The restaurant was incredibly busy when we got there and most of the staff we could see looked visibly stressed. My friends and I were a little worried watching everything from the entrance because oh how slammed they were. And then we got sat and all our worries went away. Our server, Austin, immediately made us feel at home! He also was busy with what looked like maybe 5 or 6 other tables plus us but greeted us with a smile and made sure to effectively walk us through the menu and explained that cooked food might take a little longer than sushi. Since it was my friend's first time in, he brought us some complimentary edamame and got our drinks to us so quickly. Austin was very knowledgeable, calm, and seemed like he was genuinely enjoying taking care of us. The vibes were perfect with great music and a nice space to eat. Austin was perfect!!! RA Sushi absolutely killed it last night. The food was fantastic, we crushed seven rolls including the Las Vegas, tempura, and multiple Rainbow rolls, which were hands down our favorite. Everything from the edamame and miso soup to dessert was spot on and super fresh. Service was outstanding. Our server Bryce was running around like a madman but still took perfect care of us. Pro tip: do not call him Rice. He does not find that joke nearly as funny as I do. And the manager Bill was awesome, he checked on us multiple times and made sure we were having a great time. Bonus fact: Bill is married to one of an identical triplet, which is the coolest thing I've heard in a long time. The whole team seems genuinely happy and the vibe is on point. Clean space, great energy, live DJ dropping solid hits, and a cool open balcony. Bill is clearly doing a fantastic job turning things around and you can feel it in the atmosphere. Stopped by RA Sushi for dinner and had a nice overall experience. We were seated immediately, and the staff was friendly and attentive the whole time. Parking is street-only, but we were able to find a paid spot nearby. Sushi can get pretty pricey here, so we were really glad we caught their happy hour. It made trying a bunch of things way more enjoyable. We ordered almost everything off the HH menu, and the value was great. My favorite roll of the night was the Viva Las Vegas roll, and my husband really enjoyed their sake, which was also a solid happy hour deal. Living in Downtown Austin you have lots of choices, Ra Steak & Sushi is not a good choice. My wife and I went to the restaurant tonight for our weekly date night. We ordered our meals with hers coming out 10-15 minutes before mine. Our waiter did not apologize or mention that the timing was unusual, but noted your dinner will be out in 5-10 minutes. I kindly got our bill and paid the 20% tip as admission to the circus, thinking I will never be back here again. It really is a shame, great location, banged up interior, and poor service. Please remember there are lots of good choice in Downtown Austin, Ra Steak & Sushi just is not a good choice. read more

Egg rolls tasted like they were from a freezer, and got soggy super fast. The edamame was swimming in this spicy soy sauce which made it way too salty and no longer addicting like edamame should be. So when me and my bf saw this placed it was given a 3.4, and honestly I think that's a pretty accurate rating. The service is meh! They tried but our waiter admitted that the waiter assigned to us an originally didn't wanna take the table, then they served us ragoons with no cream cheese, and they forgot one of our sushi rolls. They also only checked up on us once after being served our food and it was like 20 min afterwards. I also was never given soy sauce which you would assume they'd bring that out since it is a sushi restaurant or that they'd have it at the table. Truly an Austin staple. This is my go to spot to brings friends from out of town. The patio/balcony view is gorgeous and the vibes are always great. We went at 3 pm on a Saturday which happened to be as soon as their happy hour began. I got the Tuna bento box for $19 and the servers & bartender were phenomenal. A couple times we were there and it was good, however, this time the appetizers came out last, they put cream cheese in our everything, even though we asked them not to... the waiter was not knowledgeable, and at the very end after eating everything I said " so when are the apps going to be out?" and there was no acknowledgment to the fact that we had already finished eating everything. However my less than perfect review is due to the poor experience from the bar on the night of 7/18. I waited for a long time for my drink and was almost done with my food before the bar even communicated to our wonderful server that they were out of lychees for my drink order. This was unprofessional communication for this type of restaurant setting and dampened our restaurant experience. On top of that, the bar tender served an old fashioned with cubed ice?? So obviously the whiskey melted so it tasted like watered down whiskey for my bfs drink which was disappointing since the food and service was so good otherwise. I've been here many times, but last night I brought my boyfriend for his birthday and it was the best experience! We opted for outdoor seating and got a nice table along the edge of the patio looking out at the city. The DJ was such a fun aspect of the night, really adding to the bday celebration! As for the food, it was so flavorful & every dish complimented the other - making mixing & matching super easy. We ordered Chili Ponzu Yellowtail, Spicy Crispy Rice, & Ultimate Shrimp Tempura Roll to start along with a Passionfruit Margarita & Lycheetini. We closed out with Ra-Ra Shrimp & Nutty Grilled Salad with chicken. Our favorite was the Chili Ponzu Yellowtail - which our waiter Jonathan also recommended as a sushi roll! I was pleasantly surprised when I received a $20 coupon for my half birthday. I decided to take advantage of it and try the restaurant, since I love sushi! