Chicken Shio

This was good takeout, but the broth was so salty it was hard to eat. I ordered an additional broth, and that was a waste of money. Pretty much just ate the food out of the broth because it was impossible to enjoy the broth. Disappointing when ordering hoping for a nice soup when being sick!

Went to Ramen-San Deluxe on a Thursday evening and it was a good thing we had a reservation! The place was packed, but they quickly flipped tables as much as they could. The table we sat at was uncomfortable, sort of picnic table style, but that was the only negative thing about the entire experience. The food was delicious, well developed flavors with plenty of spice range options. Our waitress was nice and attentive. I would def recommend this spot!

First meal in Chicago! Wanted to try their ramen. Two of us ordered: strawberry shochu spritz $15, small drink tuna and avocado tartare $16 japanese eggplant fries $11 10 hour tonkotsu $18 sumo bowl $23 restaurant surcharge $3.5% Flavors were ok. Noodle quality was not good, not fresh and noodle was stuck together. Eggplant fries were good, though a bit heavy on breading. Ramen bowls had a lot less soup than expected, sumo bowl the mix of everything didn't fit very well. Overall, had high expectations, and didn't come close to meeting them for the price tag.

Same experience each time. Great place to grab a bowl of ramen and chill in the city with a good vibe. The service is good and the atmosphere is relaxed. The food is always good. The only thing I would complain about was my Yuzu highball. It didn't have a nice citrus taste. It was more of a watered down, I've sat to long cocktail. Other than that, highly recommend this Ramen location!! You won't be disappointed.

I ordered takeout from Ramen-San Deluxe for my husband and me earlier this month (6/5). We had just arrived to Chicago that evening. We had walked over from our hotel hoping to dine-in, but the host told me that the wait time for a table for two was over an hour. It was a Friday night, plus it was also the weekend of the Chicago Blues Festival at Millennium Park, Pokémon GO Fest at Grant Park, and a USMNT vs. Germany Soccer game at Solder Field. If (when) we return to Chicago, we will definitely try to go to Ramen-San Deluxe for a sit down meal because the takeout food was really good. If the takeout was that good, imagine food straight out of their kitchen. After almost 7 hours on the road that day and settling into the hotel, I went crazy with the takeout order and got a bunch of things. Everything was delicious. - Miso Ramen - Bang Bang Shrimp - Eggplant Fingers - Pork Belly Ramen - Spicy Tofu Buns

Ramen San Deluxe blew us away with their appetizers, setting high expectations while we marched into the entrees. Their eggplant fries (weird, I know) were an unconventional, tempura style veggie dish that checked the wow factor of this restaurant for me. That along with the crispy wings, brussels sprouts, and chicken bites alone would have been 5 stars for me. However, once we hit the entrees, we hit a cliff. You ever see a movie where the character introductions are fantastic, the exposition is exciting, and the buildup is promising but the movie lacks depth, character development, and an interesting plot line? That's how we felt about the entrees. We ordered the Sumo bowl, the 10 hr tonkatsu, and the kimchi and fried chicken. The ramen itself was mediocre, nothing special or particularly delicious. The chashu was well seasoned and had good texture, but the rest of the ramen was okay. Overall I would 100% recommend the appetizers here, and give the ramen (and sushi) a shot, but don't expect anything crazy.

This was the best food ever! I am so happy to have this so close to our hotel. The bang bang shrimp and the bao buns were delicious. Our server was very nice and got our food to us very fast. I will be back to eat this again before my trip ends. You definitely need to go here while in town.

Great service from our server! Ramen was yummy and egg was perfectly cooked. I found the salmon a bit overcooked but my cousin enjoyed it. The rice was on the dry side as well, but still yummy. Good vibes and music.

Stopped in for lunch on a Tuesday with a party of three and managed to snag the last available booth right before the place completely filled up. While it wasn't a terrible experience, the food itself was pretty average and served lukewarm. The pricing felt a bit high for the quality and portion sizes, though that's somewhat expected for downtown Chicago. Overall, it's not somewhere we'd return to, but it got the job done for a quick lunch.

My favorite ramen place when coming to the Windy City. Was smart this time and got a reservation in advance since it's typically busy in the evenings and they'll subject you to the bar. It was very convenient as we were seated promptly at a table. Wings were great and the ramen was good as always. Certainly will be back.

On a chilly Chicago evening, ramen felt like the appropriate meal. I walked in and was seated at the bar immediately. The vibe is dark moody with moderate noise. The menus featured an option or two to satisfy most tastes. I started with the spicy cucumbers, they were delicious and an unexpected flavor profile of sweet, savory and spicy. My main was the chicken ramen. Flavorful broth with perfectly cooked roasted chicken.

Kaarage Chicken Nuggetsnuggets
Adrienne A.

The karaage was so tasty, reminded me of lemon pepper wings! The bento box had so much, I couldn't even finish my sushi actually, but it was all very good! My husband did the basic tonkatau ramen and thought it was very good too. A good choice for some ramen and sushi, and prices are comparable to what I typically see at other ramen spots.

