Tonkotsu - Pork Chashu and Hokkaido Garlic Miso - Gold

Captivated by the No-Face spirits inside the doorway, I was brought in to a beautifully decorated and affordable ramen spot right by my work. The atmosphere and aesthetics are gorgeous, with fun manga-inspired menus and poultry-centered menu create a feast for your eyes and mouth. I've gone and already come back on days I need some warm soup, and love it every time. I've only been around at slower times so I cannot account for service when times get sticky, but I can definitely say that the staff are accommodating and attentive, without hovering or pushing too much on someone. I've had their gold tier hokkaido garlic miso, as well as their pork chashu ramen, and have enjoyed both thoroughly. I also always get their shrimp crab wontons and could eat a million if you gave me the chance.

Came here with some friends on a cold windy Chicago day and we are glad we did. We arrive around 5pm and were seated right away. We loved the interior design in this restaurant; love the Japanese touch and anime vibe. The menu felt like we were reading a comic book. We order the chicken goyza pizza which was intriguing but it was basic. The chicken was delicious. The highlight of the show was the ramen. The broth was so flavorful, meat was soft and tender, and the noodle was perfectly cooked. Service was great. Definitely recommend trying this ramen place out if you are in the area.

What a fun and cute decor! Love the anime/banzai Japan vibe they went with, from the wall decorations to the comic book menu. Food did not disappoint as well--we had the torikawa(?) dumplings (instead of dough, you get chicken skin), and the Szechuan Tori ramen (gold--with duck breast!) as well as the Hokkaido garlic miso silver. The duck was great and worth the upgrade, I'll have to try diamond for crab next time. Our daughter got the salmon IKURA (salmon roe/egg) don rice bowl, which had everything she loved. Grab a yummy bite if you're in the area!

Wow what a great experience!! We stopped in for an early dinner on Easter Sunday. We had the best server ever. I wish I remembered his name, but we talked about his mom being an ER nurse and he had the most positive attitude. The ambiance of the place is also so cute! The decor is adorable. Now onto the food. We started with chicken dumplings and the crab and shrimp dumplings. The chicken ones were amazing!! I also ordered the pork dumplings as part of my meal. Those were delicious as well. The crab and shrimp ones were a little fishy but still pretty good. I also had the tofu bun, which was so so so good. I can't recommend it enough. My friend got the eel pizza and said it was amazing as well. Crunchy on the outside, beautiful mix of flavors and soft/chewy on the inside. I would definitely try the chicken gyoza pizza one next time. I cannot wait to come back and actually try the Ramen.

Living in the Midwest, you're oft exposed to brittle weather conditions. A comforting bowl of soup is the obvious source of consolation, and the ramen at Birdman Ramen provides you that much needed warmth. We walked in and were quickly seated at a table. We started with the shrimp and crab wontons (not pictured). They were reminiscent of soup dumplings without the copious liquid, but were very delicious. I ordered the Pork Chashu with tofu as an add-on. The broth was very creamy and dense. The perfect remedy for the cold temperatures. If you want a great bowl of ramen, Birdman Ramen should be top of mind.

My friends and I dined at Birdman Ramen on a chilly winter night. We did not have a reservation and just walked in and it was easy to get a table! We ordered chilly garlic edamame, kimchi and tofu bun for appetizers. Chilly Garlic edamame was everyone's favorite, it was delicious! I did not like the tofu as much, I usually prefer crispy tofu for buns but nonetheless my friends liked it. I ordered the vegetarian garlic miso ramen and my friend ordered vegetarian Yakisoba. I liked the ramen, it was hot and piping, loaded with veggies and tofu! Yakisoba was also good as it was loaded with veggies, so good fiber. We all also ordered 2 Sapporo beers and a laughing buddha to complement the food. Overall, a good experience and I might come back.

Ramen!! You guys know I love ramen! My husband and I took some time away for a staycation in Chicago and we passed by this ramen spot early in the morning. I was hoping it wasn't busy due to the Festival of Lights and we made it in just in time. The center of the restaurant is focused on pink orchids . It's absolutely beautiful. The menu is soooo cool. It's made like a comic book and it's easy to read. Our server, Chase, who was also the hostess was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, spices and options available. We started with the chili garlic edamame and kiss kiss!! We devoured them! They were fresh and packed with flavor. I order the garlic haikado ramen with extra garlic. My husband ordered a diamond ramen. Let's just say, once we saw the crab legs....we knew it was going to be amazing! Birdman ramen did not disappoint! I chose to go with the handmade house noodles and they were so fresh and the noodles soaked up the ramen broth without becoming soggy. Phenomenal!! You have to get here fast! What's a winter season without ramen?!?!

