Just eh. I am not sure what I expected from this place but this is definitely fast food ramen. To start the restaurant itself is pretty small. Ordering at the counter and finding your own seat. One thing I found very odd even while eating was the speaker the cashier uses when taking orders. There's plexiglass between you and the cashier but it's still easy to hear one another. However they use the speaker for every order which you can hear theoughout the small space. Very unnecessary. We ordered the tonkatsu-spicy and chicken-medium ramen as well at the chicken karaage. When our ramens came out we noticed we were missing boiled eggs which we had to go ask for. Looking back on the menu and pictures we were also missing bamboo shoots. The ramen spice levels were good, however once you get past the spice, the broth is bland and very watered down. I was not a fan of the chicken in mine because of how fatty and chewy it was. I was told the pork in the tonkatsu was great. The chicken karaage had a great flavor in the breading but it was the same issue with the chicken and was just too chewy. Quick ramen spot if you're just hungry but I wouldn't call this an ideal hangout. Also a little pricey for the quality of products they're offering. read more

Ramen 101 - Tonkotsu Ramen, Chicken Ramen (forgotten egg and bamboo shoots) - Hawaiian Near Me - Milpitas, California

Came here after hanging out the parks and our group wanted something quick for a late lunch, and this place was surprisingly better than we expected. It's located in a big plaza with plenty of parking, and it's a quick service place where you order and find your own seat. There's a decent amount of seating and we didn't have any trouble getting a seat for a party of 4. Our group ordered the black garlic ramen and the Hawaiian meat combo and both came out pretty quickly even though it was made fresh after we ordered. The portion size is pretty big and the flavors were also good. Overall I'd come back again for a quick and easy meal if you're on the go! read more

The food is ok and the service is fast however the atmosphere is quite quiet for a restaurant I got there early and sampled it's shrimp.tempura and miss ramen Both are incredibly nice to go with water read more

Self service and so no much to talk about. Tables and seatings are good enough. Chickens- I suggest to precook before deep fry or barbecue. Chicken smells like fresh meat because they are fried in high heat just for a short time. The same thing is true with barbecue- teriyaki and Hawaii. Not too many at lunch time on weekends. This means something. Need to upgrade your food quality. read more

Located in a plaza near Best Buy and other restaurants! Plenty of parking so no need to fight for one! Went here on a rainy day and was craving ramen but they also serve Hawaiian food too! My partner and I got the tonkotsu ramen and BBQ+chicken katsu plate. The portions were huge for the BBQ chicken + katsu plate and will definitely fill you up! The macaroni salad was delicious and not too sweet which I loved. I would come here for the Hawaiian if I want a filling lunch. As for the tonkotsu ramen, it was okay as the broth was not flavorful even with maximum spicy level added to it. The noodles also tasted they were not cooked thoroughly too. I'm not sure how the other ramen will taste like so please keep that in mind! read more

Ramen and Hawaiian food - get two great cuisines in one place. My recommendations would be to come for the Hawaiian food though. The place itself is in a large plaza so there is plenty of parking. It's not very large and has a few tables (around 6 or so). You first order at the front, they'll assign you a table if you're dining in, and then they'll bring the food out to you. You don't have to bus the table yourself as they'll clean up once you're done. Since they have both ramen and Hawaiian food here, I decided to try both just to see how things taste. I got the tonkotsu ramen (mild spice), the lumpia appetizer, and the mini chicken katsu plate. Food did not take very long to come out and they will give you free water cups to drink. The lumpia was pretty lackluster - it didn't look or taste homemade. They were alright and I would probably pass next time as I've definitely had fresher and homemade lumpia at other spots. The tonkotsu ramen was also just average. I wouldn't say this is a place that I would eat ramen at. The noodle texture was just average and the broth lacked flavor. For mild spice, I was a little surprised with how much spice they added. The pieces of chashu were also average. Okay, now for the only reason I'd return. The mini chicken katsu plate is a lot of food for being advertised as a "mini" size. This definitely could fill one person up and it being less than $10 is a steal. You can't make substitutions to the sides, but hey, everyone likes a side of rice and macaroni salad. They also give veggies underneath the katsu which is a nice way to balance the meal. The veggies are steamed and I was a little disappointed they were unseasoned. The katsu sauce also is your traditional katsu sauce but more watered down it seems. However, for the price and the portion size, I'd say coming here for Hawaiian food is not so bad. Service was friendly - no complaints here. read more

