Elmhurts Brewing is a great spot for a few beers or some tasty food. Are these the best beers in the greater Chicagoland area? No. But they are solid beers and the food is also tasty. The place is a pretty normal brewery vibe, which is cool. It's clean and well maintained. And the staff was super cool, always checking in and making sure we were good. My lovely wife and I visited Elmhurst Brewing awhile back on a whirlwind day in the 'burbs with our drinking friends. This was the fourth establishment that we visited that day. While we had a nice time here, I wasn't totally wowed though that is not really the fault of the venue. I suppose that's what happens when you eat and drink all day. Came out to Elmhurst to work on our IL summer beer passport. We visited on a Saturday midafternoon and it was pretty quiet. Quick to get a seat and served. We tried 4 things: hard lemonade seltzer - wonderful CDL - Czech Dark Lager - good Celtic Crimson (Nitro) - good Fools Gold - golden coffee stout - tied for favorite! Lush - NEIPA - really good Vanilla Elevator - tied for favorite! They have a nice patio area but we opted for A/C. Easy, free parking about a block away on the street. Another place for good ass beer. Elmhurst Brewing is of course in Elmhurst. It's not hard to find a bar around town, but finding locally made beer is something else, and you can get it from here. Gets jam packed on weekends so look for another time to go. They also have a food menu. Beer is the main attraction. It doesn't have a humongous beer list but there's a good variety among what they have. There's of course the IPAs. Also they have some citrus flavors. We tried a few interesting ones the last time. I had the Julius Squeezer, a hazy IPA. It's about $7 for pints. This one has Citra, ID#7, and Trident hops but amazingly isn't extremely hoppy even with all these. As for the food, they have a few healthier choices. We got the Garden Salad. It's $6 for a small bowl. This is a very simple salad with a citrus hop vinaigrette, cucumbers, mixed greens, red onions, and tomatoes. Meat lovers will find more to eat. The food menu is a little expensive but pretty much in line with the nearby restaurants. Good overall brewery. It's safe for anyone to say the beer is better than the food. The food is pretty good though, if only expensive for the amount you get, so save room for the beer and only eat a few bites of whatever. read more

Came here on a Sunday for Crafts & Drafts. The overall experience was OK. It was not a welcoming atmosphere. We walked and there was a sign stating wait to be seated, the hostess did not great us, so I told her we wanted to be seated. There were many open tables! We were seated and our server was nice and friendly. We ordered some beer and cider and they were ok, nothing special. We were going to have lunch, but there was nothing on the menu that stood out for us, so we ordered cheese curds . The inside is a bit dark, nothin special!. We stumbled upon Elmhurst Brewing today and we are hooked! After a hike around Arboretum, we were in the mood for some pretzels and cheese! We did a Yelp check and Elmhurst came up. We went straight there and loved it! My husband and I both started out with flights of beer and the pretzels with beer cheese. Of the four beers I tried, the Jammies cookie stout and Cranberry Sauced where my favorites! My husband really liked the Double IPA in his flight. But he commented about the wonderful variety of hoppy beer options! The pretzel was buttery, fresh, and divine. And the cheese sauce was ooey gooey delight! On Monday night it is $5 draft beers!! What a deal! As a result, after the appetizer, I ordered the award winning Oktoberfest. It is so fantastic and perfect for a cold winter day. My husband got the coffee stout. He really enjoyed the bold coffee flavor. He also liked that it was a lot lighter than a traditional stout, so it wasn't so heavy. For our meals, I got the Spicy Pork Fried Rice and my husband got the Spicy Maple Fried Chicken Sandwich. Oh my goodness they were both divine. My fried rice was full of flavor, savory savory pork, and scrumptious broccoli. I ate the entire thing, even after I was full! My husband thought that the unique flavor combo of the spicy maple syrup fried chicken was very creative and juicy. He also loved the house pickles on the sandwich and the tots on the side were a satisfactory compliment with a perfect crunch. The prices were unbeatable, the staff were friendly/welcoming, the space was clean and welcoming, and the COVID precautions were top notch. All this to say: we LOVED our experience at Elmhurst Brewing and we cannot wait to return another Monday to try more beer and different items on the food menu! See you next time! read more

