Want to bring to the manager's attention that a cashier lady named Rosa scans fruits and veggies by removing them out of the bag with her dirty hands (with which she touches cash all day), and then putting it back into the bag. I've never seen anything like this. I know people touch them when they shop, but this is just so unnecessary and unsanitary. Ralph's is great for general grocery shopping! The staff are friendly and helpful, you can choose either self checkout or traditional cashiers, and paying for your purchases is a smooth process. The LJ location has a very large inventory, including substantial organic items, including fresh produce. They also have a florist service, a Starbucks, and a post office and dry cleaning service inside the store !! I gave 4 stars, because delivery from the Ralph's app was subpar. It seems every time I ordered for delivery, several of my requests were "unavailable", and when I went to the store in person later the same day, I was able to find the product. Also, I received some conventional produce when I ordered organic. So I don't order for delivery anymore, and it's no longer a problem. Not a deal breaker, and I still shop there often. read more

The pharmacist tells me my insurance will not approve a flu shot. Cost was $30 My wife went to CVS and it was free under our plan. When I went back to see if they could correct it, they took my info and called me later in the day to tell me that they are not equipped to process it because they are not a "clinic" Then, they tell me that the pharmacist "told me to go to my doctor. That is utter BS and they should have been a bit more thoughtful. Poor business decision not refunding me the lousy $30 bucks because I will use CCS exclusively. read more

Okay, normally, would not even think about complaining during all this Covid nonsense. I know pretty much everyone is suffering and trying their hardest, but this grocery store just isn't cutting it. A bunch of things went wrong. They don't sanitize their carts, okay, not used to seeing this but I'll roll with it. Went to the Kosher deli counter where I used to get a cucumber salad that they make. I was informed they only make it now on Fridays. Okay, I get it. Boyfriend went to get some Chicken at the hot food counter, and asked the lady bagging it if he could see how much she put in the bag to see if he needed to buy more, and she was super rude to him. He just wanted to look in the bag, but she made a big deal, dumped them out in a plastic container and said "SEE!" Okay, so maybe she's having a bad day, it happens. The aisles have changed drastically at this store and weird combos are lumped together, again, oh well. Get up to the checkout lane, and my boyfriend and I usually ask them to subtotal my food so I can give him the cash. The cashier informed me that they don't do that there. Okay, whatever, I paid for mine with cash, and was then informed they don't give back change. Yes, I have heard of the coin shortage but I've gone to about 20 stores around town, and they all have change. At this point the cashier was rude and pointed to the sign that says they no longer give change. Hmm... Okay So, we brought our own bags this time because everywhere else is letting you bring bags back in. They told me that they couldn't use my bags, and neither could I. I need to wait to bag my stuff out in the parking lot? Huh? Now, I'm getting a little ticked, and I mentioned to my boyfriend that I think we will just stick to Vons from now on. The bagger apologized and I said, hey, it's not your fault at all, seems like Ralph's is really having issues, and under her breath the cashier says, it sure seems like your blaming us. My boyfriend had to hold back replying, because honestly, we weren't being rude at all, we just made an observation that Ralph's has really gone downhill. Bottom line, we usually shop at Pavillions & Vons because they are closer. Sometimes we go to Ralphs in Del Mar. I used to really like the La Jolla Ralph's, but based on today's trip, I will stick with Vons. Seems like a lot of people on here are feeling the same way. read more

In the store 7/9/2020. I was completely ignored by the butcher because he was on the phone. After a lengthy wait he waited on me. There was no price on the item that I wanted and all that I needed was a price. If that wasn't rude enough, after he waited on me he turned to another employee and out of earshot made some remarks...I heard "phone, wait." Very poor service and very rude. If you are traveling to La Jolla and want Kosher food and Hot Kosher food, this is the place to shop. It is a large supermarket that carries everything you would expect, plus Kosher deil and bakery goods. The hot Kosher counter closes at 7:00. Hot dogs and hamburgers there arfe quite good. read more

