They have limited hours and are not open on the weekends. They serve mostly the workers in the building and in the other buildings in the complex. There is limited free visitor parking at the front of the complex, which is to your left as soon as you enter (Whatta Sandwich is to your right). The time limit is 2 hours. There is paid parking owned by Indigo Parking for the office workers or if the visitors' lot is full. Whatta Sandwich sells mostly sandwiches, soups, salads and typical office cafeteria food. However, they also sell Korean food!! I had my heart set on the Bibimbap but discovered that the beef bulgogi has sesame seeds in it. Actually, most of their items were covered in sesame seeds such as their Japchae and their chunks of fried chicken in sauce. So the only Korean item I could have was the Katsu plate. I had the choice of chicken or pork and I chose the former. For $11.99 it comes with white rice, coleslaw and one deep fried dumpling. The chicken cutlet was lean chicken breast, and even though it was sitting in a warming tray, it was still pretty crispy. The Katsu sauce was tasty and not excessive in quantity. The rice was well cooked and had a nice texture. It wasn't too dry nor too mushy. The dumpling was good. It had ground meat and cabbage inside (I think it was ground chicken). The coleslaw was vinegar based, which I prefer to the mayo based ones. It was sweet and sour and went well with the meal. Service was to the point and efficient. Food was great for what is essentially an office cafeteria. It's comparable to food court Korean places like KORYO Korean BBQ and Kim Chi Korean Delight. I love finding little hidden places like this :)

The cafeteria style restaurant is shiny clean. The workers are super friendly. The main Chef, (The owner) was friendly, and welcoming. The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. District Deli only has cold sandwiches. No hot sandwiches, at least not at the time of the writing of this review. Service was courteous and efficient. Street parking only. Review #118 (2025)

Prepare to be amazed............... We had heard about his place for months and how awesome it was so we finally decided to try it out. When we got there at mid-day on a Saturday there was a line up out the door. My wife suggested we go for a walk to let the line thin out a but. We got back and the line had thinned out so we went in. They have a set number of sandwiches and you can also make your own, but we decided to try their set sandwiches. I got the Parkdale and the Holland, my wife got the Bayswater, and we picked up a Scott for my daughter. When we got home, we were nothing short of blown away. The quality of the sandwich was amazing - the bread was light and fluffy, a ton of meat, fresh veggies, great sauces, just incredible quality. More importantly, fantastic value for money. Even more importantly, the staff were wonderful - they chatted with us but kept the line moving - super professional and friendly. The quality of the sandwiches here rivals Old Tyme - no word of a lie. The bread they use is very very close to what we had in Lafayette and the quality of the fillings is outstanding. Don't walk, run to this place. It will change your life for what you think about sandwiches.

If you've had…read morethe Pakistani fusion pizza at Al Raheem Grocery and Shinwari BBQ & Pizza Restaurant, it's definitely different from that. I was in the mood for a vegetarian snack, so I got a small shaahi paneer pizza. It came with Indian gravy, butter-marinated cottage cheese (paneer), onions, and bell peppers. You have the option of spice level - mild, medium, hot, or extra hot. My husband wanted to try it, but he's usually "a mild man", as he says, and I like more heat, so I got medium spice for something in between. The onions and peppers still had some crunch, which I really enjoyed. There was enough paneer and distributed evenly in medium-sized cubes throughout the pizza, about two cubes per slice for a small pizza. There was a good amount of mozzarella, too. There are important details for a cheese lover like me, haha. There wasn't too much gravy/sauce, but still very flavourful and nice spice, not too hot. The crust was thin but not too thin, crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Such a great pizza! My husband enjoyed it so much that we ordered a large butter chicken pizza. It's the same as the shaahi paneer pizza, but with pieces of chicken thigh. The chicken was very tender and flavourful, though I have to say I think I enjoyed the paneer better. We also got paneer poppers, with six in an order. They were pieces of paneer marinated in mint-flavoured sauce, breaded with panko-style bread crumbs, and fried. They were crispy on the outside, soft inside, and also had good flavour with some spice. It wasn't heavy on the mint. It said creamy garlic sauce "onside" on UberEats, which for some reason I thought was a typo for "inside", but it really does mean creamy garlic sauce on the side. I wish I realized because I ordered creamy garlic sauce on the side with the pizza and it ended up being the pre-packaged Heinz dipping sauce that we then had two of. I had hoped it would be homemade. We'll order from here again for sure, but I want to try one of the homemade dipping sauces next time, like truffle green onion mayo.

