Do not bother going to an actual cashier (and instead choose self check out) because chances are, she will be rude to you and make snide comments judging you for what groceries/food items you choose to buy with your own money. My experience with this place has been sub par when it's come to dealing with those who work here. One cashier in particular, commented about how "it was so so sad" that I was buying a low calorie food item and proceeded to rant about how "ice cream is unhealthy whether or not it's supposed to be a healthy version of ice cream," while eating some slices of cake at her register. Why yes, I am quite well aware of that. Working in the medical field, I am very familiar with what is healthy/unhealthy for the human body. In fact, I was not buying any ice cream during this grocery run, thus this comment was clearly meant as an insult to my food choices. Little did she know that I bought the low calorie food item due to its low sugar content for my child who is diabetic. Her comments were incredibly rude, judgemental, and completely unnecessary. Javier, the site manager I believe, and there was another woman who I didn't even realize was an employee because she wasn't visibly wearing a uniform and was just standing around eating a banana. This review is for the Starbucks barista inside of Ralph's named Karina. She was friendly and helpful. She just made me a Venti Cafe Espresso Frap with espresso whip on top. Was asking for a Mocha Frap but they just ran out of the mocha flavor. She kindly suggested the Cafe Espresso and it is YUMMILICIOUS!!! I've been to many Ralph's since I could ever remember, and they never disappoint! Always amazing deals and great selection! I recently got $5.99/lb of fresh salmon...what a steal! And how about the constant "sales price" for yogurt! 88 cents?! 10/$10! New Year's Resolution come true?! This grocery store might just blow you away. Last year they did a huge renovation so the whole place is practically brand new. It's the largest Ralph's I've seen and has two self-checkout sections, a bar, pharmacy, entire kosher section, seating area, starbucks, and more. You may feel lost at first because of the size but you will certainly find everything you're looking for. I don't have much interaction with the workers, because I always use self-checkout, but when I need help they're friendly. I suggest coming here to satisfy all of your grocery needs, but if it somehow doesn't there's always a Trader Joe's next door and Whole Foods across the street! read more

Plus, they have a pretty nicely established rewards system. My favorite is buying Gift Cards when you get 4x the points per dollar. Ah, I wish that was always going on. Essentially, with 5% back on Groceries with my AmEx Blue Cash, and 4% back during promo times, I'm saving 9% on all my purchases by buying gift cards and using them on Ebay, Amazon, Southwest, H&M, etc. HELLO SAVINGS. The Deli is amazing, they will slice meats and cheeses for you from far away places and the hot food is always piping hot and yummy. Lanes lanes lanes galore...never a shortage of personnel. One of the most underrated grocery stores in the history of grocery stores. As a majority of Ralphs stores, this place is open 24/7. This is unbelievably convenient for students like myself who are busy during the day and are in dire need of groceries late night. I cannot count the times my housemates and I were looking for a quick bite late at night and came here to grab the right ingredients to make a quick meal or some chips/drinks to fill our empty stomachs. I love this place over the Vons, Whole foods, and Bristol Farms in this area because it's way cheaper, it is a much larger store (which means more food options) and has a ton of cashiers so you never have to wait too long in line to check out. (and if it doesn't have what you want, just hop on over to the Trader Joe's next door) Being the closest grocery store to UCSD, this Ralphs is often flooded with college students. It's usually not a problem, but the parking lot is the bane of my existence. This poor Ralphs is located inside literally the worst parking lot in the entire world. Cars are backed-up most of the time because of the two-way streets that fit only one car and confusing one way streets. It's a huge struggle most of the time but that doesn't stop me from shopping here. This store has a Starbucks, Golden Spoon, Wells Fargo, dry cleaners, Postal Annex, and even a study/hang out area. It's relatively easy to find what you need using the signs, but sometimes there's items placed in weird areas that make it frustrating. Because this grocery store is so large, you'll find yourself walking back and forth because the dairy and cheese are located on exact opposite sides of the store. As you should with all your groceries, make sure you check the quality of the item when you buy it! I've shopped here for years and I'm trying to draw some attention to how badly they've gone downhill. This 2-star rating is based on the following components of service: Management: 1 star. The cashiers and other employees are very nice but there aren't enough of them. The lines are usually between bad and horrible these days. Today, once again, only 2 of the 8 check-out stands are open. (If you give me a discount to use the self-serve kiosks I might consider it, but until then your employees can ring my stuff up for me. Take a tip from Trader Joe's next door. I almost never need to wait in line there, which makes me choose to go there for anything they carry. Organization: 2 stars. It's better than it was when the remodel was at its worst, but lots of room for improvement. Why are two different sizes of walnut packages displayed 50 yards and 10 aisles away from each other? Organic Choices: 3 stars. This has gotten so much better. Unfortunately I still need to bring reading glasses to check ingredients because Ralphs still sell lots of stuff that nobody should be eating, which isn't so true of Trader Joe's. Selection: 4 stars. Nobody has the range of options Ralphs does (mostly due to the large store format), but it's still a pisser when they drop SKUs (UltraBrite toothpaste, Oregon spicy chai latte) that make us go elsewhere for those items. My experience in the past has been nothing but positive. The staff is generally friendly, proactively helpful, and knowledgeable with stocked items, especially during all of the renovations. I do have to address an incident I witnessed at the deli/sandwich making area, where a staff member was visibly rude and condescending to an international student. The student was asking if there were still breakfast items available, but could not describe exactly what he wanted. The staff member was rude, impatient, rolling her eyes. There was no line, so there was no reason to hurry a customer, especially with someone struggling to speak English. However, this place should have a special spot light put on it so people don't look it over as your typical "neighborhood grocery store." OK, maybe it is, and maybe you're turned off by how huge and corporate Ralph's may be. But use this to its advantage, as the selection is huge and it can function 24/7. That's right, you probably found this place on Yelp because: A) you live near here B) you went to UCSD as I did years ago and this was one of the only places to shop C)you're just use to the Ralph's name D)it's 3AM and you're trying to find beer for your kegger, or pickles for your expecting mother,or work night shift as a nurse, or procrastinated your potluck cooking, or...you get the point Being open all the time (minus Christmas and New Years at times) is important, and despite it being open all the time the majority of the store stays well stocked and clean, discounting the sitting area and restrooms (but what grocery store restrooms are immaculate?). The staff there tend to be very friendly, and the place offers a whole bunch of amenities that you can read off of others reviews. So why only 4 stars? I'd have to ask back, "do you really need a Starbucks inside instead of waiting 5 minutes at the register and then walking next door?" Also, as mentioned earlier the sitting room and bathrooms often need some TLC. The center it belongs to is great, but unfortunately if you consider Trader Joes is in the same complex and often provides exclusively better and/or more sustainable products in a So-Cal neighborhood, it's hard to say that this Ralph's wins the grocery store battle in the neighborhood by a landslide. read more

