Really great food for the price! I had walked by this place but hadn't tried it until recently. They have great vegetarian options and a big drink menu as well. The food came out quite quick, even the fried food which could take a bit longer. The place is really beautiful inside, decorated with florals. I would definitely return :)
**First Timer** I found this lovely restaurant walking the streets of Chicago. This one I found on Rush Avenue. It's a great little spot with plenty of options. We had the fried tuna sushi along with the pink sushi ( ask for it ). It was a wonderful summer day and we sat outside and had a wonderful meal. We ended up having three rolls. Yum Yum. Definitely recommend. Looking forward to returning.
Such a cute spot for an intimate dinner date or a night with friends!! I've ordered take out from here before but finally got the chance to dine in the other night. We were easily able to make a reservation on a Saturday night and we were seating immediately upon arriving. We got a couple of different rolls to share - the Can You Handle It?, Muskateer, the veggie gyoza and the Rainbow Roll. I really enjoyed each of them. The Can You Handle It was a bit spicy - I thought it was really good but if you don't like any spice I would stay away from this one. I also got an espresso martini which was a nice start to the evening. The servers were super friendly and attentive! I would definitely go back for these rolls and the service again. Great spot!

The standout for me was definitely the scallops butteryaki; super rich, buttery, and paired perfectly with mushrooms. The space is small but cozy, which honestly adds to the charm. Service was A+, attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. Definitely a spot I'd come back to.

It's a very intimate setting, prompt and friendly service, with a solid and plentiful menu. I got a lychee martini, spicy miso soup, and the fire dragon roll. Everything was delicious. I was hoping to be more blown away by the roll, but I'd definitely return and get the same one again. Also still thinking about that miso soup! My entire party enjoyed their meals as well. Missed opportunity: add crab rangoon to the menu!
Picked friends sushi on rush for our valentines day lunch and off the bat it was a great choice! To start, the ambience - they had done a bunch of cute decorations which got us in our Valentine's Day mood. We got started with a wine for myself and the hubby got a pomegranate martini. The cocktail was a fun blend of sweet and tart. Dived straight into a two bowls of spicy miso soup which might have been the best miso soup I've had. Pair that with the spicy edamame and it was the perfect start! Then came our sushi, the truffle me softly had a great flavour of truffle, and crunchy jalapeno - the perfect balance. The friend's sushi was indulgent, with lobster, shrimp tempura, cream cheese and spicy mayo. Definitely worth trying that one! All in all, a fun experience at friends sushi and we'll be back again to try their other fare!
Friends Sushi never fails to deliver top notch sushi! It's become my go-to place for a Rainbow Roll and a Philadelphia Roll. I'm still perfecting my chopstick skills (mangled one of my bites ). I also highly recommend their tempura veggies. They're delightful (just didn't get them this round, but have in the past). Verdict: Look no further for your sushi fix

It's the perfect date spot. It just feels so intimate here. As for the food, I loved it! I got the Yakuza sushi, and it was delicious. I can't remember which sushi my friend got, but she loved hers too. We also tried the miso soup, and I really need Friends to tell me where they get their tofu from or how they got such a great texture on it. Honestly, leaving there, I looked up miso soup recipes because it left me wanting more. The prices here aren't so bad either. I paid around $45 including tip for my sushi, miso soup, and to-go california rolls. The staff is also quite friendly. They check on you when necessary but leave you be for the most part, which I like. Overall, a great place! Can't wait to go back soon!

