On September 14th, I visit the CVS Pharmacy located at 8831 Villa La Jolla Drive in La Jolla. Normally, I would avoid CVS due to a poor experience at the Mira Mesa location. However this visit was noably different. The nurse, Anna Hovack, provided outstanding care. She was professional, courteous, and maintained a welcoming demeanor throughout the visit. She consistently smiled, expressed genuine appreciation for our visit, and create a very positive environment. When administrating the vaccine, her technique was exceptionally gentle- so much so that injection was barely felt. Thanks to Anna's professionalism and kindness, CVS has redeemed itself in my view. Whoever manages this store is a failure and should return their salary immediately! I frequently purchase lottery tickets and CVS gladly takes the easy commission but is an utter failure for cashing the winners often with excuses that at 8:30 am they don't have even $10 in the register. If that's not the excuse I get, then it's the machine is broken, and I should go to another store about five minutes away to cash tickets. I have encountered problems about not being able to cash / buy tickets at least 8-10 times in the past year or so. I am going to report this store to the CA lottery commission as they don't deserve to sell lottery tickets if they can't cash them for miniscule amounts or even just replays. I have never faced such problems with any other store. I'm not going there to buy anything any more. Good riddance. read more

NEVER go to this CVS MinuteClinic! I am being charged extra fees for my visit not covered by my insurance. The nurse I spoke with did not advise me about this during my visit. Aside from that I waited over an hour for her to see me for less than 5 minutes, in which she just scanned my insurance and sent me to Quest Diagnostics instead. They never call me back. It says to try and use the app to send them a message and get a call back. I use the app to send a message. It shows it's received and nothing is ever done until I actually go into the store and wait in the long line just to ask them to refill a prescription because they won't respond via app (multiple attempts over multiple months), or call back or answer the phone. No way to get in touch with them and they ignore you until you walk in... then once you walk in they're pretty nice. But it's unreal to me that I've tried to refill a medication using every means possible and it's ignored until I actually go into the store. This happens every month. read more

Please go to this pharmacy if you want to pay the most out of pocket possible for you prescription. The head pharmacist on Saturday told me the price was $86 for my prescription. I told him I had a good rx coupon which would reduce the price to $48. He told me he couldn't use it because he couldn't change the prescription from generic to name brand and that he would be happy to sell it to me for $86. I then went to Vons with my prescription and they filled it through my insurance for $20. The CVS pharmacist was so frustrating because he seemed to really enjoy not being able to help me and to go out of his way to put up blockades. If you want a pharmacist to help you go to Vons Carmel Valley. Stay away from this CVS Villa La Jolla. I also will join others in changing pharmacies as my experience was so unpleasant! read more

This incident happened around 8am. I Went into the CVS store. The lady who assisted me was Nan. I asked for a charger and she was acting as if she didn't want to help me out at all. She was incredibly rude and mean and made fun of my voice. When i asked her about it, she was cutting me off and telling me have a great day trying to get rid of me and get me out of the store. It wasn't a great day being assisted by her. I asked for the manager and she told me that the manager was not present. She told me that she was just joking. She wasn't joking in my opinion. Clerks in the store are great. Pharmacist Marissa is the rudest, most dismissive employee I have ever encountered in the more than decade I have gotten all my RXes and much more there. She would flunk charm school. Counter productive. The kind of person who would lead someone to change stores if not companies or get home delivery. Daphne at the ear piercing station was amazing. She was so patient with my daughter. She gave her time to breathe and recalibrate after the first piercing. Then she explained how to keep her ears clean. I would definitely recommend coming here for ear piercing. read more

One star! Another complaint about finding this 24/7 location closed at night. In this case, after midnight on a Thursday. A note about the closure on the front door. But giving a bonus star because after being stuck in the parking lot, I discovered the Ralphs across the street had the same drug for $6 less! That was in addition to having the same $5 off coupon in the Ralphs app. :-) (The La Jolla Ralphs is no longer 24/7, shutting down 1am and open at 5am. Minute clinic visit was quick and efficient. I was able to get my vaccine and blood pressure reading no problem. I have no idea what it will cost me. The store itself is depressing. It's just got this vibe. The man who checked me out was very slow and not friendly in the slightest. I mean I felt like I was truly imposing on him because I decided to get a couple energy drinks. To be fair I first tried the self check out and it was just a crap show. I have used self check out A LOT and this one kept glitching. Gah! I was happy to get my appointment done with no wait, so I'd consider this minute clinic again. I would not however come here for just shopping. Oh! The refrigerator section isn't very robust. CVS Pharmacy just keeps getting worse. Read my previous review for context. (A) Except for the pharmacy, everything else has a 50-100% upcharge. It's laughable--perhaps even deceitful--that CVS boasts about how much savings you get. Coupons generally only bring down the price to match competitors' regular price. What a joke! (B) Customer service has always been kind and generous to me. But they're also often incompetent, especially if you have to call corporate. I just got off a 1-hour call just to fix refill reminder emails. I opted in but was not getting emails, and the first agent didn't understand such a simple issue and gave me irrelevant answers filled with unintelligible jargon. I asked to file a complaint for incredible incompetence, and the person I was transferred too also didn't understand and was about to turn off notifications. She also mumbled. Isn't it even more important that employees on the phone all day know how to enunciate? I finally got transferred for the third time, and the agent finally understood the simple issue and fixed it. However, knowing how unreliable CVS, I **triple-checked** with the agent that reminders will only be sent as emails and not as text or phone calls. Sure enough, a minute after the call ended, I received a text message welcoming me to text reminders and automated reminder calls. What a joke! (C) Both their app and website is worse than navigating iTunes: It's chaotic with little logical flow. It's also filled with jargon that requires you to learn as a second language. Furthermore, their app and website are unreliable, as exemplified in (B): Opting in for email reminders isn't guaranteed to work. Within the last few months, I've also had to call in to turn off text reminders because, well, you know: The app and website are unreliable. What a joke! --- It's nice that they offer me free delivery of medication (but I don't know if that applies to everyone else). I also appreciate that some locations are open 24 hours (but probably explains in part the sky-high upcharges). But you are a fool if you think you are saving money by shopping at CVS, and it's downright shameful and disgusting how unreliable CVS is, both with their customer service and their app/website. Some people's lives depend on reliable delivery of medication. I'm immediately shopping around to take my business elsewhere. I've had enough of this immense joke that is CVS. read more

