A comfortable modern taproom serving a variety of European style lagers and North American ales. Seasonal beers are also available as well as limited snack foods. They host many weekly and monthly events and we were fortunate they had an Artisan Holiday Market on the day we went. Beers are good in flavor and most are available in 16,12,8,and 5oz pours. Open 7 days a week . Plenty of parking is available as well as a nice outdoor patio area. Beer and merch available to go as well. Definitely a fun brewery to visit when in beautiful Geneva.

Time for another review of our favorite brew pub. 5 stars 3 years ago and still 5 stars. The staff is very friendly and the beer is the best. They often have styles of beer you don't see very often like a Rauchbier. Current favorite of mine is the imperial stout. Just the right amount of roast and caramel. In the warmer months they have a nice little patio with live entertainment on the weekends. You can bring food in or get something from the food trucks on the weekends. Great place to hang out and drink the best beer in the area.

After several years of visiting the Geneva/St Charles area and trying all of the surrounding breweries (there are so many!), Art History has earned a place in our hearts as one of our favorites! First and foremost, the beer is fantastic! From excellent IPA's to really solid German style beers, to innovative and creative brews, there is something for everyone! This month has introduced the Artoberfest beer (Octoberfest) so we've been drinking that (and the Smoaktober) pretty exclusively. But we are usually big fans of their IPA's. The ambiance of the brewery is super fun. They have a big outdoor space for warmer months and a plethora of indoor seating, both at the table and bars. And yet it still has a vibe of intimacy and welcoming as a neighborhood bar! There is often live music and events going on, so there is always something to do! And they have great snacks like stuffed pretzels and a dessert dispenser. My husband likes to get cookies every visit! Prices are reasonable, the space is always clean, and the staff are always friendly, welcoming, and helpful. We also love the collaborations they do with other breweries. We always do the local IL brewery advent calendar and Art History always takes part. Plus they do taproom deals like the Artoberfest mug deal. If you get the mug you get a discount on Artoberfest refills throughout the month of September. A great deal and excuse to keep coming back! Finally, we love their art! It's very "Frank Lloyd Wright" architecture /art deco style. So cool and it stands out from many others! We love Art History Brewing and look forward to our next visit!

Came to this brewery and taproom for the artisan festival and found it to have a nice social vibe. I tried a cider fit for the season that was delicious. Service was friendly and quick. I like that the space is filled with light and they have an outdoor patio for when the weather is nice. Check out their social media for the lineup of events and food trucks.

I recently ventured here with my husband. We sat outside to enjoy the lovely weather, a flight of beers, and some live music. I enjoyed several of their beers like good morning Hamburg and goodnight Munich. Their Smoaktoberfest was fantastic too!! I think the only downside of this place, no fault of their own, is really just the strip mall situation. Not a fan of little children at a brewery either, but again out of the brewery's control.

This was my first time here. Super cute spot, spacious inside, and a nice beer garden outside (with umbrellas -- great for a sunny day). They have a huge menu, including options for non-beer drinkers, and offer a variety of sizes to choose from and reasonable prices. I had the "butterfly questions - no questions asked." It was really refreshing on this balmy 90 degree day. I would definitely come back the next time I'm in town.

Finally stopped by this place yesterday and what a find. Large selection of European style beers, which I love. Super clean. Good service. There were some snacks available for purchase, and a food truck outside. Saison was excellent. My wife tried the Munich lager. Will definitely be going back.

Cool glassware, too. Looks better full of beer!

There was a good size crowd there which added to the experience because everyone was enjoying their delicious beers and it was great meeting people. It felt like a community gathering place. It's a big place so it can handle a lot of people without it feeling overly crowded. There was live music on the upstairs level that everyone was enjoying. The beers were fantastic. It's a challenge to decide what beer you want because there is a lot of delicious options. I went with the ESB because it's a great style of beer you can't often find. Others in our group recommend their Hazy IPA. Easily a 5 star rating. Make sure to visit this amazing brewery in Batavia. Russ & Jan Livonia, MI

A good amount of choices, whether it's light or a strong one that will kick ass. They also have a food menu, with basics such as pretzels and snacks. For the most part it's good. It's located in an old building downtown that has a couple levels. The upstairs is often used for private events like parties. If it's not available then it's hard to get a seat anywhere. The seats at the bar fill up, and there's only a few tables. It's about $7 a pint. There's a few of the more stronger ones that cost more though. Best one we had the last time was the 3 Amigos Imperial Stout. Full bodied and thick as a brick too. There's notes of ancho chilis, cacao nibs, cinnamon, and vanilla. Also got something to eat. It's $8 for the Bavarian Pretzel. Helps to absorb the alcohol. They also have chips and salsa among the food options. Got to add it to the list of breweries that seem to be everywhere in this city. It's located on Shumway Avenue in a historic old building full of history. This is a popular place to have private events or whatever.

My family and I visited Alter during Scarecrow Fest this year, so it was understandably very busy…read more We ended up waiting about thirty minutes for a table. Thankfully, we were able to sit outside while we waited and listen to the live band, which made the wait much more enjoyable. I am not sure how crowded it gets on a typical weekend, but during the fest, it was definitely packed. When we were finally seated, we were placed in our own small section of the restaurant with no other tables around us. That was interesting because we had waited so long for a table, yet no one else was seated in that area the entire time we were there. Staff picked up after we were seated, so it was frustrating to see empty tables while the wait continued. Our waiter, however, was very friendly and attentive, which helped balance out the experience. For lunch, I ordered the Truffalo Hot Chicken Sandwich ($18.99) with fries, and it was excellent. The chicken breast was huge, crispy, flavorful, and had just the right amount of heat, and the truffle buffalo flavor really stood out. My husband ordered the Alter Caesar Salad ($18.99), but he said it was nothing special and should not have been that expensive. There really isn't that much to the salad, and the chicken wasn't even seasoned or grilled. I tried it, and it tasted like the chicken in those grab-and-go grocery store pre-made salads. Very disappointing for the price. Overall, despite the long wait due to the fest crowds, the chicken sandwich and service made the visit worthwhile. I would definitely return, especially on a less busy day to get a better feel for the normal dining experience, but I do not recommend the Caesar salad.