I really wanted to love this place, especially because the service was super friendly and the black garlic ramen smelled intoxicatingly good on my way home. But the meal ended up being just ok...I guess I should have lowered my Ramen-Nagi-black-garlic-ramen-loving expectations when my to-go order only took 5 min (!) to prepare. The best part about the ramen was their charshu. The pork had a great meat to fat ratio and it was deliciously tender. Very impressive. The broth, while smelling fantastic (gave me to major rotisserie chicken vibes), was rather bland and could have used a ton more black garlic oil to live up to its name. And while there were plenty of noodles, they didn't have the beloved texture of quality, freshly made noodles. At least to me. They seem to get really good reviews for their Hawaiian BBQ, so I might try that at some point. But as far as Ramen goes, I'll stick to my usual places. read more

Ramen 101 - Black Garlic Ramen before adding the broth - Hawaiian Near Me - Milpitas, California

A hankering for ramen led us to this place and it did not disappoint. I got the extra spicy chicken ramen. The broth was full flavored and it was not really spicy. The spice came more as an after effect due to a tingling from the sichuan peppers. The chicken in the ramen was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. The noodles were chewy as they ought to be. We also got a chicken rice bowl and this seriously took us by surprise as the chicken was perfectly cooked and it was surprisingly not sweet as most chicken teriyaki bowls are. The chicken karaage was great as well, it was soft on the inside and crispy outside without being overwhelming extra crispy. It was almost perfection redefined. The veggie tempura were bland(maybe as veggie tempura should be?). read more

I've gone to this place a few times. The ramen is pretty good. I usually get the black garlic ramen and my fiancé usually gets the chicken ramen. He can't have pork, so we really appreciate that this restaurant has a chicken ramen! Both ramens are quite flavorful. We always get the "spicy" (3rd highest) level of spice. The "spicy" level is not too spicy, it is the right amount of spice for us. It's nowhere near the "thai level" of spice, so you don't have to worry about it being uncomfortable. We noticed that the menu on the table in front of the cash register had spice levels higher than the "spicy". So if you love spice, you can try to opt for the "extra spicy". Moving onto the food, the black garlic ramen had a strong but not overbearingly strong flavor of garlic. It also had plenty of roasted garlic cloves if you're into that. The chicken in the chicken ramen was well seasoned and has an asian bbq type of flavor. The chicken takes on the flavor of the soup really well. The ramen came out pretty fast too! We got our food about 5 minutes after we ordered. I assume this is because they keep all of the components of the ramen chilled so all they really have to do is put them inside of a hot bowl of broth. When we got our food, I noticed some parts of the ramen were a little cold like the pork. This was no big deal, I just pushed them further into the broth so they could heat up. Overall, this place is pretty decent and I would eat it again. read more

FLAVOR (5/5): So many options and everything on the menu was delicious! The ramen is a huge portion with a flavorful soup. The unagi Don was a thick cut of eel with sweet sauce! The ribs and chicken Katsu, I loved the Mac salad that came with the plates. Don't sleep on the eggrolls too! INSTAGRAM WORTHY (5/5): The inside of the restaurant is actually really modern! The food itself too was displayed really well and just looked so appetizing! SERVICE (5/5): The owner herself helped us out and she was so nice! Food was brought out to us promptly and they even checked in on us! Everything customer satisfaction wise was checked off! TAKEAWAYS: Really a hidden gem in Milpitas. Felt a little adventurous today and decided to eat at a place that my dad and I haven't been to in our area. Today's adventurous decision to eat here at Ramen 101 turned into such a great idea! We went here for late lunch, around 3pm. I appreciate this restaurant for still keeping some of their safe practices from COVID-19 (the table to space out the cashier & the customer and the clear plastic shield) If you are planning to dine in, you order at the counter first then find a seat. They do have an ample amount of seating, so there wouldn't be a need for reservations. One thing to note is that there is only one cashier, so if they get busy and it's taking awhile, you already know why. I have no clue what their busy hours are / what they look like, but I would say the wait is definitely worth it! My dad and I ordered the takoyaki, tonkotsu ramen (mild spice level), and black garlic ramen (medium spice level). Both broth's were surprisingly REALLY GOOD. My dad and I finished both our bowls to EMPTY. The black garlic ramen was my dad's and it was more of my favorite because you can really taste the garlic in the broth and it's not overpowering either. It has the perfect balance! Most places that I've tried black garlic ramen either give it as a paste or the garlic taste isn't as noticeable in the flavor...and so this one really wowed my Dad and I. The noodles were good, the meat wasn't the softest, but it was still flavorful and the egg, although it wasn't runny, was really good and not dry like some ramen places. The egg is also a whole egg cut in two! Some places usually just give you one half of it. Both ramens were a 10/10 for us! If you like garlic, go for the black garlic ramen! You won't be disappointed. The food proportion is also perfect, we were full and satisfied. The appetizer that we shared was the takoyaki and it was really good as well! No complaints about it really...I like more sauce on mine, but that's just personal preference. My dad enjoyed it and said he would order it again. Additionally, their staff is friendly, but also quiet...maybe it was because we were one of two customer groups that were dining in during their slow hours, but they were attentive and the food also came out pretty quick! The drinks are mainly self serve with their soda machine, so overall it was a great experience and the place was very clean! I love the mural that they had on their wall too! If you are looking for a ramen spot that isn't too expensive and has really great quality broth, this is the spot to visit! I definitely want to try their rice plates next and more items from their appetizer menu. I also want to try how their quality holds when it's a to-go order. I'll definitely be back and will bring more friends and family! You should come and try it! read more

