Ever want a little bit of ramen but also a little bit of rice, girl dinner type of meal? Ramen-San definitely covers those bases there. Their menu has a variety of Japanese foods to choose from along with various alcoholic beverages. The noodles are more on the al dente side and their broth is rich. Would love to come back!

I ordered the Maki and Special Ramen and waited more than 20 minutes for our entrées after finishing our appetizers. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The maki wasn't what I expected. The wrap seemed poor quality, and I couldn't taste the salmon--just an odd sour taste. The Special Ramen was far too salty, even for someone like me who usually enjoys salty food. I ate it rather than asking for a replacement because I didn't want to risk waiting another 20 minutes. I've had the same Special Ramen at the Lincoln Square location, and it was much better there. Overall, the long wait and food quality made this a disappointing visit.

kimchi & fried chicken ramen

Came across this place while walking around downtown Chicago. Fortunately, we were able to snag a seat here for dinner! The food is wonderful, and I highly recommend the kimchi and fried chicken ramen. So flavorful it packs a punch. I love the combination it brings out. The space is a bit on the louder end but still great to be there. The workers are kind and are ready to help!

Came to Ramen San on an impromptu date after our original plans fell through, and it ended up being a really good choice. I loved the indoor outdoor feel of the space with the open windows, and they also have a nice outdoor seating area. The atmosphere is casual but cute, with a mix of bar, high top, and bench seating. We tried a few cocktails, which were good, and our server was friendly, patient, and gave great recommendations. But the absolute STAR of the meal was the crab rangoon dumplings. OMG. I already love crab rangoon, but these took it to another level. They were easily my favorite thing we ordered, and I would go back just for those. I'm not usually a big ramen person, but I was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful the ramen was. We ordered a spicy option with fried chicken, and while I wasn't a fan of the fried chicken getting soggy in the broth, the ramen itself was delicious...honestly, the flavors were even better the next day after everything had soaked in. Overall, I really enjoyed it and would definitely come back to try another ramen. But those crab rangoon dumplings? I could go back for those RIGHT NOW.

Karaage Chicken Nuggets, chicken & veggies dumplings, and fried chicken bun

Another great visit to Ramen-San. Although the restaurant was busy, I was able to grab a table immediately, which was a nice surprise. I ordered the karaage chicken nuggets and chicken and veggie dumplings, while my friend ordered the nuggets and fried chicken bun. Everything came out quickly and hot. The chicken nuggets were meaty and flavorful, and the sauce really elevated the dish. The fried dumplings were packed with vegetables and had a great texture. My friend enjoyed her fried chicken bun the most. She loved how soft the bun was and thought the sauce on the sandwich really brought everything together. We did have a little hiccup at the end of our meal. We waited for the bill for a while before flagging down our server, only to find out that the bill was connected to the QR code in the booth. I actually think that's a really cute and convenient concept, but it would be helpful if guests were told about it when they're seated or when the food is delivered. It would definitely save guests from sitting around wondering when their check is coming. Overall, another enjoyable experience at Ramen-San.

The crab rangoons and fried chicken bao buns were really good. Spicy crispy cucumbers were a little too spicy for me but if you love spice good app. I also ordered the fried chicken ramen with egg. The broth wasn't as good as the 10 hour ramen in my opinion. Prob would get a different one next time.

Recently, I finally made my way to Ramen-San in river north, which had been on my list for a while. It's a very casual spot and honestly, it's a great place to bring someone on a new date. My friend and I decided to grab ramen on a rainy day, and despite not having reservations and the restaurant being quite busy, we were surprisingly seated pretty quickly. I ordered the TanTan-San and added Chicken Chashu and I wish I didn't. I did not enjoy the chicken at all, it had a very slimy texture. I also substituted the regular noodles for the gluten free noodle (+$1). Overall, the meal was just okay. The server was attentive at first and after our food was delivered we never saw him. He never came back to check in on us or anything. My ramen overall was pretty good, had a ton of veggies and flavor with a bit of kick which I always enjoy. I personally think there are better ramen spots in chicago, unfortunately, this was not it for me.

A lunchtime steal. How can you beat a four course meal under $20?! The miso salmon was the star of the show, super flavorful and it literally melted in my mouth. The ramen was good but I thought it would be better given that it is a ramen restaurant. It was honestly bland to me but more flavorful once I added ramen pepper, chili flakes, and chili oil. But the ramen egg was the best egg my boyfriend has ever had‍ The edamame hummus was a fun appetizer, very creative and tasty. The salad was your typical Japanese salad with sesame dressing. Would I recommend this for a ramen restaurant? Not quite Would I come back to try more of their menu/express lunch deal? Absolutely

Nice vibes and atmosphere, but the ramen itself was very disappointing. The noodles weren't great, the broth was just ok. The sliced pork was pretty good, but not enough to make up for the rest of the dish. I really wanted to like this place but it does not live up the hype.

