We hired QLS to install a mini split for us in our pool house in 2017, we had a few issues taken care of by other companies throughout the years. Nothing was ever noted that installation was done poorly or incorrectly, as you can't see into the wall to know until after what happened as that could not be seen. Fast forward about 5 years, and the unit on the back of the house fell off the wall, causing damage to the electrical wiring and copper tubing. We contacted QLS for service to look at the unit, determine why it had fallen and to see if it could be repaired. QLS did come out this time and re-hung the unit, stating it wasn't bolted into any studs and only the siding and the OSB. The technicians couldn't get the unit working on the first visit. They dropped off the disconnect breaker at the door to my kids and said they didn't have one. I was able to test the breaker and determine it was functional and opened the cover for the electrical wiring and found the supply wiring was not visible as it pulled into the flex conduit coming from the disconnect to the unit. I re-terminated the wiring and the unit powers up but won't blow cold air. I let QLS know what I found and they said they would come back out. The tech on the second visit ended up fixing the unit letting us know the copper tubing was crushed and all the refrigerant had leaked out, was able to un-kink the tubing and recharge the system. They later sent an invoice for $811, without ever confirming the estimate with us prior to fixing the unit or even giving us a clue as to what it might cost. We would NOT have approved of that cost. We would have said we do not need the unit anymore, we already have a window unit in there from the other times it did not work. We feel this should have been communicated better and honestly feel taken care of by the company, not because they had to or it was under warranty. Obviously, it wasn't by this time. But more to do with the fact that properly installed units do not just fall off walls for no reason. It wasn't neglect or even an accident on our part. Even QLS admits that units do not just fall off the wall, and they provided some pretty wild hypotheses as to how a motorcycle driving through our yard knocked it off the wall, while not physically damaging the units frame or coil fins, not even a scratch on the paint. (We do not own a motorcycle, the marks the tech saw were clearly from mowing the area so that the tech could access the unit). If the owner would have really analyzed the images we sent, he would see that it's technically impossible for the unit to have been hit due to placement and tracks. Well played QLS, doing some questionable work in hopes that by the time anyone notices, you can technically and legally claim it's not your problem anymore. read more

QLS installed a new Bryant AC unit for me in April. I was very happy at that time. Along with the AC unit, they replaced the thermostat which is made by Honeywell. Something happened to the thermostat and it wasn't working. I called QLS on a Friday and they told me to call Honeywell as their techs don't reprogram the thermostats. I found out then that Honeywell outsources troubleshooting to Resideo. Resideo call center keeps regular office hours so I did not have AC for a weekend. Since the Resideo Tech and I could not get the thermostat to work, I called QLS again who sent a tech out, and he replaced the old one. I called Resideo back and they helped me reprogram the thermostat. I've had no more problems with it. QLS didn't charge for that visit. In October, I was having trouble with the heater. I called QLS and a technician came out. He looked over the system and had to replace the circuitboard. I asked him if I could pay the bill and he said there would be no charge as the part was under warranty. Later in October, I received a text message that I owed for the service. I called and Vanessa said she would check into it, I assumed everything was taken care of. Today I get another text message that I owe for the visit back in October. When I called in, I was told that while the tech was here, he did a semi-annual checkup on the unit and that's what I'm being charged for. I was very upset because I'd been told by the tech I didn't owe for of the visit- had he told me I owed for a check up, I would have paid it during the original visit. When I called in back in October to the office, I assumed everything was fine because I heard nothing back for a month. QLS is extremely responsive to calls, and their texts are professional and friendly. But beware of communication issues and charges. read more

QLS is pretty awesome. You know how one part of the house will be freezing and the other hot and stuffy? Turns out you don't have to live that way. And you might not need new air conditioning units to do it! (Hey, I always assume the worst when it comes to machinery I don't understand). The guy explained how what meets the minimum code when your house is built doesn't necessarily cut it for letting the AC system do what it's supposed to - especially when we were hindering airflow by shutting doors to keep the animals out of stuff. Some simple fixes to let air move through the rooms and a routine maintenance tune up did the job, and for way less than I would have thought. I appreciated that they worked out what the problem actually was and did what was best to fix it, not what was the most expensive. They explained things clearly and simply. In our experience, QLS is not qualified to install air systems properly. They replaced our system and ducts for a small one-story home in 2009, and it's never worked properly. It fails to keep under 80 degrees, water leaks, ducts leak, the coils failed, coolant leaks, and now the drain pan failed, leading to water damage in the house. After just six years, we've had three different companies evaluate the situation. All have been commented that the system is poorly installed and designed. All three say it cannot be properly repaired without replacing the entire interior system. QLS initially attempted to fix it several times per year, however were unable to solve the issues. After year 3, they did not return calls. Very disappointed to lose 9k on a system that was supposed to improve efficiency, and has to be replaced completely after just 6 years. I would recommend finding someone else. read more

