I went here with the fam on Christmas eve and it was nice, but I found the food to be ho hum, considered it was $40 plus $1 more for the holiday pricing. It was super packed so it was very hard to navigate and get into the hot bar items. Sushi was OK, and was constantly available, but again, hard to get into due to it being super busy. There were a lot of guests pushing their way to get food, and no real line setup. It was kinda a "free for all." Desserts were OK, but I think the Orleans Mandarin had a better setup and had more? Was in the mood for some Chinese buffet Location on hunt club road not to far from airport. Tons of free parking and well lighten sign to find the place. When you walk in you can tell you are in for a treat. As soon as you are walked in you are greeted by friendly staff. We had reservations which are highly recommended as they are busy. It's a buffet but you can tell they take pride in there food and cleanliness of the place. It had all the thé favorite dishes and plus they had stations of grilled meats and smoked meats. Such as prime rib and roasted led of lamb. We had so much variety but will highlight a few Roasted leg of lamb was super tender and you could cut it with a spoon. Very tender and seasoned well. Went back for seconds. The Chinese food was bang on and was never cold. So many choices and all were done with flavour and taste. This is one of the nice buffets I've seen. We showed up no joke 30 mins before closing and we were still treated very nicely. The waitresses were so friendly and attentive. Since we told her it was our first time there as she was walking us to our table she explained all the different offerings. They had everting fried & white rice, 3 different kinds of noodles, ribs, shrimp, Chinese dishes like sesame & bourbon chicken. They also had ribs, salmon, and a craving station. With many different kinds of dessert. Fun fact: since I was on vacation I was told that they would exchange my USD for CAD and it was at a fair rate. Out meal for 2 came. Up to $58. My oh my what a surprise this place was !! We came down to ottawa for the weekend and we decided to try this place out as the reviews looked wonderful and my husband's mom begged us to try it.. we don't usually like buffets as it's not very fresh and most buffets are sub par and just completely wrong. However, I was in shocked to see a great amount of people waiting for a table. It was a 45min wait to get a table but when we finally did it felt nice ! the restaurant is divided in different sections and it's very well organized.. each section has it's own waiters etc! Service: 5+++++++ It was Amazing. The moment we were called to our table, the lady greeted us and told us to enjoy our meal the second lady handed us a fresh warm cloth to clean our hands with and I found that extremely clever! The food : 5+++++ The food was delicious fresh and flavourful they had tons of varieties and everything looked so delicious!!! I am triple disappointed with my last attempt to visit Mandarin. First: birthday coupon. I have been a customer for many years and used to receive the birthday coupon in about two weeks before my birthday - it gave me the time to plan a visit one week before or after the birthday. This time the coupon arrived exactly on my birthday, making it impossible to come prior and cutting the coupon in half timewise. Second: customer service. Prior to make the reservation I checked at the website and noticed that you reduced the "small eats" concept to only two times a week - Monday and Tuesday lunch. I made the reservation for Monday (Dec.5) lunch specifically mentioned (by phone) that our company would have "small eats". The person who took the reservation confirmed "small eats". Imagine our disappointment when we came to the restaurant to discover that Mandarin discontinued the "small eats" concept. Third: business decision - eliminating "small eats" concept is the biggest drawback for me. I thought that the idea was brilliant, allowing us to pay reasonable price for what we actually eat, without stuffing ourselves in order to justify the stiff price of the buffet. I hoped that the "small eats" will become the permanent feature of Mandarin. By eliminating this concept the restaurant effectively lost me and thousand potential customers. read more

The Mandarin has a great selection. Lots of typical Chinese food, fresh sushi and some roast beef as well. The ice cream selection is good and also some soft serve frozen yogurt available. Lots of desserts to pick from. One of my favourite parts was the warm towel to wash my hands upon arrival and again when we received the bill. Mom and I decided to have a little mother-daughter lunch here after bowling one day. Little is probably the wrong word to use at a buffet, though. They had most of (if not all) of our favourites- sweet and sour chicken balls, lemon chicken, hot and sour soup, sushi, etc... if you've had it before at an Asian buffet in Ottawa, they likely have it here, too. What I enjoy the most is that the selection is not that different during the week compared to weekends. We've had Sunday dinner here before and I think the only thing that I noticed missing when we went on a Wednesday at lunch, were the crab legs (I was not distraught, since I don't really eat seafood). The best part, is that lunch during the week is only $20, and seniors get 20 percent off. Funny thing about that is they actually will check your ID to be sure you're actually a senior (my mom, not me!) The service is pretty good. You get a hot towel both before, and after your meal, and the servers are really great about topping up your water...which is pretty key if you want to avoid a food coma. BONUS: If you're celebrating a birthday they'll sing for you, and take a polaroid photo of you in a big hat! All in all, it's worth trying if you enjoy the occasional all you can eat! read more

