Let me start by saying that I have ordered food from this Rain II a few times and the food was delicious. With that being said, I randomly decided to dine in today. The initial waitress was very nice and attentive but the senior waitress was not friendly and lacked customer service skills. To make a long story short, I ordered from the lunch menu but the portions were too small. So I asked my waitress if I can order from the dinner menu instead or if they could add the additional portions that would equate to a dinner portion and I'd gladly pay the difference. She consulted with the senior waitress and she refused. So I ended up paying the difference for the appetizer that came with my lunch special and leaving. Smh. read more

I came here two days in a row! Was really pleased with the food. Must say that the service is a bit on the slow side, so it's perfect for a relaxed and leisurely meal with friends and/or family. But if you are in a rush, probably choose to go somewhere else. Over the two days, I was able to try the Thom Kha, Laksa with Tofu ($11), Red Curry, Chicken Pad Thai, and Basil Chicken. Everything was delicious except for the basil chicken, which was too salty and uninspiring. The portions are huge and very affordable. At happy hour, all of the cocktails are $5, which is a steal especially because they serve things such as delicious lychee mojitos. I wasn't expecting to find a nice restaurant like Rain II in the area, but I'm so glad I did! It was my sister's first time having Thai food, and I think Rain II did a pretty good job of introducing her to the yumminess ^^b The lunch specials are a great deal- appetizer and entree for less than $10. The appetizers are really small, but they make up for it in taste. The Tom Yum Soup appetizer was awesome. Ever so slightly sour, it took a lot of control for me not to slurp it all when my sister went to the restroom. I don't know what authentic laksa tastes like, but the version here is really, really good. The curry soup itself is creamy and a little sweet with a healthy dose of coconut milk. :) The decor here is dark and intimate, and on a Friday afternoon, there was almost no one there. The service was decent, though the waiter's personality was bland and strictly business. This did not ruin my girlfriend and I's experience. The food was okay - I've had better Thai food. Ordered Beef Drunken Noodles for delivery with an extra note to make it "extra spicy." It was fast, and the PERFECT amount of spicy. We opted for the vegetables, and all were fresh and cooked perfectly with the broccoli and beans being just the right crunch. Service was phenomenal and congenial. This review is based on a delivery placed on a Tuesday early noon at 11am. If Heights folks think this is good Thai, then obviously they've never been to Thailand or Queens, or even Hell's Kitchen. The delivery took over 1hr+. The spring roll was already soggy and drenched from being in a container full of spicy duck sauce..(ew) WHY NOT PUT IT ON THE SIDE?! I asked for hot sauce, no hot sauce. The side of white rice is so small it's comical. I ordered Beef noodles but got Tofu in it instead. NO beef. Plus there were about 8 pieces of noodles in there in a lunch container that was half full. The eggs were also badly burnt. The only flavor this dish had was wok char. There's no salt, no pepper, no spice, no scallions, nothing. Maybe dining in is a different experience but I will not be ordering deliver from them ever again. I loved this place the food tastes great but you get way less than you do at the other Thai place two blocks away. The place is way more suitable for dining in beautiful ambience. I stayed with a friend in Washington Heights and suffered from lack of (trusted) vegan options. I was informed that a Thai restaurant had opened. I checked it out yesterday. Thai is one of, if not, my favorite Asian fare. Positive: The decor of restaurant is very nice. I love the wall design. The pepper sauce was good. Negative: The green thai fried rice was terrible. It lacked flavour, appeal and was dry. The rice was overcooked. The eggplant cuts were very inconsistent in size from huge to medium dice. Unfortunately, I can't patronize this business. Honestly, this place looked strictly average from the reviews, but it's a high 4 to 5 star spot for the price point. We had the calamari to start, which was very tasty, though maybe a dollar or two too pricy for the portion size. Our recent experience with Rain II was very complicated and lacked customer service. We ordered the curries for the first time and didnt enjoy it because even with the coconut base the coconut taste overpowered the actual taste of the curries. Two of us wanted to exchange the curries for the fried rice and we were told the chef was angry with us and didnt want to cook for us anymore. We explained that we would pay for the fried rice we just didnt want the curries because they were not what we expected and we did not like the taste. The waitress seemed super nervous and didn't want to face the owner or the chef. It seemed like they were more concerned about keeping the staff happy than keeping the customers happy and we had to beg the chef to make food for us. I will not be going back here again. Rating Rain II four stars for happy hour prices and decent food. I figure the cook and bartender shouldn't have to pay the price for bad customer service. I rate them one star for hospitality. They really need to retrain their staff to be more attentive and courteous to the patrons. Wait staff appear uninterested and stone face and only after you fling your arms a couple of times, they notice you. Rain II is back at it again with another night of disappointment- this time through Yelp's private messages. Here