I'd heard some good things about this spot, so figured I'd finally check it out. The vibe is definitely low-key, especially considering how close it is to the hustle of Michigan Ave. The interior is on the smaller side, cozy and intimate, but we were able to walk in on a Sunday evening and get seated right away. I imagine it could fill up fast depending on the night, but we lucked out. Started off with a Sapporo, which was nice and crisp. For appetizers, we shared the edamame and karaage chicken. The edamame was great, no complaints there. The chicken was flavorful, though a bit on the chewy side and the portion wasn't huge. That said, the sauce it came with was really tasty. I went all in on sushi and ordered three rolls: the spicy maki, dragon roll, and creamy spicy tuna. I wanted one each with salmon, shrimp, and tuna, and these did the trick. They run about $15 a roll (eight pieces each), which is pretty standard for downtown or any good sushi spot really. Not massive rolls, but solid quality and satisfying overall. We also split an order of gyoza dumplings, which were delicious and crispy on the outside and packed with flavor. My friend got the teriyaki box, which looked great and seemed like a strong value for around $20. All in all, Friend's Sushi isn't the most mind-blowing sushi I've had, but it's definitely very solid, especially for the location. If you're looking for a chill, quick walk-in spot near the Mag Mile that won't totally break the bank, this place is a great option.

If you are in River North and want sushi, Friends Sushi is the perfect place to go! It's pretty affordable and the staff is so sweet and welcoming. It was hands down the best sushi I've ever had and it was such a clean and cute place. The lemonade there was also so tasty and refreshing! I am extremely disappointed with how my daughter and I were treated today. We placed an $80 carryout order around 3:00 p.m. and picked it up at approximately 3:30 p.m. Because we were short on time but wanted to eat before heading to our next destination, I asked the employee who handed me our food if we could eat at one of the three completely empty outdoor tables. It had been drizzling all day, was hot and humid, and there were no customers outside. There was only one occupied table inside as well. She told us, "Yes." We sat down, opened our food, and my daughter was about to take her first bite when a man came outside and, in a rude and confrontational tone, told us we could not eat there because we had ordered carryout. I explained that we had specifically asked for permission before sitting down and had been told it was okay. His response was simply, "My boss said customers can't eat here with carryout." I asked to speak with the manager, and he told me the boss wasn't there. There was no apology for the misinformation, no attempt to honor what his employee had already approved, and no effort to resolve the situation. Instead, we were made to feel like we had done something wrong. Restaurants are certainly entitled to have a carryout-only policy, but customers deserve consistency and basic respect. If your policy is that carryout orders cannot be eaten on the premises, every employee should know it and communicate it before giving permission, not after a customer has already sat down and opened their meal. After spending $80 and being treated this way in an almost empty restaurant, I can honestly say the customer service was far more memorable than the food, and unfortunately not in a positive way. We won't be returning. read more

A small, narrow restaurant embodying a moody, classy-style sushi bar. Highly recommend getting a reservation, as restaurant has limited seating, and recommend for groups no greater than 6 people! Sushi rolls were delicious! Fish was FRESH, and the flavor combinations of the rolls we tried complimented each other so well! I was a huge fan of the Red Spider and Tiger Eyes Rolls! Overall: Tucked away but shouldn't be overlooked, a great sushi option downtown. The good: Cozy seating, low lighting, and low ceilings make you feel welcome and at home. The staff (and restaurant as a whole) were very accommodating for our 1 year old, who loved the atmosphere and friendly service. They also helped us store our stroller and baby supplies, even with the limited space. The sushi was good with some interesting options that you may not see at other spots. We also enjoy the flavorful mochi bites for dessert. The not-so-good: Not much! There may be higher quality sushi around town, but the prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is great. My husbands favorite sushi spot in Chicago. We are avid sushi goers. There are only a few places that have a comparable fatty salmon nigiri. The seared version i had last night was top 3 ever. Still kind of steep at $7 a piece of nigiri but totally worth it. The yellowtail carpaccio is nobu level good. They have a ceviche type dish that is also great and comes with prawn crackers. It's a modern looking spot, not too many tables but reservations are usually available. Service and cocktails 10/10 read more

