Nampa, Idaho September 2026…read more HOLy COW! What a great restaurant. This brick lined restaurant sits on the corner in downtown Nampa. The menu is mostly sandwiches with a few appetizers and salads. Booths line the restaurant, with tables and metal chairs in the center. Restaurant is extremely clean. All the tables have a mason jar of fresh flowers. They have paper napkins with real cutlery. There is a large room adjacent to the restaurant that they are converting to a bar. Specific for those 21 and over. As of the end of September, it is not completed . Our waitress is Morgan. She also is the manager of the restaurant for the evening. What a delightful, outgoing, personable girl. So glad we had the opportunity of having her serve us this evening. I ordered the Yardbird minus the bacon. It comes on a ciabatta roll with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and red onion. The roll was slightly toasted. The chicken is accompanied with a pesto sauce which I put on the side. I think the chicken is marinated. It had a delicious flavor and very moist. I accompanied it with the french fries. They are beer battered and I asked for extra crispy. Ask for the fry sauce. It is a ketchup, mayonnaise, horseradish mixed with spices. Absolutely delicious. My suggestion for the sandwich would be to melt the cheese. Mine came out, not melted just sitting on top of my chicken sandwich. My husband ordered a cheeseburger with the extra crispy fries. He said the roll was buttered and it made the entire meal. This is a little extra that a restaurant can do to elevate their hamburger. Score!! The music is too loud for the restaurant. It was difficult to have conversation. I would get the following scores: Food - 5 Ambience-4.5 (took off metal chairs and loud music) Service- 5 (Morgan was phenomenal) Overall rating 4.8

They are pretty okay with Chinese food but don't order american food! and BEWARE! of hidden fees, this place is "Quik Wok / Ben's Family Restaurant" and they boast "Chinese and American food" (JOKE) My wife and I are on the Paleo diet and went in for a steak at 5:30pm, an entree comes with the normal choices: salad, roll, potato, veggies or fruit, so I ordered a 6oz sirloin (medium), and asked if I could sub the potato and roll and just have the veggies and fruit. the salad was fine but it took almost an hour to get our meal and when it arrived at the table it was incinerated and tough as shoe leather, and the waiter said sorry we are out of veggies (at 6:30pm!) and to top that off the fruit cup consisted of 6 measly chunks of watermelon. we both choked it down expecting some kind of credit on the bill, no dice! they brought the bill it was $27 and to add insult to injury they tacked on an additional 3.5% "admin fee" because I paid with a debit card. WTF PEOPLE! we live in Kuna and we support local business but this place is crossed off our list and should be crossed off yours. read more

The bbq pork pieces in the rice are so good. I love the fried shrimp. The lady at the front counter is so nice we love her! The prices are incredible seriously like 2008 prices! This is truly the best Chinese food in Boise and it's right off of state! The amount of food you get for the price is insane and super worth it! Great restaurant on the inside nice and quite very low key. If generosity were a flavor, New Garden Chinese Restaurant would be a Michelin-star contender…read more We ordered a couple of combination dinner plates and a hot and sour soup, and let me tell you--this wasn't a meal, it was a logistical event. The bags arrived promptly, steaming like they had just been hustled out of the wok and into our lives with purpose. Credit where it's due: delivery was fast, everything was hot, and the sheer volume of food bordered on heroic. This is the kind of place that feeds not just your table, but possibly your entire week. Visually? No notes. Golden egg roll, glossy sauces, that comforting, familiar American-Chinese glow that promises indulgence and maybe a nap afterward. And yes, it delivered on the nap. This is heavy food--the kind that makes you loosen a belt and reconsider your evening plans. But then... the flavor. The hot and sour soup leaned a little too enthusiastically into the "sweet" side of its personality, like it had somewhere else to be and rushed the "sour" part. The egg roll came in bold--very bold--with a five-spice presence that kicked the door in, rearranged the furniture, and didn't really ask if you wanted that kind of energy. Across the board, things landed in that curious middle ground: low mein, fried rice not bad, not offensive, just... there. Like a cover band that knows all the notes but hasn't quite found the groove. To be fair, this is American Chinese comfort food in Boise, not a culinary pilgrimage. And in that lane, New Garden absolutely delivers on value, portion size, and speed. You will not go hungry. You may, however, find yourself wishing the flavors hit with the same confidence as the portions. So: shoutout to the delivery game. Shoutout to the sheer abundance. But flavor-wise? It's a polite shrug with potential. Would I order again? Maybe--on a day when quantity feels more important than nuance, and I'm ready to commit to leftovers as a lifestyle.

