so many of my friends, I KNEW I had to check it out for myself! To start off, the aesthetics of this restaurant are so incredible that you actually feel like you're sitting at a ramen place in Japan! The decor and lighting and LED signs are just beautiful! We didn't have any reservations and were seated right away on a Friday evening which was amazing! The menu offers quite a few ramen options as well as appetizers and small bites. We ordered the fried chicken Bao buns, which were truly SO DELICIOUS! They had a sauce with some lettuce and greens under the fried chicken. The meat was so crispy and tender and the Bao buns were so soft and literally melted in my mouth!!! I would go back just to have these Bao buns again!! Now onto the star of the show.. their ramen. We ordered 3 bowls of the miso bold and spicy ramen and 1 bowl of the spicy chicken paitan. Both were absolutely delicious!!! The miso ramen has an incredible kick, the broth was so delicious, and there was just the perfect amount of noodles inside. I do wish they had more toppings than just onions but nonetheless, it was such a flavorful broth! The spicy chicken paitan had a creamy, spicy broth with mushrooms and onions! Again, absolutely delicious! This is definitely in my top 2 ramen in the city! Amazing vibes and even more amazing food! Will definitely be going back for more!!

Best ramen in Chicago, according to my boyfriend! I was hoping to try the Miso Bold and Spicy, but since it was out, I went with the Spicy Roasted Garlic Miso, while my boyfriend had the Vegan Tan Tan Men. Both were completely different in flavor, and we enjoyed them both. The Spicy Roasted Garlic Miso had a rich, deep broth, though the pork flavor was a bit strong for me. The Vegan Tan Tan Men was lighter but also very flavorful. We also ordered extra bamboo shoots and fried bean sprouts. Definitely a spot we'll be returning to.

A hip and trendy ramen spot in West Loop's Fulton Market that doesn't take reservations, so maybe expect a wait if you go at popular dinner times. Luckily, my friends and I got the last available table at 6 on a Friday, so we were seated immediately. The space is small and cozy, and the vibes were casual. The service is friendly and pretty quick. They have a mix of ramen, rice bowls, steamed bao buns, and small plates, but I opted for just ramen and got the Tokyo Classic Shoyu. It was quite delicious and satisfying, though the broth was too salty-- the saltiness in the broth unfortunately overpowered its other fragrant and hearty flavors. The noodles were well-cooked though and had a nice texture. The bamboo was soft and chewy, the egg delicious. The pork belly char siu was extremely tender, fatty, and flavorful. The ingredients in the bowl were great overall and fresh-- my only real complaint was the saltiness of the broth, which unfortunately diminished the consumption experience. Prices are pretty high ($16-17 per bowl), but standard for the area. I've only been to one other ramen spot in West Loop, but I would say the whole package (noodles + ingredients + broth) tasted better and fresher here. Overall, I was a fan and would like to try their vegan ramen in the future.

I was staying nearby and craving ramen. There are several ramen spots in Fulton Market, some of which are locations of popular ramen restaurants in Chicago. Looking for a new spot, I stopped in here. The restaurant was fairly quiet and I took a spot at the bar since I was flying solo. Looking at the menu, I gave the Tokyo Classic Shoyu a try. The noodles were well cooked. The broth was on the salty side for my taste. All in all it did the job of satisfying my quest for ramen. Service was very friendly and attentive, so I give it a try.

Stopped by before heading to a Blackhawks game. The space is small and narrow but we were comfy sitting 4 at one of the tables by the window. It's a bench type seat so no back support. The ramen broth is delicious! Perfect balance of umami and creamy broth - not a sweet broth like the ramen joint around the corner. The lychee cocktail is actually soooo goood! Flavorful and aromatic. If you're in the area, definitely stop by for the ramen. I'd say the better ramen of the choices available in this area.

The decor in here was nice and the dessert and cocktail menus were SO CUTE! I tried the 10 Hour Tonkotsu ramen, the xoxo shrimp and pork dumplings, and the spicy kimchi. The kimchi and dumpling combination was to die for!!! It had the perfect balance of flavor and spice. The dumplings were so crispy and juicy, and the kimchi was packed with lots of flavor. 10000/10 The ramen on the other hand, was just okay in my opinion. I asked if they could make it a bit spicy and the waiter said that the only way to add spicy was to order the sesame chili. I ordered that and mixed it into my ramen but it was still missing something, not quite sure what. I'd rate the ramen a 8/10. Nothing crazy but not bad. Overall would stop by again (if im in the area) to try other items on their menu. 9/10

