The half and half Engineer and brocolli soup
    Jessica L.

So I love this location of firehouse subs. The food is always fresh and tasty and the service is great. I got the half and half, I got the engineer and brocolli soup. There was a great meat, to veggie to bread ratio. If you like subs, and want something better quality than subway, give these guys a shot. Just keep in mind that not all firehouse sub locations are the same.

Love, love firehouse sub so much . Since I discovered this place is my go-to for subs, so many options, easy to order and always so fresh . I tried their Italian sub the first time I went and fell completely in love , until I decided to try something else and tried the brisket with cheddar sub is definitely my new favourite. Their portions are big, price is reasonable and quality is amazing .

These subs are delicious! I love the firehouse meatball, the steak and cheese and the beef brisket. Ingredients are fresh, and portions are fairly big. The sandwiches are on the pricier side and whenever I have gone there was a bit of a wait but I think it's worth it!

Seriously.....seriously...seriously....I have not had a sub as good as the one I just ate EVER! Popped in here tonight (Friday), and it was pretty busy. Ordered the footlong veggie on white bread with extra pickles and jalapenos and I think I went to heaven when I took my first bite. From the bread to the toppings and sauce, it was delish! I like how you can add on additional toppings when ordering at the cash like pickles or jalapenos. P.S....They actually use real chopped deli pickles on their subs...bonus points for them! The layout is kind of like five guys...you order...then wait...and your name is called when your sub is ready. I also like how they welcome each guest to the store by yelling out "welcome to firehouse subs!". Not too sure how long that will last, but its a nice gesture. Also tried the fresh baked chocolate chip cookie and it was scrumptious! Only comment would be to get better take out containers for the sauces, Hard to get the lid off once its on without it splattering everywhere. Speaking of sauces, they have A LOT of hot sauces as well as their specialty firehouse bbq sauce...SOOO GOOD! On that note, I am so excited Firehouse Subs just opened around the block from me, and I know I am going to be at this place frequently.

    - I have visited this Firehouse location 3x now (still the sole location in Ottawa), and I have tasted their Meatball, Steak & Cheese and Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket - Upon entry, you will be greeted with "Welcome to Firehouse" by the staff - however, this has been somewhat muffled during my visits so far (likely due to the ambient sound, and the staff do not always harmoniously greet). Despite this, it still adds a uniquely refreshing customer experience that none of their direct competitors (Subway, Quiznos) offer. - There is a thematic firefighter atmosphere throughout the restaurant (decked in firefighter equipment, gear and memorabilia, which all has been donated). The murals on the wall are also very appealing. - So you almost want to dine-in rather than take-out (both are offered obviously). If you dine-in, they plate the subs in food baskets, which adds a certain aesthetic appeal over just the standardized wrapping. For take-out, they package the subs in cartons, which I find protects the sub from accidental squashing (my Subway sandwiches have definitely been squashed in the past, as I normally stow food in my backpack when I am on the move)   - Firehouse is also a charitable company that serves the local community. In fact, during one of my visits (shown in one of my uploaded pics), they were offering a complimentary medium sub for bringing in an unopened 24-pack of bottled water. The water was going to the local fire and police departments for distribution to those in need. - One minor gripe about Firehouse was probably the line queuing: I have ordered during the peak and off-peak times. Firehouse does not employ the same order-pay line configuration as Subway/Quiznos. - So the first line at Firehouse is to order/pay, which was always acceptably small. - However, the counter to await your food was about 5 people deep during all my visits. There is no TV monitor to indicate order numbers or progression (as like McDonalds). So there has been some confusion with sequentially fulfilling orders or customer names associated with the an order.   - Circling back to their competitors though, I do not believe that Subway/Quiznos can really hold a candle to Firehouse. Yes, Subway boasts their low calorie menu, and Firehouse conversely promotes to satiate your appetite (it is actually stated on their packaging "we cater to firefighter-sized appetites"). - In fact, here is a brief comparison: 1. Subway (http://www.subway.com/en-ca/menunutrition/menu/all ) - Meatball Marinara 6" for ~4.30$ : 490 Calories, Fat 18g, Cholesterol 40mg, Sodium 1030mg, Carbs 60g, Sugars 12g, Protein 22g - Steak & Cheese 6" for ~6.50$: 380 Calories, Fat 10g, Cholesterol 50mg, Sodium 1030mg, Carbs 49g, Sugars 9g, Protein 26g 2. Quiznos (http://www.quiznos.ca/en/) - Black Angus Steak 9" for ~7.99$ (mozzarella, cheddar sautéed onion, sautéed mushrooms, honey bourbon mustard, zesty grille sauce): Calories 740, Fat 22g, Cholesterol 95mg, Sodium 2040mg, Carbs 88g, Sugars 23g, Protein 47g 3. Firehouse (https://www.nutritionix.com/firehouse-subs/menu/premium) - Meatball 8" for 7.49$ (parmesan cheese + marinara sauce + meatballs + white sub roll + provolone cheese): Calories 840, Fat 50g, Cholesterol 100mg, Sodium 1910mg, Carbs 61g, Sugars 9g, Protein 37g - Steak & Cheese 8" for 8.99$ (au jus bell peppers + au jus onions + mayo + white sub roll + provolone cheese + sauteed choice steak + spicy mustard): Calories 820, Fat 51g, Cholesterol 110mg, Sodium 2010mg, Carbs 52g, Sugars 6g, Protein 38g - So yes, Firehouse may not be recommended for the highly-dietary-conscious individuals. - My subs have always been stacked high with meat, which is actually steamed. Steaming meat can actually prevent overcooking and burning, which could be great within this fast food category (as I have reluctantly eaten overcooked/burned meat on Subway/Quiznos subs in the past). - I actually prefer Firehouse's sizing over Subway, because I find that I am over-satiated with Subway's 12", yet still famished with their 6". I find Firehouse's 8" are always right-sized for my appetite (however, this may be subjective since I have a thinner body frame ;). - Yes, Quiznos offers 9" subs, but I would still likely gravitate towards Firehouse, since they seem to offer more signature subs and somewhere north of 40 different sauces! - Furthermore, they house this revolutionary Coca-Cola dispenser, which apparently stocks 120+ drink options

Firehouse never fails me. Good food brings a crowd so the service was a bit slow. That's expected though when you are there at lunch time.