I read somewhere that CVS makes so much money on the drugs that they sell, that they could literally give everything else in the store away for free, and still make a huge profit. Of course, you wouldn't know that, because the pharmacy is tucked away in the back. So you have to pass through aisle after aisle of junk that is cheaper elsewhere just to get your expensive meds. I guess I consider CVS kind of a necessary evil. I hate the fact that they are so expensive, but I have to admit that they are convenient. I guess that's what I'm paying for! read more

I wish I can give 0 starts... long story short: got poisoned yesterday by something (apple or kiwi I believe), was puking 2 hours straight and finally find chance to get in a car and make it to this CVS. So barely alive with the plastic bag in case I my use it :) I make it through the store to the far right corner to ask ppl behind the glass about what should I buy. Simple, right? Nothing special, just a powder to mix with water to drink it or something similar to use in my situation. It's not a rocket science, I knew how it works when I was 6 y.o. The only problem I got is I dunno the analog of it in USA. The woman talked to me like I have here the rest of my day with her asking stupid questions which I understand doesn't lead to anything (in the fact it seems like she just doesn't want to take responsibility for what she suppose to advise) and in the end offered me to stay in another line. Jesus God, who hire u, mor*ns? Thanks to unbaged Mexican worker(not even the cashier I believe) by the front door, he rly advised the best he can. Not a fan, at all... I recently had LASIK surgery and the eye dr office needed to submit a prescription for the eye drops if need before and after the operation. CVS is much closer to my house then my local Kaiser so I asked them to submit the order to CVS. Problem was, CVS wouldn't use my Kaiser insurance and wanted to charge $90 for the same eye drops I can get at Kaiser for $20. I understand that my insurance wasn't being accepted so I transferred the order to Kaiser. Driving and extra 10 minutes was worth saving the $70! Real problem is even after telling CVS twice that I would not be fulfilling the prescription, they continued to call and leave me voicemails for 10 days with the same message. "Sorry we aren't able to fill your prescription. It is available for pickup at your earliest convenience". 10 days of unknown numbers calling me and leaving me the same message after the eye dr office and I told them the prescription was no longer needed. Seriously CVS! Don't hassle potential future customers who have already declined your services. read more

I'm getting more frequently annoyed with their service. I had gone in for a scheduled appointment to get a vaccine that they had apparently said wasn't on any of the records they had for me. And I understand that even if you're using a digital immunization records it only goes back a couple of years but this vaccine in question was something I had received on a regular basis since I was a kid and that had already been approved by my current doctor and previous ones. But apparently that wasn't in cvs records. So the lady asked me why I needed it so I explained. She then answers by stating that they don't have that in their records. Ok fine I get it. But don't continue to ask me why I think I need said vaccine then continue to interrupt me each time because you don't like my response. And giving me the same explanation. Instead you could have pointed me in the right direction to try and solve this issue. But no you decided to continue your approach which caused me to feel increasingly more embarrassed about the whole situation and treating me like a child. Also on a previous situation with a different lady I had gone in to get some some ADHD meds for the first time since I was diagnosed late in life. When I went in to pick it up the lady out right said "I can't understand why you're suddenly now allowed to get this medication when you've never had it before." Like I was trying to pull a fast one on them or something. I get that this type of job can be frustrating but I also know I'm not the only person who has been diagnosed with something later in life. Finally, I used to work in customer service too and dealing with the public has its challenges. Especially when there are shortages of medication out there. However if you can't be kind at least as a bare minimum listen it's not that hard. read more

As I was checking out, I overheard a manager (by the name of Richard) speaking very loudly to a coworker. Richard was telling a younger employee that if something wasn't done IMMEDIATELY, then their pay would be docked. Considering this was my first time there, and the manager said this in front of several customers, I truly couldn't believe my ears. This type of open harassment is disgraceful. This younger employee had helped me earlier with my shopping, they were very kind and willing to help. There is no reason to openly harass another coworker - whether you're a manager or otherwise. Richard needs a serious reminder of California laws and regulations seeing as this 100% constitutes as unlawful harassment in the state of California. read more