This was a nice brewpub to check out in this inviting and cozy area of Elmhurst.  I met up with a couple of ol' colleagues, and we caught up over the food and beer offerings here.  I liked their chill darkish decor and atmosphere and when I walked in, Led Zeppelin was playing, so a nice welcome.  They also have a roomy space, and a very nice and large patio, so EBC is good for groups, especially their patio in warmer weather.  A couple of families also came in and enjoyed dinner here tonight also. Overall, I go with 4 stars - I really enjoyed the food, as did my pals, but the beer offerings didn't wow and that's the main aspect that holds the rating back.  They were decent mind you, but I'm a beer snob now.  Also, it's a bit pricey here when all is said and done.  Maddy was our friendly and capable server and she put a lotta steps in for us considering all the beer orders, ha. We started with their beer cheese and pretzels which were fresh and warm and very good.  For my pub dinner, I had their EBC cheeseburger with fries ($16) and it was hearty and delicious.  Due to the current labor shortage though, no more tater tots and chicken tenders FYI, and both were popular items, and too bad!  My colleagues had the fish and chips ($17) and the breaded chicken sandwich ($15), and they both really liked also. As far as beer, I had a round tripper with 2 flights, and in between, a 16 oz serving of their Squeeze The Day DIPA (8.7% ABV).  The Squeeze The Day DIPA was my favorite here, and their beer menu is also on the IPA centric side, which I personally like. My 1st flight ($9) was: - Mountain Paradise pale ale (5.4% ABV), - Julius Squeezer IPA (6.7% ABV), - Fools Gold golden coffee stout (6.8% ABV), - Infinite Improbability DIPA (9.3% ABV). The II DIPA was also a favorite for me.   My 2nd flight ($8) was: - Break the Monotony wheat beer (7.5% ABV), - Julius Squeezer IPA (6.7% ABV), - another Julius Squeezer IPA, - My Father's Mustache nut brown ale (5.8% ABV). So, I tried many of their beers and most were like 4 star good as mentioned.  My colleagues, both certified beer snobs as well, had basically the same sentiment.  Nice place and I wouldn't object to coming back but there's a lot of brewpub competition out there, and many more still to try.   Thank you for a fun evening and best of luck EBC! read more

I really wanted to like this place. Went there on a Sunday. They were out of burgers, wings, and fish which is most of their menu. Half of their taps were being changed over so we could only order half of their beers. It took forever to get food. So yeah, kind of disappointed. read more

Have to go good cop/bad cop here. The good side..their beer menu is about 25 styles deep with another half dozen or so guest beers. And let's face it, you're comign here to drink, so from that perspective I give Elmhurst Brewing a thumbs up. I went with two different stouts during my stay, Fool's Gold and Smooth Jammies. Smooth is an oatmeal stout that didn't underwhelm me, but I had a bit higher expectations for. I'm not complaining about it either, it's decent. Fool's Gold was excellent. A gold coffee stout, this one had a flavor that was off the charts. One of the best coffee stouts I've had (and I've had hundreds). The rest of their beer menu was impressive to look through, they cover a huge range of styles here. Our friends were equally impressed with their beers as well. The food part...meh. I had the C.B.G Wrap which had less food content than the children's menu mac & cheese. No, I'm not exaggerating. Places that serve child portions to adults are automatically dinged a couple of stars for screwing their patrons. While visiting friends, we went to Elmhurst Brewing for dinner. I love the location, and I really liked the interior. Upscale, laid back, whatever you want it to be. We had a couple of flights and a couple of beers and they were all great. Our favorite was the Cranberry sauce sour and Not Far from the Tree. We also enjoyed some of their hazy IPAs which were nice and hoppy. For appetizers, we had pickle fries and pretzels and beer cheese. The pickle fries were fantastic and they came with BBQ sauce. I was skeptical, but it was great. The pretzel was fantastic, but the beer cheese wasn't out fav. For dinner, we had their maple chicken sandwich which was a good chicken sandwich. I would have liked a little more spice to it. Their tater tots were great. We also had their pork fried rice. Oh man, was it good. I went here after work with some coworkers. I really enjoyed the burger I had. It was cooked perfectly (medium-well). I liked that tots were a side option. The cheese curds were also very tasty. I love the batter they used, it tasted a lot lighter even though they are deep fried. My peach sangria bourbon cocktail was very refreshing and not overly sweet. I would definitely get again! My only piece of feedback is it's nice that they advertise gluten free options on their menu (flatbreads) yet they don't have any gluten free beers! From the outside it doesn't look that large but once inside you see the building is long with 2 floors plus outdoor seating. What stood out to me is that they have a white marble bar which makes it feel high end but yet cozy. They offer a Sunday brunch with a great selection to choose from we went with a flat bread. My coworker and I decided to check out this place since we work close by and is walking distance. The service was good and the food tasted okay. We ordered a few drinks and some appetizers and an main dish to share. Cheese curds: it was good but it was more on the oily side. Pickle fries: I was excited for this, but again it was more on the oily side and we couldn't finish it. Fried rice: we felt like this was the more decent dish, but for the amount and such, it was more on the pricey side. Overall we aren't sure if we are coming back in anytime soon. Elmhurst Brewing has one of the best patios in the suburbs! A lot of times, outdoor seating seems like an afterthought and is right by the road - not here! There's a ton of space, you don't feel crammed in, and it's not on the sidewalk lol. The food is delicious. I've never had anything that I didn't like. Well for me, it's within walking distance- so that's already a plus. I went in for their Saturday brunch and it was quiet (which was nice). I had the Brisket and