The plus of the this store it is downtown La Jolla and walking distance to hotels. The downside it's that the store is small and the assortment isn't there. The parent company Albertsons has been limiting assortment around the country which I feel has been affecting sales and market share. Also prices are very expensive compared to a Kroger branded store. I went looking for a phone charger and took a while and asking an associate where they were located. First Time shopping at PAVILIONS! We don't see a lot of these groceries stores around Temecula so I wanted to check it out... VEGGIES: 10/10 All the veggies were nicely stacked and organized. It was almost like an artwork. There was a nice pyramid of cherry tomatoes!! LIGHTING: 8/10 The lighting was on the dim side. But, you can still see your items that you want to shop for. You have to wonder around to find it mostly yourself but, you'll find it. I have faith in you!.. PAVILIONS @ LA JOLLA Parking is available in an entire lot free of charge, it was definitely busy on a Friday today because the sun's out! Easy walking distance. The grocery store itself is very clean, and already into the season of fall! We were there to look for ice cream, specifically Talenti, sadly they had so much being sold out in the flavor but we still got another with many options. The deals were great, it was buy two bags of chips and get the two free! The cash registers for self check out went by quick, you can also pay through a cashier in their many opened aisles. The selection was great, ambiance was clean, and the staff were very friendly. There is also a Starbucks located inside, was very crowded with only one worker however. I went to Pavilions because I am recovering from shoulder surgery so can't self-checkout and bag right now. I figured Pavilions in La Jolla would be top of the line and would have good, helpful service. Right? Wrong! The store wasn't busy until I got to the cash registers. ONE full service register was open in the entire store, with a line snaking down the aisle. I went to Pavilions today to get a chicken dinner. The dinner was very delicious. I had two thighs, caesar salad, and macaroni salad. The service was very fast and made sure to assist me with a fork and napkins so I could enjoy my meal. Very clean inside as well. I wish I could've got chicken salad as a side by that counts as a protein but my macaroni salad was a good switch. read more

I came in for the rotisserie chicken at about 12 noon. It was the only one left. I proceeded to eat some about 830 at night and it kind of disintegrated in my mouth so I didn't eat very much of it but this is weird and then I am still sick. I ate it last night and it's 22 hours later and I'm still sick. Be careful. Don't eat their stupid chicken. Also heard other people get sick from it. Used to frequent this place 25 years ago. Excellent spot for a quick pick me up if you need coffee or even food. They have a decent floral department too! Easy to get in and out of and it's never too busy. Dropped by here one night to grab a soda and gum. Was in and out in a flash. Wouldn't hesitate to drop by again when in the area. read more

While admiring the extraordinary food selection at the deli, we decided a nice dinner at the beach would be perfect. Both Mr. Bryant and Mr. Jonathan were so helpful as they patiently explained the meal combination to me. Mr. Bryant at the deli department served us and had no idea we were in San Diego celebrating our 31st wedding anniversary. He completed my order then made a sandwich for my husband. He went out of his way offering the variety of selection and made the absolute best sandwich! We are so grateful for his professionalism and friendliness. I have house guests to feed and shopped 3 times at this Pavilions in the last 2 weeks. As you enter the automatic door on the LEFT (facing the store), there is security men who greet customers as they enter. Each time I enter, I'm not greeted at all, but the white customers are greeted with gusto. Today, Sat, 8/2/25, same thing. I was NOT greeted by security man. Is this racism? Produce is beyond bad! There are moldy oranges in organic bin... most fruits are overripe, bruised & not fresh! In both organic & non organic bins. I stop in occasionally for their deli items and a sandwich or burger. It's always service with a smile and great quality and prices too! I have had their burger a few times and it's really good! I stopped in a few weeks ago and the grill was shut down because it was close to closing time for the deli but Darlene Schuler turned it back on and grilled me a burger! Ugh. I just can't. I won't shop here any longer because the environment is proof of how little the corporate heads think of us. From floor to ceiling ugh ugh. Lighting is just awful. It seems like whoever selected from the vast lighting options rainbow, picked the color death. The once blousy juicy floral department in this store which previously kept pace with some of the other lovely boutique shops in town, feels like a little decontented island where there's not much if anything to swoon over or buy. The floor is a shiny and dizzying maze of cut and patched concrete dating from who knows when. It's unsightly and distracting under the gloom of light. Pretty much any good to acceptable aesthetic in this store has been erased. Want to shop for adult beverages? Only if you appreciate a weirder than freezer lit jailed cabinet as part of the experience. It's uncomfortable, awkward and aside from grabbing an item or two the vibe is RUN girl RUN! When Jonathan's closed, locals were sad. During that transition this store really amped their game and made the loss not as great. Since other food stores have opened in the area and Pavillions has dumbed down the shopping experience and environment, there's no reason to go (here). Staff are trying, they really are. I feel for them having to work in a space that doesn't even have the charm of a warehouse. Support one of the other food and grocers that bother to create a memorable experience. read more

