I purchased a Huawei laptop a few years ago for work/school reasons. A few months ago, my daughter used a wet wipe to clean the keyboard and the laptop stopped working due to the keyboard reacting with the moisture. I tried flipping the keyboard upside down and using a blow dryer to dry out the remaining moisture but to no avail. At this point, I honestly knew that this would not be an easy fix because the parts for Huawei (Chinese owned) are hard to attained ( Trump blocked it), and I order to get to the keyboard, one would need to go through the CPU and mess with the tiny components/screws. Beware the guy with the Russian accent and the certificate on the wall with a Russian name. He used "Mike Boulder" with me. The experience that prompts me awarding the lowest rating possible took place November, 2017. Long story, shortened. I'm a photojournalist who wiped out 90% of photos I needed after covering a fundraiser...deadline was 48 hours, with a day or so of wiggle room. The event was especially for kids, so I didn't want to disappoint them. Tried a data recovery program on my own, didn't work. Called a few places and got $70 to $100 estimates. I was only getting $125 for the project. Last place I called was this one. I explained everything and my deadline, and I heard the guy on the phone say $70. OK, you're on. (Please note I have excellent hearing.) His office is closet-sized, he was the only one there. I signed the work order (no payment listed), and added my own note "no charge till work is OK'd." He said he would have to keep my laptop overnight. My e-mail was listed as the only contact. The next afternoon, I received an e-mail from Mike Boulder ON ONE OF MY OTHER E-MAIL ACCOUNTS. It listed his name and company, but was blank, and weird, like he tried to un-send it. The whole format was something I'd never seen before. How did he get that e-mail account? Was he snooping around my laptop? I was creeped out. That feeling continued after I received a work-completion e-mail sent a bit later to the account I provided (looking like a regular e-mail), and I arrived at his office. He had me ID photos I needed, then transferred about 300 old images along with the 50 I needed. THEN he tried to sell me security software. No thanks. I said, "So I owe you $50 right?" He answered. "No, $250." I laughed and said, yeah right. He said, "No. $250. I have a tape of our phone conversation." And honestly, he looked so smarmy and self-satisfied that I need to bolt. I paid up, didn't ask about the weird e-mail to an address I didn't give him, and bolted. But not before I told him not to expect a great review. Make sure you get the dollar estimate in writing. I was smart enough to add a note to the work order about not charging till work was accepted, but was so stressed out I didn't confirm the price when I OK'd the work. Don't let it happen to you. Me? Where to even begin! I owe so much to Max at Qubex for saving all my memories. I had a minor panic attack when my iPhone 6 plus was plugged in charging while I was sleeping and the charging cord melted at the base/dock of my phone causing irreversible damage to the phone. My iPhone completely died and would not hold a charge nor turn back on. While a huge inconvenience that my device was dead, I was more distraught that all my wedding and honeymoon photos from just the previous week were not backed up and or saved to the cloud. At one point I went to Denver Data Recovery who wanted $1200 to recover my data. Discouraged, I let the drive sit on my shelf for two years. I hate to be the lone dissenting opinion, but I did not have a good experience. After reading the reviews, here on Yelp, Qubex sounded too good to be true. While they were unable to recover my data, I can't blame them for that. What truly disappointed me was their overall lack of professionalism and customer service. In my case, I was told for five weeks that my data was on the way to recovery and there were no problems. I would call every week, checking on the status, and "everything's fine" was the continual reply. So you can imagine how upset I was when, suddenly, during the sixth week, they sent me an email saying that they would be unable to recover my data. If you can't do, it fine... just don't string me out for six weeks. I went to another data recovery service, down the street, and they were able to get the same conclusion in less than 24 hours. I also felt hoodwinked that I was charged a $150 starting fee (or "engagement fee") and that this fee was not refundable. I may have missed the fact that it was non-refundable; that may be my fault, as all other data recoveries have a "no data, no fee" policy. This is not the case with Qubex. When I confronted them about this, they gave me an excuse. For these reasons, I will not recommend Qubex to my friends or colleagues. read more

I have always said, if my house burned down, as long as the family was safe and my hard drives made it out, I would not be worried about losing anything else. Well, the other day, my house did NOT burn down, but my mirrored hard drive failed. A very expensive 6TB mirrored drive. So, in theory it is its own backup. However, both drives failed simultaneously! Unheard of, said the manufacturer. Yes, it happened and I was on the hook. Yes, I had the majority of the information also backed up off site - but definitely not all of it. The drive was 9 months into a 3 years warranty - however - the warranty does not cover data recovery. So - it was Qubex to the rescue. I found the on YELP and am so glad I did. They worked for several weeks getting to the root of the problem - even working with the vendor to uncover the complexity of the failure. Never charging me a dime for the diagnosis. When they did identify the problem, they recovered my data in a few short days. They were great about updating me with status and in responding to questions. I have since bought a secondary backup for my backup on top of my offsite backup. I suspect, I will never have this experience again with this drive, however, I would not hesitate to call Qubex with any other future computer repair needs. They were great to work with! read more

My Mac Mini 2012 failed to boot up one day. It had a 4-year old 500GB Samsung EVO 850 SSD. I didn't think a SSD could fail so fast, but it did, and I had no bootable backup. Thinking all my locally stored photos, videos, and documents were forever gone, I initially accepted my fate. After some great reddit'ing, however, I decided to go to not try to repair myself but to go to the pros. A quick search around my neighborhood found Qubex. So I decided to give them a shot. Result? 100% data recovery! Email communication was always very helpful, and they were able to get all the data off my broken boot up drive in a couple of days. I gave them a new Samsung EVO 860 500GB SSD. They were able to load a fresh MacOS on it and put all my data on the SSD in a folder on my desktop. The only thing I had left to do was re-organize all that data back into my original directory structure on my Mac. If you're reading this and you haven't backed up your data and don't have a bootable backup, please do so now. It will save you much time, effort, and money to have backups in place now than when it fails and you have none of that. If it does happen to fail though, give these guys a call! I've learned my lesson and have since started Time Machine backups of all the Macs in my household. read more
