We were in town visiting friends and the group decided to go out brewery hopping in the Geneva & St. Charles area. Entering the brewery on a Friday around 6pm it was busy but not overly crowded. Definitely had the feel of a community brewery that has local regulars there to support it. Taproom was lively and bright. Service was great top notch. The bartenders were knowledgeable about the beers and open to providing recommendations. The beer was the star of the show. A lot of offerings to choose from but I went straight to a cask conditioned porter that was fantastic. You can't find cask conditioned ales in most places. Others in our group had great things to say about the lagers and IPA's. Thanks to Art History Brewing for hosting us. We will be back for a return visit next time we are in town. Basically there's a lot of breweries in Geneva. It has tons to choose from including this. Art History Brewing is one of the many hipster ones that have sprung up everywhere. Has beers and games to play. There's lots of cheap specials. An interesting interior. It's located in a strip mall. They still manage to have a great atmosphere in spite of it though. Has quite a bit of games. It's about $7 a pint. Best one of these we had was the Good Night Bamberg. This is a Rauchbier which is rich and toasty. Get half off pints on Mondays. There's not much to eat except $2 bags of almonds and peanuts. Fun filled atmosphere. It's open every night unlike many others. There's a hipster nerdy kind of vibe, and they even have an acoustically controlled and quiet workspace, so it's a great place for both chilling and working. read more

A comfortable modern taproom serving a variety of European style lagers and North American ales. Seasonal beers are also available as well as limited snack foods. They host many weekly and monthly events and we were fortunate they had an Artisan Holiday Market on the day we went. Beers are good in flavor and most are available in 16,12,8,and 5oz pours. Open 7 days a week . Plenty of parking is available as well as a nice outdoor patio area. Beer and merch available to go as well. This is a neat little brewery, tucked into the corner of a strip mall. Food options are fairly limited, but do the job - they have a couple pretzel options that they heat behind the bar, and on busy days, they usually have a food truck parked outside. The space is fairly small, but usually a good time. read more

Time for another review of our favorite brew pub. 5 stars 3 years ago and still 5 stars. The staff is very friendly and the beer is the best. They often have styles of beer you don't see very often like a Rauchbier. Current favorite of mine is the imperial stout. Just the right amount of roast and caramel. In the warmer months they have a nice little patio with live entertainment on the weekends. You can bring food in or get something from the food trucks on the weekends. After several years of visiting the Geneva/St Charles area and trying all of the surrounding breweries (there are so many!), Art History has earned a place in our hearts as one of our favorites! First and foremost, the beer is fantastic! From excellent IPA's to really solid German style beers, to innovative and creative brews, there is something for everyone! This month has introduced the Artoberfest beer (Octoberfest) so we've been drinking that (and the Smoaktober) pretty exclusively. But we are usually big fans of their IPA's. The ambiance of the brewery is super fun. They have a big outdoor space for warmer months and a plethora of indoor seating, both at the table and bars. And yet it still has a vibe of intimacy and welcoming as a neighborhood bar! There is often live music and events going on, so there is always something to do! And they have great snacks like stuffed pretzels and a dessert dispenser. My husband likes to get cookies every visit! Prices are reasonable, the space is always clean, and the staff are always friendly, welcoming, and helpful. We also love the collaborations they do with other breweries. We always do the local IL brewery advent calendar and Art History always takes part. Plus they do taproom deals like the Artoberfest mug deal. If you get the mug you get a discount on Artoberfest refills throughout the month of September. A great deal and excuse to keep coming back! Finally, we love their art! It's very "Frank Lloyd Wright" architecture /art deco style. So cool and it stands out from many others! We love Art History Brewing and look forward to our next visit! read more

Came to this brewery and taproom for the artisan festival and found it to have a nice social vibe. I tried a cider fit for the season that was delicious. Service was friendly and quick. This is a small but mighty brewery in downtown Geneva. It's tucked away in a strip mall but has plenty of indoor and outdoor space. We've been here a few times, once for an event and another just for yucks. The beer is always delicious, bartenders are very friendly and there is plenty of other drinking options other than beer! read more