We were in La Jolla last weekend and made a Friday night stop at this Pavilions after the kids went to bed. This might have qualified as a mini-date, as it was the one time all weekend when we left the babies in the house with their grandparents to go do something on our own. It was a nice grocery store, open and quiet at 9:30 at night. We needed baby food pouches and milk, and we were able to find both right away. Our baby is quite the pouch enthusiast, and the various Happy Baby et al. offerings got us through a weekend of dining out. We also picked up a six-pack of Ballast Point Aloha Sculpin, a refreshing hazy IPA that we drank at the house while the children slept. Service was pleasant and fast and we were in and out in a pleasant ten or fifteen minutes. If I lived in La Jolla, I'd be glad to have this Pavilions as my neighborhood grocery store. read more

Staying in La Jolla for a staycation and was able to get all that I needed from here. We don't have a Pavilions where I live. They had a variety of selections on different items I needed. The only down side I wasn't able to find any strawberries. I went first thing this morning so maybe that's why. The cashier and workers were all very friendly and the inside was very clean. I will NEVER be a customer at Pavilions ever again. I have shopped here and lived close by for a long time. Always been a fan and have ordered my groceries from here multiple times. Yesterday, however, I parked in the lot at 4:54 on a Sunday evening, all the way in the back spot. The lot was half empty and not peak AT ALL. I went into a local shop right next to the Pavilions. When I came back to my car, there was a $60 ticket right on my window for parking in the lot and not being a guest, given by "Stephen". This is so disgusting that I have supported this business for a long time and this nitpicky BS is the thank you. I am telling everyone in my local community about this experience and to not support Pavillions if this is how they treat their loyal customers. I emailed and repealed the ticket, and was denied the repeal. We all know Pavilions is not hurting for money. If this were peak summertime during the day, I would completely understand having the entire lot reserved, as it can be crowded in the summertime. But a HALF EMPTY parking lot and parking in the furthest spot away from the store in January is insane! There are local mom and pop shops in PB that don't even do that, and the parking there is 100000x worse. What a scummy way to get money from supporting customers and to pay someone to sit there and watch people get out of their cars. Absolutely disgusting and gave me the ick that they have an attendant who watches A HALF EMPTY PARKING LOT on a slow, lazy Sunday evening during January, no less, to issue citations to the same local people who have helped fund this place. I live right near this location and will purposely drive past this place and never be a customer again. All I see now when I look at this place is greed, and I am going to make sure every single person who shops here knows about this experience. read more

There are few grocery options in this part of La Jolla so it's helpful to have this spot here. Not sure what makes this a Pavilions instead of a Vons. There's lots of parking which makes it super convenient to get to. Pavillions is the only real grocery store in Lajolla village and I like the fact that they have a Starbucks in the store, however there is a blonde woman (the cross eyed one) who works there and she is always so down in the mouth. She is nasty and should not be allowed to be in customer service. They need to put her in the stockroom in the back. Anyone working at Starbucks should be friendly. Couldn't be a negative star? The store, itself, is really nice. The employees, however, go through some sort of personality remover. I'm a friendly person, I say good morning to people, i guess that makes me weird in 2024. I won't give any names b/c I'm not into in using Yelp as a weapon, even though it would be justified today. I approached an employee and said good morning. No response. I said, hi again, once again no response. Finally, excuse me do you work here...finally a yes. I ask my question, get a head shake no. My response, thank you, you've been very helpful. I guess when you're a Pavilion's employee you're very important. Finally, at the front of the store I meet a friendly employee named, Mingo. To begin, I have always been a huge fan of Pavilions. I like to support the neighborhood and its businesses. I've tolerated the year long renovations at Pavilions, the construction equipment abandoned all over their parking lot, fencing that you couldn't see over or around, the installation of electric car charging stations, the chaos of all products being relocated throughout the store, and finally the overpriced merchandise at Pavilions that both Vons and Ralphs always manage to beat. Yes, parking can be an issue at Pavilions during peak times which I know from experience as I shop at there every 2-3 days. Today was a rainy day due to the storm front that has flooded parts of San Diego/La Jolla. The Pavilion parking lot was half full. I parked at the back of the Pavilion parking lot and ran two errands at shops near the back. Then I went to Pavilions and dropped $200 shopping. I returned to my car to find a parking ticket for $60 stating my violation was "Not immediate customer of business" meaning I did not go to Pavilions immediately after parking my car. I took my ticket and shopping receipt back to the store manager who was as unfriendly as he was unhelpful. This ticket was not issued by the police or any government agency. Delivery from Pavilions is a fraud. You order from Pavilions and pray that the items ordered come to you. Missing items? Customer Service is in Manila, Philippines. So said Emil, Alice, Bertha, and John. Three hours and no one could see the order, It was from Albertsons... bla, bla, bla. End result, they charged two deliveries, one for the food and a separate charge for the missing wine bottle. One came from Pavilions, the other was supposed to originate from Cellar Albertsons. And did they care? No, they used their own structure to send me back and forth. I am exhausted!!!!!!! All of the people who spoke to me were in Manila. So good luck to me on this dispute right??????? Bottom line, I paid 38 dollars for the missing bottle. Had I walked to the store I would have paid 21. And now I am ready to go buy it, yes, but from a different merchant. I am 64 years old and am, unfortunately, have suffered from chronic illnesses for many years. Despite this, I've travelled across the USA and Europe. When visiting the Pharmacy here in La Jolla today, I encountered the most deliberately unhelpful staff/management that I have ever encountered anywhere. Smug, unfriendly, unconcerned. The layout isn't convenient or easy . But it's a clean and well maintained . Plenty of parking this Sunday afternoon. Beautiful flower selection as well . And carts were readily available at entrance . There's a Starbucks inside as well . Just wanted to get my Vons brand seltzer water which was near impossible to find . No one seemed to be available to help so I was stuck wandering the entire store looking for just water . The water isn't located in neither the water or mixer aisle . We love to shop in the Vons in La Jolla and we are very happy with the produce, fruits etc. However, the seafood is simply unacceptable. Two times we purchased shrimps and cod and frankly had to trash it both times. It seems something wrong with where they purchase the seafood or how it is stored. ANTISEMITISM!!! We live in a time where the manager of a store that has a kosher section should understand what keeping food kosher means and be respectful even if it's not their thing. I was with my boyfriend and when he went to get some kosher items there were a few packages of prosciutto lined up on a shelf in the kosher fridge like they belonged there (if you keep strict kosher this means the items in the fridge are all no longer kosher). He found a manager that was near by and the manager looked at him like he was crazy and told him, 'it's not a big deal man, just take it out of there.' He told him if it had been removed before he came then he never would have known the difference. Not Acceptable!!!! read more

