Saw the hype about Raku's new AYCE sushi deal on social media, so went to check them out during a weekday lunch ($21.99). My group was the only ones here during all of lunch hour, so I was a little worried at first. There was only one server and she was also working the front desk as well. The menu was difficult to navigate as the items on their buffet menu did not have descriptions, but their al a carte and online menu did, so we had to cross reference menus to know exactly what was in each roll. Orders were taken quickly but the food came out a little slow; I wonder if they had much fewer cooks working for how slow their lunch hours were. Nonetheless, the food did arrive and what was missed in speed was made up for in quality. I didn't take many pictures since the I was so hungry while waiting for the food, but the one I did take was of the Snow Thrill roll, which had 3 different kinds of fish in it (just check out the amount of fish in that thing!!). Nigiri was solid and the rice was properly sushi vinegar'd. A couple other solid picks were the salmon tartar and gyoza. Dessert options are plentiful, but they didn't have some of the items listed on the menu like certain flavors of the mochi ice cream. If you're okay with a little bit of a wait, I would recommend trying this place out. Probably in my top 3 in terms of the quality of sushi in MN. read more

Good contemporary decor with a friendly service and topped off with great sushi! This is a great place for a first date, a family dinner, or even a business meeting as the place is relatively quiet or low volume even when packed! That's quite surprising so they probably have good acoustics or the people are just scared to talk loud since it's a nice place! Nice Japanese restaurant with an ayce option for lunch and dinner . Lunch is $21.99 and I believe dinner is $31.99. Definitely worth a try. The inside is decently spacious . My only concern is that they only had one server when we came for lunch and the poor girl was running around like crazy . So their ayce lunch option is what I tried and they had a few items I haven't seen at any other ayce locations. This includes spicy tuna eggplant, which is pretty good but it's deep fried. Green Dragon roll which includes avocado and eel. I enjoyed that a lot. I also enjoyed the fried matcha ice cream at the end of my meal. Decided to try out Raku AYCE sushi for lunch because local sushi palaces nearby have increased their prices significantly. Raku is still reasonable for lunch at $21.99. My party was the only one inside on a Tuesday. It was more fancy than I thought. I didn't have high expectations based on current Yelp review, but I was pleasantly surprise with the food quality. The only downside was that menu was a bit hard to navigate because there's no description of the sushi rolls. I had to use an online menu to know what's in what. However, the sushi was really good and they do not skimp! Each roll was filled with fish. The appetizers were also good. Service was a bit on the slower side, especially for us to be the only party there. However, they were super nice and accomodating. Highly recommend to try this place out. read more

Worst AYCE Experience. More like ALL YOU CAN WAIT! Only one server for the entire restaurant -- expect very long wait times. We were seated and it took about 40 minutes just to get our drinks, and another 30 minutes before we could even place our first order. After that, it took another 30 minutes just to put in a second order. On top of that, there was no mention on the menu that an 18% gratuity is automatically added to the bill. We were only a party of 3. With the automatic gratuity, it felt like the server didn't need to be attentive because she knew she was getting tip regardless. I even pointed that out and asked if they really thought they deserved the tip -- she did remove the tip after i complained. The audacity to tip herself even when she knows her service is poor. They know if they didn't automatically include tip no one would tip because the service was gawd awful. They even know themselves they didn't deserve the tip. How can they expect to run a restaurant on a Friday night with only one server, who also had to handle checkout? The whole experience was so unpleasant that we lost our appetite, and honestly, it felt intentional -- as if they wanted customers to give up waiting and eat less. Just a heads-up to anyone planning to visit: expect excessively long wait times to place an order and get your food, automatic gratuity added, and only one overwhelmed server running the entire restaurant. I took my parents here to try the all you can eat lunch. It was very different than your typical AYCE sushi place. - When we went we were presented with the AYCE menu, along with a larger menu that we could reference for descriptions. Food: - There were limitations on how much you could order at once. I believe it was 4 nigiri, 2 rolls, 1 entree per person. The appetizers were unlimited. - Entrees are a fairly large size, so I would recommend ordering to share rather than individually - The menu is limited for the AYCE, but there is still a ton of variety that is unique and quite tasty. Service: - The food is made to order, so the quality definitely felt much higher class with a fancier presentation of the food, but due to that, it did take a bit longer to arrive. - The staff was very kind and patient with all of our questions. We even asked about when they opened, come to realize they've been around for 15ish years! Overall, I would like to come back for dinner to try out that menu. I really enjoyed the food and service. The only issues I had was how long some items took, but that could be growing pains from doing AYCE, and me being used to the other AYCE places that just pop out entire platters of food crazy fast. read more