A casual dining spot that is great for a quick bite. Orders are placed in the front and it is free seating in the restaurant. I was so excited to get ramen since we are at a weeklong training. The ramen came hot and well-packaged. Sadly our order was not correct and the additional items we paid for were missing. Ramen 101 is a local chain with a few locations spread out through the Bay Area / Nor Cal region. The Milpitas location opened in the middle of the Pandemic, somewhere in 2020... kudos to any business that is bold enough to begin operating during one of the most challenging times. I paid the Milpitas location a visit in the midst of the pandemic...2021 for you. With SIP protocols in place the restaurant was only doing outdoor seating and orders to go. Food to go: ~ Unagi Rice - 3/5 This one was fairly underwhelming. One can find much better Unagi dishes at other Japanese / Sushi restaurants. The Unagi was a bit rubbery and the portions were on the smaller side. I'll skip this the next time. ~ Grilled Whole Squid - 4.5/5 Brilliant! Actually looks just like the pictures. IMHO - Covid Edition Wowza, wowza, wowza!!! Happened to see this place as we drove around McCarthy Ranch and decided to check out their menu taped to the windows. (We were there at 10:35 and they open at 11.) Stuff looked good! We went shopping and then went back shortly after 11. You can tell this place is new (4 or 5 months old, and number 10 in the franchise.) Restaurant is clean, bright and welcoming. You order and pay at the front counter behind plexiglass partitions. There are maybe 4-5 tables inside to dine, but I think most people take to-go. We saw a steady line of people picking up to take-out. As the name states Ramen 101 serves 8 different types of ramen; tonkatsu, miso, shoyu, pork ribs, seafood, black garlic, chicken, and vegetable, $13-14.50. You can add on a large variety of ramen toppings for an additional $1 - 4.50) The reason why we came in was to eat their Hawaiian BBQ, which includes 2 scoops of steamed rice, 1 scoop of macaroni salad, & vegetables, and your choice of BBQ. We opted for the Kalbi short rib Hawaiian BBQ plate ($14), and a starter order of Chicken Karaage ($8), and 7 pieces of Gyoza ($5). Maggie, our amiable cashier and server was fantastic. She quickly brought us two tall glasses of ice water and utensils to the table. Shortly thereafter our hot food was delivered. I can't tell you how satisfying and delicious this food was! I was very impressed with the moistness of the chicken kaarage and the crispy exterior. The kalbi short ribs were shiny and glistening, tender and yummy! Absolutely everything was super tasty and flavorful!!! We will definitely come back!!! read more

We were craving Hawaiian BBQ and saw Ramen 101 had both Japanese and Hawaiian BBQ so we had to try it! We went there to order in person and got our food within about 10 minutes. The packaging was great since our food was still warm even after sitting on the counter for an hour. We just had to air fry the lumpia & crab rangoons. They were generous with the sauces. For a place that looks like a fast food chain, their food was surprisingly fresh! Lumpia: These were really good with a perfect amount of filling. The meat inside was soft. Crab Rangoons: These were fresh but not as tasty as the lumpia. We wouldn't get them again. Unagi Bowl: There was a good amount of unagi for $8 but what was more mind blowing was the taste. It was actually soft, fresh, delicious, & didn't have the "seafood/slimy taste or smell"! This definitely won us over and will have us coming back. Hawaiian BBQ Mix: The white rice was good & not dry. The macaroni salad was my favorite, I wish there was more! It wasn't heavy and the taste was addicting :) The BBQ chicken portion was huge, fresh, & not dry. The BBQ beef was also just as impressive. They were both so good but didn't taste fatty/oily. We didn't feel like we had a heart attack after eating them. The only disappointment was the kalbi short rib which was chewy, fatty, & didn't taste good/fresh. read more

