Their happy hour is such a good deal. Love their drinks. They have a variety of rolls to choose from and love their mango crab rangoon. Their service is great and the ambiance inside is my favorite. They have a lot of locations like in Lincoln park and river north.
I tried this restaurant on two different nights while traveling for work. On the first night, the service was a little slow for sitting at the bar, where a bartender is usually very attentive. The second night, the service at the bar was much better. The restaurant has a cool vibe with hanging lanterns. The sushi rolls came out quickly and were fresh and delicious. I will come back the next time I am in town, and hopefully the service will be on point.
I LOVE this place. As a vegetarian, having more options than just an avocado or cucumber roll is so refreshing. I've tried both the Eden and Thai Hippie rolls and highly recommend both! The cocktails are also amazing. Not to mention I really appreciate how long their happy hour deals go
Super cute sushi spot with fresh fish and friendly service. We tried the Hawaiian, hot popper, and lion king rolls, and the yellowtail Serrano sashimi. I didn't expect the Hawaiian roll to be deep fried but overall satisfied with the quality of the fish and the plates were ideal for sharing. The crispy brussels were a standout for us. For drinks, the Tokyo Fizz was fruity and deliciously refreshing and I would've ordered a second if it wasn't close to closing time. As someone who lives in the neighborhood, this spot is a new addition to my rotation of go-to restaurants!
The place is very spacious and have friendly staff. We went on a weekday afternoon around lunch time, but the place was kind of empty. The food was okay. Nothing spectacular. The rolls tasted like one another. The mango crab rangoon was good, but I wish it was crispier. It wasn't fried right. I noticed that the menu also had vegan options.

Great setting / ambiance - vast dining room, pretty empty around lunchtime though (at least on a Monday) I really love that they are transparent about their sources (not that it impacts my order, but just makes the experience genuine). The sushi was gorgeous! The crunchy LA roll had too much sweet chili sauce though, and not much other flavor beyond that. My lion king roll was fantastic though. They had $5 January vegan specials, so we got the Thai hippie roll, which was solid. I'm not too much of a sushi snob so I would return! Great vibe, great food, great value.
Ordered via Uber Eats: - Lion King (9.5/10): loved this roll, the flavors were so good together and it wasn't that spicy. Wish the portion was a bit larger for the price. - cloud nine 2.0 (8/10): a lighter roll with the sea bass really taking over the flavor even though it's just a small piece on top. Would've been a bigger fan if I liked sea bass more (which in hindsight I should've predicted). Appreciate the creativity of each roll, fish quality was also good although my choices were mostly fully cooked. Although prices were higher, I was plenty full after these two rolls and it ended up around $35 which I expect would've been lower in-person.

I haven't run into many problems throughout life and trying new places with my cashew allergy but here they said every food that had a fried component had potential contamination. Went to Blue Sushi Sake Grill on a Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised to find out they were doing happy hour pure luck, but a great start. The place wasn't too packed at all, so I definitely wouldn't say a reservation is necessary, at least during the day. It's a huge space, and we were able to walk right in and get a table. There's also a really cool bar area if you're just stopping in for drinks and quick bites. We kicked things off with Japanese beer, which was solid, and my friend got a sake bomb that he really enjoyed. Then we dove into the happy hour menu, which is massive. Honestly, if you wanted to order strictly from that menu, you could easily do a full meal. We split the calamari and the mango crab rangoons. The calamari was awesome, but the crab rangoons were next-level, easily a 10/10. Two great appetizer choices. For sushi, we ordered a mix of happy hour rolls and one regular menu roll. I got the Hot Popper and the Lion King from the happy hour menu, plus the Godzilla roll off the regular menu, which our server recommended. Shoutout to her, the menu is huge, and she pointed me toward one of their most popular rolls, which absolutely delivered. All three rolls were phenomenal, but the Hot Popper was my favorite, and the fact that it's on the happy hour menu makes it an automatic reorder for me. Overall, this meal was fantastic, especially for the price. This place feels like a sleeper hit. We each had drinks, split two apps, and I personally had three rolls, and it came out to around $60 per person which is a steal for sushi of this quality. The happy hour menu is an absolute bargain, and we also learned they do happy hour all day on Sundays, and their normal happy hour runs longer than most places. Bottom line: Blue Sushi Sake Grill is a must-try for sushi lovers. Amazing food, great value, and I'll definitely be back.
Finally got to check this place out! I forgot to take a picture of the drinks and food. We got the Cali roll, Just Shrimp Tempura Maki, Cowgirl and Green Goddess (last two from the Vegan section). My favorite was the Green Goddess but everything was delicious! The decor is very pretty and the waiter was nice to go over the menu being my first time there. For drinks, I got the Bluetini and my friend got Gin&Ginger, both also good, mine was slightly sweeter. One of the best sushi I have had so definitely will be back! A solid 2.5-3 stars but not more. I would actually consider it significantly overrated on yelp. The atmosphere and patrons resembled more a sports bar, and I missed any touch of elegance. While I asked to be seated at the empty sushi bar, I was directed to sit at the equally empty regular bar which among other things was unpleasant for the cold ventilation blowing straight into my neck. And the food was mediocre: I never before had to add soy sauce to a seaweed salad, but it was unbearably bland without. The truffle salmon sashimi sounded like a great idea but consisted of so little and thin fish drowning in so much oil without detectable truffle flavor that it failed to be enjoyable. The cali roll's rice had barely survived a drought. The unagi nigiri was ok. The rainbow roll had thicker fish and matched the weather, but the real rainbow outside was more beautiful. No plans to come back here (unless forced).