eggs and it was cooked very nicely, the au jus was just right. I went with the golden coffee porter which I thought was appropriate- for my first drink of the day it was a little strong- but it was still delicious- I just didn't have a 2nd one. They've got free WiFi and an outside sitting area so I don't think anything else is needed; I've often seen groups playing games at the larger tables. Alright, I think we found a new favorite. Outdoor seating? What was that? PLENTY of outdoor seating!? This is a must-try for your next outdoor dining experience. We were trying to figure out where to enjoy some beers outside and we finally decided to visit Elmhurst Brewing. The have some solid beer options here. I tried the Julius Squeezer which is a juicy IPA and juicy it was. It was so fresh tasting I ordered another. I also tried the Strawbeery Zitrone which had a strawberry Kölsch taste. I liked this one but preferred the Julius. For food? We ordered off their Summer 2020 Menu. This menu was paperless and accessible by scanning the QR code they had on the table. Sweet idea to avoid unnecessary contact. Two words: FRIED PICKLES. You now know the first thing that you will be ordering as soon as you arrive. Close your eyes and imagine these masa battered pickle spears with a green goddess dip. Recommend x 100. Did I say I love pickles? Next, we ordered the wings. We were impressed by these. They were served hot and meaty. Each basket came with 8 crispy, fried wings and your choice of sauce. I got a sweeter BBQ sauce and I can't remember the name now but I would get it again. We also got the Pub Cheese & Pretzels to share with the table. You could tell the beer cheese was homemade and the pretzels were soft but not too soft. Our server was friendly and they had social distancing reminders throughout. They even had homemade hand sanitizer by the restrooms. I absolutely love this gem in the heart of downtown Elmhurst! They have great outdoor seating. My favorite dish are the tater tots! I think they're sooo good. Perfect for the patio. My partner and I came here this morning so they can participate in the 5k, you run in the neighborhood and get beer afterwards which is pretty cool, and I believe they do this annually. There's limited street parking out front, or you can park in the parking garage and walk a few steps over. Inside it's spacious, they serve beer, food, even wine and cocktails which is lovely -- there's something for everyone. The staff is friendly and attentive. I didn't end up ordering anything since it was like 10:30am when we arrived, I opted for breakfast. My partner enjoyed the beer, bought a shirt to commemorate the 5k and received a beer glass souvenir as part of the swag bag. My only critique is that the 5k is open road, run/walk at your own risk, and at one point my partner was lost and had to get back to the course. We're not from the neighborhood, and then the streets aren't closed etc so you can get off course even though they have signs. It's still a fun experience, and we'd definitely come back for future events and also to spend more time in the taproom. I had a nice visit to Elmhurst Brewing today. I visit small craft breweries as a hobby. This establishment appeared very clean and trendy as brewery and brewpub. My bartender quickly took my order for a flight. I was impressed with the diversity of beers available including the Imperial wit bier called Colonel Mustard that I ended up liking so much that I brought in one of my growlers so to leave with some to go. Very smooth tasting beer despite having a higher APV. I was able to find parking nearby. They had free Wi-Fi that I was able to connect to right away. Last, I was given a free brewery sticker at request for my collection. If I lived closer I'd make it a point to go regularly. I almost had an argument with two ladies about the existence of this place. I'm in Elmhurst every day and yet I've never seen this magical brewery. "You mean Beerhead?" I asked. "No, there's an actual brewery!" "You mean that weird beer garden wannabe?" "No! An actual brewery!" Well, turns out that they were right. What a nice surprise for little ol' Elmhurst. The nearest brewery I go to is More Brewing in Villa Park, which is one of my favorites. I'm glad I found this place too now. So, let's talk beer. I tried a flight but the only one that made me happy enough to buy a crowler was the Julius Squeezer, with its sexy IPA self and its tasty fruity hops. It's so refreshing, yet can surprise you at 6.1% ABV. And what goes better than a nice, cold beer than fried food? Absolutely nothing. I ordered the pickle fries and the burger. The pickle fries are unique because instead of frying slices or the entire pickle spear, they cut them down to fry-size before battering. What I did like about them was that it wasn't overly salty, but I did miss that sourness a bit. The burger was surprisingly good. I was expecting the patty to be dry, but it wasn't in the least bit. It didn't feel like it was a 1/2 lb, but that could just be me. Burger? Great. The fries that the burger came with could be improved on, if I'm being honest. Double fry those suckers! That's one of the reasons why I go to More Brewing is for the fries. But I'll be back here for more Julius Squeezer. Also, the chick working the bar? Absolutely loved her! Perfectly adequate brewery/restaurant - a good place to pop into after a visit to the Elmhurst Art museum. The beer was fine, and the cheese curds were tasty . . . it was just a little too suburban for this city mouse.