I do frequent this location from time to time and the building does need some maintenance and a good deep clean. This location is probably the second busiest location that I have ventured into, aside from Bank street. The interior is starting to show some wear and tear. The last time that I was here, which was early December of this year, the whole entrance, leading up the cash was a puddle. They had a fan next to the cash/display case to try and air out the restaurant. There was dried splatter on most of the art on the wall. Bathrooms were lacking hand soap and not clean. The restaurant did not feel clean. Service was friendly, ,bagel was fine. They have added some new items to the menu, like tater tots, which were really hard, burnt and just not good. They also reduced the size of the pickles that they serve with the bagels to a sliver. Its quiet humorous. It used to be a quarter of a pickle (Take a look at my past photos that I uploaded). If you are in the area, and craving a bagel, they do make some of the best in the city, but best to grab them and bring them home.

Nice, faint crunch on the exterior, soft interior with still some bite to make it a delicious bagel. We enjoyed the classic kettlemen bagel sandwich which had smooth cream cheese, salty capers and rich and fatty smoked salmon. Everything worked really well with the fresh bagel. 5/5. We also tried the oven roasted chicken bagel sandwich. The chicken was okay, it works as a sandwich but not my favorite. 4/5 but the bagel carries this. Price is not bad for lunch meal.

This sandwich is literally the reason I downloaded this app…read more I've just spent the whole winter in Quebec and am now hitchhiking across Canada and decided to stay in Ottawa a few days. I booked 4 nights at the Saintlo jail hostel and when I came downstairs after a rejuvenating nap I saw that they had a list of recommendations sitting amongst a pile of other plastic sheets. Dirienzo's - the best ITALIAN SANDWICH in the city. I'm not really an Italian sandwich sort of person normally, maybe it was contributed by the burgeoning like for cured meats that I was acquiring after eating dried salami as my only source of food for the past week or so -- but who's going to pass up the chance to try the BEST of anything? I got there after taking 2 buses and was starting to become a bit concerned. I had $40 in my account and was hitchhiking across the country -- after all it was labelled the BEST in the city and that would normally come with a hefty price tag. When I first opened the door I instantly got greeted by the guy behind the counter, which made me feel welcomed and at ease. I looked up to view the selection of sandwiches that they had on offer and potentially the cheaper ones. I was surprised to see the sign that said $10 for ANY SANDWICH!! #booyah I was finding it hard to decide on which of the sandwiches to get since they all looked so appetising, but decided on number 16. The sandwich was massive for the price that it was. The bread was a perfect mix between durable so that it wouldn't fall apart in your hands, but soft enough that it was enjoyable, with the amount of bread contemplating he rest of the fillings just the right amount. I was pretty overwhelmed to be honest with how good it was. All of the ingredients including the lettuce (which I've found is usually the first thing places will skimp out on) were extremely fresh. I put in my coworker groupchat: "Anyone coming over across Canada after the season has to make a stop in Ottawa if they aren't already just to try one of these." Accompanied by a photo of my eyes watering with glee. My Nonna is always telling me how I need to learn Italian to be more connected to our culture and I've always just kindof brushed it off since I haven't needed to use it and we don't speak it much at home, but this has made me so proud to be Italian. As I continued to eat the sandwich sitting on a bench looking towards the city and the people playing basketball in the park, I found myself contemplating staying in Canada and raising my kids here in Ottawa so that they get to experience it themselves on a warm summer afternoon after picking them up from school. The Long Version: I love trying new restaurants. I also love scoring deals, lol. I have this app called Too Good to Go, where you can buy "surprise bags" from stores and it's food they have leftover at the end of the day. You can't choose what you get though and there's a designated time window when you have to pick it up. I saw Myra's on the app and I was already in the area doing other things and the pickup time worked out, so I figured why not give it a try. I got their lunch surprise bag for $7.99. Pick up was easy. After lunch they close for a few hours before dinner so pick up time was right after their lunch service closed. There was a staff member mopping the floor and when I told her I was there for my Too Good to Go order she went to get it. She was courteous and efficient. I got 3 small pieces of breaded chicken fillets, pilaf rice, peas and carrots and a small salad. It was all packaged in a cardboard takeout box. To me the chicken tasted like frozen stuff you get at Costco Business Centre or food suppliers like Sysco. I felt the meat tasted processed, like the chicken breasts that are pumped with salt water before being frozen. The rice was soft and fluffy but on the salty side for my liking. Peas and carrots were ok. The salad was fresh, no wilted leaves. The food tasted like it was made that day and wasn't stale or spoiled, so I'm glad they are using the Too Good to Go app as intended and not to offload garbage like I've heard some restaurants do. Not a bad deal for $8. Was I wowed by the food? No. But was it perfectly acceptable? Yes. A-OK by me. Free parking in the hotel parking lot. Review #19 (2025)