This location has a decent selection of product and is available on Uber Eats. When I had covid and had to quarantine Uber Eats was the service I relied on most heavily. I got an oximeter from this CVS through UE along with cough drops and other items to soothe my aches and pains. read more

Racially profiling. i went straight to the counter to ask the attendant where the bathroom was because that's all i needed. they told me and i went to the back corner where the bathroom was. i knocked, it was busy so i grabbed by phone and walked towards the empty area with no products that's right outside the bathroom hall. why was i greeted by security personnel asking me if i'm waiting for the bathroom.. i was still in the hallway with no items or counter present so i was OBVIOUSLY waiting for the bathroom. i didn't appreciate being the only person asked what i was doing. i admit, i look suspicious with a hat, glasses AND a mask on but i thought it was innocent until proven guilty.. my hair isn't done and covid is not gone lol I asked for the manager and was told he wasn't in. i asked for the assistant manager and a gentleman came from the back to speak to me. the board outside says the names of both manager and ast. manager and whoever came out to talk to me was neither of the names listed. i asked him do they normally have security follow people to the bathroom. he said "i don't know about that, you'll have to ask my manager." i asked when the manager would be in and was told "in the mornings between 6-8am because he manages more than one location." what's crazier is that most of the employees here today are people of color... The demise of the integrative pharmacy in La Jolla has left la Jolla stranded with this comedy show - except it's a dark comedy where customers are in need of medication or in pain. 1. First of all their card machine was not working and they blamed our Monzo account. 2. Spent 30 minutes searching for mouth sore gel with no help from staff who did not know what a mouth sore was 3. An elderly lady came in and asked for turmeric - the pharmacist told her she didn't know what it was and didn't stock it - I saw 15 boxes of it in the store - - how in the name of god do you not know what you stock ? Phillip is the only reason I come to this CVS over any other location. He has such a positive attitude and he greeted us when we walked in. He helped me use my coupons at self check out as well. I am writing to express deep disgust with the treatment both the pharmacist and tech gave a physician calling into the pharmacy and also the parent trying to pick up a medication. The MD called, and tried to speak to a person because the Rx is for a patient not in town and bc it was somewhat urgent (intractable vomiting in a toddler). They were left on hold for an hour. When called back they said they were placing on hold because you "insist" to hold, and can't leave a message, explaining it was complicated bc this was a first visit. The pharmacist then refused to pull the info from another CVS and was extremely rushed and rude on the phone. I do not recommend this place. The Rx was able to get it filled at at a Walgreens Community Pharmacy nearby where everyone was professional, normal, helpful. read more

This can be a hit or miss location . Parking can be awful as they share the lot with Whole Foods and a few other popular tenants . Interior seems outdated and items tend to be hard to find . Pharmacy is to the back right hand corner . Cashiers greeted us when we walked in so that was nice . We stopped by to get flu medicine as well as some lotion . They have their own generic OTC meds that are more affordable and sometimes on sale . Lotion wasn't on sale though . No line to check out which was cool for a change . Cashier was nice as well . Don't forget to bring your own bag ! They charge now for plastic bags for your purchase . read more

I read someone else's review and they said "it's a CVS..." which is of course true, but this one stands out from just about any other CVS I've ever been to and not in a positive way. For starters, in a small shopping center that has a nightmare of a parking problem. If you find a parking space without having to circle the parking lot five times, consider yourself lucky. The store itself is nice and the people working are nice. But it's much smaller than most other CVS stores. I have never been to CVS for their main function, to get a prescription refilled. Whenever I go to a CVS it's for something else they sell and they always seem to have what I need. Except when it comes to glasses. I'm of that age where I need "reading" glasses. I usually go to Rite Aid but just lost mine and needed a new pair right away. I was very close so I went into this store hoping to just pick up a quick pair. Of course they have reading glasses, but just like almost every other CVS store, they have a limited selection of +1.50 reading glasses. I've never done any formal research, but given that anytime I've ever looked for reading glasses, the +1.50 selection always seems to be limited which tells me they are likely the most popular. But the crazy thing is if I can figure that out, why can't the store and have more in stock? I did pick up a pair, but will go to my local Rite Aid later to pick form a much larger selection. Again, I'm sure the service at this CVS is fine for prescriptions and like me, just picking up something. But it's a much smaller store than the typical CVS and the parking in this shopping center is enough to make your blood pressure go through the roof. Lastly, they need some blinds over the windows above the check-out counters. In the afternoon, the sun is shining through and it's painfully blinding to people standing in line and even when at the check-out counter. When I started in line, I noticed everyone at the very front of the line was standing away from the line. It wasn't until I got to the front that I was absolutely blinded by the light coming through and had to move my self. When I was called to the check-out counter, I was still seeing spots from the blinding light and realized it still hits you at the check-out counter. The windows are tinted, but it's not enough. They need to put up blinds. read more