I went in on 4/8 around 8am to replenish our food stock and came out feeling comfortable about my shopping experience. During this trying time of coronavirus pandemic, this store has done a great job implementing some new measures to keep their staffs and the customers safe. The inventory was well stocked that I had a found all the items we needed-except celery which was missing for some reason. Two weeks later, the fresh produce were all well stocked including celery. And I also learned that all the shopping carts were sanitized when the staff collected them back to be used again! So much appreciated!! read more

The sign out front says no pets (service animals excepted) but they do not enforce it. Today I encountered a shopper with her dog sprawled out IN the cart. The cart that the next shopper will be putting their family's food in. This is unsanitary and just ignorant. There is even a security guard at the entrance of the store. Why do they let this happen?! I am a Coach at a high school. I stopped by to pick up a few things. The prepared foods section was my main stop. I stood there for a couple of minutes til I was acknowledge by the prepared food employees.. The gentleman at the sandwich counter acknowledge me but advised the other 8 would assist. Again, that took awhile the traffic flow was 0. Plus I am 6'1 easily noticed. Took my order after(rock, paper, scissor). Get the picture. I experience after I left the establishment that the prepared food item was "double fried" leftover food from yesterday re-fried. It was horrible. I would of brought it back but I was too far away & the service I rec'd just made the decision not to come back. Sad, because we have athletic events in the area and this establishment would/is a major quick stop. I had my staff state experiences with this store but ignored their complaints. Maybe I should of listened instead of going in with mind free blinders. I proceeded to check out. The clerk at the register was sooo nice to everyone(locals). When I came up the air atmosphere changed to non positive. An item was priced incorrectly. So I decided to not take the item. Clerk expressed a "grunt". Then I asked for a breakdown of the cash back I requested. Another "grunt". I left the establishment feeling very disappointed in the service I just received. I checked my app & returned to advised my product was part of a sale. Another "grunt". Now the manager was called, informed this is Vons but Pavillion. Gave me the product at a "on time" honor. The clerk advised the manager abruptly "thank you for taking care of the matter". We walked from La Jolla Cove Hotel and Suites to VONS/PAVILLIONS. Nice to have such a full store so close by. A real cost savings. The store has lots of variety including ready to eat foods. Pavillions will be one of the first places we visit each time we stay in the area. Cheers! read more

I have lived in La Jolla and shopped at this store for over 50 years. 50 years ago it was a small town and very friendly. My parents shopped in the store even prior to that. The prices at the store within the last year have doubled or tripled. I'm not sure if it was because of the change of name or because they've decided to market to tourists with their products. I understand also, that the clientele in La Jolla can be quite difficult to deal with. I am not. As I am checking out, the checker doesn't even look at me talk to me and the person bagging my groceries is disrespectful to me I make a point of thanking them And they just look the other way and treat me like I am nonexistent. I'm not sure if it is just the way the world is now or things are changing in my hometown, but it's very saddening and disappointing. Let's show some love people! read more
