We've been eating here for 20+ years, the night we moved in we had Rafaelles and have always had great experiences.

Spent about half an hour trying to pick a new pizza place to try because I was specifically craving this kind of pizza and the spots closer to us have been very disappointing. When I saw they'd been open for 40+ years I was sold on giving them a try and I'm so glad we did. The staff was incredibly nice and the pizza was amazing and very filling. Usually I can put away at least two large slices but I struggled a little bit this time. 100% will be returning. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile now & I finally did! I made a great choice. The pizza was really good, I love the fact with every bite I got toppings. Nice flavor, crust is just to my liking - it was put together well. Not too much or less of something. This is my first update from a previous review of gloating how good that pizza was on my first visit. Went for NYE with a friend (who visited from out of town back east) and we ordered a large special with pepperoni, green peppers, sausage, mushroom and half side black olives. I was so excited for my taste buds to savor every inch of the pizza. Big disappointment!! Was not impressed on my second visit and maybe it had a lot to do with how busy they were but that's no excuse. Pepperoni tasted so bland and the sauce lacked what made the pizza so good on my first visit which I ordered two slices of pepperoni, mushroom and onion toppings during the weekday lunch hour. Not sure if this restaurant is a one- trick pony or hit-and-miss eatery but I was very upset we wasted money and should've bought pizza someplace else like Pomo where my friend originally wanted to go to. My friend and I shared a large pizza here recently and it was really good. You can tell the recipe is one that came with the old owner, because it's real NY pizza. Also, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Cons; The place was hot inside! Folks...it's Phoenix in the heart of the summer. Crank that AC down to where it's comfortable for customers to dine in. Also, most pizza places sell beer and wine. It's downright un-American to have pizza without a cold beer! If they would turn down the AC and start selling draft beer, you'd have a customer for life! I don't give five stars lighly. This is my first, and it's only for the delivery from Raffaele's because I have never seen the place in my life. We (my housemate Joanna and I) ordered a cheese Sicilian because we saw it on the menu and had no idea what that meant, and we wanted to find out. Sure, I could have asked the friendly phone voice, but that would have killed the adventure. What showed up at our door (held by a wonderfully cheerful gal in red glasses - sassy!) was a box full of bliss. 16 mounds of pizza each as big as a slab of lasagna. There was a slight kick to the sauce, the cheese was melty the crust was crunchy at the edges, light soft (but fully cooked) at the center. Oh man, was I in trouble... I made it through 3 pieces and then had to go lay on the couch and read a book. But it was so worth it. Mmmmm. All that, and they'll bring it to your door! read more

This is what I call a true blue dive. The outside was very unassuming and we were a nervous to go in but the yelp rating is what got me to walk though the door. Inside the place is very old looking and not decorated too much. One thing I did see is a signed picture of Ronald and Nancy Reagan. Very cool. The owner took our order and was very nice. He helped us order and we got his lunch special instead of paying even more. I'm always a sucker for meatball sandwiches so I had to try this and plus this is a pizza dive so I had to try the typical thin crust pepperoni. I really enjoyed the meatball sandwich. Nice and hot and juicy. They put about 5 or 6 meatballs in the sandwich which gives your a nice bite every time. The tomato sauce was pretty good too. So the meatball sandwich passed my test. Yum yum. I also enjoyed the pizza. Crust was very good. So I enjoyed it. So they have thin and thick pizza crust. There were people coming in and out of this little place while we were there the whole time. Pretty impressive for a little pizza place. Only thing i didnt like was their air conditioning. It wasn't working very well and you had to go in the kitchen to get to the bathroom. Dirty bathroom but remember this is a dive. So not bad place. Pretty good... read more

I would say that the pizza here was okay. I would have to agree with one of the elite yelpers in that the pizza wasn't the valleys top pizza joints. Although, the Stromboli was to die for. I came during lunch rush and we did a good 20 to 25 minutes for my order and didn't get my order taken for a solid 5 minutes. They were in a bind and I appreciate the hard work that they put in with the personal that they had on staff. A must try if you are in the neighborhood but I would not go out of your way to try this place. read more

Raffaele's Pizza - This is the small stromboli with a slice of Sicilian. - Pizza Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

Do it correctly: cheese pizza. They offer toppings, but you won't need them. This isn't Papa John's and it's a waste to cover up Raffaele's craftsmanship with a bunch of other flavors. Cheese slice. Say it again: cheese. Their hot wings are big and fat and satisfying. Their warnings about the hotter wings are accurate, and you might need to pop an immodium if you overdo it on the sauce. They remain some of my favorite hot wings, and the faint tickle of vinegar that teases your nose and the back of your throat when they put them down immediately gets me excited. The decor is perfect. There's a lot of goofy/tacky signs with aphorisms on them like "The deadline for complaints was yesterday!" Their menu is done on an outdated Pepsi board where the letters have uneven kerning. It's usually a bit warm inside. It's the platonic ideal of a pizza place; bask in its correctness. Similarly, because it is a perfect pizza place, it would be a mistake to order too far from pizza and wings. If you ask for a salad, they're going to give you some iceberg wedges with antipasti ingredients tossed on. You've been warned. Cheese pizza. Hot wings. The end. read more