This Ralph's has a fancy schmancy feel to it. They carry a wide variety of almost every food, baked goods, beverage, and pharmacy item. The best section in my opinion is their beach/picnic section that's located near the flowers. The section has much to offer, from chairs, towels, plates, cups, fans, candy, toys, etc. and it's often based on a theme or color scheme. There staff is always friendly and helpful. The parking and the fact that boxes of stock have been in the aisles a few times, obstructing my reach for items, has lowered my rating from 5 to 4 stars. read more

A+ grocery store. Ralph's is located in the La Jolla Village Square shopping center. The store is spotless and the staff members are polite, friendly, and very helpful! This location has EVERYTHING. Deli counter, sushi bar, Golden Spoon (frozen yogurt), pharmacy, Wells Fargo branch, Postal Annex, dry cleaner, Starbucks, Kosher aisles, salad bar, prepared food to-go, and more. The things I especially like about this Ralph's location is that the store is a one-stop-shop. I can pick up groceries, lunch, drop of dry cleaning etc. The produce selection is wonderful. They always have many varietals of fruit in stock, and it is so fresh and delicious! There are also many organic options for fruit and veggies if you are into that. I have been coming to this Ralphs for a few months now. I had originally been apprehensive as the whole plaza is a cluster** trying to drive around and park. Who puts two grocery stores right next to each other?? ....but, if you find a spot and go inside, you will thank yourself. This store is the largest of all of the Ralphs and has everything. I often get sent to pick up cold cuts and end up coming home with a weeks worth of groceries. The staff in every department is very professional and treats me like a loyal customer. I have finally found a deli where I actually LIKE the deli people! This is coming from a Publix/Wegman's shopper....I am impressed. The store also has a very large Kosher section and well kept up, large produce section. There is an ice cream place and I think a deli, as well as Sbucks. The pharmacy used to be excellent but now it's staffed by surly, rude employees. They have screwed up prescriptions, lost prescriptions, almost never put non-child proof caps on per my continued request. One employee (named Maritza) actually lied to my face because she screwed up and actually tried to blame me for her mistake. One pharmacist is always on the phone and never looks up when a customer is present and makes you wait forever for a consult and then only reads the label as if he's doing you a great favor. After using that pharmacy for over 20 years (before it was Ralph's it was Smith's) I'm transferring all my prescriptions elsewhere. read more

On the plus side, this is a huge Ralphs, so the deli, butcher and Kosher section (not relevant to me but unique for a grocery store) are all very large. Well staffed and the lines move nicely. The annoyance of this location is that the parking lot is atrocious. Everybody who lives or frequents this shopping mall knows what I mean. It is incredibly congested as the garage below (which is usually almost empty) is not well marked or easily accessibly. Pretty decent for what it is: a HUGE corporate chain grocery store. You can get just about anything here, though it isn't organized in a way that makes sense to me. Their beer section is a whole aisle and it looks impressive until you start walking down it and looking closely: it is 2/3rds "big bland beer" and the rest is a mediocre craft beer selection (quite a let down in a place like San Diego). I'm not a fan of the pharmacy section--several of the "standard" things I get aren't available here. Prices seem to be competitive on most things. There's an impressively large selection of kosher foods. The parking lot at this mall should win an award...for being the worst-designed parking lot in America. It is much too narrow, too complicated to get around, full of bottlenecks, etc. A great example of why contracts shouldn't always go to the lowest bidder! The parking is a nightmare, the store is laid out differently than any other Ralph's so you won't find a thing, especially with how they laid it out. It's nonsensical how the food is organized, you'll always be looking forever. That said, I love how it's 24 hours and self-checkout is available all the time. However, there is NEVER baskets at the entrance to use or to even find in the checkout aisles, it's like they put them away instead of leave them out. They don't let you bring backpacks in, they immediately get on your case, but they don't have reusable bags out for self-check out so you always have people waiting a long time to get assistance. Now the workers. The worst part of it all. They are always chatting with each other, they intentionally move slowly when you ask them for things, but worst of all, they actually act like you're bothering them when you want something. I've never experience this from any grocery store in my entire life, and I experience it every time I come here. Management needs an overhaul. read more