is what they said: "Have you ever eaten soft shell crab before? The whole crab is fried and eaten, that type of crab does not have a lot of meat like a lobster or king crab legs. As for the bubble tea, we did not know there was a bug that landed in there. We already voided that and did not charge you. Just because you didn't understand what you were ordering doesn't mean you can send the food back and not be charged. We didn't grow the ingredients for the dishes we had to order them and pay for them so it costs the restaurant. Also we don't cook from microwaved." Yes, it is true they voided the charge of the bubble tea. You go Glen Coco, you get a gold star and a cookie. As for the rest of that message, well... We did see one of the cooks microwaving a dish and then serving it. Second, whether soft shell crab is meant to have a lot of meat or not, the crab we received was a steaming pile of shit smothered in sauce. It was inedible and nauseating. (I am quoting from my response to their message) The poor service we received is reflected in what they said as well. Instead of apologizing or trying to make it right, they are going out of their way to make excuses for one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had and doing so privately instead of facing the truth. Rain II is by far my favorite Thai place in upper Manhattan. Not only does it have great food, but the interior of the restaurant is really nice. I recommend their pad see ew or their drunken noodles, especially at lunch when they have them on special. My only complaint is that they don't make yellow curry, my favorite Thai dish. read more

Quick delivery, cheap prices. All things considered, I think this is the best Thai in the lower Heights. Tung Thong has been trumped. I've tried almost everything on the menu. The basil udon noodles is my favorite. As well as the crispy fish with spicy sauce, clay shrimp pot, chicken satay, gyuza, gra prow kai dow (ground chicken with veggie stir fry and fried egg on top), calamari, all the curries, and the peanut sauce with anything. The staff is friendly and I really enjoy eating in. It's beautiful and relaxing inside. I like the fact that it's not crowded and you get top notch, personalized service. The place looks ok, they definitely tried to make it look modern and have interesting decor but it is unkept and the restrooms look like they are from a fast food chinese restaurant. The prices are a bit high for the area and the portions are not that big, the flavor is also "just ok". I had siu may and martini shrimp as appetizers, the siu may dumplings were burned. As an entree I had the garlic platter with chicken, which is supposed to be vegetables in a garlic sauce, it was just broccoli and carrots and the sauce didn't taste like garlic, I didn't even have bad breath afterward. I saw they had fried ice cream as dessert and was my reason for going there, it tasted like it had been fried and then frozen again which beats the whole purpose, I've had this dish before and its supposed to be hot on the outside and cold inside, this was cold and hard as a rock overall. I'm feeling 3 stars plus tonight after my meal here. Here's why... The dining room for this place felt like an afterthought. Like my first visit, the food was delicious -solid -authentic and flavorful. The service kind of beyond sucked. It took a really really really long time for our appetizer to appear. It was fried calamari. Not rocket science. There were 3 other occupied tables in the room. I soon figured out why we were basically ignored. The delivery guys were coming and going with what seemed like enough bags to feed half of the heights. When the calamari finally arrived (I swear it felt like 30 minutes but was probably 20) it was a whore's breath away from burnt. We were so hungry we wolfed it down anyway and of course our entrees came out about a minute later. Honey, this is no way to run a rodeo. Or a restaurant. If you've ever had a meal with that annoying friend who is distracted and texting and then suddenly looks up and wants to engage you, then you know this feeling. A little too little and a lot too late. Now the food was delicious- veggie basil duck and pad Thai with shrimp - and I really like the decor (lose the big stupid TV please) - and we are still totally starved for decent Thai uptown so I'm going with 3 stars. I want you to succeed. But please misses please, this is my second visit and you've got to begin recognizing the people in the room and not basically ignoring them to keep your Seamless ratings up. It won't work forever. Sooner or later another Thai restaurant will grace us uptown pioneers with good food AND good service and you'll be toast. Like those calamari. The dining room should've been packed tonight but I suspect people get tired of feeling like they are invisible when they come into your cute little house of delights. This is soooo easy to fix. Delivery 3.5 stars. Through Grubhub ordering was smooth, food actually arrived in 30 mins as opposed to the estimated 60 mins, and my order was 100% correct and food was warm. Stars deducted because of the drunken noodles..it was more like sober noodles, because the flavor was pretty bland, the spice was barely tasted (as I indicated on the grub hub special instructions "SPICY PLEASE"), and the portions weren't overwhelming. Easily not my favorite from this place, which is disappointing. But I have to give them props: the pad thai was phenomenal. Seriously, some of the best I ever had, flavored just perfectly and savored so much that I almost ate the fork. Also, the tamarind chicken wings app was perfect: also flavored well, I believe they included either 6 or 8 pieces (I ate them so fast I didn't stop to count or take any pics).
