I brought in a dead HP laptop to find out why it won't even turn on. After a few days, they got back to me with the worst news: dead motherboard. They gave me options for repairing it, explaining that once the motherboard is fixed, it's still possible that the hard drives won't work. After mulling over my options, I opted not to repair it, and I was only charged the diagnostic fee. Overall, I was satisfied with PC Answers. Better communication about the status of my computer would have made this a 5-star review. I waited three days before I finally called them to find out the status. This review is a little bit overdue, as I used PC Answers in February, but between starting an new job and moving, this review kept getting pushed out, but my appreciation to Michael and his team continues. I'm fairly tech-savvy, but I had trouble with my computer slowing down. I did all the typical disk clean-up, defragmenting, and deleting files on my C-Drive, but nothing really worked. I know when I need to reach out for help, and this was one of those times. After checking out reviews on Yelp and Google, I decided to ask for a quote using the online form on their website. Michael replied very promptly and gave me some options. I brought in my computer and they ran a diagnostic. After contacting me about my options, I authorized repairs and they had my computer running again with minimal disruption to me. The cost was, in my opinion, fair and a bargain. The staff were all friendly and helpful. (Side note: When I went to pick up my computer, the staff person told me some lady yelled at her, even though PC Answers were trying to help her. I know people may not understand technology terminology and get frustrated when things aren't working, but if someone is trying to help you, what would you think it's okay to cuss at them?) I like to spend my money in my local community and support smaller businesses as much as possible, so I was delighted to find PC-ANSWERS within a block of my new apartment in Littleton! Michael and Tiffany Burton are a very helpful couple who own the shop and they did a fantastic job figuring out a multitude of issues I had on my home-built desktop PC. Over the years I have owned many different PCs and Laptops and had collected multiple hard drives from these old computers which were all in various states of operational condition. They quickly diagnosed why my brand new SSD was not working and found it had manufacturer defects that were giving me headaches by shutting off at random and very inconvenient times. Then they were able to identify the health of each old hard drive and get me up and running again reliably. Knowing which hard drives were good to keep, and which ones were about to fail was also invaluable to know. They then moved 20 years of historical files and copied them to the best hard drive on my now functional Desktop PC. The cost for all this help was extremely reasonable and I was able to buy some good used hardware that I needed as well. I even got a free box of Girl Scout cookies to enjoy. My laptop out-of-the-blue could not find my wireless network, even though all our other devices in our house could. It showed my neighbors' available networks, but not mine. I left the laptop with PC Answers, but when they started diagnosing it they told me my laptop had no problem connecting to their wireless network. Michael came up with the possible solution of bypassing the Wi-Fi card in the computer and instead installed a unit resembling a Flash Drive in one of the USB ports. I took the computer home and it found the wireless network just fine. This inexpensive solution saved me having to immediately decide if I needed to purchase a new laptop. Michael came to our rescue, again! Our network cameras were not working due to a new modem and router, along with a complicated set of values that needed to be re-worked for the new software. We couldn't figure it out after hours and hours of trial and error, so we made the call to PC Answers. Our remote cabin location was no problem, Michael was able to do everything over the internet even though we were using an "ancient" tiny laptop. Yet again, I am blown away at the level of honest service given by PC Answers. After many failed attempts by my husband and me at home, I went in to PC Answers prepared to pay for a complicated password retrieval process on our laptop. It could have brought in a nice service fee for them. But before charging me and on his own initiative, Michael the owner recommended I quickly trouble shoot it with him one last time. Well, he ended up helping me get into the computer in a matter of seconds using a simple fix I had not thought to use. I immediately realized.... Wow, he could have easily taken advantage of my of my tech ignorance and charged me $80+ for a retrieval process, but he didn't! So, I'm really not the online reviewer type since there is definitely no shortage of cranky complaining online reviews, but I had to share my very positive experience with them. They are local, knowledgeable, super friendly and customer service oriented. From my experience there they are doing it the right way. First off, I must say that I'm not a person that actually needs