I recently ventured here with my husband. We sat outside to enjoy the lovely weather, a flight of beers, and some live music. I enjoyed several of their beers like good morning Hamburg and goodnight Munich. Their Smoaktoberfest was fantastic too!! I think the only downside of this place, no fault of their own, is really just the strip mall situation. As I've grown tired of IPAs... Art History is a breath of fresh air. I love dark beers and this is probably one of the best places in America for European style beers of all kinds. Love the Czech dark + the English Porter + always can count on them to have a top tier pilsner. A gem in the Chicago suburbs, that has something so unique that Chicago breweries do not have. This is the best beer in the Chicagoland area. Every single drink on the menu is amazing - traditional and interesting and just GOOD. I moved here from Chicago recently and don't miss the city breweries whatsoever -- because of Art History. It's in a weird location but don't let that put you off!! It's nice inside and has a real patio, albeit next to the Ace Hardware (I legitimately go there to buy my yardwork supplies and then swing by Art History for a drink or three). Bartenders are always friendly and pretty knowledgeable, and it's very family friendly, I'll go in alone (woman) and sit at the bar and it's never weird at all. Very cool very casual. This was my first time here. Super cute spot, spacious inside, and a nice beer garden outside (with umbrellas -- great for a sunny day). They have a huge menu, including options for non-beer drinkers, and offer a variety of sizes to choose from and reasonable prices. I had the "butterfly questions - no questions asked." It was really refreshing on this balmy 90 degree day. I would definitely come back the next time I'm in town. read more

Started the evening here around 5:00 and found some seats at the bar. There was some tables sitting with kids playing games. There was live music and a food truck. Sitting at the bar, beers were never empty. If you are sitting at the tables, you have to go up to the bar and order your beer but while your waiting you have time to check out their merch. They had a small kitchen with like pretzels but food took the opportunity to try out the food truck (Stadium Streets Eats). Polish was delicious. Freshly grilled and hot! It defiantly went well with he German style beers. read more

My initial visit here was good on a recent Saturday afternoon. There was a large crowd both inside and outside while an entertaining group of string musicians performed rock hits! We visited Art History Brewing during a recent daytrip to Geneva, Illinois (NOT Lake Geneva, Wisconsin nor Geneva, Switzerland). My love was initially amused that we were heading to a brewery located in a strip mall. However, we were both won over by this fairly new establishment, which exudes an enthusiasm for art and history, and beer of course. We enjoyed an excellent flight of beer in the taproom. We appreciated the spacing of the tables that promoted social distancing. They do not serve food, but they have relationships with a few local restaurants. They will have occasional live music at its outdoor patio area, and an artist was painting a large mural on one of the interior walls. Check out the Oktoberfest-style cow heads installed within your appropriate washroom. read more

Fantastic! Start with more stainless steel brewing kettles than you count, wrap around a bar to keep the drinkers from getting too close, then sell Colleen's breadsticks below market price! Wonderful dark German brews, lagers, and a couple of other Euro beers and IPAs to round out the menu. Good service, good background music. read more

We stopped in for after-dinner drinks last night, our first opportunity to give Art History a try. I like the location, they have plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, but the former will have to wait until it's a bit warmer. Inside they have regular and high tables, as well as barside. The beer menu here is about 15-20 deep, and covers a wide variety of styles. The Book of Kells is my speed, a dry Irish Stout that's super smooth and lower ABV. If I had more stomach space I would have tried another style. That'll have to wait until my next visit. Cheers! read more

A disappointing. This Brewery was pretty boring and there is nothing really good and everlasting from the beers that I tried. This Brewery is in the corner of a strip mall with an Ace Hardware and is very undistinguishable and even the kegs looked pretty dull not shiny and plastering. They do have outside seating during the warm months though and it might be the only positive thing about this Brewery but. Unless you live in the surrounding area I wouldn't waste my time coming here read more

Great brewery! Came here for GABF and we will be back. We got flights and liked everything we tasted; we were also brought a taster of their Czech lager, which was great! My other favorites were Art History Major (a NEIPA) and Butterfly Questions (a Farmhouse Ale), which was my favorite beer. One of 2 breweries located in downtown Geneva, while Penrose may be a little more well-known, I really enjoyed my experience here. I stopped here twice 2 weekends ago, once in the afternoon then again later in the evening. They have a lot of outdoor tables available with heaters, so it's likely one of the few places you'll be able to visit these days. I tried several on draft on site-Lincoln Highway, Strange Days Indeed, Gravitace and Art Therapy, and then got a crowler of Avenue of the Giants, and a 4pack of Art History Major to go. All very good, but may say Art History Major is my favorite. There's also plenty more beers of many varieties to have, something for all tastes. The staff was really friendly as well, and I enjoyed talking to them. I live in Chicago so don't know when I'll be back this way again but I'm really glad I got to check them out. read more

Really good beer, but if the owners are reading this.....you need to make your inside more relaxed. It's way too bright inside. Felt like I was in a cafeteria at a hospital. Dim the lights, add some coziness to it. If you ever get to a point you remodel ....bench seating along the walls, some candles on the tables. I had their Gravitace and after 20 years of trying(and hating) micro-brew Pilsners and Lagers this is the first, clean true-to-style Pilsner, I have had from a micro brew. All others have that cloying "homebrew" aftertaste. If you like crisp clean European beers give these guys a try. They have certainly cracked the code. BTW: Black & Grey in East Dundee also has some of their beers on tap including the Gravatace. read more