Food: amazing taste, good variety for Japanese authentic flavors and westernized items such as fusion pizza Ambience: very cute and instagrammable. Value: casual but nice service, servers are not over the top with you which is appreciated. Great for value!

We were in the mood for ramen on a cold night and Birdman delivered! We were seated right away in a fun dining area decorated with a Shinjuku ramen house vibe. Our server was really friendly and patient with our menu questions. The edamame was perfect and so good with the chili sauce. The ramens we ordered were a magical mixture of flavors and textures. My Hokkaido garlic broth with the thicker chijire men noodles, egg, sliced pork and turkey with freshly grated garlic was served with warm broth-- this is one of the best ramens I've had in Chicago! The fun mini ladle spoon made it fun to slurp up the broth and smaller noodle and meat pieces. Def a keeper.

Food was 9/10 yummy and satisfying. I had the spicy gold level ramen with duck breast and other "birds" in it. Noodles are either sun level or above (IYKYK). My server was Leo ("as you wish) very friendly and a waiter who deserves to be in a Michelin rated restaurant. The atmosphere was peaceful but I came in at 2:30 in the afternoon when it was not crowded.

I was looking for a night time ramen spot not too far from the Loop. Food: 4/5 My husband and I were wandering near the Loop looking for ramen and stumbled into this spot--such a fun surprise! I went with the Soft-Shell Crab ramen bowl (because why not?) while he chose another option at the "Diamond Level." The bowls are definitely packed with food--so much so that I barely noticed mine didn't include the shrimp wontons it listed. Honestly, I was too full to care. The ramen itself isn't going to win "best bowl in Chicago," but it checked the boxes: filling, flavorful, and satisfying without being crazy expensive. Our total came in just at $100 with tip for two ramen bowls and extras. For the location, vibe, and portion size, it felt fair. The vibes: 4:5 This place so kawaii!! Total anime vibes in the best way possible. The decor is adorable, with figures and themed details everywhere, and the menu itself looks like it was pulled straight from a manga. Super cute, super fun, and definitely not your average ramen shop. Service: 4/5 The host/server working both the front and tables was so kind and efficient. She got us seated quickly, explained the menu, and made the whole experience smooth. Our food came out lightning fast--maybe 15 minutes tops--which was perfect since I was starving. Not the absolute best ramen in Chicago, but if you're near the Loop and want a quick, fun, and filling meal in a super cute anime-inspired setting, this is a solid pick. I'd definitely come back for the vibes and convenience alone.

Forgot what this was but it was mushy

I ordered the Gold Ramen, which came with chicken, turkey, and duck. It sounded interesting, but the execution really fell flat. The broth was lukewarm and had a fishy taste that didn't blend well with the rest of the dish. I usually enjoy seafood flavors, but this just felt off and unbalanced. The proteins were also disappointing, basically just one piece of each, and the turkey had a weird, chewy texture. It felt like the ramen had lost its plot. The service didn't help the experience. My friends got there first, and even though the restaurant was almost empty, they were told they'd need to wait ten minutes. When I arrived and asked my friends why there was a wait with so many open tables, our server said "So we can get you a clean table," in a pretty snarky tone. Kind of hard to believe there wasn't one clean table ready when the place was empty. Overall, Birdman Ramen was a miss from start to finish - confusing flavors, odd textures, and service that just made the experience worse.

The decor in here was nice and the dessert and cocktail menus were SO CUTE! I tried the 10 Hour Tonkotsu ramen, the xoxo shrimp and pork dumplings, and the spicy kimchi. The kimchi and dumpling combination was to die for!!! It had the perfect balance of flavor and spice. The dumplings were so crispy and juicy, and the kimchi was packed with lots of flavor. 10000/10 The ramen on the other hand, was just okay in my opinion. I asked if they could make it a bit spicy and the waiter said that the only way to add spicy was to order the sesame chili. I ordered that and mixed it into my ramen but it was still missing something, not quite sure what. I'd rate the ramen a 8/10. Nothing crazy but not bad. Overall would stop by again (if im in the area) to try other items on their menu. 9/10