The prices at this Ralphs are much better than any grocery store in La Jolla. They keep their checkout lines well staffed, so rarely do we wait in line for too long. They enforce the service animals only regulation. Most of the employees have been friendly. Keep in mind that this location often gets busy due to its proximity to UCSD. The parking lot is very busy! Also remember to bring your reusable bags (I believe they still give you 5 points per bag which you can use to get discounts on gas at Shell). They will send you coupons for things you buy regularly (if you remember to bring them!). read more

Besides Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, this is by far my favorite grocery store in San Diego. The La Jolla location of Ralph's has done a wonderful job supplying grocery options to meet the demand of the local demographic. Although I am a secular person, I greatly appreciate the extensiveness of the kosher section because many of the offerings in this area are also part of Russian cuisine. As a Ukrainian, I am extremely pleased with Ralph's for providing the opportunity to be able to purchase delicious food native to my birth place; some of which is even unavailable at Continent European Deli in UTC. Some of my favorite Russian foods in this section include, the potato pancakes (ie, "deruny" or "latke"); filled crepes (ie, "blintze") with a variety of filling options, such as cherry, blueberry, etc.; buckwheat (ie, 'kasha"); and my favorite Russian condiment, horseradish with beets. Unlike numerous national chains, other than Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, this Ralph's carries my current favorite hefe, Fransizkaner. The supply of chilled 6-packs of this beer is a major convenience during the late evening when Whole Foods, BevMo, etc. are closed. This location of Ralph's also offers a variety of appetizing Asian foods. One of favorite Asian options at this Ralph's is Korean bbq sauce. Although this Ralph's has fewer varieties of Korean bbq sauce than Zion Market, etc., I prefer this grocery store because it is in a more convenient location for me. The recent renovations have made the store more aesthetically pleasing and help create a more pleasant shopping experience. In addition, the kosher section has been expanded to include a kosher deli, although I have yet to try it. It appears the frozen yogurt shop, Golden Spoon, which is located inside the Ralph's, is popular among the patrons of this grocery store, especially the UCSD students. Also, the fact that this grocery store is open 24 hours is a major benefit for those living nearby. Lastly, the lines are reasonable and tend to move quickly at the self-checkout stands. The quick pace at checkout makes shopping at this Ralph's much less time consuming than the nearby Vons in the La Jolla Colony area next to the Mormon temple, which tends to have lengthy queues and has yet to offer self-check out stands. read more

I love this store for 3 great reasons, the pharmacy, the organic produce and the kitchen/housewares department. They are my favorite pharmacy (24 hour) because of great customer service, they take the initiate and are happy to contact the insurance companies and doctors multiple times to get something approved, they are super friendly, extremely informative, and there's never a long line. Even though I'm in the village of La Jolla every day, I'd rather make a special trip to Ralphs up the hill to pick up my prescriptions and shop for all three and more reasons. Another thing I love about this store is the large amount of organic produce. I can pretty much find everything I need for a family of 8 here instead of going to several other stores which have much smaller and inferior organic options. The third and most fun reason I love this store is for their kitchen/housewares department. They do an amazing job here. It's like visiting a retail store with so many wonderful things to buy and they all go on sale after a period of time, even go to clearance at 70% off. I have bought beautiful Italian country platters and serving dishes for half the regular price, lemonade and water dispensers, creative reusable water bottles, large, the way I like them, decorative coffee mugs, and more recently, a Cuisinart hand blender that I got for 70% off. The person in charge of this department is Paola and she's just lovely. Just walking by this department and lo king at everything brings me happiness and is very calming. Another bonus is the gas discounts I have gotten all over the state based on my purchase amounts. Plus they are next to a Trader Joe's which is another plus for any specialty items Ralphs doesn't have. read more

The Ralphs at this location is great. As with many other locations, it's open 24/7, but what makes the shopping experience further enjoyable and convenient is the cleanliness, general helpfulness of staff, and most of all the great variety and quantity of goods. There's even a large aisle dedicated to ethnic food, where you can find goods like taro mochi, Marmite, Ramune soda, Indonesian ramen, pandan pastries, and chrysanthemum quenchers. There's also an impressively large section for home goods, which makes it additionally convenient as as one-stop shop. Let's also not forget the two lounge areas with free wifi. My only complaint is that parking can be annoying during peak hours. P.S. The sushi here, even if less varied, is much better than Mitsuwa's. The vendor Ralphs partners make sushi daily before lunch, and if you know sushi, you know that freshness plays a large role in taste. If you buy their sushi in the evening, it will taste stale. read more

