My parents have been regulars here for many years and followed them to their new location from across the street. (Rainbow Restaurant). Cozy cafe feel but large enough for a couple families with kids to be seated at tables in the middle but still room for couples at the booths around the edge. Clean, bright inviting space. Restrooms are clean. Busy but seated quickly on a Friday night. Havent had a meal here I disliked. Bread basket if you ask for it with fresh baked sweet muffins. The skillets are amazing and you will go home with leftovers! American fare but they have some Greek specialties. I had Greek roasted lemon chicken last night, done perfectly! Wait may be 30 min for that dish. Comes with large very fresh greek salad with lots of black olives and chunks of fresh feta cheese and herbs. Desert is typical diner fare, nothing special. I absolutely love this family restaurant! So many good menu items, from Julienne salads to omelettes, breakfast to dinner, I think I've had just about everything on the menu. Service is always top-notch, the people greeting you at the door are polite, always smiling, and the waitresses that take over after being seated provide more of the same. I love the omelettes here, my latest was chorizo, onion, fresh jalapeño and cheddar cheesetopped with salsa and sour cream. I live in Lombard, two towns over but grew up in Elmhurst, so I've been a fan since I was a little kid. The food here is really good and the people are really good, you should give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. Even if something wasn't right, for whatever reason, things can happen from time to time, the owner, Nick, would absolutely not let you leave the restaurant without being satisfied, he's that type of person. Lunch in Elmhurst??? If you don't want fast food, head down York road to this veteran restaurant. If you are lucky you will get Adolfo as your server. He is a great server and will remind you that certain meals get desert. He will even package it up for you. Today I had Chicken Solvaki , chicken skewers on a pita bread with lettuce, tomato and onion. This dish came with a nice Greek salad. What a great spot! The food was really good and the service was great. Very attentive. I tried their dark cherry pancakes and they were excellent. Not too sweet. I asked for my bacon to be crispy and they delivered. Been to some places recently and have asked for it crispy and I still get bacon that looks like it could oink. Go here if you want to spend $14 on 4 miniature pieces of frozen, farmed fish of unknown origins. Owner was rude and indifferent to our complaints. Mom and I wanted to do something new. We were driving past this place. Never heard of it, but the awing has BREAKFAST on it. Perfect!!! We were greeted by a friendly staff. Coffee smelled so good so I ordered one. Looked at the menu, wow, or what I would call a book! Then I saw it, something that most restaurants do not have. Savory Crepes!!! Wow, they were so good. They have been in their new location for 6 weeks. I am told it is smaller than their previous location and I have to believe that since I had never visited before. There is a small patio to the side of the building. Some street parking is available, but I suggest you drive just south of the building and you will see the public parking facility to the west. Lots of parking spaces available there. When you enter, there are 2 highly undesirable booths to your right. The rest of the seating is to your left. You have to look for the hostess area ~ it is to your right and even with the door. not a great location. In the larger seating area there is a mix of tables and booths. Capacity is not large and it is a popular place. I can only imagine that if it is crowded and you have to wait, you may be very close to a table where people are trying to enjoy their food. Certainly something for which to find a more appropriate solution. They are open for breakfast ~ lunch ~ and dinner so the menu is varied and also includes lunch and "senior" specials. Daily specials are posted on a sign near the door as you enter. Julie, our server, was delightful and attentive. Food arrived quickly and was very good and generous portions, plenty to take home for leftovers. We all ordered breakfast food, but I would certainly return to try other selections. Great new location - they used to be across the street (Rainbow Restaurant). Building is modern yet the inside still has that old family restaurant feel...but in a good way. It's typically pretty crowded (maybe even more so now as this seems slightly smaller than the precious location). Food is consistently good. I had the Lumberjack skillet and I must say, it was uhh-maze-ing! Super tasty and hefty, two very important aspects. I ordered for take out and was not disappointed. They were crumbling from the time the cook removed them from the grill. The waffle also was left in the iron too long. Waitress never came back to refill the drinks. However I noticed the tables are really on top of each other and to maximize table real estate there is no waiting area so those waiting for a table are kind of standing over those that are eating.. not pleasant. We didn't stay to sample the food. I wouldn't find that enjoyable. We found another place 5 mins away which was more pleasant. Lunch bill was $38 and some change for 2 no drinks. We spoke with the server and of course she claims the owner keeps raising the prices because his cost goes up. She stated if you come back in a few weeks everything will be increased. I said he can't keep doing this because it affects business and the server's tips, also that is not good business strategy. I explained it's not her fault and not her decision I get that. He is doing such a disservice to everyone. She told me to tell the cashier. Well, that went on deaf ears, told her as a longtime customer this is the last time I would be coming back. I worked too hard for 56 years to supplement his income. Outstanding customer service! Rainbow Café is highly recommended! Their staff is very nice, polite, and professional. They will greet you once you enter the place and even assist you until you find a seat. Their seating is plenty and big. Once you found a seat you already have on the table some of their silverware such as a spoon, fork, knife, and also glass. Very organized and well-maintained place. The managers are also ready to serve and assist some of their customers. The orders and food come quickly though the whole place is very busy. All of the staff is working so fast. I ordered some pancakes, a burrito, and also a drink. Before going out, I also ordered fries and crepes to take it home for my siblings. This place is phenomenal! If I could give them 10 stars, I would definitely give it to them! I really love this place! I can't wait to visit again and explore more of the food on the menu. The 2nd time there, I ordered the breaded pork tenderloin. Good thing the brown gravy didnt cover all the meat, when I cut it open, it was still raw.
