Checked out this pretty cozy local brewery and distillery in Batavia. Grainology is a terrific use of an old building in the historic downtown. It adds a certain charm that newer shiny places can't match. Has a pretty good variety in the draft list. The prices are pretty good for being local and making smaller batches of stuff. A lot here to drink. It's both a brewery and distillery, which is an interesting process. This means you can get something with hops, or something less filling and smoother. Has plenty of room inside if there's not some party going on. It's about $6 a pint. A way to be charitable is to pay a few more bucks to get the Ability Amber. This is an amber ale, of which the proceeds benefits Project Mobility, which gives bicycles to disabled children. This has notes of plum and raisin. Has a kitchen but food is limited. There's often a food truck out front where you can get things like chips for $2, lobster rolls, and more. Good place to get locally made beers and liquors. It's closed Mondays. Great cocktail's with fresh hand made syrups. The bar tender was attentive and friendly, and the house band gave us all something to listen to. Outdoor space available that goes late in the season. I just wish that breweries and bars had more reasonable prices. They tend to go up in price 6:00 to 6.50 to 7.00 to 8 and 9 now being the norm. The pints are turning into 12 Oz pours. But this is the current trend. I would stay longer and spend more. But worth the stay and drinks nonetheless read more

Cute new spot in Batavia! (Opened November 2023). I saw a Facebook post about them and decided to give them a try. Lots of options for beer and cocktails, including non-alcoholic options. I tried two of their beers. Beer is available in 3 sizes which is a great thing. My favorite was the XPF. Nice time speaking to the brewer to hear their top sellers and what will be coming soon. They're been open a couple months. We're periodically in the area, but we had to give them a try. I ordered a 5oz Shultzy and a 5oz Partial Shipment. These were both ales. I like the pour options they have. Both beers weren't strong and had a smooth taste. Inside, it's very big and they have an area for guest parties. It looks like a shower of some sorts. The bar was pretty busy. It's clean and has a modern vibe. The staff was super friendly and busy. They have 2 food trucks that were outside if you're hungry. I won't knock them on the rating, but a thing to note is the bar tops aren't flat. Some areas have a bowed area that makes your drinks slide easy or be bumped easily. read more

We loved the beers we tried here and would have loved to buy some to take home, but very few are canned yet and the owner explained he doesn't want to do growlers because of... quality control concerns? I feel like if people want to give you money for your product then maybe just take it, but what do I know. There are a few yummy looking appetizers but not a huge menu, so this is a great spot for a drink before dinner. The atmosphere was fine. read more

First visit. They may only have 10 beers on tap, but I like that there are only 2 IPAs, 1 hazy and 1 west coast. A nice mix of styles. I had Belong, a Raspberry sour, and Peace, a pale ale. Both were really well done. A really large indoor space and a larger than most beer garden. Right off the Fox River bike trail which will always make it a favorite for me. read more

First time checking out Grainology on our annual trip to Batavia. Things I loved about the location immediately- lots of parking and a large outdoor area. We headed inside and were greeted by Bailey - who was friendly, knowledgeable and patient as we decided what to order. Lots of options including a full beer menu, and a selection of curated cocktails featuring their in-house distilled spirits - rye bourbon, wheated bourbon and vodka. We tried an experimental new drink the cherry bourbon sour and the espresso martini - both did not disappoint!! While we didn't order any food, I appreciated their partnership with other local restaurants. Looking forward to coming back and checking out Grainology again! read more

Stopped in for a drink as we were traveling around to some different breweries. What a cool atmosphere! This Brewstillery has only been open a year, and is so worth going to! There was live music, TVs on, and just a great feel. The service was good, but once we had paid our tab for one drink, no one came back to see if we had changed our mind and wanted another. The space was very cool with indoor and outdoor dining, beers were good - the only thing i would say was lacking was the service. They had a bunch of people who i guess were bar backs but not enough bartenders for how busy they were. they had a fest going on too, you would think they would have more staff on hand. extremely long waits for service. Wow what a super cool place! I never would have known it was there but glad we found it! The building is so cool and large - you will be surprised with how beautiful and large the indoor is. They are a brewery and a distillery so can only sell what they produce but the beer and the whiskey is excellent! No food menu to speak of but they do have some snacks.