This is my favorite grocery store in San Diego because it's huge, has just about everything, fresh produce, friendly service, clean & organized & really close to where I live. :) Something that never ceases to amuse me is when I walk down any of the frozen food/dessert aisles...each censored door lights up as I walk by. hahahha I love it!! :D I also love that there is an entire looooong aisle of ALL desserts/ice cream. :-9 No other grocery store I've ever been to compares. :D It's also really great that this store is open 24 hrs & I've seen many ppl take advantage of their free wi-fi & they even have a great sized seating area to use internet & hang out or study. The only thing I hate about this place is the parking lot. omgoodness....worst parking ever. Whoever designed it, wants us all to crash & scrape up each other's car. No Lies! 5/5/2013 - it's raining today and they didn't have any "caution wet floor" signs. No one mopped all the water in the front of the entrance (right next to the Golden Spoon). I slipped and FELL. A girl from Golden Spoon asked me if I was okay. I got up slowly, but fortunately didn't fall on my tailbone. After I got up and dusted myself, an employee came by to mop. Wow, an actual Ralph's employee didn't even bother to check on me. RUDE. Someone can get seriously hurt here - what if an elderly or vision-impaired person with a cane came in and slipped?! Glad I've always preferred to shop at Trader Joe's - this just compels me avoid any Ralph's. I wouldn't be surprised if a lawsuit happens with them in the future regarding this. No signs and no full carpet (half doesn't count) to prevent slippage is DANGEROUS. read more

This Ralphs is huge. It has a Starbucks and a Golden Spoon inside. It's layout is a little awkward. One thing that makes no sense is where the fresh pasta is located. .. It's tucked away past the produce near the stock doors. Parking is such a pain here too, but I'm glad that I can usually find what I need here. I find Ralph's returns system or management disgusting. I bought a lot of cups at Starbucks in Ralphs for Christmas, but some people didn't want those mugs as gifts. So I return it within 30 days. When I bought it, I was worried that some people might not like the cup. I also asked if I could return it, and staff told me I could. When I went there for the first time, they said that you bought it with a Starbucks gift card, not cash or a bank card, and they would not refund it. They asked me to go to Starbucks company and Starbucks company asked me to go to Ralphs, and Starbucks company said that if I bought it at Ralphs, I should go to them to return it. In this way, Ralphs and Starbucks company pushed each other two or three times. They said I was looking for a store manager. The second time I went there, I still couldn't find the store manager. And the employee Alisa also said the same thing, and didn't tell me when the store manager was free. I can only call from 5 o'clock the next day. I wasted several days and selected 5 times in different time periods, and finally got on the phone with store manager ray. It was the same rhetoric. I explained to him that I had called the management of Starbucks, and they said that the things purchased at Ralphs should be returned at Ralphs. I said that Starbucks of target and vons can be refunded directly when I used by Starbucks gift card on Starbucks APP，why not Ralphs. He directly said that the person who returned your cups should be fired, and hung up on me directly. I don't understand that you support the use of Starbucks gift cards to buy things at Starbucks in ralphs but you don't support returning things. I said that the refund method can be a Starbucks gift card, so the store manger disagrees. I don't come here often because the parking lot is HORRENDOUS, so when I came to get lunch today, I was extremely surprised because..... it's been remodeled!! :) it's not a huge change, but the store definitely feels a lot bigger. Also, Wells Fargo has been moved to the middle front of the store and Golden Spoon has been moved right next to the door closer to Chipotle. There was also a HUGE amount of workers scattered throughout the store. So huge that I bumped into at least five trying to walk through the store. It was a little ridiculous... The only reason there is two stars, not just the obligatory one, is for the golden spoon and the wells fargo. Other than that, this place totally blows. Oh and also, the bathroom is gross. Even more so when you consider the location. I feel really bad for the employees, hopefully they have their own potty. The stalls are also really small, you know the kind where you have to straddle the toilet just because the door barely clears it? Ever since Ralphs remodeled and built in the lounge area near the pharmacy, this has become a legit place to study. Did you ever have a desire to study inside a giant pantry full of cookies, chips, drinks, and pudding? Indulge yourself and study at Ralphs! There's free wifi, and you don't have to buy anything. You've probably wanted to study somewhere outside the house but didn't feel like buying coffee for tea just for the pleasure of sitting inside a cafe. The chairs are overstuffed and pretty comfy with lots of tables and ottomans. Here's a secret, open the end tables with the lamps on them for tissues (or a secrete note I left behind). Cons: the parking lot is insane, people might look at you weird, and no fresh hot coffee. read more

