As of June 15 2021, I have undergone a bad experience with the current pharmacy manager at the CVS pharmacy at La Jolla drive. My prescriber in California has been mixed up with my old prescriber in Massachusetts, and she has been contacting my old prescriber, with whom, naturally, I had no more refills. As a result, I have been out of my medicines for a few days. While trying to explain to her on the phone today, she did not let me talk, and yelled at me as if I did not have knowledge of my own prescriptions/prescribers. Just so happens, that I am a clinical pharmacologist working for a drug company, and am fully aware of my prescriptions and prescribers. Moreover, she told me that I would have to contact my prescriber, as she could not do anything about the situation. I have then contacted CVS in Del Mar, and had my prescriptions transferred to their store. They quickly contacted my current prescriber with the request, without issues. Note that, I live in La Jolla, and from now own, I will have to drive to Del Mar to get my prescriptions refilled. I am a professional, and a mom of a 5-year old, thus, this bad experience with the current manager in the CVS La Jolla dr has negatively affected my life. I do hope CVS takes an action so that the lives of other customers will not be negatively impacted as well. read more

The pharmacy staff here are rude and don't know what they're talking about. I went to pick up a medication I have been on for 5 years and when I went to get it the employee "helping" me said that my insurance no longer covers it so it would be $500. I need this medication daily so I told them I would like to buy one weeks worth so I can get this sorted out with insurance. They then told me they were out of the medication so that was the problem. Then they brought over another person who told me my doctor never filled the prescription, which I know she did because I had a med check earlier that morning so I showed them the confirmation that my doctor gave me proving she sent it. I also got in contact with my insurance and found out they never stopped covering my medication. Will be using literally any other pharmacy from now on. read more