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, as they were getting ready for Valentine's Day. Pink and red balloons, along with hanging heart decorations, made perfect backdrops for couples who will be soon celebrating there. Since it was so cold outside, I decided to order the Spicy Shrimp Soup: shrimp simmered in a spicy miso broth with tofu, green onions, mushrooms and spinach. My first spoonful seemed so spicy that I almost choked. But I quickly got used to it and savored the rest. There was a generous number of shrimp, and the vegetables balanced out the taste and texture. It was amazing, and well worth the $11.50. Surrounding the iron soup bowl were 4 pieces of rice fried to perfection, making a beautiful presentation. I also ordered the "aburi," or torched sushi. I had never heard of this method of preparation, so I asked the server, Jedediah, for his advice. He highly recommended the yellowtail, and I'm glad I trusted his opinion....it was delicious and it melted in my mouth! I was very impressed with the quality of the food, and pleased that I was able to keep within the $20 amount of my coupon. RA sushi is one of my go-to spots downtown for sushi! They have a huge menu with an excellent selection of sushi rolls that are always fresh and delicious. We've tried the Chili Ponzu Yellowtail Roll, the Crazy Monkey roll (my personal favorite), the viva Las Vegas roll (excellent presentation), the salmon sashimi, the mango shrimp roll, the tuna hand roll, the pineapple cheese wontons (delicious), the RA RA shrimp (spicy!), and the chili ponzu yellowtail. I've also tried the sake flight, which is good if you like sweet sake, if you don't like sweet drinks I'd skip it! I've really enjoyed everything I've had to eat here and love the happy hour and birthday vouchers! I noticed the last time we came here the salmon sashimi was a much smaller portion than normal so hope they bring back the larger pieces because that's something I really enjoyed here. Worst restaurant experience of my life. Booked a reservation for 8 PM on Valentine's Day three weeks in advance. Showed up at eight to at least 10 other couples all waiting for their reservation and was told we would have to wait for our table to be ready for 30 minutes and that they would text us when our table was ready. An hour and a half later, we never received a text and was only sat because we went back to the hostess to ask why our table was not ready. We ordered everything as soon as the waiter came by because we heard the kitchen was backed up and have been waiting an hour and a half for dinner. Ordered miso soup and edamame appetizer, a sashimi platter, and two rolls. The miso soup came out in a plastic to go cup. The edamame arrived after the sashimi. The sashimi platter was supposed to come with a salad that never arrived. We never received either of our rolls. They brought us someone else's role and told us to just eat it because it's all they had. I came here because they gave me a $20 birthday card from them. I've always loved the food so it was great to have this little discount as well. I tried their Uni for the first time and I have to say it was really good. I love getting the vegetable tempura there. It's one of my favorite appetizers. And the sushi roll we got was really nice. It had a crab shrimp and some spicy tuna and cream cheese really delicious. I don't think I've ever ordered anything here that I don't fully like. I will say the calamari was OK. It was interesting to see the long strip like that and was a little mushy for my taste. Today I had a horrible experience with the service at Ra Sushi. Our original waitress was very tunnel-visioned and not attentive to our table at all. The first issue was the Espresso Martini, which was far too sweet due to too much simple syrup. After receiving our first round of appetizers, the waitress never came back to check on us. We waited over 30 minutes and still did not receive our edamame. We eventually had to get a manager's attention to address the issue. Manager Cristina stepped in and was helpful, letting us know she would take over our table. However, we still had to point out that our edamame was missing. Cristina then had to return to manage the bar section and introduced yet another person to take over our table. When our entrées finally came out, we were still missing our steak and rice plate, and again, no one checked on us. Each time, someone from our table had to flag down staff just to get basic service. Eventually, we had to walk to the bar to speak with Cristina again to explain that we were still missing a plate and that, at this point, we were simply done with the entire experience. Overall, the service was extremely disappointing and unorganized. This was a horrible experience for us within a one hour and half time frame. read more

Service was much faster this time- the bartender in particular was fabulous and very engaged in our questions about some of the drinks and even let us have a teensy little taste of an interesting ancho liquor. We tried a couple different apps; the tunacado I wasn't super impressed by, the description said seared but it seemed almost a little smoked or something the texture was kind of dry. Not bad just wouldn't order it again. The chili ponzu yellowtail however we loved! That's a definite yes! I still feel like the whole menu including drinks is a little overpriced, but it's not unusual for the area and the food and drinks are good just expensive. The bar has a wide variety of cocktails and I started with a pineapple cocktail that was also offered as a mocktail. I ordered the rainbow roll that was on happy hour special at a great price. It has a variety of sushi on top and was very tasty. Also ordered the tunacado salad with seared tuna, avocado and crispy noodles.
