I found this wonderful dessert bar because of a review posted by Portland Elite Yelper, Ron R. My friends and I were extremely exhausted after spending the evening watching the Savannah Bananas baseball game at the T-Mobile Stadium. We'd grabbed dinner in Capitol Hill, but wanted to find dessert to take back to the hotel room. Initially resigned to simply stopping in an AM/PM, I did a quick Yelp search and found this amazing place. Open late on the weekends, R&M Dessert Bar has an extensive list of really delicious desserts and pastries to choose from. My friends and I ordered a wide selection of desserts to take back to our room, and I didn't expect the classy presentation for a take out order. Each dessert was elegantly packaged in glossy boxes with gold thread, then placed into a sturdy gift bag with a handle. Love is in the details at this place, my friends. Even though it was quite late when we got around to enjoying our treats, everything tasted fresh and delicious. The flourless chocolate cake was one of the best I've ever had, and the lemon tart was very memorable as well. It was buttery, sweet, tart, and oh, so yummy. The dessert bar has a few tables in their brick and mortar location, but I get a sense most people order their desserts to go. A perfectly okay bakery. We got the lemon raspberry tart, churro cake, and almond cake. We will not be going back for any of the three. The lemon tart is fine, nothing to write home about but at least made with good ingredients. It's adhered to its little travel cardboard using what seems to be cool whip or spreadable marshmallow. 3/5 Almond cake is moist but relatively flavorless, with a lil disk or orange white chocolate in the center. Not worth the hefty $9.5 price tag. Walked in on a whim and am so glad we did! Ordered a Chocolate Strawberry Mousse Dome and a Triple Chocolate Cake. The gentleman behind the counter heat up the cake for us. The mousse dome was fabulous! It was the perfect blend of chocolate and strawberry, and wasn't overpoweringly sweet. Pretty decent dessert bar off of pike. Came in late on Sunday night and got a triple chocolate cake along with a huckleberry pint. Both tasted pretty good and were decently priced for Seattle dessert standards. Cake was a bit dry and not very warm but it was at the end of the night so it's kind of fair. No sitting space available for customers was also a little annoying but it was raining and taking everything home wasn't a big deal. No samples for the ice cream was also a bit of a bummer too but the service itself was friendly and polite, would recommend if you want to support a local business and get a s sweet bite! read more

This is my absolute favorite dessert place and the owner/chef deserves so much love for the variety of desserts he makes. Every single dessert is such a hit too! Most recently, I had his chocolate strawberry mousse dome and that was so good. It's not absurdly sweet, chocolate was smooth, the mousse was even smoother. My only real complaint is that there's nowhere to eat his beautiful creations. There's no seating, so you'd have to bring it home, or to the park to eat it outside or something. But it's all so worth for a little sweet treat from R&M. Special shout outs to the owner too! The first time I came in, everything sounded so good so I asked him which was his favorite. He just said "they're all my favorites. Since I made them all". So much aura. And the target birds haha Overall 100/10! I was shopping in Capitol Hill when I walked by R&M Dessert Bar and had to stop in to satisfy my sweet tooth. The shop is a takeaway boutique where you walk up to the counter and order the pastries to-go. Their menu options change daily so you have no idea what they have available for the day. Everything in their visual menu display case looked gorgeous and I had a hard time choosing. I settled on the triple chocolate cake and raspberry mousse tart. The guy at the counter heated the chocolate cake before packing it. Unfortunately, since it's a small, little shop that doesn't have any seatings, you really can't enjoy your sweet treats right away. Also, while the desserts tasted good, they were really expensive @ $9 a piece. I have had similar desserts for much lesser price and better flavor. A unique dessert experience in that everything is takeout, so you can buy a bunch of desserts, warm them up yourself whenever, and eat from the comfort of your own home. I liked how everything was packaged nicely in microwave safe containers and also had instructions to warm them up. The downside to this is that I feel a lot of these desserts would've tasted better fresh. My favorite dessert was the Tres Leches cake, which is their most popular for a reason. The cake was soft and fluffy but kept moist by the generous milky soak which seemed to be lightly spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg. The cake itself wasn't too sweet which was good since the soak was on the sweeter side. The ice cream here is also really good and contends with the local ice cream specialty shops. I got the marionberry and cheesecake ice cream and it was delicious. The ice cream texture was soft and scoopable even right from the freezer. The base was rich and had a fresh dairy flavor. That combined with hints of fruitiness from the marionberry swirl and the chunks of cheesecake which had a slight tanginess and textural contrast was amazing. read more