First time here even though this place has been here for years (decades??). Here specifically for their new foray into the premium AYCE menu experience currently only available Fri-Sat for lunch or dinner. Dinner will have more items available obviously. Our waiter told us this was the first night of their debut. Hence the staff was kinda frazzled and running around like crazy. Took awhile for the host to acknowledge us and seat us. No worries, we were not bothered by that as we were too excited to try out their sushi. I hope they modify staff for these special menu nights. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the dishes and the most was outstanding dish was the yellowtail jalapeño. The meat was so buttery and the sauce perfect. Check out pics for items we tried. Amazing place to eat! I went with some coworkers who know sushi and they led me here! I tried the bigger $17 lunch deal with multiple fish options and rolls. It was all amazing. I felt full in a good way. I also realized I might eat wasabi in the white American way = ) Like with way too much on everything.... but hey I love the top front heat burn. I will be back again for another amazing lunch to try more things. I can say everything tastes amazingly fresh and the staff was great. Lots of places to sit and free parking. There was only one server managing the entire restaurant, which made it impossible for her to even refill our waters. It took nearly an hour after ordering to receive our first plate of sushi. The AYCE option is a great value in theory, but it loses its appeal when the service and wait times are this compromised. Unfortunately, this is not a restaurant I would revisit, it has definitely been overhyped on Instagram reels/ tik tok. We went to try the summer lunch AYCE special. When we visited, we were the only customers there which should have been clue #1... Somehow, service was still slow. The booth seats that we were situated on were very uncomfortable, they made you feel like you were falling forward. More importantly, the quality of every dish was very poor, I would avoid ordering the nigiri and sashimi at all costs. The best things we had were their cocktails which tasted like alcoholic starbucks refreshers and the green tea ice cream. All in all, I would not recommend visiting. I ordered two sushi rolls and crab cheese wontons from Raku through DoorDash. The products were very well packaged and arrived in good shape. The Mexican roll was excellent and had very good spice. The "one" roll was also very good but I did not care for the peppered tuna as much as some other rolls. The tempura shrimp inside the rolls were good yet the breading was a little heavy for my taste. She only stop once to take our order and she never came back, to make sure that our drinks were refill, or take away our empty plates of food that we finished eating. We ventured here for a little work gathering and it was perfect. The reservation process was seamless and our table was ready with waters even when we arrived a little before our slot time. The server placed us near the entry by the big windows which added to the sweet ambiance. Located in a pretty hip and upscale area, it certainly made for a night out. The interior lighting is dim and the space is extremely clean including the bathrooms which are very spa like. My group ordered an array of appetizers to start along with some drinks including saki bombs. What I like most about this spot is that even if you are not a sushi connoisseur, they also have other meat and veggie options. Came to Raku with some friends on a Wednesday evening for our quarterly sushi gathering and had a good time! Parking is easy with the nearby ramp. And there was a ton of availability inside! Food - 4/5 We ordered a ton of rolls and sushi to share. The food here is good. Pretty on par with other sushi spots in the metro. The menu is gigantic and rather daunting. Favorites were the Sassy Lady and the Hurricane. But honorable mention goes to the gyoza! Service - 5/5 Our server was kind and very attentive! Could be due to the restaurant being pretty empty. There were four other tables with 4-8 people. It's rather sad that such a prime location feels less than clean. I love Raku in St. Louis Park, so we were shocked at how bad the Edina location was. We ordered takeout through their website which transfers to a delivery service. The food was not ready until well over an hour, ordered after a dinner rush on a Wednesday night. When the delivery person texted us that he was waiting (he waited for 30 minutes) we had, as instructed called the restaurant to check in. First we were hung up on. Next a girl said "if you want to cancel, fine", and when we asked to speak to a manager she hung up. We tried calling back and got no answer. The food was dry, and the sushi had shell in it. I ordered some sushi via DoorDash for dinner and decided to check out Raku. I love maki combos so I opted for their salmon, spicy tuna and California roll combo. The order came with a side salad and a little container of soy sauce. The sushi was really good, I have no complaints with it. We felt bad for our waitress having her very first night working being so chaotic. Between my partner and I, we split 5 rolls: spicy tuna, yellowtail & scallion, sweet potato tempura, captain crunch specialty roll, and fire roll. I'm not sure the yellowtail & scallion rolls actually had any scallion. None were visible and we couldn't taste it either. Was hoping for more crunch on the captain crunch roll, but too much sauce (that was not described on the menu) made them seem soggy and not crunchy. The fire roll was quite an unusual combination. I liked the kimchi, but the bbq scallop gave it a strange aftertaste. My partner developed heartburn afterward. I was craving sushi one night and saw that Raku started their summer promotion for AYCE sushi that was only available in the summer. This is my first time here and I wanted to give this place a try since I had never been before. The server was veryyyyy slow to come to us with menus. Their AYCE menu also did not have descriptions on what was in the roll. This is on their normal menu so we had to ask to get their full menu to piece together what was in each roll. The quality of the sushi was also not good. My friend ate a piece of salmon and it was still frozen. The food also took about 1 hour to reach our table and the restaurant was fairly empty. I understand they might be understaffed (even for a fairly empty restaurant), but I do not think they were prepared to start AYCE service. I cannot imagine how they would've done if every table was filled. I am wondering if their quality of fish went down to serve their AYCE customers because that quality of fish for an a la carte place would be a huge rip off. Safe to say I will never be coming back to this place for sushi. read more