The pharmacists at this location are extremely rude and untruthful. They tried to tell me I could not use a health savings card simply because my insurance did not cover. The instructions on what to do if insurance does not cover the medication is on the card. They did not bother to read it. They told me to contact the savings card company. I did and when they looked at my account it showed the pharmacy never even put in the claim. They lied and then tried to cover their incompetence by saying the medication is not in stock. Wow. I can't believe what I just witnessed at this CVS. I listened to a woman get reprimanded for what? I've seen this happen before. She is a professional educator in town and has lived here most of her life. You could see she was at the hospital because she still had her hospital wristband on and was picking up aspirin and another item. I heard her say she gets her prescriptions here but I'm sure she won't after this awful incident with a so-called store manager who is abusive to customers for no reason. She went to the self check register like most of us do trying to do a self check out and use some coupons. She asked the worker standing at the self checkout registers the proper way to do it through self check and see if coupons apply, and the man answered and said he was the manager and he is not. He may be an assistant manager or manager on duty or a store lead. I don't know, nor do I care. That was number one. He lied. Her coupons did not go through, which happens but I have used several coupons where it's covered without the exact same product that's on the coupon, so I put them all through and several store clerks do the same. For example, I've gotten L'Oreal creams but I have a L'Oreal eyeliner coupon and it has gone through. Not only at the CVS on Balboa, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas and up in Irvine and Los Angeles but somehow they don't go through here? And I watched and witnessed her getting reprimanded frankly and abused as well as humiliated about her breaking the register by asking Chris about how to do self check and put coupons through? He said loudly because she scanned all the coupons that she broke the machine because screen repeatedly froze saying need assistance, it doesn't mean you broke the machine. That happens at Ralph's, Vons, and all the supermarkets when you're doing self check and things like that just happen. I've been to 1000s of Cvs's where that happens. He just didn't want to help. This is Cruel indecent behavior by an employee. Scanning your coupons and putting them through the slot does not break a register, assistant store manager, or store lead and you know that. I don't know how to do self check with coupons and I'm in the legal field. Really? His behavior is unacceptable and frankly harassing and abusing a nice customer. This is a CVS store in the heart of where students and many people in town like to shop or try to shop. Not only will I be pulling all of my prescriptions from CVS and I love their pharmacy, but I'm going to be boycotting CVS especially this location. The man's 'name was Chris who claimed to be the store manager and I happen to know that he is not the manager. Darren is the manager of this store so I urge everyone who witnessed this today, February 28 to boycott this CVS and furthermore make certain that the CVS District Leader is notified about the behavior of this so-called manager by the name of Chris. On to Rite Aid after being here for over 55 years and my entire family as well. I also didn't like seeing the white hair/ gray haired lady who's been here for 50+ years give her a mean stare. It starts at the top. Awful. The customer had to walk all the way back to the pharmacy to buy her aspirin and another item because this Chris wouldn't help her at the register claiming she broke the register by scanning a few coupons? I mean you can't even make this up. This should never be tolerated anywhere yet alone a CVS. My family frequently shops in this plaza and every single store is extremely friendly with amazing employees and leads don't claim they are managers and lie to customers either including Nordstrom's Sephora, Philz Coffee, Sprinkles, Aveda Salon, Whole Foods of course. We notice everyone goes out of their way to make shopping an enjoyable experience and are super friendly in this plaza except for this CVS. You can see in a review on here 4 months ago in which Desiree writes a review that a similar incident happened with a manager Richard. Everyone knows in the corporate world that it all starts at the top, so management is an example of what's been repetitively happening in this store. I usually don't leave reviews, but I'm very angry. I'm having some health issues, so I came in to get antibiotics. The pharmacy was fine as always, but I was in a rush because I had to catch the train. I decided to pick up some snacks for my boyfriend really quickly, and the receipt was taking a long time to print. I thought it was done, so I pulled it, and the little paper thing came out. A worker in the store came to me, and I joked that I was too strong, he said in a very very rude tone "when you're impatient, that happens". Basically, yelling at me like I'm a child he was reprimanding I said I'm sorry, I'm just in a rush. Obviously, I'm not at my best right now, because I have a kidney infection, but he doubled down and told me I just had to be patient in a really rude way. I will not be yelled at for no reason, especially not twice. It was an honest mistake. I work in customer service as well, I understand it's difficult, but I was not okay with how he talked to me today. Never shopping there again, only going for the pharmacy. This is by far the WORST pharmacy I have ever dealt with! Avoid! Incompetent, rude, and unreliable. I have used other CVS pharmacies around the country, so I thought this pharmacy would conduct business in the same manner- no way. They do not notify you if your prescription has not been cleared by your insurance, or if there is any issue with your new prescription or refill. Your Doctor will call in a refill, and they will not fill it until you call them. Which means calling them in the phone, waiting 15 mins to speak to someone. And the staff is incredibly rude. And no one will take responsibility for the errors that occur. I am so frustrated with them that I've had it. Plus, every time you go to pick up your medicine, the line is 10 people deep with 1 cashier. I will be taking my business elsewhere ASAP read more

Pharmacy is very slow, doesn't get back to you, lets refills expire when they were ordered 6 days before. They were supposed to mail it, they did not. Prescription for my 100 yr old mother was supposed to be sent to her apartment, they didn't do it. she was staying with me for a couple of weeks. I had to drive cross town 4 times to try too retrieve the RX. Finally called Monica the manager said now the RX is expired and we have to go back to the Dr. Do you know how long that take? A lot of time. If they don't have something they should call and let you know it is on backorder not let you think to was mailed. BAD PHARMACY. They just count the pills and their customers come last. read more

Even though this place is not 24/7 as they said, but the staffs here are actually very helpful! Come by the day time or afternoon time and you will see Phillip. He is very very helpful that will take care of customers and make sure they got everything they need. If not he will even give customers suggestions and make sure they are well taken care of. I have emergency surgery and cannot stand or walk. I need the prescriptions right away. I've called to ask them to expedite so that I can prepay for someone to pick up. In the past, they were helpful but today the woman on the phone told me the only way that I can get them sooner is to come in physically and sit in a chair in pain while they fill the Rx. I've never been dehumanized in such a cold and heartless way. These people should not be in the healthcare industry. Just shameful heartless people working there. read more