This store is always clean and neat. Close grocery store to work so I am here quite often. They did a good job with the remodel and I like the new floor plan. I only ever use self checkout and have never had any issues. Only thing I don't like is the new entrance with the turnstiles. You have to stand and wait if someone is going slow talking on their phone being oblivious to the people waiting to enter behind them. Really clogs up the entrance at times. read more

It's sad to say that a grocery store might be the best study spot in all of the UTC/La Jolla area, but what a grocery store this is. Free wi-fi, open 24 hours, two areas to hang out (one with nice leatheresque charis, another with tables that are good for group studying), plenty of wall outlets to plug your laptop into, and a nice array of options for quick eats including a coffee bean and tea leaf (alas only open until 8) and a golden spoon yogurt (open later). Plus, they don't seem to care if you just walk in and do work without buying anything, although being in a grocery store means you can buy a 2-liter if that suits your purpose and just bring a cup of ice. In fact, they'll give you a cup of ice for free if you ask while the deli's open (did I mention they have a deli too if you really want fried chicken/wings?). Also, they actually have a small (out of the way, ideal for someone stealing wheels) area for bike parking, which is more than a lot of other institutions in UTC have. Parking for cars sucks, but that's just a fact of life here in San Diego it seems. More annoying is that they tend to get really busy around midnight when they go to self-checkout-only and half their self-checkout stations magically shutdown, but it's not too bad usually (and the lines move faster than the ones at the CVS across the way). They also have killer monster sandwiches for $3.99 which are extremely filling and always available. Prices in general seem to be a bit inflated, but they do have good sale prices so I usually end up buying whatever's cheap during that week. At one point, they were selling 12-packs of Newcastle and Heineken for $8.99, then the next week doubled in price for some reason, so I was glad I loaded up when they were cheap. Overall, one of the most useful multipurpose shopping/studying options in all of UTC. read more

The grocery store itself is just like any other Ralphs. The prices range in the middle compared to other grocery stores. If you are frugal/ broke student, you should pay attention to the weekly ads. They are pretty good, especially for produce! I've gotten strawberries for 88 cents before. I also go to Ralphs for their amazing and very convenient rotisserie chicken! They have the "regular," BBQ, and lemon flavored chicken. Normally, I hate dry chicken breast, but they manage to keep the entire chicken pretty moist. Do NOT get their overpriced sushi. I am a bit of a sushi nut, but I would not eat their sushi. It's insanely expensive and really... just not that good. That's all I have to say about that. I used to like Ralphs bakery, but I feel like the quality has gone down. the sweet baked goods are okay, and their "for your health" sugar-free series is also just okay. Their bagged bagels are very stiff, and their french breads are stale even when they are "freshly made." I like their garlic bread though, and it's nice to be able to just pop it in the oven for a nice, warm crispy garlic bread. The main reason for the 3-star rating rather than something higher is the migraine-inducing parking lot. The flow is awful, spaces are cramped, and you are almost definitely going to leave the lot with new dings in your car. Park at your own risk!!!! read more

The only bad part about this store is the parking lot, and that's so bad that I took away 2 stars. Look at the Facebook group against that parking lot if you want a laugh. I swear whoever designed it has some secret cameras set up everywhere and laughs their ass off everyday. Other than that, I actually drive out of my way to come here as opposed to the Vons down the street from my condo. They actually sell filo dough here, and they have the best candy aisle out of any grocery store :) Best part: they're open 24hrs! When you're studying for all your finals, each worth 60% of your grade in the class, two weeks after you pulled a couple of all-nighters for the respective midterms, there's no better place to buy a couple of 4-packs of espresso double shots at 3am.