Tiny dessert spot that feels like a pop-up inside a hotel, R&M does not have any seating and the hotel they're in asks you not to eat in the lobby. Very much a dessert takeout spot. Many reviews rave about the fruity options which unfortunately we did not try, so we must return to try them. Lack of ambiance and environment definitely hurts as they do offer heating up of desserts but you have to find somewhere else to enjoy them. Price also hurts, so despite being very tasty, I found the overall experience average at 3 stars. While rich and made with care, the desserts can be rather small for their price point. At nearly $10 before tip, each item is very small and easily cupped in your hand. Definitely a spot to wrap up the night but I'd honestly even consider another dessert spot beforehand and then wrap up the night here if anything. Price is very comparable to some fancy restaurant dessert, but it's not a fancy restaurant nor is the presentation necessarily above and beyond because they simply grab the dessert from the case and hand it off. Dark Chocolate Mousse with cocoa crumbles - tasted just like a classic mousse. Nothing special. Nothing particularly bad or good about this item, just an average dessert. S'mores Tart - least favorite item, the s'mores tart would be much better heated but we weren't told it was recommended like the triple chocolate cake. The inside had a caramel-like chocolate cream so it was hard to gauge. Would likely pass on this again. Triple Chocolate Cake - we were told this is much better heated so it was an option. Of course we got it heated to try. It's like a warm brownie with very rich chocolate. My second favorite item of the 4 but collectively we all called it our number two choice. Tres Leches Cake - the best item of these 4, agreed upon unanimously. Tres leches cakes are soaked in milk and have a spongey texture. This tres leches cake was super rich and creamy. A hidden gem on the bottom floor of Cove Apartments, as soon you enter the front door you are greeted by the sweet smell and unexpected store front, with a case full of beautiful deserts. We ordered the triple chocolate cake and tres leches cake to-go. I loved the attention to detail around the specific warming instructions provided with the chocolate cake. It says to microwave the cake for 25 seconds and the sauce for 8 seconds, which doesn't seem like a long time but, the sauce was so perfectly melted, I was beyond impressed at the accuracy. R&M used to have a small seating area, but since COVID hit it has been an exclusively take-out business. You walk in through a double set of doors and the shop with a counter of ready-made desserts is to the left. Each dessert costs around $10 and is relatively small - but mighty! These desserts are so sweet and rich, I doubt I could eat a larger portion. I picked up a chocolate bread pudding the other night, which came with a beautiful gift-worthy box, warming instructions, and a cup of vanilla bean ice cream. The chocolate was rich, and so intense that it was hard to remember I was eating a bread pudding, but it had that exact bread pudding texture I'd been craving. Without the ice cream it would have been too much, but with it, mmmmm. After one great experience I decided I wanted a birthday treat from R&M. I picked the tres leches cake this time, their most popular item. There was no fancy box for this one, just a simple aluminum pan. Once again, this is very sweet, gooey and light, with flavors of milk, cinnamon, caramel. I enjoyed it with a black coffee. I hope that someday they re-open for in-person dining. I always wanted to try their monthly Chef's Tasting Menu! We tried the signature tres leches cake (small, sweet doesn't have much milky taste) and the pumpkin bread pudding with ice cream. Neither were that impressive. I've had better tres leches cake from the Mexican grocery store. Definitely that worth the price tag. Service was good. They offered heat up the bread pudding. Tip: If you are looking for a place to sit and enjoy the dessert right away, there are seating available inside Amazon Fresh across the street. You just have to make a purchase to sit there. Chocolate raspberry tart- It's a bit reminiscent of chocolate pudding on top raspberry jam. Not quite my cup of tea, but it is an excellent crust. 3/5 Blueberry tart- This tasted like a classic blueberry pie with a nice crumb layer on top. Also the same great crust. My boyfriend surprised me with one of their takeout dessert flights and it was such a treat! The box we got had Coconut & chocolate bites, which were VERY coconutey, so if you like that you will love this. The chocolate is super creamy and smooth. The box also included a cannoli tart which was delicious, but there was a spice or ingredient or something in there I don't totally love. The pistachio tuiles were perfectly chewy, crispy, sweet, and nutty.