So, I was in Chicago craving sushi outside of the loop. So, when I saw this near one of the tea shops I was visiting, I was elated! Food: 4/5 Firstly, the sushi is definitely fresh! So, no questions there, I just wish they had more maki options. The sashimi entree came with a bowl of rice and very tasty. If you just want fish, this is the entree for you. The miso wasn't bad either, very simple. For the price, it was a very nice meal. Service:5/5 The host and server here are so patient and kind. I was definitely jet lagged from my flight, so I was not the most immediate in the review of the menu. They also were super helpful at telling me what options fit into my dietary restrictions. They also suggested tea, which I made sure to enjoy!! All in all, I would definitely go back. The service here was amazing! The host was kind and the server was even better! I ordered the Udon Tempura, which came with a basket of fried vegetables and shrimp. Paired with the warm broth and noodles, it made for a delicious and comforting meal. I also tried the salmon skin roll--it was super crunchy and a bit different, in a good way. Overall, the food here is pretty solid. As you can see the food was so delicious I wasn't able to snag a picture before we had devoured more than half the meal. The karaage was so crispy and chipotle dipping sauce was the perfect combo. The Can You Handle It was amazing, super fresh and full of flavor. Definitely one you need to share because it has 10 pieces. Service was great, seemed like they were trying to force us to order because they kept checking back a little too frequently and once we got the food, we didn't really seem them when we were ready to box up the leftovers and pay. So, I decided I would take me out on a sushi date after a failed attempt at shopping ha! Anyway, Friends Sushi on Rush was a perfect find, especially since I was on foot! This spot is intimately small, cool music, jazzy... I like. It's a whole vibe! I tried to make up my mind, but the options made it hard! I initially ordered the fire wings, but switched at the last minute to 23rd St... My waitress was kind and helpful! She shared the most popular rolls, which did not include 23rd St., but it should! I do recommend -- and I'm grateful for a review I read online that put it on my radar! Ok, so the 23rd St roll arrives and it's like nothing I've ever seen before... topped with sautéed onion, I wasn't sure what to expect. The first bite was nothing short of amazing! Fabulous flavor and yumminess stunned my senses for a moment, this roll was like nothing I've ever tasted! With additional bites, I tried to pause and taste it all. One thought I had was that a small chunk of tuna should be used vs ground tuna, but overall, still delicious and enjoyable! I also ordered the 'ghost of tequila' drink. It's spicy and pretty tasty, more TAJIN please!! I usually eat the peppers in my drinks, but after casually popping a slice from my drink... OMG, my mouth was on FIRE and I was a little tipsy! The burn was intense, but settled down after several gulps of water! HA! So, then I decided I would order another roll. I went with the friends roll. It's pretty good; has a bit of l sweetness. To round it out some, I bit off a small bit of the jalapeño pepper slice from my drink and while it's intensely hot, it balances the sweetness. If you can tolerate spicy, this is a nice pairing! Ordered 3 specialty Maki, sashimi sampler and 2 salads. This was one of the worst sushi I've had. The fish was not fresh, grainy, flavorless and one of the smallest servings I've seen. The salad was large but the sushi and sashimi was done without care. Spicy salmon maki had no spice, the salmon skin roll didn't have much flavor and was grainy, dry and hard, the rainbow roll was tiny, and the sashimi sampler with frozen and defrosted cucumber was not good. With tax and $10 tip (this was take-out) it came to $106 for lunch. I cannot recommend this place. read more

I enjoyed my time at Friends Sushi and would recommend the place. I was traveling on business, and it is very close to the Omni Hotel. Friends was easy to get into for my solo dinner, and it checked all the boxes for food, service, and ambiance. The entrance is a little nondescript, and I had to make sure I was in the right place. Inside, the atmosphere is clean and bright. Service was good and fast. I had two rolls: black shrimp tempura and red spider. Both really good. Fresh and tasty. If you're in the neighborhood, you'll enjoy Friend's Sushi. read more
An intimate, higher quality sushi restaurant in the heart of chicago. I was craving sushi this day and my meets were met at friends sushi. I got the volcano roll and I am glad that I did. Not only was the presentation beautiful, but the sushi was exceptionally delicious. The restaurant is more fit for 2-5 people as the sections are small. It would be very intimate for a first date! The service was okay, nothing outstanding, but we were seated very shortly which was a plus. read more