The Alaskan cod sandwich was served on a bed of cabbage covered in a sweet teriyaki & brown mustard sauce with maybe a squeeze of kewpie sprinkled in between. The Berkshire pork eggrolls had microgreens & shaved radish on top of a crema type of sauce that balanced the heat of the kimchi nicely!! For the main attraction I ordered the spicy garlic ramen that was such a delightful mouth experience it really hit all the taste buds! The noodles were perfectly bouncy with the right amount of chew. The jellied egg was perfect and rounded the soup very well! The red chili threads enhanced the spicy miso broth just enough to slurp all the delicious goodness down! My husband ordered the Sapporo miso soup which had more of a creamy type of broth vs the spicy garlic. The noodles were also thinner than regular ramen & had a bouncy springy texture that just hit the spot! Since it was kinda chilly outside we also ordered hot green tea to accompany our spectacular ramen dishes. This place also offers delicious seasonal cocktails on the menu or hot sake if that's what you are hankering for. I was seated at a table and they brought out water right away. But that's where the service stopped. I was handed 3 menus... food, drinks, cocktail. It took forever to get one of the servers to come over and take my order. They were all huddled by the kitchen and hostess stand chatting with each other and on their cell phones. Finally one of them walked by my table and I had to get her attention and told her I would like to order. She brought out the iPad then looked around seeing if someone else should probably take the order. I felt I inconvenienced her. Got the tonkatsu shoyu ramen with black garlic and the takoyaki. Food came out fast. Takoyaki after the ramen but the takoyaki was delicious. Soft and creamy on the inside with the octopus was very tender. It was topped with plenty of katsuoboshi. Ramen was another story. Noodles had a really good chew as they advertised using sun noodle company. However the broth tasted very watered down and did not have the rich flavor and usually fat globules that make the soup. Cha siu was charred beautifully and portion size was good. Hopefully they can focus on the front of house service and the team can pay attention to customers. Maybe this is why there were only 6 customers at prime dinner time.

In no way had my body rested. Donned in dawn, my underwear-pajamas slightly slid down revealed a sad vision of man, sloppily tangled in ruffled sheets. Exposed. There is nothing pretty about me, I thought, as I pondered if the sunlight were judging what it saw. Before reaching my current perch on the living room couch, I sat in bed flicking through news in search of something good, but simultaneously only pausing on the bad. Glorifying in the doom, really. It was the pinch I needed to prove I was indeed awake. All day I seek the pinch of pain to prove I am not dreaming. Coffee, cats, clothes, splashof water, and 20 steps later I find myself in the planning pose, here in the living room. The planning pose is very much like the wake-startle, sans the sheets and exposed crack. It involves me laying here on the couch actually reading the articles I perused earlier. I like to rationalize that the information gleaned is to set me up for a day of human interaction. Perhaps it is a study session to get up to human-social-speed. Right now it is dawning on me -- my second uninvited dawn of the day -- that perhaps behavior isn't responsible humanity, it is prolonged self torment. The tighter pinch. The proverbial purple nurple of challenging my awakened state. Cats gather around me. One at my feet and the other curled beside my thigh. Am I king to them? They are fed. Surely they are not here in need of something. Have I done something to warrant this attention? My affection toward them is inconsistent. It ebbs in startling fits of overly attentive playing or petting followed by long droughts of disregard. My ambivalence as their king gives me this luxury, and supports my theory that they may think I am indeed king. This is the type of cyclical example loop I am using as evidence to propel me from the underwear'ed fat man the sun observed moments ago. Evidence that says: "See, Sun, I am more than the larva you spotlighted. I am a god! The cats are evidence! And they sleep in your sun-puddles in undisputed, recognizable perfection, not the ugly crack-exposed heap you found me in. You love them. They love me. So, pinch yourself, and stop judging me!" Obviously the coffee is working, or maybe the cats are doing their trick: making me feel accepted in the universe. Whatever the case may be, I pet my cat. Dander floats into the sun's beams and crystallizes in the air. If you've ever seen dust in a thinly sliced light beam at dawn you know: Hope is the accidental luck of shadows bouncing off of the chaos but always cutting through. Always meeting a surface. Penetrating the thickest of atmospheres and colliding on flowers and alleys, on well planned solar panels, on potholes, through any crack, on my crack, projecting obtuse triangles, acute bi-angles, and isosceles quad-tangles, even while penetrating deep into the sea, revealing all the magnificent details of art, and occasionally falling on me. Trees bend to it. I give the cat closest a good scratch behind the ear and look out the window at the trees greening in spring. A dog walker pauses to pick up excrement. A squirrel cowers behind a branch. The ramen restaurant on the corner is cut through by light warming empty tables; tables preparing to slurp up hungry, hopeful lunchers into the belly of contentment. Dark, seemingly an antagonist to light's hero demeanor, sheepishly slinks away, humbly realizing it is not the opposite of light, but the absence. "Beautiful," I think as I see the spicy broth of life warming in the sun glow beyond the glass. Yes. It is beautiful. It really is. I couldn't see how much in the dark but the rhythm out the window is now clear. I turn to my cat, who is winding down a purr. We share a slow-blink gaze at one another as the last sliver of dawn is replaced with shadow in my house. He moves to the window sill to soak in every second as it departs. "Welp, buddy. Nothing left now. Time to bend to the light"
