Solid restaurant in a somewhat hidden location on the second floor. Some of the best food presentation I've seen in a while. Also if you order a teishoku dish, the portions are huge. Unlimited rice refills. Massive sake menu. Cool atmosphere, relatively large restaurant. I was really surprised by how good the food at this place turned out to be. Hidden gem in kits for sure! read more

The Unagi Don is so tasty. The Uni so fresh and sweet, not smelled at all. Drink is also good, we had Yuzu soda and plum wine, Raisu always gives us surprise! read more

Worst service ever from a lady who is a seater. First time writing a review on yelp after 8 years of using yelp. Call in, they told us to walk in becuz they have a seat for us. We came in and waited and we saw there were seats in the bar. The lady told us to "back off" becuz we don't have reservation. So we waited 20 more min. The lady kept helping other people and ignore us. So I asked her how long will we have to wait until we get seated (clearly there are space available in front of us) she said "DO YOU WANT TO EAT or DO YOU WANT TO GO?" Her attitude was really bad and super rude. Disappointed.NOT coming here again for sure!!! read more

If you're looking for high quality Japanese cuisine this place is a top contender! My favourites: Milky Silky Mentaiko Udon -creamy miso broth with cod roe which gives it that delicious briny flavour The Ocean's Offering -12 pieces of fresh pressed sushi handpicked for that day -only limited to 10 orders per lunch and dinner so come in early! The decor is retro with cool album art and collectables from the past but the plating is modern and service was exceptional read more

Fresh seafood and classic Japanese dishes. Their aburi sushi is quite tasty, but definitely different compared to Green Leaf, Miku, Minami, etc. The crab udon and ebi mayo was tasty as well. The atmosphere was fun as well, considering that we were greeted by the whole restaurant when we came in as well as when we left. read more

Great Japanese restaurant in Vancouver! A little off the beaten trail, outside of the main downtown area. This place is a little high end, but worth it. Very creative dishes done in very fancy ways. Large selection of items including lots of sushi varieties, ramen, izakaya like appetizer dishes, and lots of cooked Japanese food. Very good quality food. Good desserts too. read more

Nice place, good service, beautiful food decoration and presentation. The reason for 4 stars not 5 is because of the variety. Really don't have too many choices and we arrived at 6pm, some popular dishes already sold out. The deluxe sushi don looked very impressive but the sushi rice was not. I thought it was us that left most of the rice but in fact we noticed that lots of asian customers ate the sushi and left the rice. Make reservation well ahead is recommended, good place to celebrate birthday with friends (the waitresses team up and sing happy birthday). Plan to arrive earlier if you drive cause no customer parking and finding a spot around is not easy. read more

Terrible management and staff service. Won't recommend this restaurant to any friends if they plan any special events. I'd made reservations for a small birthday party of 3 ppl and the staff told us about their 1.5hrs dining. I agreed. When we arrived, a table of 3 ppl next to us came the same time. As the hour past, our server came to remind us that we have 30mins left for dining. I politely acknowledged and was very cooperative. I noticed the table next to us finished their dinner before us and was never reminded. 5 mins later, our server returned and hurried us to choose our dessert while we were finishing the last bit of our meal. We put in one order due to the time constraint. 5 mins later again, the servers rushed out with the dessert and began singing the birthday song! We were still finishing the last part of our meal and the dessert shoved on our table! What is most disappointing was our server kept coming back a total of 6X (every 5 mins interval) interrupting us about the time limit. The table next to us was never reminded and they sat comfortably without being harassed every 5mins! By the time we left, they were still there. Simply unbelievable! If this is how the restaurant wants to run their business, they definitely will lose their customers! Won't recommend to anyone despite how good the food is. Terrible service! read more

Raisu has become my kids' favourite restaurant to my chagrin. The food is AMAZING but the price point is a little steep. Every single dish we have had is good. We love the Wagyu beef udon, tonkatsu teishoku and chicken cutlet oyako teishoku. They also LOVE the chicken karate. I would recommend making a reservation if you intend to visit. read more

My husband and I recently dined at Raisu with a couple of friends, and it did not disappoint! We were very excited to try it out, knowing that it was sister restaurants to Suika and Kingyo (which we both love). The service at Raisu was excellent and the food was delicious. A couple of our favorite dishes were the mentaiko udon and the wagyu patty meal. The mentaiko udon came in a HUGE round bowl. The bowl itself probably weighed 10 Lbs. They finished the udon off with uni on top, and it was very good. The wagyu patty was also delicious and came with a side of rice, soup and pickled veggies. We will definitely come back again! But try to make some resos beforehand if you don't want to have to wait for seating! read more