I go to the mandarin on special occasions but I do not eat meat or chicken. That being said the offerings were very limited and it wasn't really worth what I paid. Out of their 10 sushi selections for example, I could only eat 3 which was very boring. My plates consisted of: sushi, mashed potatoes, noodles, shrimp, salmon, and some vegetables. We made reservations at 11:30 and after 20 minutes the place was packed. The food never ran out and stayed hot which was nice. Customer service was amazing but I am not sure if they are bilingual (if that matters). read more

Visited Mandarin on Hunt Club for Lunch with co-workers to celebrate my birthday. NOTE: You can eat for free at Mandarin for your birthday, when you go with 3 people or more, as long as you sign up on their website before your birthday. I signed up with my e-mail and received a coupon a day before my birthday. I went with 5 co-workers and was not charged for my lunch. We had called to make a reservation the day before, so we were seated right away when we arrived at noon. It was already very busy but the noise level was not as high as I thought it might be. It probably helps that the different dining rooms are separated by walls and nice aquariums. Amazing service! Right away our waitress came to give us warm towels and asked if we wanted anything to drink. Our water glasses were refilled frequently during our meal and the plates were taken away quickly. The buffet is huge! I had been to Mandarin in Toronto a few years ago but I forgot how much variety there is. And how delicious it is! It's worth the price for lunch just for the quality of the food alone. I really enjoyed the beef cabbage roll, different types of Asian noodles, grilled chicken and sushi. The dessert section was the biggest I have ever seen. I couldn't decide what I wanted to try because there were so many choices. The froyo was good, but not as good as I remember it being in Toronto. So many delicious cakes and pastries! The blueberry pie and the bread puddings shined through everything else, though the mango pudding and the mini beaver tails were super good too. I found this place cause for my brother's graduation my parent's ask if I could find an all you can eat buffet that is cheap, but reasonable. When you walk in you get this nice scenery and you get these nice little ponds when you walk in and get this nice cozy feel and vibe about it. When you get to your table you walk by the food station and get a glance at what you want to get, and the food smells amazing. The meat is juicy and tender. The ribs just fall off the bone pretty much, and the sushi is on point! There is a lot of seafood which is good for me cause I love seafood. The duck is amazing, the teriyaki meatballs are amazing. You get this soft inside but a slightly crunchy outside. You can fall in love with these meatballs I'm telling you. The first time we went they had crab legs but never can seem to find them again because we go mostly go on the weekdays and not weekends. It's a bit costly so make sure you bring a lot of money cause for 7 people with 6 people getting root beer 1 person getting coffee and the other just having water came up to a little over $250! The price is a bit on the expensive side but that's not a complaint cause the food is well worth it. We kept going on every event, for birthday's, and other small little things in between. Best service experienced! This is usually the spot to hit for birthdays so I've been here many many times and each time the service is phenomenal. Each staff member is polite and everyone greets you upon entering. The waters/drinks are refilled even before they are completely emptied. The empty dishes are removed just as quickly. You get hot towels before and after your meal to clean your hands! The food is also phenomenal. The selection is amazing...especially the DESSERT! Best dessert selection ever. Hands down...best buffet ever. It is a bit more expensive than other buffet but so worth the price. Weekends are even more expensive but I'd only recommend going on the the weekend dinners if you're into the extra special offerings like crab legs. I had a great dinner at mandarin with my boyfriend and his parents a few months ago. the all you can eat sushi bar, lemon chicken, eggplant, grilled broccoli, and sweet & sour pork were excellent. I wish we got to try the crab legs after reading these reviews! are they only offered weekends/holidays? we went on a monday night and the crab legs werent there. my only complaints were the drinks. my singapore sling was overly syrupy/sweet and hard to drink. some of my other dining companions ordered beers which were skunked, but the waitress was kind enough to replace w/ a different brand. read more

By far this is the best buffet in and around the Ottawa area. People may complain it is $3 or $4 more but the selection, flavor, quality and service is stand alone worth triple the cost more. The quality of food and the menu selection can't be beaten there!! That is why it is lined up out the door every time. Yesterday, Aug 14th my wife and youngest son decided to take a break and venture back to our sons preferred Chinese food! The staff are very welcoming, however, the food has gone from very good to mediocre; my sons words, and we had to agree with him! The food was alright but by far not close to the standards of past! Very disappointing! The other thing that caught our eyes that patrons, though told to put on protective gloves prior to getting food at the buffet, numerous did not and nothing was done to discourage doing so! I don't think we'll be back, but thanks to the greeters and waiters that tried to make our stay pleasant, but the food was lacking, some over cooked, others without the taste of what we came there for!
