A solid 2.5-3 stars but not more. I would actually consider it significantly overrated on yelp. The atmosphere and patrons resembled more a sports bar, and I missed any touch of elegance. While I asked to be seated at the empty sushi bar, I was directed to sit at the equally empty regular bar which among other things was unpleasant for the cold ventilation blowing straight into my neck. And the food was mediocre: I never before had to add soy sauce to a seaweed salad, but it was unbearably bland without. The truffle salmon sashimi sounded like a great idea but consisted of so little and thin fish drowning in so much oil without detectable truffle flavor that it failed to be enjoyable. The cali roll's rice had barely survived a drought. The unagi nigiri was ok. The rainbow roll had thicker fish and matched the weather, but the real rainbow outside was more beautiful. No plans to come back here (unless forced).

The food here was very flavorful. They cater well to vegan/vegetarian diets but if you have a nut allergy majority of the menu is not a good choice. I haven't run into many problems throughout life and trying new places with my cashew allergy but here they said every food that had a fried component had potential contamination. The service was fast and the environment was welcoming.

Super cute sushi spot with fresh fish and friendly service. We tried the Hawaiian, hot popper, and lion king rolls, and the yellowtail Serrano sashimi. I didn't expect the Hawaiian roll to be deep fried but overall satisfied with the quality of the fish and the plates were ideal for sharing. The crispy brussels were a standout for us. For drinks, the Tokyo Fizz was fruity and deliciously refreshing and I would've ordered a second if it wasn't close to closing time. As someone who lives in the neighborhood, this spot is a new addition to my rotation of go-to restaurants!

The place is very spacious and have friendly staff. We went on a weekday afternoon around lunch time, but the place was kind of empty. The food was okay. Nothing spectacular. The rolls tasted like one another. The mango crab rangoon was good, but I wish it was crispier. It wasn't fried right. I noticed that the menu also had vegan options.

Omg I just moved to Chicago, and I love this place so much. So glad I stumbled upon it!

Stopped by for lunch happy hour. Great setting / ambiance - vast dining room, pretty empty around lunchtime though (at least on a Monday) I really love that they are transparent about their sources (not that it impacts my order, but just makes the experience genuine). The sushi was gorgeous! The crunchy LA roll had too much sweet chili sauce though, and not much other flavor beyond that. My lion king roll was fantastic though. They had $5 January vegan specials, so we got the Thai hippie roll, which was solid. I'm not too much of a sushi snob so I would return! Great vibe, great food, great value.

The happy hour menu really can't get any better, I love it here. I wasn't impressed by everything on the menu, ie. the edamame and tidal wave roll, but that lion king roll and bluetini cocktail...10/10! Service was friendly, very lively ambiance and an overall good time. This is my new go-to happy hour sushi spot for sure.

    CLOUD NINE 2.0

Ordered via Uber Eats: - Lion King (9.5/10): loved this roll, the flavors were so good together and it wasn't that spicy. Wish the portion was a bit larger for the price. - cloud nine 2.0 (8/10): a lighter roll with the sea bass really taking over the flavor even though it's just a small piece on top. Would've been a bigger fan if I liked sea bass more (which in hindsight I should've predicted). Appreciate the creativity of each roll, fish quality was also good although my choices were mostly fully cooked. Although prices were higher, I was plenty full after these two rolls and it ended up around $35 which I expect would've been lower in-person.

All day Sunday happy hour! Vegan menu! Welcoming staff. Heaven. Been wanting to eat here for years. Walked in on a Sunday evening and it was buzzing. We were seated immediately. Our server was delightful. I wish I got his name. They have a massive selection of plant based sushi and loads of fresh fish for omnis. I will be back every time I'm in the city after this extraordinary meal.

I was starving and it's not unusual for me to have a sushi craving so the closest spot to the hotel that intrigued me most was this spot. I placed the order online and picked it up and got The Lion King, Hawaiian, and crunchy red roll. I definitely over ordered and I ate as much as I could because it was so delicious something about maybe the way that they packaged it or the mood I was in, but I did feel somewhat transported to another place enjoying my meal. It might've been enhanced with the Prosecco I was pairing it with. The sauces were incredible. I want a bottle or a jar of some of it. I will definitely come back and get more sushi from here.