Good Japanese izakaya with great presentations! But make sure book the special dishes at least 3 days before or waiting at the door before they open, especially for their seafood compressed sushi box! read more

Servers are very friendly and nice, service was speedy and nice open space but food was just ok... we had the wagyu beef udon, creamy snow crab urchin udon, the mushroom agedashi tofu and the 3 type sashimi. Sashimi was decent but other dishes was just ok. Nothing special. Good for a date night but should not be in your bucket list if you are on a food tour. read more

(They are keep deleting my review!) Overrated reviews only by plating. Book an appointment ahead otherwise you will be seated at the bar not the tables. The host lied to me that the tables were fully booked until 9pm but until the end of my meal, so many tables were still emtpty. I rather go to other sushi restaurants and never go back to Raisu. The quality of dishes were the same like any other places and the price was too steep. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

Love this spot. Fun vibe, pretty interior. Sake flights are great, really fresh and interesting dishes with beautiful presentation.

I wanted to love this place. It was beautiful, even the dishes were nice. The staff was friendly but on the real it was overall just ok, and didn't live up to the hype for me. I think it was the dish I got, I got the gyu katsu that you cook on the stone pot and the breading fell off the katsu so fast, I like to cook and even I know if the breading just falls apart it wasn't done right. But I liked the atmosphere and vibes though, and would go back to try a better dish hopefully. read more

Great food and great customer service ! I will definitely go back, but i will not order the bento box which you need to reserve when you make the reservation on the phone. The bento box is very special, but it doesn't deserve $27 ,and the amount of food is not enough for my tummy! Beside that, the food are very delicious. read more

We ordered Sho Ka Do bento which is limited to 15 servings per lunch and dinner, so make sure you make an appointment and preorder the bento or go right when the restaurant opens. Personally, it was not my favorite. I recommend for those who want to try various new and unique tasting Japanese food all at once. Triple Cutlet Teishoku was very good, beef being the personal best. read more

Raisu - Japanese Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

WARNING! BAD service and STALE ingredients!! We arrived at 5:40, just ten mins after they opened and all the bentos and special dishes were sold out. We sat at the bar and the waiter with a red towel tied on his head kept rushing us for ordering. He came trying to take an order three times in the first five minutes we sat down despite that we had told him we needed more time. We ordered fried pork cutlet, sashimi salad, and wagyu curry beef. The pork cutlet was fantastic. The sashimi salad and the wagyu beef patty were not fresh and tasted pretty gross. When we asked for our bill and tried to pay with an iPhone. The waiter told us the machine doesn't tap and we have to show him our card. My friend accidentally touched her card with the machine and the transaction went through. The waiter definitely needs more training on customer service. The place was a huge disappointment and I just can't trust any restaurant who uses stale ingredients. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. read more

This might have been one of the worst customer service experiences I've had in a restaurant. If you are Gluten Free don't even bother coming here. The staff has no knowledge what is and isn't Gluten Free. I've been to Raisu's sister restaurants and they are all educated about what can be made Gluten Free on the menu. The Kitchen practically did not put any effort to make gluten free dishes and the waitress had to go back and forth asking the kitchen if a menu item is gluten free. We had ordered a soda and a tea and decided to not order any food and I explained to the floor manager the stressful experience and that we would like to leave instead and they gave us the bill for $5 for the drinks. Had it been me working and customers go through a stressful experience, I would have offered to give the drinks amounting to $5 as complimentary. read more

I feel very disappointed for raisu for couple reasons. The sashimi that I ordered actually came the last of my meal. The fish teishu is salmon tonight and I do believe that's one of the most dry salmon I had in vancouver. The sashimi was left unserved for at least 15mins before it's on my table. Therefore, I am enjoying the sashimi with fishy melting water inside of it. Sad!!!!!!!! For this price point!!!!! read more

LOVE THE FOOD, 2 stars knocked off bc they have this weird thing where they only sell like 10 plates and once they do they don't make them at all for the rest of the day... like do you guys sprinkle gold flakes on them? Really annoyed because they have it on their menu and it looks so good but they're always like "sorry, sold out." Anyways back to the other foods: The shrimp appetizer is an absolute gem. Spicy mayo sauce very well done! Shabu shabu beef udon was good too, very filling. Came up to about $65 after tax & tip for two people. read more