Blue Sushi is an amazing spot to satisfy those crazy sushi cravings in a great budget friendly manner. They had tons of vegetarian options, which I loved! We had at the bar and had real quick service. They were also able to accommodate my avocado allergy requests for their popular sushi and maki rolls. Great deals available on every single day!! Allow me to preface this with the best sushi I have had in the continental United States is located in Denver, Colorado, and I am Asian. Blue Sushi Sake Grill had some pretty lofty reviews on Yelp, so I gave it a shot. The service was great on a Friday night and the entire restaurant was packed (with only two single-occupancy restrooms available for everyone). The house hot sake and beer I ordered were delivered promptly and of good quality. That's where the accolades end. The seaweed salad, while tasty, was a minimal portion sitting on top of a mix of lettuce and cucumbers that detracted from the seaweed itself. Then my first round of rolls arrived. I ordered salmon nigiri, which was good (and is pretty difficult to screw up), and two specialty rolls, one a seared seabass, the other raw tuna. The rolls were sloppily made and devoid of any true exotic flavor. Not the worst sushi I have ever had, but far from the best. I tried a third specialty roll, which was better taste wise, but still overall sloppy. The overall ambiance was good with Japanese themed crap all over the place. If you're an inexperienced sushi eater, you might be pleasantly satisfied with your experience. If you have had decent sushi at any point, you will be left wanting. Also, I didn't see a single Asian staff member during the entirety of my dinner. YMMV. read more

I was starving and it's not unusual for me to have a sushi craving so the closest spot to the hotel that intrigued me most was this spot. I placed the order online and picked it up and got The Lion King, Hawaiian, and crunchy red roll. I definitely over ordered and I ate as much as I could because it was so delicious something about maybe the way that they packaged it or the mood I was in, but I did feel somewhat transported to another place enjoying my meal. It might've been enhanced with the Prosecco I was pairing it with. The sauces were incredible. I want a bottle or a jar of some of it. The sushi rolls were pretty good. We were there with a large group, and we really liked the presentation of the rolls served on a boat-shaped platter. The appetizers were excellent - I highly recommend ordering their pepper dish and chicken dish (unfortunately, I don't remember the exact names). Everything was delicious. Had the pleasure of dining here as my last dinner in Chicago! I found this spot via OpenTable and it was widely reviewed by locals and tourists. I made a reservation for my colleague and me for 6 pm on a Sunday night! The interior is absolutely beautiful with the lanterns decorated all around the restaurant. It's just harsh lighting to look at the menu with dark orange lights shining down... Anyways, service was great! Our server gave us great recommendations and Sunday is all day happy hour! I got the passion paloma and it was refreshing, sweet, and tasty! I then got two dishes from the happy hour menu: mango crab Rangoon and crispy Brussels sprouts. The crab rangoons were highly popular, but they're overhyped since they taste like ordinary crab Rangoons with mango extract on the bottom. The Brussels sprouts were so crispy, so much flavor that balanced out the bitterness. Then, I got the Godzilla Bomb as my roll! It was delicious, lots of fish, and great spice. There was a slight mixup with my colleague's order in which the kitchen brought the wrong item. Then, there was concern about a 3.5% convenience charge by the restaurant on the bill. Big fan of the food at Blue Sushi Sake and Grill. Our last visit left us very happy yet again. We had gone to the restaurant for a late lunch and picked items from their happy hour menu. We picked the fried calamari, charred edamame, mango crab wontons and sushi. We paired the food with cocktails suggested by our server. Loved everything we had. Our server was fantastic and amazing with recommendations. Food came pretty quick. Cannot wait for my next visit! read more