They've been around for over 30 years actually. In 2003 they were acquired by the MTY Group, and they saw almost a doubling in the number of locations across Canada (they have about 45 locations now). Although they have always been a chain, I do find that with time, they have become "more chain-like" if that makes sense. In days past they were more like those little independent panini shops where different types of panini were pre-made and laid out, then pressed to order. Even though the sandwiches were pre-made they always tasted fresh (they'd be made every morning). And there would be big bowls of pre-made salads, like pasta salad, bean salad, couscous salad, etc. Now things are more made-to-order, which you think would be a good thing, but it just feels more like a Subway Sandwiches now, lol. There's only one Cultures Restaurant in all of Ottawa (this one at Bayshore Shopping Centre) and only 2 in the whole National Capital Region (the other one is on Gatineau). There are lots in Toronto and in Montreal. My first time eating at Cultures was in Toronto with my mom when I was a kid. We ate at food courts a lot, it was good times, lol. I do like Cultures in general, but this location is not as nice as the ones in Toronto and Montreal. And of course, not as nice as Cultures of days past ;) Still a good place to grab a healthier meal at the food court though.

It came in at about $10, while the hubby bragged that his chili and a bun came in at about half that price. I'm only giving it a 3-star, although I'd want to give more - simply because of the fresh alternative spin of Cultures. My salad was topped with blueberries and strawberries, a nice dressing, and... ummmm... was it cous cous? It was tasty, almost to the bottom. However, the bottom half of my salad was very full of ... kale. Yay kale! NOT. It's so bitter! However, I would revisit this review again, given a few months... once the lettuce scare is over and fresh crops have ripened! If it's better next time, I will update this review at that time.

This sandwich is literally the reason I downloaded this app…read more I've just spent the whole winter in Quebec and am now hitchhiking across Canada and decided to stay in Ottawa a few days. I booked 4 nights at the Saintlo jail hostel and when I came downstairs after a rejuvenating nap I saw that they had a list of recommendations sitting amongst a pile of other plastic sheets. Dirienzo's - the best ITALIAN SANDWICH in the city. I'm not really an Italian sandwich sort of person normally, maybe it was contributed by the burgeoning like for cured meats that I was acquiring after eating dried salami as my only source of food for the past week or so -- but who's going to pass up the chance to try the BEST of anything? I got there after taking 2 buses and was starting to become a bit concerned. I had $40 in my account and was hitchhiking across the country -- after all it was labelled the BEST in the city and that would normally come with a hefty price tag. When I first opened the door I instantly got greeted by the guy behind the counter, which made me feel welcomed and at ease. I looked up to view the selection of sandwiches that they had on offer and potentially the cheaper ones. I was surprised to see the sign that said $10 for ANY SANDWICH!! #booyah I was finding it hard to decide on which of the sandwiches to get since they all looked so appetising, but decided on number 16. The sandwich was massive for the price that it was. The bread was a perfect mix between durable so that it wouldn't fall apart in your hands, but soft enough that it was enjoyable, with the amount of bread contemplating he rest of the fillings just the right amount. I was pretty overwhelmed to be honest with how good it was. All of the ingredients including the lettuce (which I've found is usually the first thing places will skimp out on) were extremely fresh. I put in my coworker groupchat: "Anyone coming over across Canada after the season has to make a stop in Ottawa if they aren't already just to try one of these." Accompanied by a photo of my eyes watering with glee. My Nonna is always telling me how I need to learn Italian to be more connected to our culture and I've always just kindof brushed it off since I haven't needed to use it and we don't speak it much at home, but this has made me so proud to be Italian. As I continued to eat the sandwich sitting on a bench looking towards the city and the people playing basketball in the park, I found myself contemplating staying in Canada and raising my kids here in Ottawa so that they get to experience it themselves on a warm summer afternoon after picking them up from school.
