Walked I walked in after my hot Pilates class with nine minutes till close. I asked if they were still taking orders and if not, it was OK. The gentleman agreed to make me 40 wings lol I waited and I was the last person in there and he handed me my wings and a giant box. I was watching him make something by hand, but I didn't know what it was. I said what's that and he said that's for you. I said what is it he said pizza. He made me a whole pizza. He said enjoy your night. Well, he doesn't know is that I've been going through like the worst time in my life. His kind gesture made me feel like I mattered. And I am so appreciative of that. You never know what someone is going through. But for whatever reason, his kindness changed my whole night. The food is also delicious. Ordered a mushroom and sausage slice. Even though I watched them take it out of the oven, it tasted like it hadn't been properly heated-it was barely warm. When I opened the box in the car, I was hit with an odd smell that didn't resemble pizza at all. I almost went back, but instead, I just discarded the slice. The woman who assisted me was kind and friendly, which was the one positive. However, her coworker (who seemed to be the cook) did not display a high level of hygiene. The service was great, but the pizza and kitchen standards were not. I won't be returning. read more

Horrible experience, walked in wasn't greeted wasn't even acknowledged stood there for about five minutes the cook walked up and was fumbling around with the pen and paper while wearing their gloves never cleaned or took them off when back to the meal area to prep super none appealing never said one word utterly the absolutely horrid experience. The city would be disgusted and disappointed with them repping the city like that straight garbage! Pizza Hut around the corner will get you better service than this dump. There is no other place in Phoenix to buy pizza since Casanova Brothers Pizza closed in Mesa. Casanova was always a second choice to Ray's for me. GREAT NEW YORK STYLE PIZZA, in a New York environment. Being a NYer I am totally at home here and I try to bring my out of town guests here. The pizza is traditional NY style with a great taste. First off, these other reviews must be for the wrong restaurant. Clearly none of these people have ever set foot inside Famous Ray's Pizza on 7th St and Bell Rd. My wife and I eat here almost every week and the food is always delicious, hot, and made with love. Immediately after walking through the door you're greeted with a smile by one of the family members that works here. Your nose is treated to a symphony of amazing smells - fresh cheese, handmade dough, sizzling pepperonis... the list goes on. Everything from here is incredible and authentic. IMO, other reviewers have no taste buds, culture, or sense of respect. Try the food at Famous Rays and you will NOT be disappointed. read more

Great atmosphere and friendly staff. They work really hard back there and have been open for a long time. The pizza is one of my favorite slices in the area. However, it can be a hit or miss when it comes to crisp (sometimes it can be soggy, lately it has been for me). I wouldn't hesitate to ask for it on the crispy side! Great spot overall. read more

In town because mom was in the hospital and I was starved and looking for some comfort food. Found "FAMOUS RAYS PIZZA" on Yelp, the Greek Pizza looked interesting. Definitely spent more than I normally would have to have it delivered along with an antipasto salad. The salad was extremely disappointing, a pile of iceberg lettuce with a pinch of chopped olive in one corner of the styrofoam container, a pinch of green olive in another corner, a pinch of diced peperoncini in another corner and a couple thin slices of tomato. Not my idea of an antipasto salad, mostly lettuce. However, the Greek pizza was phenomenal, so good!! If I lived in Phoenix, or even in AZ I would definitely eat that again. Now I'm trying to find a place near me where I could try to get something at least similar... I will definitely be back for the Greek pizza! But I'll pick it up and save the fleecing the delivery cost me. read more

I ordered three x-large New York-style pizzas "to go". One was pepperoni; one was pepperoni and sausage, and the last was the "monster". It was easily enough to feed six adults and two small children. The crust was good, and had a good "chew" with enough crispiness and slightly sweet flavor. The sauce was delicious, not sweet, and had a very nice tang to it. It had plenty of cheese, but not too much. The pepperoni was good as well... the sausage even better! The monster had a lot of toppings, but still seemed to be well-matched, as it tasted really good together. Service was friendly and efficient. Pricing was on the high side, but everyone got what they wanted and there were left-overs for breakfast. All in all, I am pleased and will be back again. read more

I don't know what happened with this location but when Ronnie and his crew worked there years ago the pizza was consistent. it was good New York style and this is coming from someone from New York. However, the last few visits the pizza was hard the crust is hollow and when I ordered today and mentioned something to one of the guys, he kind of gave me a little bit of an attitude and said "sometimes this is how the pies come out". And you want to serve what you're saying to me is a substandard pizza? Adios Ray I'll go to Greenway or Union hills at least those people are consistent just have to drive farther. read more