Ramen 101 is definitely one of my fav places to go to get food Hawaiian food. I'm so happy this location opened so I don't have to drive far to get my fix. They are essentially a ramen spot however they do make Hawaiian food and they have lots of yumminess on the menu. They have a selection of rice bowls, crab rangoons, chicken karaage, ramen with a wide selection of toppings. I have had their chicken katsu which comes with Mac salad and rice, the chicken was cooked perfectly and juicy while the outside is crispy. The mac salad is very good and the rice is standard. The Hawaiian BBQ Beef is really good as well, marinated nicely and tender not chewy. I have tried the gyoza and crab rangoons and they're both really good. I've yet to have a bad meal here and I don't anticipate that I will. I will be trying more of the items on the menu and eventually I will try the ramen for the first time lol. This location is fairly new and the inside seems to be really clean, the staff is really nice and the food is wonderful. read more

Price for Portion and flavor is on point This is my Go to for Hawaiian BBQ plate. Ramen is also good, my fav is the spicy tonkatsu ramen.

I got the BBQ chicken and chicken Katsura delivered through GH. I couldn't believe it when I picked up the box, it weighed like 5 pounds...which I assumed was all rice...wrong, it was a TON of chicken. Seriously, I could have gotten 3 meals out of one order. The food is good: the BBQ chicken doesn't have a ton of flavor, but is well cooked and super tender, the chicken katsu was really good well breaded and still moist, the rice was rice but nothing was wrong with it. I don't eat Mac salad, so I don't know how that was. Overall, insane value, and good food. I would definitely go here again. read more

Grand Opening promotion 20% off ALL orders until January 28. I ordered online and went in for pick-up which went smoothly. The customer service is super friendly and accomodating! Spent a little under $20. [Black Garlic Ramen (medium spicy, + $1 boiled egg)]: Wasn't spicy at all. The broth wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either. Didn't have any taste of garlic and the fried garlic cloves didn't have an essence of garlic either which was odd. The cloves tasted like a slighty harder boiled potato (take that as a good or bad thing) but no flavor unfortunately. The noodles had a great texture and the pork and soft boiled egg were good though. Overall it was alright, I'd say pass on getting this ramen off the menu. [Mini BBQ Chicken]: I feel like they may have forgotten to add a sauce with this to my order because it was just missing flavor. The chicken was tender and moist, but it also just tasted like they pan fried the chicken thigh and called it a day. My mac salad was room temperature when I initially tried it but after refrigeraging it was solid! Overall just okay, wouldn't get again and wouldn't recommend. Curious to try their other items off the menu, but won't be going out of my way for this place. The establishment is super clean and nice inside too! read more

There's plenty of items on the menu to get lost in and can be difficult to decide, however at the front of the counter they have printed menus with images of the dish you want. With the weather getting colder I wanted something warmer and with this place being called Ramen 101, that's exactly what I got. Specifically the Black Garlic Ramen. Along with sides such as lumpia and crab Rangoon. To my surprise after we ordered, we waited probably less than 10 minutes for all our dishes to be done. Talk about fast service! The lumpia's were made well and crispy, not burnt or soggy like some other places. As for their Rangoon's, I didn't get a chance to taste one, however my girlfriend liked that they don't skimp out on the filling for their rangoons. As for the Black Garlic Ramen, I was very excited to enjoy the broth and noodles along with some pork. Unfortunately the broth had little to none garlic flavor as it also seems that to compensate for the watered down broth, they add 2 egg halves and more pork (Which were my favorite parts of the ramen) Maybe it was just the dish I ordered or the timing it was made; will hopefully be back next time and grab something with a bit more flavor in their broth. read more

Discovered this newly opened restaurant on Yelp and they had a 20% discount for their opening. 1. BBQ mix A large serving of Hawaiian style meats - marinated chicken, beef and beef rib. The meats were good, and we enjoyed the beef short rib the most as it was tender and tasty. 2. Chicken Karaage This was surprisingly good. While it doesn't taste like the conventional Japanese chicken karaage (we felt it tasted closer to Taiwanese fried chicken), it was still tasty and crispy even after the 15min drive home. There was a small cut out hole on the lid, which allowed the steam to escape and keep the chicken crispy. 3. Crab rangoons We didn't like this. Will not recommend. Too bad the promo was only for a week or so in Jan, because we can definitely see ourselves going back for more beef Kalbi short ribs. I might even try the ramen once dining in is possible. read more