The night before running the Chicago Marathon I was by myself and just wanted an easy meal before heading back to my room to decompress and try to get some sleep. I noticed this ramen joint across from the hotel I was staying at and decided ramen was what I craved. Walking inside I noticed a young crowd, cool vibe, and some great old school rap and hip hop music being played. I took a seat at the bar area and struck up a conversation with a few other runners doing the same as I was. Bartender was friendly and offered some suggestions. Needless to say I had a nice bowl of ramen here, the Chicken Shio. Arrived quick and hot. Tasted good enough to me and was loaded with ingredients. Just right to help fuel me up for the upcoming race. I'm not really a ramen snob so I enjoyed my meal, and if you're one to complain about the music here you're getting too old as I heard plenty of bangers from the 90s and early 2000s rap/hip-hop playing the whole time I was here. It's a whole vibe.

Amazing ramen. My sister in law got a gift card for her to get food for us while I was in rehab post cancer nearby at Shirley Ryan in 2021.

The response I received was essentially, "I don't know." Since I had a reservation, I was then asked for my name. After I gave it, I was told that they couldn't find it and couldn't pronounce my name, so I should look for it myself. I was honestly quite taken aback by the way the situation was handled. I tried to be understanding, thinking that the staff may simply have had a long and busy day, but I'm leaving this review in the hope that the next guest has a better experience. If, when I first asked about the closing time, someone had simply said, "We're sorry for the confusion. We stop accepting new customers at 9:00 PM, but we will continue serving guests with reservations," the whole situation could have been resolved pleasantly for everyone. And before telling a guest, "I can't pronounce your name and I can't find your reservation, so you find it yourself," it would have taken very little effort to scroll down just a little further. My reservation was there.

Ramen Wasabi has no reservations. The wait times vary, but sometimes there are seats readily available. There are bar seats available and a large middle table that you share with other parties. Service has always been good for us, and we're known as regulars there now Karaage - Fried Chicken Nuggets: An absolute must for any craving. Plenty to share with friends and the togarashi mayo dip is super delicious with it. Juicy bites with crispy batter, making everything about this appetizer perfect. Signature Tonkotsu (with Spice Umami): the noodles are sooo bouncy. I love how rich the broth is and how easy it is to bite into the Char Siu. It is so filling and honestly reminds me of my time in Japan. Tokyo Classic Shoyu (with Spice Umami): lighter broth compared to the tonkotsu, but just as delicious. This is another must-try! Ramen Wasabi will always remain as my top ramen shop in Chicago. Never had a miss with this. This is a unique ramen spot that specializes in beef-ramen! You don't find many spots like that,…read moresince many ramen shops tend to have pork broth or char siu (pork). We didn't come in with a reservation, but were seated very quickly (within 10 mins) at the bar. It was very cool to be able to watch the chefs cook up your ramen while you were seated! It has a fairly dark and intimate dining area, making it a great place for a date night. The Shoyu Plus had a unique depth to its broth, with delicious flavors within each bite. Something that I noticed was that it had a lighter broth compared to your traditional tonkotsu (pork broth) ramen. The Miso Wagyu is a smaller version of the Monster Ramen (their specialty). This was a decent size with again, lots of flavor. The broth was a little thicker (not too thick, but due to the miso). But it was just as good as the Shoyu Plus. If I had to choose between the two, I really liked the Shoyu Plus. But if it's your first time, try their speciality! Good depth in their broths, and an amazing place for those who cannot eat pork to still enjoy ramen here

I was skeptical when I first heard the name Monster Ramen. All my previous personal experiences…read morehave always proven to me that restaurants with names that don't represent their culture in distinct ways are generally subpar. For example, I would usually never even think to step into a restaurant named Best China House, Sushi Bistro, or Mom's Korean Restaurant. (Apologies if your shops are named as such. These were meant to be generic examples) Oh, how times have changed. I would have never thought having a bowl of ramen at a Monster Ramen would give me this much pleasure. Part of it will (in fact, most of it) be on me and my general philosophy on fusion cuisine and outdated gemerational gap. There was definitely a time when avoiding agorementioned type of restaurants may have been deemed smart. But I feel the new generation of restaurant owners and chefs have up'd their games in not only at better food making, but also accepting of a bit more irony. Anyone who knows me knows how much I stay away from trying anything "fusion." It's kinda funny to myself how hypocritical it is that I would be totally okay in substituting an ingredient or two when I'm missing some when cooking, but when it comes to paying money to sit and eat that I would judge chefs by thier style of cooking. Yes, a big part of it is based on a large pool of personally gathered data, but I do acknowledge that I need to open myself up a bit more. Case in point. I was recommended MR by a fellow Yelper and I decided to give it a whirl. I happened to have a friend and his son with me, so I was able to do small tastings of 3 different ramen. And boy, was I pleasantly surprised. We collectively had bowls of shio, shoyu and miso specials. Plus, I ended up getting the Summer Special bowl to go for my wife. All of them had their individual charm to them but more importantly, each of them were made to perfection when it came to broth seasoning and noodle texture, which are THE two most important aspect of ramen, in my opionion. Not too salty nor bland soup. Perfectly dense noodles. I just loved all four! It wad when I tasted the yuzu in tgeir shio ramen that my wife would love it. Even though I brought her the spicy Sunmer version home, I still think it'll be worth bringing her and our daughter back when we get a chance to. Our server Dionne (I think) was most pleasant and helpful. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, too. It helped that I came before the dinner rush, although, I can also see more lively vibe being nice as well. Will be back with the fam definitely!
