Coffee is now ubiquitous with daily life in America, which brings me to Qamaria Coffee. Hatem and Munif are two Yemeni entrepreneurs with a passion for Yemeni Coffee and the joint goal of wanting to share it with the world. They founded Qamaria Coffee in 2019 to accomplish this task and in January 2024, they opened a location near Milwaukee in Greenfield, WI. Qamaria offers a variety of dessert options, including a Chocolate Tres Leches, Pistachio Tres Leches, and Caramel Tres Leches cakes. I went with the caramel version, which is described by the cafe as "A decadent caramel treat inspired by tres leches cake, creamy, sweet, and irresistibly smooth". If you've never had Tres Leches Cake, it's a light sponge cake soaked in three types of milk (evaporated, condensed, and whole) that's popular in Latin America. The cake originated in Nicaragua during the 19th century, so on first glance it's not exactly a Yemeni dessert. Doing some research, Middle Eastern variations exist that feature cardamom or rose water and some Qamaria locations do have a Rose Tres Leches. It's fine that the Greenfield location did not have that variety as I honestly would have got the caramel version anyway. My slice was perfectly moist as there was plenty of milk soaked in, but not so much that it made a mess or compromised the structure of the cake. The bottom layer was soft and Tiramisu-like in texture, while the cream on top was rich and thick. Personally, I found the caramel flavor to be mild, but delicious. As it is served chilled, it paired nicely with a hot cup of coffee (which they have a plethora of options to choose from). Doughboy approved Doughboy_Food_Reviews

There are a couple of basic small café tables out front. Inside is a large space that is brightly lit through the plate glass windows. There are tables set up throughout, mainly for couples, but they could be combined for larger groups. There are also stools at the counter for seating. There wasn't anyone else in the place when I arrived, so it was very quiet. Got greeted by the friendly cashier/barista. I wanted to get a London Fog Tea Latte, but they were out of Earl Grey, so I ordered a Chai Latte instead. They didn't have a scone, but the cinnamon roll with icing looked pretty good too. Offered to warm it up, and I said definitely yes. It took a few minutes for the drink to be ready, which means they let the tea steep properly. When it got delivered to my table, I was pleasantly surprised by the latte art in the foam. I have never had a barista give me that special treatment and was thankful. The cinnamon roll was warm, gooey, and delicious. Definitely a place that I would return to.

I love sandwiches and knew I had to try the pastrami. It was fantastic. I've been trying to cut back on caffeine and I instead went with one of their refreshers on the menu. It was I believe and 'Blue and Grapefruit' - and that wasn't my favorite as someone who doesn't really care for grapefruit that much. I got it thinking it would be diluted a bit, SO, if you like grapefruit, I'm sure it's perfect for you. I also got a peanut butter oreo pie and wish I took a picture of it...but I devoured it too quick to even think about it. For me, that dessert was the definite highlight of the cafe. I'll definitely come back on more weekends when I have a craving for pastrami.

I ordered a London Fog Tea Latte, with a little lavender and a little vanilla, in a mug. The barista did a nice job and gave the tea a good long steep. It had excellent flavor, and the temperature was right (about 140°F). It would have been even better with a bit more foam on top. For bakery items, they had a big pile of large cookies (cowboy?), but not much else. The food menu is a little sparse but has some good options for breakfast or lunch sandwiches. I ordered a Cubano sandwich, which turned out to be an excellent choice. It came out hot, with nicely grilled bread and savory meats inside. The roasted pork was especially tender and flavorful. It came with a small container of slaw, which was a little uninspiring. Service: The person who took my order and made my drink did a nice job. She took her time and did a good job with the drink. I appreciated that they delivered both the drink and the food to the table. She was a bit soft-spoken and a little hard to hear with the music playing. Efficient, but not especially outgoing. Atmosphere: The space has a bit of an industrial minimalist feel. High ceilings with the mechanicals in plain sight, along with colorful paint and design elements. Seating can accommodate groups of different sizes, though there aren't too many spots ideal for couples. The space can be a bit echoey, and the volume of the music could make conversation challenging at times. It's a nice spot for groups to hang out, and there was a larger table where people were working and collaborating. A decent spot for hanging out at lunch or later in the afternoon.

When I first pulled up to the building it was 7:30am, and they were open. But the windows somehow made it look dark inside, and I literally had to put my nose to the glass to see any activity. Otherwise I might have thought they were closed and kept going (special glass that cuts down glare inside?). Once inside there are several different areas for seating; the bar with stools, the front windows ledge with more stools, or the center area that has larger tables for various size groups. Lots of natural light from the front windows. The interior design, is a bit industrial, well lit, and welcoming. Things were neat and clean. Inside there was a short line to the counter which was right ahead. Took a few minutes to arrive at counter and order. Got a pleasant greeting and help with the order. I ordered the usual London Fog Tea Latte (little lavender, little vanilla, and extra foam). They didn't have much in the way of pastries/bakery. They were out of the Coffee Cake, but suggested the Apple Galette supplied by Miss Molly Bakery. They don't have the ability to warm up the bakery, which was a little disappointment. They took their time steeping the tea, which is a good thing. It came with a nice head of foam, had great flavor, and was the right temperature (148F). Texture-wise it could have been a little creamier. The Apple Galette was amazing. The crust was flakey and nicely sprinkled with course sugar. The apples had great flavor and were moist. The atmosphere was relaxed and most people were having quiet conversations. There's a very chill cat (Sugar) roaming around the place, and occasionally keeping people company. Not my favorite, but definitely a place that I would return to.

The food and service has always been good. Today, we ordered Chilaquiles with Carnitas added in a verde salsa, Corned Beef Hash, and sides of hashbrowns and 2 pancakes (instead of toast). The Chilaquiles were very good and the over easy eggs were perfect. The carnitas were tender and nicely seasoned. The housemade corned beef cubes were tender and the diced pan fried potatoes had a nice latin seasoning blend. I just wish the hash had diced bell peppers and onions. I also wish the poached eggs I asked for with the corned beef hash were cooked properly. I was expecting the type of poached eggs that are like small balloons waiting to be popped so the egg yolk oozes out over the corned beef hash. These poached eggs were over-cooked and looked un-appetizing, but tasted fine. The hashbrowns were perfect - crispy and tender and properly seasoned! The side of pancakes were fluffy and absorbed the syrup quickly. Overall a good visit. The food was mostly on point, except for the disappointing poached eggs and lack of onions and bell peppers often found in a hash. If I go back, I'll stay away from their benedicts (since poached eggs are not executed correctly, and corned beef hash, and instead stick with the Chilaquiles.