I've been a customer for the last 10 years and 9 times out of 10 you will get consistently rude pharmacists with a pharmacy that is always short staffed. The last thing any sick person should deal with after being discharged from the hospital are crazy rude pharmacists. Lines to pick up your Rx will literally wind down the aisles after work rush hour. The wait isn't the worst of it - the insanely rude pharmacists are. Listen CVS pharmacy, your customers are here bc they are ill ... the last thing any paying customer needs is to be treated poorly. It is so frustrating to come to your store just to grab one item, and I can't because you're closed at 9:30pm on a Friday, but Google AND your front sign say 24/7. I never thought I'd have an opinion about a pharmacy, but this place was so unbelievably bad I had to write about it. Not only does this pharmacy suck and the people who work here unpleasant, their business practices are lazy/shady. Do not go here. I filled a prescription here for an eye cream that ended up costing over $200. When I saw the price tag, I asked the clerk to return it and told her that I would ask my doctor to prescribe a generic or something else. She took the medicine back, and I left the store without paying a single cent for it. A week later I discover that they have billed my insurance for medicine that I never purchased; a phone call to my insurance company found that they had never returned or reversed the charges in all this time. I'd tolerated the general rude/slow/unprofessionalism of this pharmacy before, but this was it. Please, don't go here, even if it is the closest place to campus. There's a pharmacy in the Ralph's across the street and I'm sure it can't be worse. read more

Pharmacy review: COVID booster. I had a terrible and probably illegal pharmacy service. My doctor had asked me to get a booster for COVID as I'm immune compromised, close to 50. Made an appt through the CVS app and was approved. However the pharmacy manager Sheilaz refused me anything and said she could only do 50plus as per CDC guidelines. I told her that actually CDC says that anyone with autoimmune problems can get them. I am suffering from an immune disorder and I'm not even supposed to have to disclose this info as it's against HIIPA guidelines. My boyfriend had to explain CDC guidelines to her and show her the website and she didn't want to do it an argued with him but finally did. I'm very upset about this experience and would like CVS corporate to know this is not ok. read more

The woman working at the "Drop off" window of the pharmacy today clearly is extremely unhappy with her life and/or hates herself. She had a chip on her shoulder and was rude to not just me, but the 3 customers before me. Normally I get mediocre service at the pharmacy, but at least the other employees haven't been seething with passive-aggressive resentment. If you want to be given incorrect information by lackluster employees who don't communicate with each other, wait in long lines, and talk to automated machines when you call with questions, then CVS pharmacy is the right place for you! read more

The best CVS I ever visited. I only go to CVS for contact solution or eye drops and this one is near my house. When I walked in I was greeted by a really nice lady who offered her assistance. I've never been greeted before walking into a CVS. Later after taking 14 minutes to finally decide which contact solution I wanted....because I'm very indecisive when it comes to purchases. When approaching the counter the cashier was very nice as well. She was friendly and had a smile on her face. You know the type of customer service you see on those tv shows that takes place in the 50s that type of stellar customer service. How can I forget about how neat it was inside. ‍Of course the next main important thing to a review. It was very neat and tidy inside. My experience here was awesome. The isle way layout was very simple. With good eye site you could potentially see where you need t go just by being at the front of the store. read more

I used to really like going to this CVS, because the cashiers were so friendly and helpful. Several were older, and had worked there for years, including through the worst of the COVID pandemic. I went there recently and was shocked to see them gone, with only self-checkout stations, instead. These are also the worst machines ever. There is a very small space to put scanned products, and the screens are filthy. The machines are close together, and the line gets backed up. I won't ever shop at CVS again. It's really an inefficient, depressing place now. read more