They filled my pizza up with olives! I was so excited I forgot to take a picture. This rays is different than the one in north Scottsdale. That one you walk in and choose your slice. This one you picked a cheese slice and then your toppings. It was super yummy, but I was kinda sad cuz the north Scottsdale has so many choices and This one didn't. Genuinely disappointing place to eat. I felt like I made a mistake the moment I walked in the door, should have been my sign to leave. The person working the counter/making the food was sitting in the food prep area on his cell phone when I walked in. He immediately got up but didn't really greet me or seem happy to see a customer. I placed my order for a large pepperoni pizza and was advised 20 minutes, ok no problem. I thought he would wash his hands before making my pizza, nope. While I was waiting for my pizza I also watched him go in the kitchen and eat food and then immediately go back to making pizzas, still without washing his hands. I'm not a germaphobe but this still bothered me to some extent... I put all that aside and got my pizza and left, still no thank you, or please come again, nothing. This place was dead when I came in, they definitely weren't too busy for pleasantries. The pizza itself is what really matters though, and it honestly sucks. I haven't had a pizza this bad since I went to a birthday party at peter piper pizza. I won't describe the pizza since I posted a picture of it, but what an absolute mess. Zero pride in their work/product. Tastes very generic, very similar to peter piper pizza or little ceasers, garbage. I ate 2 slices and threw the rest in the trash, waste of $24. read more

Loved that they had the Mets game on the TV when i walked in and lots of NY decor. Ordered one slice of pepperoni and one slice of sausage as I always do to evaluate NY Pizza. Look and taste was definitely NY style. Absolutely no complaints about the taste and they used sliced sausage, not crumbles, definitely a NY style for that. The only disappointing issue was that when you order a slice in NY, it comes from a large pie. The two slices i received appeared to be from a small or medium pie. Tasty, but a little smaller than usual. Two slices and a fountain soda for less than $8 though, cant beat that in many places. Good place for NY pizza in north Phoenix. read more

Very disappointing....as a lifelong lover of Ray's Pizza since the 1980's, even throughout the Pizza wars we stayed faithful. I am here to sadly say, not the brand, at least I do not think so however, the franchisee that owners drop the ball on this one. The location of Ray's Pizza off of 7th street & Bell Rd fell asleep at the wheel, for starters, cleanliness 1 star. Floors, counters they made the food were not clean and the ingredients were disorganized. Made me think a few times, if I should be eating the pizza and wings at all. Refrigerated drinks, zero starts if that's an option. They had maybe 15-20 bottles that were thrown across throughout the shelving of the refrigerator that could clearly hold up to 200 bottles. This tells me they neglected the budget for adult beverages. Zero wine options as well, and then the pizza and wings themselves zero stars again. My husband and young son could not bite through the very old "dough". The wings were pre-fried who knows from what day because it wasn't the same day, you can tell they were just dumped again in sauce. We bought so much food to feed my son and his friends and spent over $125 and I regret it immediately. Very disappointed, I will drive out of my way to go to another Ray's Pizza and never go back to that location. Future consumers be aware! read more

I live near Rays and the cheese calzone has always been my favorite. Tonight I ordered 4 and spent $60.00. I couldn't believe what was delivered! It was a TACO with a LITTLE cheese inside. I called and spoke to Rachel who claims to be the manager. She said grub hub has to be the one to refund. and then I can reorder. I said it "the next ones better not look like a taco" and that is when RACHEL LOST HER DAMN MIND!! She hung up and when I called back she threatened to call the police and called me a bitch. Seriously, when did Rays stop taking pride in their product and stop respecting the customer? I'm attaching pics....this is not a calzone by any standards. From now on I order from Times Square. As former residents long ago and now visitors to the Phoenix area, we searched on Yelp for a pizza place near where we stayed -- with a health score of 90/100 or better. Ray's reviews fit the criteria - most said the pizza -- delicious. We disagree. First off, it's in a Safeway shopping center with a couple of other pizza places present and tucked into a corner, so we had a difficult time trying to find it. Secondly, there's no table service (for the hefty price), and every booth seats a maximum of 2 adults on each side. It's squishy and doesn't accommodate a family larger than 2 adults and 2 small children unless they wish to sit apart. Thirdly, we gave our order to the rather GRUMPY female behind the counter as did our friends. A large veggie pizza cost us $31.44 with pepperoni and sausage added to half of it. My spouse paid for our order via card, and immediately afterward I said, "Oh no." I had a check-in Yelp coupon for a first-time customer for a 10% discount. The grumpy counter person informed me it was too late for a refund -- even though we were leaving Phoenix the next day and headed back to our hometown in the Southeast. When we return in future winters, we won't return to Ray's, and we will advise our Phoenix friends that this isn't the best place for pizza. Fourthly, while toppings abounded, the crust had not been thoroughly cooked and was doughy and difficult to cut. The mushrooms were straight from a can and not freshly cleaned and chopped. The green peppers were previously sautéed and soggy. One of our companions could not finish even one slice. She was so disappointed, and as a local resident, she came based on our recommend.