She also speaks Chinese to whomever is doing the cooking in the kitchen behind her that diners can't see into through the high open widow space into it but one can hear the sounds of cooking and Chinese being spoken. In that exchange it is also friendly and maybe even familial. In my book it is the delightful attitude that adds the extra star to rating. And as much as local people are boo-hooing about the closure in this calendar year (2025) of a number of long time Chinese food restaurants in the greater Treasure Valley, from Middleton to Nampa to Garden City and Boise, it seems they want to be super critical of the true little mom-n-pop places like this. Just saying. THE FOOD: This Cantonese - Mandarin menu is structured to appeal to American palates for diners who think Orange Chicken or General Tsao's are real things. That isn't my husband and me given we have been able to enjoy some extraordinary Chinese cuisine via Chinatowns in NYC and SF when we lived there and in Portland (OR) too when there was briefly a restaurant with Xinjiang dishes. But even for us there are things here to appreciate (although, as with all Chinese food places where we do not know the owners personally, we focus on vegetarian options) and if one is looking for Chinese food to take away, one can do a lot worse than this. Dishes (rice included) are generously sized and are in the $12 - 14 range. Noodle dishes maybe around $12. THE SPACE & SEATING: If you are planning to go for the first time, you need to know the space is very small, a handful of booths split between both sides of the room, and a round table in the middle. Also, because it is small, they are going to occasionally have things like bags of rice and other supplies stacked on the floor outside the kitchen. For that reason I am unable to report if the loo is unisex or not because I couldn't get to it on the only eat-in visit because of the supplies that had just been delivered and stacked in the way. And on that note, in the vein of everything being connected to everything else, the owner and delivery driver had a delightful conversation as if they were old friends through this connection of supplier and owner. Our preference here is take-out and we note there seems to be a brisk business for them in that. PARKING: This is a sort of old time Western town themed strip mall in Star (which at one time may have been thought of as that kind of town but which has been gentrified of late by out of state - read California homebuyers) and it has a parking lot. ACCESSIBILITY: ADA parking in the lot. The round table seating might work for a wheelchair user but I didn't look at it closely. Other than that, booth seating. Days later, the city condemned the entire building, saying that a seemingly never-ending project by the building's owner to replace a basement floor had rendered the building unsafe. What had been expected to be a two-month closure has lingered for nearly two years as the building owner and the city have fought in court to get the building made safe again. As a result, Mai Thai, which had operated in the Union Block for 20 years has been largely homeless for nearly two years. They reopened at the kitchen of the defunct Crave delivery service in Meridian, a ghost kitchen concept, offering takeout and delivery far from the restaurant's Boise base. In early August, Mai Thai opened at a Boise ghost kitchen, only it's owner Billy Pothikamjorn and his staff running the place, not contacted workers with no ties to the actual restaurant. Mai Thai was located close to our home in Boise's West End and its new location is even closer. It's located in the West End Food Co. on Main Street. We ordered Hat Yai fried chicken, street food from Thailand topped with crispy shallots and served with yellow curry, roti and ginger rice. I had drunken noodles and Kristy and I shared an order of paratha a type of roti bread) with Japanese pumpkin green curry. Everything was excellent. Pothikamjorn took my order and prepared the food, so I knew it was going to have the same quality as when they were in their downtown location. Service is mostly restricted to takeout and free delivery if you live within a six-mile radius. There's a few tables outside, but it's on the sunny side of the street and during the hot summer likely isn't too inviting. I'm glad to see Billy and his crew back in Boise. They were among the restaurants that sustained us during Covid with their home delivery so we're happy they've persevered despite the troubles at their former location.