the services of a computer repair shop, I've been building my own and working with computers for 20+ years and trying to avoid offering free IT support to friends and family. In any case, I was in the middle of building my latest screaming fast video workstation when I needed a simple part that I didn't have to finish the build. (That really only micro center would have in town) so I called these guys and asked if they had the past and would be willing to sell one to me. They said they don't really well parts but that I could come down and they would for me. Yay. So I got there and talked to them for a few minutes about what they do and their business and they answered some questions I had about the pcie bus. I offered to pay them way more than the past was way j just for the convenience of being able to get it down the street but they wouldnt take my money. PC Answers is AWESOME! I bought a BAD pre-built gaming computer from cyberpower. It had this weird issue that it was super hard to find out what was wrong with it. I talked with cyberpower, and they couldn't fix it. I replaced almost every part I could think of, and still, my computer wouldn't work. I took it to BestBuy/GeekSquad, and they couldn't fix it. I talked through drivers/software fixes with a technician and couldn't fix it. I was about to give up and buy a new computer, but I decided to go to PC Answers. PC Answers listened to me and the issues. They didn't just mindlessly run it through some standard corporate protocol computer check like BestBuy (which didn't help or fix the problem). They went above and beyond and manually tested it themselves (stress testing and running twitch/video games). They were able to fix it!!! I was waiting to write this review to ensure my computer didn't revert to the old glitchy broken form. It has been about two weeks now, and it runs perfectly!!! WORST experience in consult and communications with a computer repair place EVER. Within less than 5 minutes, MIchael (B, I presume, owner) of http://www.pc-answers.com tried to pressure me to drop off my laptop vs use their ADVERTISED mobile service, which I needed. When I stated I needed mobile service and would not be leaving my laptop with pc-answers, Michael B then became extremely aggitated and accusative. He accused me of lying re my laptop crisis/status. Then, when I merely asked generally re their privacy/security practices with customer data, Michael B FREAKED OUT and accused me repeatedly, "No one has ever asked me that before! No one has ever asked me that before!", AS IF there were something in ANY WAY unusual or "suspicious" with the most basic computer repair service shop question re privacy of customer data. By Michael B's freak out, it's reasonable to think http://www.pc-answers.com may be misrepresenting their privacy practices big time and/or have NO respect for their customer privacy. His freak out WAS in fact suspicious. I was married to a highest level computer programmer and engineer. I know computer expert types. MIchael B of PC-ANSWERS was unprofessional, pressuring and coercive. AND, their mobile rates are WAY overpriced and over estimated. I have never had computer service that was better than this. This shop is so far above the minimum standards and the people are so down-to-earth and friendly! Experienced, innovative, responsive, and understanding. I end up getting my computer all fouled up and for an amazingly small fee it gets back to normal -- NO -- better than normal They're good at spotting things that will help you if they tweak them and good at helping set up things so the next Microsoft "update" ( I see them as mess-up) won't destroy whatever you've managed to do -- and/or how you do it, and/or what your computer looks like: mine is usually unrecognizable after an "update" goes through. so - the people at PC ANSWERS DO HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS! The first was a total crash of my laptop, I worked with Donyo and he directed me towards a new computer and transferred my data for me. I am a business owner and without a computer I could not work. The turnaround was really quick and everything was explained really well, including pricing (very reasonable). The second time I was having an audio problem and Donyo had it fixed in about 2 minutes. My "play" computer was old and it finally stopped working, but I had hopes that it could be fixed. I took it in and met with Tiffany who told me she would get back to me in a few days to let me know the verdict. It was dead. Oh well... but then when I told her I was looking for another used one since I only used it for fun, she went out of her way and found me one. BUT... what she found me was not only inexpensive, but this computer has more power than my work computer... and it's so clean and beautiful. My computer recently started to run slowly and eventually turned into the Blue Screen of Death. I called PC Answers to see if it was worth bringing in and spoke to Michael, who let me know what the chances of recovery were. I took it in to their shop and had a new hard drive installed on the same day. Michael and his team gave me a few different options and pricing and I am very happy with the result.