Came here for happy hour deals on a Saturday evening. Loveee that their happy hour extends to weekends and later in the evening, prices are very reasonable. Service was kind and food didn't take too long. The restaurant is clean inside and has cool lighting in the back. We got the crispy rice tuna and it was definitely the best dish we got. 10/10. Then we got the sake and tekka rolls which I thought were plain (just the fish inside and no sauce) but on us for not picking a more creative roll I guess but my friends don't like cream cheese and I can't eat shellfish so that narrows down options. The salmon skin roll we all thought was.... Interesting. Not bad but wouldn't order again. My friends loved the crunchy red tho and said it was their favorite. Overall: affordable, cute sushi spot in River North but not the best sushi I've ever had. read more
I love this new location! It's just as nice as the Lincoln park location but with less wait and more central location for those in downtown. The food is great as always and the service is good. I like how everything tastes fresh and the price is a good mid point- which I find to be difficult to find these days. Sushi tends to be too cheap or too pricey and this to me is a great midpoint. The happy hour deals are also great. Can't beat the happy hour sushi and cheap hot sake. Also good vegan/ vegetarian options! read more

This place is so good and definitely happy to have come across it. I dined here with four others and we were able to be seated quickly. Our server was great and timely with menus and waters. Please note they do have a happy menu and it really worth it. We ordered so many types of sushi (even a vegan one) and all were delicious. I don't remember the names - however don't allow that to discourage you from exploring the menu. All the rolls we tried were so delicious. There isn't one I wouldn't do. read more

I went to the happy hour in the river north location! The hours and the quantity of food for the price was so worth it! I can't wait to go back! As a vegetarian, I'm always looking for a place that offers versatile vegan/vegetarian options that have different flavors. Every single roll had a distinct flavor! I will always be a fan of this happy hour and even my friends that eat meat enjoy every single vegan roll. The service was good, however, we did feel a bit rushed to leave once most of our food was finished despite the restaurant being pretty empty at the time. All in all, I would definitely come back! The happy hours are not crowded and the restaurant is so spacious with a lovely ambiance! The drink menu also had good variety, and the red wine was a solid pour! read more

Went here for happy hour! They have a huge variety of different options and the drinks were tasty as well. I got the sangria and it was really good. The lion king roll was also my favorite and the ceviche. It is a little pricier for a happy hour and I found myself still spending a decent amount but since it's sushi it still is a good deal. read more

I had finished a meeting early and while walking back, noticed Blue Sushi. I was familiar with it from Austin because they have an excellent vegan menu and also a great happy hour menu. I sat at the bar and was taken care of by Ian - who was affable and friendly without being overly chatty as I preferred a quiet meal. The vegan rolls are well put together with lots of flavors and textures. I'll be sure to return. read more

This place is really cute and vibey. At 5 pm, they dim the lights a little more to set the mood and I love how nice it is inside. The happy hour menu is also solid and has a lot to choose from. Blue sushi sake grill was my go-to place when I used to live in Dallas, Texas. I am so glad they opened a branch in the heart of Chicago city. I recently visited this place with my girlfriends for dinner. The check-in process was pretty smooth, despite being a weekend night they were not too busy and getting a table was fairly easy. We ordered two house sake flights for the table and a couple of cocktails. Moonstone Coconut Lemongrass sake was my absolute favourite. Its creamy coconut texture was very smooth and delicious. We also ordered a couple of apps, sushis and nigiris for the table. We tried crispy Brussels' sprouts, Shishito peppers, Cowgirl, Thai Hippie Maki, Shitake to me, and Kaluna nigiri. Probably the nigiri was my least favourite, rest all tasted delicious. What I absolutely love about this place is their extensive Vegan selection of sushis! The hospitality and ambiance were also pretty impressive. Do give this place a try if you like Japanese cuisine, you will not be disappointed! read more