I just love me some ramen! And this place is always a hit and doesn't disappoint. I wish there was a bigger menu BUT what i have had is still great options. My boyfriend and I tried their lunch box and it's an amazing deal. Our waitress was a sweetheart as well.

We hit up Ramen-San after spending the evening at Aire Ancient Bath because it was one of the few places still open that late. The place was packed which is always a good sign! The vibe was definitely kitschy in the best way with the 90's bangers playing. The service was quick and efficient, and our server was great at recommending things. We had the xoxo pork and shrimp dumplings, late night fried rice, and the specialty ramen and they were all so good! 10/10 recommend!

Fried chicken bao: 5/10 tastes like a wendy's chicken sandwich Tofu Bao: 7/10 the sauce has a kick to it! delicious! Ambiance: I like the vibe, they have the world cup playing & hip hop music playing in the background; really good vibes for late night munchies. the lighting is moody Tonkotsu Ramen: 6/10 Our server was amazing! I didn't catch his name but he made the experience worthwhile

Came here for vegetarian ramen. It was pretty good with a flavorful broth. Prices were higher than the quality would indicate, but this is downtown Chicago. Overall, I would come back if I was staying in the area and wanted ramen.

Kimchi & Fried Chicken Ramen--crispy karaage, spicy kimchi, buttery corn, and a broth worth every last sip.

This is a unique ramen spot that specializes in beef-ramen! You don't find many spots like that,…read moresince many ramen shops tend to have pork broth or char siu (pork). We didn't come in with a reservation, but were seated very quickly (within 10 mins) at the bar. It was very cool to be able to watch the chefs cook up your ramen while you were seated! It has a fairly dark and intimate dining area, making it a great place for a date night. The Shoyu Plus had a unique depth to its broth, with delicious flavors within each bite. Something that I noticed was that it had a lighter broth compared to your traditional tonkotsu (pork broth) ramen. The Miso Wagyu is a smaller version of the Monster Ramen (their specialty). This was a decent size with again, lots of flavor. The broth was a little thicker (not too thick, but due to the miso). But it was just as good as the Shoyu Plus. If I had to choose between the two, I really liked the Shoyu Plus. But if it's your first time, try their speciality! Good depth in their broths, and an amazing place for those who cannot eat pork to still enjoy ramen here

I was skeptical when I first heard the name Monster Ramen. All my previous personal experiences…read morehave always proven to me that restaurants with names that don't represent their culture in distinct ways are generally subpar. For example, I would usually never even think to step into a restaurant named Best China House, Sushi Bistro, or Mom's Korean Restaurant. (Apologies if your shops are named as such. These were meant to be generic examples) Oh, how times have changed. I would have never thought having a bowl of ramen at a Monster Ramen would give me this much pleasure. Part of it will (in fact, most of it) be on me and my general philosophy on fusion cuisine and outdated gemerational gap. There was definitely a time when avoiding agorementioned type of restaurants may have been deemed smart. But I feel the new generation of restaurant owners and chefs have up'd their games in not only at better food making, but also accepting of a bit more irony. Anyone who knows me knows how much I stay away from trying anything "fusion." It's kinda funny to myself how hypocritical it is that I would be totally okay in substituting an ingredient or two when I'm missing some when cooking, but when it comes to paying money to sit and eat that I would judge chefs by thier style of cooking. Yes, a big part of it is based on a large pool of personally gathered data, but I do acknowledge that I need to open myself up a bit more. Case in point. I was recommended MR by a fellow Yelper and I decided to give it a whirl. I happened to have a friend and his son with me, so I was able to do small tastings of 3 different ramen. And boy, was I pleasantly surprised. We collectively had bowls of shio, shoyu and miso specials. Plus, I ended up getting the Summer Special bowl to go for my wife. All of them had their individual charm to them but more importantly, each of them were made to perfection when it came to broth seasoning and noodle texture, which are THE two most important aspect of ramen, in my opionion. Not too salty nor bland soup. Perfectly dense noodles. I just loved all four! It wad when I tasted the yuzu in tgeir shio ramen that my wife would love it. Even though I brought her the spicy Sunmer version home, I still think it'll be worth bringing her and our daughter back when we get a chance to. Our server Dionne (I think) was most pleasant and helpful. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, too. It helped that I came before the dinner rush, although, I can also see more lively vibe being nice as well. Will be back with the fam definitely!