Went to Blue Sushi Sake Grill on a Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised to find out they were doing happy hour pure luck, but a great start. The place wasn't too packed at all, so I definitely wouldn't say a reservation is necessary, at least during the day. It's a huge space, and we were able to walk right in and get a table. There's also a really cool bar area if you're just stopping in for drinks and quick bites. We kicked things off with Japanese beer, which was solid, and my friend got a sake bomb that he really enjoyed. Then we dove into the happy hour menu, which is massive. Honestly, if you wanted to order strictly from that menu, you could easily do a full meal. We split the calamari and the mango crab rangoons. The calamari was awesome, but the crab rangoons were next-level, easily a 10/10. Two great appetizer choices. For sushi, we ordered a mix of happy hour rolls and one regular menu roll. I got the Hot Popper and the Lion King from the happy hour menu, plus the Godzilla roll off the regular menu, which our server recommended. Shoutout to her, the menu is huge, and she pointed me toward one of their most popular rolls, which absolutely delivered. All three rolls were phenomenal, but the Hot Popper was my favorite, and the fact that it's on the happy hour menu makes it an automatic reorder for me. Overall, this meal was fantastic, especially for the price. This place feels like a sleeper hit. We each had drinks, split two apps, and I personally had three rolls, and it came out to around $60 per person which is a steal for sushi of this quality. The happy hour menu is an absolute bargain, and we also learned they do happy hour all day on Sundays, and their normal happy hour runs longer than most places. Bottom line: Blue Sushi Sake Grill is a must-try for sushi lovers. Amazing food, great value, and I'll definitely be back.

Finally got to check this place out! I forgot to take a picture of the drinks and food. We got the Cali roll, Just Shrimp Tempura Maki, Cowgirl and Green Goddess (last two from the Vegan section). My favorite was the Green Goddess but everything was delicious! The decor is very pretty and the waiter was nice to go over the menu being my first time there. For drinks, I got the Bluetini and my friend got Gin&Ginger, both also good, mine was slightly sweeter. One of the best sushi I have had so definitely will be back! There are a few other locations as well- one in Naperville, in Lincoln Square, and Grand Ave.

    Ceviche

I'd return to Chicago just for Blue Sushi Sake Grill. Service 10/10. Ceviche was fantastic, and the Beach and Roja rolls were incredible! Happy Hour ftw!

Candidly it wasn't on my to-do, but the restaurant happened to be on my route back to my hotel and I hadn't had dinner yet. I walked into the restaurant, and there was a spot open right at the bar waiting for me. I think it was meant to be. Loved the vibe of the restaurant, which was casual but trendy. Best part of all was the music. My ears perked up when I heard Hieroglyphics - The Who... A Plus Remix. Instantly felt "at home" with the underground, old school hip hop. Compliments to their curated Pandora playlist. I ordered the the spicy scallop roll, super san roll, and sawara (Spanish mackerel) nigiri. The spicy scallop roll was my favorite. The super san roll was a mix of their toro with varying fattiness. I appreciated that you could order half rolls at Sushi-San, which came out to 5 pieces instead of 10. This was more than enough food for me. The sawara was buttery and fresh. If you don't like the "fishiness" of saba, you'll enjoy sawara. Lastly, overall customer service was great. The food came out incredibly fast. The bartender who assisted me was awesome. He was attentive and personable.

I came with a friend for lunch during the week and they have a somewhat decent lunch special (for today's standards when factoring the cost of living and inflation). We took advantage of that and ordered the 3 combo platter per person so we got 6 total items since there was two of us. The highlights for us were three yellowtail yuzu sushi as well as the salmon rice bowl. The miso soup that came out first wasn't that great. It was overly salty. My friend who is from Japan that I ate with said this place was ok for American standards but not at all great compared to anything in Japan lol.

It clearly is for all their locations. Unfortunately, here at Chinatown's location, when they attempted to scan the card, the staff said it does not work and only works at the Printer's Row location. I ended up calling the Printer's Row location and had the team talk to the manager at the Chinatown location, and the manager at the Chinatown location kept their stance that it does not work, stating Printer's Row location does not know why the gift card does not work at the Chinatown location, and will not make any exceptions to accepting the gift card. Thankfully at the Printer's Row location, they are stating it's due to their system being new as they are a new location, and reason why the gift card is not working at all the locations yet which they are now working on to fix so it does not happen to any other customer moving forward. I just wish the Chinatown location showed some compassion to address the issue and still accommodate the inconvenience instead of us having to go back to the Printer's Row location to use the gift card Price: Approximately $20, not including tip for 2 people. My only critique is the pacing. Since the chef already had the fish sliced and prepped, I expected a smoother flow, but the meal took about an hour and a half for 14 pieces of sushi. The taki yoki fritters weren't bad either. We saw people getting omakase, so we ordered a yummy looking piece they were receiving. It was just okay (chutoro truffle). The nigiri was also okay. The tuna piece was the only I really loved. The fish quality wasn't as high as I was expecting. The sushi was decent. A little too much truffle in the spicy blue fin tuna and a little too vegetable forward in the hamachi serrano. All in all, the atmosphere and amazing service pushed this up to a 4 for me.