Craving something warm on this cold, dreary day and happened to find this new ramen place. I've been reluctant to order ramen during the pandemic because take-out just doesn't taste the same. However, the soft opening discount was enough to overcome my reservations. I ordered online and the pick-up process was simple and straightforward. - Tonkotsu (medium spicy) & Miso Ramen (non-spicy): Instantly regret not getting "spicy" or "extra spicy" because medium spicy did not taste spicy at all. The broth was decent though. - Seafood Mix: A filling entree with a mix of fried fish, fried shrimp, and chicken. Again, the food is good but not amazing. - Chicken Karaage: Somewhat disappointed by the lack of flavor but the side of spicy mayo was tasty - Takoyaki: Somewhat disappointed by their size Overall, a solid and fulfilling meal, but nothing in particular stands out. Personally, I think I'll try to hold off getting more ramen until in-person dining is back . read more

I found this place in an online search of hot new businesses. I didn't realize it was a chain at first, but was delighted when I saw they have some of my favorite foods all in one place (especially hawaiian), and best of all they are so close to where I live. On this visit, I just ordered a side of lumpia, because we were at a nearby store and just wanted a snack. The food was cooked perfectly, not soggy or oily, and met my expectations. I was also really happy with the service. Our server, Daniel, was friendly and professional, and even informed us of a Grand Opening promotion that was ending today (BOGO ramen), which I appreciated even if we weren't interested during this visit. He also offered to bring our order out to the car when it was ready, which was cool. It's because of great service like this, that I will be returning to this establishment... and to try the hawaiian food of course :P Thanks to Daniel for providing an awesome experience! Came here after Christmas shopping and the place only had a few people. The process here is to order your food at the front counter and then find a table after. We both ordered the Black Garlic Ramen as many yelpers gave high reviews. Right after we sat down, the ramen came immediately out. First impression, looks like a good bowl of ramen. However it was just ok tasting. The flavors did not give a umami taste. I was hoping to love this place, but it fell flat. read more

A solid place for Hawaiian food that leans more towards Japanese style. So far i've had the veggie tempura, whole grilled squid, spam musubi, chicken katsu meal, and bbq beef meal. Veggie tempura (4.5/5) - i've gotten this 3 different times and every time it's good whether I've eaten it right when it came out, right after i got home, or after it's been sitting there for a good half hour before i get to it--even the carrot tastes good lol. The only thing that would make this better is if they added a sweet potato into the mix. Grilled squid (4/5) - its good, nice and thicc squid, but could be better--even though there was a char on the outside of the squid it tasted a little undercooked, most likely because there's a fine line between squid being done and squid becoming rubbery so the logic was probably 'let's just undercook it a little to be safe'. Spam musubi (3.5/5) - a pretty standard, average spam musubi. Chicken katsu (5/5) - lots of meat and they don't skimp on the mac salad. Gave lots of dipping sauce at no extra cost which was nice. Meat was tender and crust stuck to the cutlet properly. Bbq beef (4.5/5) - when they say bbq beef they mean beef yakiniku, not Hawaiian style bbq beef. The meat was nice and tender and had some cartilage, but the amount they give offsets the cartilage parts. Rice/mac salad: meat ratio was slightly off--compared to the chicken katsu this one has less of the sides. For both meals, the veggie portion was straight up broccoli on a bed of shredded cabbage. Will have to come back to try the ramen and takoyaki! read more

I have been looking for the best ramen in San Jose area. Then, I came across at this ramen place in Ranch Drive, Milpitas. 1st time to try this place. Ordered their Tonkotsu Ramen. 3 things I noticed, the eggs are not perfectly cooked, the pork toppings aren't appetizing, and the soup lacks flavor. I expect so much from this place since a lot of people have said nice things about their ramen. Now that I have tried myself, I would say, they need to add more flavor to their soup. My wife enjoyed her Tonkotsu Ramen, my son devoured his Spicy Black Garlic Ramen and I slurped-down my Black Garlic Ramen. We also ordered Spam Musubi's too. There's nothing better to warm the soul, than a hot bowl of ramen. I'm not a huge fan of their Spam Mush I'd however. They are good-sized, but lack the Teriyaki flavor I'm accustomed to. You wouldn't normally expect ramen and Hawaiian BBQ to be sold at the same place! I ordered their BBQ mix and chicken katsu to go and food was ready in 5 minutes. The quality of the food was definitely much better than what you'd get in a Hawaiian fast food chain and the flavors were good.