In actuality, I would probably give this spot a 3.5 stars because there were some highs and lows. First off, I will say that the place has a really cool, old school vibe to it. Definitely feels like a NY pizza spot. I came in for lunch and got a slice and wings combo and I also wanted to try the Sicilian slice since it was my first time here. Let's start with the highs. The wings were seriously amazing! Not kidding probably some of the best wings I've had. They took a while to come out but they were so worth the wait. They were super crispy and I ordered the hot wings so they definitely had a nice flavorful kick. Their ranch was really great as well. The second thing that I did enjoy was their thin pepperoni slice. The crust had good flavor, good amount of cheese, and the pepperonis tasted good. The Sicilian slice was unfortunately where they went downhill for me. I just got a plain cheese Sicilian slice and when it arrived it wasn't really that hot and the cheese wasn't even melted nicely. The sauce was definitely not the type of pizza sauce I like. It was really thick and had tomato paste like qualities. I prefer more of a light and simple tomato sauce. However, with this set back, I would still definitely come back for those incredible wings and the thin slice pizza. read more

Got to try The Raffaele 14 inch Special. The pie has 7 toppings on it. Was baked to perfection with a flavorful marinara sauce that helped to highlight the tastey contrast of the crispy crust. Not a picturesque place or neighborhood, but one I'm comfortable with. Especially for this pizza. It's got a great crust and tasty toppings. I even went cheese at first to verify the crust, sauce and cheese. Worth going again and again. Thin, crusty and chewy crust. Me and my partner decided to find a bomb New York style pizza place. With the reviews being amazing I was like well let's try it. We turn in to this place and we both started getting creepy feels inside of us. But oh well we are hungry. We walk in and this guy was like how my I help u. We said we want a few slices of cheese. At that time I started hearing one maybe two girls start screaming. Didn't sound bad though but something was annoying them. The man walked in the back and the screaming or shouting stopped. The man came back and put our slices in the oven for about 45 seconds each slice. The pizza was maybe 1 or 2 degrees above room temperature. Ranch was watery. This one was huge to me, I've waiting a long time because I did have to travel out of my way to get here. It was also huge because of the "yelp hype" this place gets. I was thinking, this HAS to be awesome! Well I did it! I got a Sicilian pie for pickup and drove down from north phoenix! The place is as described, it's not in the best neighborhood but nothing I think anyone needs to fear. It looks worse than it really is. The inside does look like a corner pizza shop in the Bronx... I like that so points awarded there! The service was AWESOME, everybody there were friendly, welcoming, and thoughtful. That means a lot these days so they scored a lot of points there. First time in there and I met a couple who were also both from NY, we had a great conversation and I was happy to meet them... got some points scored there as well. Their customers are awesome (which says a lot)! So I get the pie home... open the box and it looks just like the yelp review photos. Consistency! Major points scored there! I couldn't wait to try it and yeah... this is a good pie! Good dough, cooked perfectly, great sauce, good cheese.. who can ask more? This tastes like home! My kids try it.... They LOOOOVE IT!! Very HUGE points there!! They don't like many things.. this, they loved! There were still PLENTY of left-overs, so they got wrapped up and put in the fridge. Next day, took a couple of slices out, threw them in the over, and BAM!! It still tastes amazing!! So the fact that this pizza reheats really well scores even more points!!! Picked it up on Friday night and it was gone by Sunday night! I enjoyed it ALL weekend long!! Amazing! Thank you guys!! This place lives up to the hype.. I highly recommend to anybody!!! Needed to kill time and find someplace for lunch while my husband was having a medical procedure. Someone at the surgical center suggested Raffaele's because I could get a slice or sandwich. It was close. Don't let the strip center fool you. I pulled in right before open and almost didn't go in, but I noticed there was a line forming before open. This had to be a good sign right? Ordered pickup through Yelp and the wait time was over an hour for one pizza, 6 wings, and garlic bread and when we picked up the pizza, they said the pizza has been done for well over 30 minutes but I never got notified.... I absolutely love this pizza place tucked into a small shopping mall off 19th ave. Their pizzas are large and greasy, packed full of flavor and guarenteed to leave left overs for days. Their wings are saucy and delicious, their hot wings will leave you sweating but sated. Their Sicilian is definitely on my "to try" list. Raffaele's is my favorite pizza place in this neighborhood or most others. While I've never had a New York slice proper, I'm gonna have to assume that it would taste extremely close to this. Their sausage sandwiches are also delicious if you're not in the mood for pizza, which I don't personally think is possible but hey, crazier things have happened. Just be cautious after dark. My first visit was two weeks ago and just now writing the review. This place is legit and excellent. The restaurant is a small "mom and pop" place that has been there forever, and I ordered pizza and spaghetti with meat sauce for take out.... exceptional food and while it's a bit of a drive, very well worth it. There are a ton of pizza places closer to where I live, yet I'll be coming back here from now on when I want real Italian food that is reasonably priced and authentic. Coworker and I came here for lunch. We just wanted a nice, reasonable priced lunch to get together eat and chat. I looked up well reviewed restaurants near cholla and yucca libraries (where we work) and saw this place pop up. The place is in an old strip mall and looks like a dive, but the pizza was wonderful!