If you need new air ducts for your house check out "Austin Energy's Home Performance with the Energy Star Program". This Energy program requires duct sizing and sealing, New Supply Air Plenum, Additional Return Air Vent, and Insulation of attic space to R-38, weatherizing exterior doors and sealing plumbing throughout. And if the work is approved by Austin Energy, you also get a rebate. I used OLS (Quality Living Services)who is licensed by the City to do the work on my house. It took 2 days to bring my house up to standards, but it was worth it. I have clean air-ducts and my existing air-conditioner is much more efficient! The best part was the final inspection from Austin Energy when they told me I was getting rebate checks from Austin Energy & Austin Natural Gas. These checks will pay for 1/2 the cost of the work that was done by QLS 512-928-4580. They are a great team to work with, and now my house is ready for the hot summer months ahead. read more

The key question is- would I have QLS bid another project? The answer is yes. My project is/was a large addition to an existing home. It included entirely new HVAC systems throughout. Things that were good: 1. their bid was awesome- it included a few scenarios/costs that allowed me to select the most efficient system for my budget (SEER rating). it was empowering to be able to do this and stood out from other bids. they also included a projected AE rebate as part of the total- allowing me to see the full picture of cost. 2. they were very service-oriented and inspected the job to ensure smooth install. they communicated well with the framing team to ensure chases and other features were sized for their needs. 3. the air flow design is working very well. 4. their install crew was very friendly and productive. it was a pleasure having them on the job. 5. they did not nickel-dime me for changes or incidental items...and were able to solve problems quickly. 6. they did a good job keeping their materials isolated and stored away from other trades. things that could be improved: 1. there's a charge for the testing of the final system- needed to close the permit. this is not a huge cost, but it would be helpful to show it in the scope/bid...even if shown as a possible charge. 2. the install crew could do more to clear trash out of the work area on a regular basis. this is a very good company and I will actively recommend them for future work. read more

I had a leak in my ceiling and was told by my roofer that it could be the AC. I called QLS, who had originally installed the AC unit, and they promptly sent someone out. The guy was very nice, but took about 5 minutes, with my ladder to look in the attic just to tell me there are no ac lines there. I was under the assumption that this would be a assessment and at no charge. About 4 months later I get a call from QLS saying I had not paid my invoice- that I had never received. They collected $69.00 dollars for the service call. I should have at least had my ac serviced for that amount! This was not the first time I had an issue with unexpected charges from them. read more

I think this is my first 5 star review ever, but Quality Living Services deserves it for fixing my AC in July in Austin. I called, they showed up when they said they would, on a Friday afternoon. Labored for a few hours before they discovered my twenty year old AC motor needed a part they didn't have. They called all over town, couldn't find it. Showed up on Saturday! with the located part, and worked in the 103 degree heat patching me up. Came to our home and did a thorough evaluation of our entire home. We needed additional work (I.e. ducts sealed, an additional air return) besides the new unit. He explained everything to us, and followed up with a very detailed e-mail that explained all of the work, with pricing for each item. He also priced out 5 different a/c units and included information about each one. There was no pressure from Joe for us to purchase a particular unit or to do the additional work. The men that did the installation were very professional and efficient with their work. Joe came to our home after the installation to inspect the work and to go over the system and answer any questions that we had. We had QLS come out a couple times in the past month to check an A/C unit that was not working. They were responsive and timely and get credit (and a couple stars) for that. But after the A/C went out a third time we called another company, who came out and said that whoever had attempted to fix the unit had not sufficiently cleaned out the line and had not taken the time to replace part of the line that was causing blockage and condensation. I'm frustrated by what looks like QLS going for the quick fix instead of the long-term solution. read more