I really like this place! It is different than your typical Japanese place serving tapas. They do focus on "teishoku" which is a set menu comprising of seasonal ingredients (e.g fish etc) accompanied by small side dishes such as pickled veggies, rice, and miso soup. Dishes are presented beautifully in unique plates/bowls so it is visually very pleasing. We tried pork cutlet curry udon, tiger prawn croquettes, sashimi rice (one of their most popular items because it is so beautifully presented!), beef rice in stone bowl, and grilled fish teishoku. I really enjoyed all of them. They opened not too long ago and are quite busy so reservation is highly recommended as even on a Monday night it was packed. Service is very friendly and attentive, the wait time for food seems long...... We probably waited 30min or more to start receiving the food, I hope this will improve in the future. It is a fun place to dine out and try sitting out on the patio or sake bar. I would definitely come back to try other menus. read more

Excellent presentation of all dishes. Clean, friendly environment. Can't tell from street level as it looked small and entry was a sheet with the restaurant name. It is on the upper level and quite a lot of seating....pleasant surprise. We had the patio traditional off shoes seating. Highly recommend trying this place for a Japan feel meal. All our dishes were all delicious and fresh. read more

I went to Raisu a few days ago and honestly I will never go there again. The menu items are incredibly overpriced, the music is too loud and the service is mediocre at best. Izakayas in Japan are restaurants that offer a variety of reasonably priced dishes that promote drinking. Most of the dishes at Raisu are $15 - $40. I ordered one dish that had two prawns on it and it cost over $10. You're seriously going to charge me over $5.00 for one dinky prawn? They also charge $4.50 for sodas. If I knew they were going to charge me that much, I would have just ordered a beer. By the way, if you plan on ordering a pint of beer, don't expect to receive a regular pint as the glasses are smaller than usual. For those looking for the izakaya experience, I would suggest going to Guu or Hapa instead. I believe this restaurant is geared more towards the kids driving around in their Bentleys, Ferraris and Lambos. read more

Most memorable dining experience I've had in a long time. Very exciting menu that manages to put a wholly new spin on old favourites. Beautiful presentation, flavours and ambience. Aside from the good service, I was very happy walking out. It's overrated. Presentation is great and everything, but it was just not to my liking. The bento box was a platter pretty much. Now that I've tried it. I doubt I'd go back. However, I did see quite abit of people order their curry pork cutlet udon? Which I didn't get the chance to try. The dishes that came were nothing extravagant. By all means. I'd still recommend to try it, but just keep your hopes low. :\ sorry for the crappy review. read more

Going to this restaurant was definitely a unique experience. Everything was plated very nice and they had lots of variety. I think you pay for the experience as much as you pay for the food. As for the food itself, some things were a hit for us, some things were a miss. We ordered the sho ka do bento and we liked 8/9 elements; we really liked how you get to try a bit of everything. We also got the oceans offering sushi platter. This was nice, but we felt like it was nothing special. It did look super pretty tho! And we got the tri cutlet which we enjoyed, but again the pork cutlet was nothing special. Lastly we got the seafood kaki-agi (I think that's how you spell it). That was the big let down, would not recommend that dish. It was very dense and difficult to eat. A lot of people didn't like how this place gave them a time limit to eat their food but I didn't mind; 2 hours is plenty of time to enjoy our food and eat without feeling rushed. The server was very nice and filled our waters a lot. Cute touch of the restaurant: they have mouthwash, floss, and even pads in the washroom! I thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. read more

Went for dinner and had the Mixed Cutlet Teishoku. Service was good, food even better.

Hidden gem in kits! Amazing authentic japanese food. A bit on the pricier sife but it makes up for it in quality and quantity - portions are massive. Better than its sister restaurant Suika. Good service as well and interesting decor. Would defibitely reccomend. The donkatsu, the katsu curry, and oyako don stand out as my favs. read more

Wowed again by the Suika group. The tonkatsu was perfectly fried with flaky crisp batter and a juicy, tender middle that wasn't too dense or chewy. Ebi mayo was gigantic and the Sho Ka Do bento box was beautifully presented with an interesting variety of dishes. The wagyu beef croquette was also very tasty. Also had the refreshing plum wine sangria which was served in a massive cooler with a convenient spout. read more