They were short staffed but the waitress made our time there extremely uncomfortable...we waited almost 2 hour and she only brought our appetizers...we did not receive even 1/4 of what we ordered...we had to end up leaving after we saw ppl who hadn't even been there 20 min get their food before our table. The waitress did not care or even try to apologize she would just argue with you that they were short staffed, which explained the wait, not her awful attitude. Space is mid-to-large size. There is some free street parking or parking at the ramp located behind the building. Space is nice and clean. Staff was fast and friendly. I love that their menu had large pictures which helps gives a visual of their offerings so you kind of have an idea what you are getting. I ordered a Raku Cosmo which was tasty and refreshing. Also ordered a snow thrill sushi roll, sun kiss sushi roll and some roasted mussels. The sushi rolls were all fresh and delicious! The roasted mussels (set of 4) with mayo...so yummy! Snow thrill sushi roll as listed on their menu: Tuna, salmon, yellowtail and avocado inside, topped with crunch flakes, served with spicy mayo and eel sauce. I was pleasantly surprised at this place! I hadn't heard super great things from my friends and family about it, so this place never came to mind until a friend and I were craving sushi in the area. I took a look at yelp and saw that this could be an option. We went at around 6pm on a Tuesday and it was shockingly quiet in the restaurant. I even felt stupid for calling to make a reservation because I thought it would be busy. I ordered a salad and it was bigger than I expected, but very plain, not even a tomato or onion on it at all. Just lettuce and ginger dressing - but still good! I also ordered a roll with tuna, cucumber and APPLE! I've never had a sushi roll with apples in it, but honestly it was a nice touch and added delicious flavor. I'd for sure order it again in the future. I also ordered a tuna roll with cream cheese, but as you can see in the picture, the tuna/cream cheese ratio was WAY OFF. Gross. I had to open each piece and pick out 90% of the cream cheese. Food: The food was delicious! I tried the duck rolls which were crispy, tasty and generously filled. They were served with a tangy sweet sauce. I got the Hurricane Roll with Spicy Crab instead of Spicy Tuna and it was incredible. Everything was fresh, filling and delicious. Service: The only thing that was a little less than 100% was the service. It wasn't bad so much as it was hands off. We didn't see our waitress besides when she took our order and brought the food. I also didn't receive a side of sauce I asked for. Nothing terrible, just could've been a bit better. Overall, the two dishes I ordered were delicious! Accessible, fun, upscale area, with upscale design & ambiance. This is a rare gem of a restaurant. I suspect the beautiful folds of drapery and stretched fabric sailing on the ceiling along with segmented areas for tables, booths and bar allows for intimate conversations without having to yell at each other like most other restaurants. Beautiful memories can happen here. The food is wonderful and beautifully presented. The best part for me is that... unlike most other restaurants practicing "vegan-shaming", vegans are welcomed here! and not only free of shaming but are honored and can find many delicious options. Vegans are not prone to complain, but I'll just say that sadly that's a scarce resource even in 2024. For lunch, my friend had "crazy chicken" and I had cucumber and avocado rolls. Ordered pick up for three from their website on the early side of a Tuesday evening, meaning to say not a busy time. One of the orders was the "Marine Sashimi" which turned out to be the "Marine Sushi." Not the end of the world. Called to let them know since there's a price disparity. Guy who took my ordered said he'd adjust which was most appreciated. But, no "sorry," or even an inkling of how can we make this better. But the main thing is it wasn't very good. No, it was borderline bad. Salmon had zero marbling--almost looked like orange Play-Doh. Rice was dry and not hint of vinegar. The obligatory spicy tuna roll was slapped together. (And also, for the price point, no miso soup included?) I know there aren't a lot of strong sushi options in the Twin Cities, let alone the suburbs, but I won't be going back to Raku. read more

To sum it up: food was ok and service was slow I wanted to try this place due to all the hype I saw on TikTok and Instagram around their AYCE sushi promotion, and also because I had family coming into town. I called a few days earlier to make a reservation for Friday, June 28th, at 7 p.m. for 4 people. The person on the phone informed me that a reservation wouldn't be needed and that we could just walk in and be seated immediately because it's not busy around 7 p.m. I hesitated and still asked to make a reservation, just in case.  Day of: We arrived early to make it for our 7 p.m. reservation, but there was a line to even get up to the host desk. Some of the people waiting were waiting for takeout/delivery orders, but it took a while for the host to even acknowledge any of us standing there. We didn't get seated until 7:45 p.m. Then we had to wait another 45 minutes until the waiter came by to take our order, and then we waited a whole hour until our first order of food came out. At that point, I was calling Ichiban about 10 minutes away to see if they had a wait time because we were too hungry to keep waiting for food and were just about to walk out. Just as we were about to leave, food came out, so we decided to stay. Hours for Friday are 11:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m., but the waiter informed us the kitchen closes at 8:30 and we'd be good. He recommended we go ahead and put in our next order now so we won't have to wait so long, but it took about an hour to get our second order out too.  Other things: - They had a drink menu available, but only two of the drinks were available for purchase. Saw the owner rush out to purchase alcohol to make the drink we ordered. - Not all the items on the AYCE menu were available for purchase the night we were there. - Automatic gratuity was already included in the bill (there was only 4 of us) Wouldn't recommend if you don't have the patience to wait. read more