The Alaskan cod sandwich was served on a bed of cabbage covered in a sweet teriyaki & brown mustard sauce with maybe a squeeze of kewpie sprinkled in between. For the main attraction I ordered the spicy garlic ramen that was such a delightful mouth experience it really hit all the taste buds! The noodles were perfectly bouncy with the right amount of chew. The jellied egg was perfect and rounded the soup very well! The red chili threads enhanced the spicy miso broth just enough to slurp all the delicious goodness down! My husband ordered the Sapporo miso soup which had more of a creamy type of broth vs the spicy garlic. The noodles were also thinner than regular ramen & had a bouncy springy texture that just hit the spot! I was seated at a table and they brought out water right away. But that's where the service stopped. I was handed 3 menus... food, drinks, cocktail. It took forever to get one of the servers to come over and take my order. They were all huddled by the kitchen and hostess stand chatting with each other and on their cell phones. Finally one of them walked by my table and I had to get her attention and told her I would like to order. She brought out the iPad then looked around seeing if someone else should probably take the order. I felt I inconvenienced her. Got the tonkatsu shoyu ramen with black garlic and the takoyaki. Food came out fast. Takoyaki after the ramen but the takoyaki was delicious. Soft and creamy on the inside with the octopus was very tender. It was topped with plenty of katsuoboshi. Ramen was another story. Noodles had a really good chew as they advertised using sun noodle company. However the broth tasted very watered down and did not have the rich flavor and usually fat globules that make the soup. Cha siu was charred beautifully and portion size was good. Hopefully they can focus on the front of house service and the team can pay attention to customers. Maybe this is why there were only 6 customers at prime dinner time.

In no way had my body rested. Donned in dawn, my underwear-pajamas slightly slid down revealed a sad vision of man, sloppily tangled in ruffled sheets. Exposed. There is nothing pretty about me, I thought, as I pondered if the sunlight were judging what it saw. Before reaching my current perch on the living room couch, I sat in bed flicking through news in search of something good, but simultaneously only pausing on the bad. Glorifying in the doom, really. It was the pinch I needed to prove I was indeed awake. All day I seek the pinch of pain to prove I am not dreaming. Coffee, cats, clothes, splashof water, and 20 steps later I find myself in the planning pose, here in the living room. The planning pose is very much like the wake-startle, sans the sheets and exposed crack. It involves me laying here on the couch actually reading the articles I perused earlier. I like to rationalize that the information gleaned is to set me up for a day of human interaction. Perhaps it is a study session to get up to human-social-speed. Right now it is dawning on me -- my second uninvited dawn of the day -- that perhaps behavior isn't responsible humanity, it is prolonged self torment. The tighter pinch. The proverbial purple nurple of challenging my awakened state. Cats gather around me. One at my feet and the other curled beside my thigh. Am I king to them? They are fed. Surely they are not here in need of something. Have I done something to warrant this attention? My affection toward them is inconsistent. It ebbs in startling fits of overly attentive playing or petting followed by long droughts of disregard. My ambivalence as their king gives me this luxury, and supports my theory that they may think I am indeed king. This is the type of cyclical example loop I am using as evidence to propel me from the underwear'ed fat man the sun observed moments ago. Evidence that says: "See, Sun, I am more than the larva you spotlighted. I am a god! The cats are evidence! And they sleep in your sun-puddles in undisputed, recognizable perfection, not the ugly crack-exposed heap you found me in. You love them. They love me. So, pinch yourself, and stop judging me!" Obviously the coffee is working, or maybe the cats are doing their trick: making me feel accepted in the universe. Whatever the case may be, I pet my cat. Dander floats into the sun's beams and crystallizes in the air. If you've ever seen dust in a thinly sliced light beam at dawn you know: Hope is the accidental luck of shadows bouncing off of the chaos but always cutting through. Always meeting a surface. Penetrating the thickest of atmospheres and colliding on flowers and alleys, on well planned solar panels, on potholes, through any crack, on my crack, projecting obtuse triangles, acute bi-angles, and isosceles quad-tangles, even while penetrating deep into the sea, revealing all the magnificent details of art, and occasionally falling on me. Trees bend to it. I give the cat closest a good scratch behind the ear and look out the window at the trees greening in spring. A dog walker pauses to pick up excrement. A squirrel cowers behind a branch. The ramen restaurant on the corner is cut through by light warming empty tables; tables preparing to slurp up hungry, hopeful lunchers into the belly of contentment. Dark, seemingly an antagonist to light's hero demeanor, sheepishly slinks away, humbly realizing it is not the opposite of light, but the absence. "Beautiful," I think as I see the spicy broth of life warming in the sun glow beyond the glass. Yes. It is beautiful. It really is. I couldn't see how much in the dark but the rhythm out the window is now clear. I turn to my cat, who is winding down a purr. We share a slow-blink gaze at one another as the last sliver of dawn is replaced with shadow in my house. He moves to the window sill to soak in every second as it departs. "Welp, buddy. Nothing left now. Time to bend to the light"