These guys are great. Purchased a new home and put in a brand new HVAC system with another company that is highly rated in yelp (TX AC Specialists). Big mistake for a multitude of reasons. My wife and I decided to do a house remodel shortly after this new system was put in and our contractor brought in QLS to redo the new system set up and get everything working correctly and efficiently. They put in oversized ducts, created a dual zone system, and created a "dump zone" for the excess air to go due to an overpowered HVAC. Ideally we would have waited to replace the HVAC when we bought the house but since the original wasn't working we had to get in a new one and given it was $8k we couldn't just take it out and replace it with one of the correct size. Thankfully QLS came in and was able to do a great job with what they had, just wish I had called them first. read more

I was referred to QLS by my sister-in-law who works for an energy rating company and was impressed with their efficiency and professionalism from the outset. QLS helped my wife and I consider the full range of AC options for an old bungalow house we purchased in Clarksville (Old West Austin). The home did not have any AC to begin with and so QLS ran new ducting throughout. We decided upon a heat pump for our attic and main AC unit installed on the side of our house. Perhaps the best part of our experience was the help they offered us in applying for the Austin AC Energy Rebate. QLS scheduled the city inspection, filled out the form and mailed it in for us. I have used them twice. Once, on my first home which developed a leak in the AC unit on the bottom, then in 2009 on my rental house. They always were honest and the two men I worked with on both times were very nice. One man had tattoos and black spiky hair and looked a little aggressive, but was SUPER NICE. Here is the short story: QLS preformed a less than substandard job of installing some ductwork at my new house and never made it right. Basically, the ducts that they installed did not work at all, and they left a bunch of trash from the job up in the attic. When I called and asked them to fix the problem, they showed up over an hour late and consequently did not have enough time to do the repair. The next day I actually had to negotiate with the owner of the company for them to agree to come back and fix their poor work. After several scheduling difficulties we finally got someone out to fix the problem. He seemed like a decent and competent guy who convinced us that we should move one of the preexisting ducts to improve overall airflow. So, we actually agreed to pay QLS more money to fix this problem. The young man explained that they did not have the necessary tools for this type of fix and that QLS would call us to schedule a time to come by to do the repair. Four days went by, no call. I called and left a message with them at the end of the week. We have never received a response. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a service company. In short, QLS did awful work on a very small project and exerted a hobbled effort to repair the problem, which untimely ended in almost a week of no communication and an unreturned phone call with no resolution. If this is how they do business with a simple duct instillation, I can't imagine the job they must do for full system overhauls or major work. Based on my experience, I would recommend that others stay clear of this company. read more

QLS does not say what they will do. We had them come out to repair the AC, they couldn't fully repair that day but only could put more Freon in. They would have someone come out and spec what the full job would be. After many phone calls we made to get it scheduled; that project manager finally came out. That was in May 2014- still to date.... no response back on what the quote it. It has been about a month and we have emailed them, called them 5 times, talked to people in the shop 2 twice promising a quote and immediate action that day. STILL NO CALL FROM THEM. I get its busy, BUT I do not appreciate companies that say they will do something and never do it. We were promised this is QLS did the full repair, that initial FREON charge would be credited. Now we don't care about losing the money as we don't want anyone working on our house that does not keep its word. read more

I have used KC Walters & crew to do my HVAC work on 3 different homes. Most recently I wanted to update my current HVAC system w/ a more efficient model and they worked up a few spreadsheets for me (b/c I'm a total nerd and they know that) and even included how much the rebates with be with each option. I ened up getting a 16SEER unit w/ all of the energy updating, insulation and other green do-dads and go almost $2500 back from the City & Gas Co. I ended up spending a few hundred dollars more than the basic unit, but now I have reduced my bills and I know that all of my hard-earned money isn't just leaking out of the house. They spent a LOT of time answering my questions, and even explained how to adjust my dampers up in the attic so I could manipulate the airflow even more than with the registers in the rooms. (I love my A/C!) Thanks for walking me through the rebate process, for showing up on time, and for getting me such a great deal.... That is the reason I've been recommending you for years, but got to experience first hand the customer service this spring. read more

They were proactive to balance a/c throughout the house, protected all our our hardwood floors, and slipped in and replaced a neighbors a/c when her's went out while working on ours. What an amazing experience I had with QLS. Starting with my original meeting with Joe to the actual installation of our Air Conditioning unit. I contacted 4 Austin air conditioning companies when looking for a new system, QLS was the only company that provided a quote within 24 hours, provided abundant information for the units suggested for our home, and followed-up with us until we made a decision. When the time came to install the unit they installers were punctual, professional and extremely polite. A supervisor came later in the day to check the work and within 48 hours Joe called to ensure everything went well.