VIOLATED STATE LAW TWICE: This pharmacy needs to be investigated for 1. Failing to adhere to doctor's orders in filling a specified generic brand. This was with my first script through them, I called twice to verify if they had the correct brand and they stated yes they did; went to pick it up and it was the WRONG brand. For a day they refused to acknowledge wrongdoing, after repeated calls and threats to goto the attorney general, and the state board of pharmacy they rectified the situation. This is AFTER I had to go a day taking the WRONG medicine which could mean cancer can come back. 2. I kept getting transferred to 3 different lines to verify generic brand, address, and name. By the time (30 min) I had finalized everything to their liking, after waiting in multiple lines I was stuck with a pharmacist refusing to sell me my supplement (I had to go back to another line for that even know she was a pharmacist!) This, by action is an attempted refusal to sell me my medicine, ANOTHER violation of state law. I had to get the MANAGER involved to force THE PHARMACIST to sell my my script. In ONLY 2 dealings with this "pharmacy" I've run into TWO CONSECUTIVE VIOLATIONS OF STATE LAW. This "pharmacy" needs to be reported to the attorney general, and bureau of pharmacy. They did this to me in my FIRST TWO DEALINGS with them, they do this to EVERYONE! Others should come forward and report this place. read more

MAGIC BOX MACHINE That's why I go here. I scan my CVS card and the machine pops out coupons for me. Sometimes they're useful (Extra Bucks, coupons, freebies) and other times, I trash them ($5 for two eyeliner???). They have two machines so sometimes I'm feeling lucky that both will spit out coupons. I only like this location because it's 24/7, but usually the prices are more expensive than say...Ralphs. The cashiers are decent, you get your grumpy ones and your nicey nice. Just go here for the extra bucks. They're exactly like gift cards, except nontransferable. read more

One of the better CVS's I have seen. None of them anywhere are too glamorous inside, but this one is better than most in Los Angeles--then again, how do you compare SD and LA? Pharmacy staff was nice and respectful. Well stocked. Open 24/7!! Love that! Prices high unless you have discounts or coupons, and then it will still be more than Walmart even with all the savings. I have given this place enough chances, but after seeing how they treat me, my family and other customers I have come to realize that this is certifiably the WORST pharmacy I've ever heard of. I think the place is a little cluttered in the layout but I'm also able to always find what I need. What's best is when I check out, and they almost cheer me on with my savings and are very careful to apply all my savings and coupons :) read more

Two weeks ago, I ordered my mom her heart attack medication. The woman told me my mom's info was on file, and they would charge me $7.99 for mailing the drug to her. No problem, she would get it in 2 days. Today, her aid called to say they never got the drug. I called the cvs pharmacy, and they told me they had no record of the order. I was in shock. The pharmacy tech told me there was nothing they could do about it now. Horrible. They never sent her life saving drug and don't even care. read more

Such a convenient store, with a great pharmacy. Oftentimes I had to come in here for girlfriends drugs and they always had them ready to go. Very efficient staff. Lots of other great items too. I was glad to see they carry a big variety of drinks too. The even had my Stabucks cappuccino. A geat place to shop. read more

Said my pain medication script would be available NEXT DAY because they need to call the doctor. For pain meds. I need them NOW you incompetent idiots. I just had surgery. I wanted the script back so I could take it somewhere else but then they said oh it suddenly went through. OH REALLY? Then they said it would be an hour from now. Ridiculous. This is not my normal CVS pharmacy and my normal one takes only 15 minutes. This pharmacy is awful and incompetent. I will never come here again. It's a CVS, so what you expect from a national chain pharmacy is probably what you are going to get, but here are some helpful tips from a local: * The line to pick up your order at the pharmacy gets SUPER long around 5 p.m. on weekdays. But there is usually no line down the road at the CVS on Town Centre Drive (which is much smaller, but who wants to wait in a long line after work?) * Since the Villa La Jolla CVS is located within a neighborhood flooded with college students, you get extra scrutiny at the checkout line when buying alcohol. That means if you and your girlfriend go to the register with a six-pack, the cashier will ask for BOTH your IDs. Probably not an issue if you're over 21, but if you look young and forgot your driver's license, it will be a problem. Just something to keep in mind. * Make sure to check the expiration dates on sale food items (this applies to all drug stores, not just CVS). I recently opted not to purchase a discounted bottle of cooking oil because the expiration was months away (and ended up buying one at a nearby supermarket with an expiration date two years away) * POSITIVES: it's walking distance from my home, and located next to Whole Foods and Chase bank so I can multi-task. Biggest advantage is that it's open 24 hours, so this is truly convenient. Plus even though the pharmacy pick-up line is long, the staff is efficient and professional. read more
