I used Q's a year ago for a Manhattan-to-Brooklyn move and am surprised by all the negative reviews here. Granted, ours was a relatively small and uncomplicated move, but the allegations of wanton destruction here are pretty appalling. The three-man team that handled our move worked quickly and efficiently (which I appreciated, since they charge by the hour). In fact, I think the entire process took about 3 hours and 15 minutes, but we were only charged for 3 (plus the mandatory DOT charge). While the guys were easygoing and funny, they were very obviously pros at their jobs. They hauled probably a dozen loads of boxes and furniture up two flights of stairs while keeping an eye on the double-parking situation on our one-way street. They were undeterred by my self-deprecating comments about our crappy hand-me-down furniture ("It's vintage! Vintage is in!" one said). And despite the narrow, angular stairways in our old brownstone, there was only one small scuff mark on the wall that was easily buffed out with a Magic Eraser. Given all that, I'm pretty skeptical about the reviewer below who said his crew didn't know even how to climb stairs. Regarding the allegations of broken items, I have no complaints here, either. The crew brought padding to wrap the few valuable items we had, and upon arrival at our new place, they asked me to inspect everything while they were there (off the clock) to make sure nothing was broken. They even took apart and reassembled a rickety "vintage" table to make it easier to move. I was impressed that they had the tools and the skills to do this, and that they did it so quickly. They also offered to haul random un-boxed items (trash can, umbrellas, litter box, etc.) I'd been planning to take separately, which saved me a trip. Bottom line, these guys made an existentially disturbing experience (i.e. moving) relatively painless. I was so pleased with Q's service that I'm using them again in a week, and I'm happy to be supporting a local, family-owned business. read more

We had hired our movers through a broker, so did not know which company was going to show up on the day. These guys made what could have been a stressful moving day turn out very smooth. If you've lived in NYC you know that parking, x flights of stairs, insurance, damage and not so reputable mover competition can seem like a nightmare. I was prepared for the worst. These guys worked so fast and wrapped and taped everything like super experts. We could see from the start we were in good hands. There was a parking issue, but these guys handled it well and quickly came up with a solution. They helped with disassembling furniture and strapped and secured everything into our truck. They were an efficient and friendly team to work with and there was practically no damage to any property. With any larger move you have to expect a few smaller scratches and dents. The pricing seemed fair. I definately recommend these guys to anyone moving in NYC. We felt we were lucky to have Q moving do our move the day we left NYC. read more

I am so sorry I ever booked this company. They told me it would take two hours and up to three hours max at $450. They sent a crew of three men. When they arrived one of the men went to use my bathroom and was vomiting. All I had was a full living room, a queen size mattress with box spring, one five draw chest, and 15 boxes. One hour travel time at $150 an hour. Never left Queens only 5 miles away. Six hours later they charged me $900 and $150 for travel time. Totaling $1050! They said they couldn't fit my couch through the door of my new place so basically left it outside on my grass. It cost me another $350 to have it dismantled and brought in piece by piece. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. read more

This could be the worst moving company you could choose in NYC and that is saying something considering the business is full of thieves. The movers at Q's will ruin your stuff and have no real clue how to actually move anyone. The movers they sent couldnt handle any part of the move, from parking the truck to traffic control to getting items in and out of the house. They were asking us how to carry stuff up stairs, we were dumbfounded by this as we dont move ourselves and hired professionals so how are we expected to know these things. From start to finish they were bad at the job. Then to top it all off they completely wrecked our couch and their guys stole whole boxes full of stuff, literally whole boxes never got dropped. They were yelled at by police for blocking a whole street when they had a spot all set up for them, something as simple as parking a truck was a problem for these guys AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! The move date was 3/29/2014, I spoke to and arranged everything with Michelle from Q's the day before, who I was directed to by Roy from HeftyRoy after he had already taken a deposit. These people are doing everything in their power to get this completely legitimate review down. I have the phone records to prove the conversations at the exact number they keep listing, its amazing that they only took interest in making things right when I post a scathing review. No I will not call you to resolve this as there is no resolution at this point. No, I will not take the review down as it is completely accurate. And Yes, I am 100% sure it was Q's Moving and have the phone records to prove it. EDIT: This is 1000000% the company that moved me, the owner trying desperately to say its not should alert any and all who look here that they are shady beyond belief. I had their number in my phone for over a year which matches the number on their website, I can name the employee I spoke to and arranged everything with and they still try to lie their way out of it. I never do reviews but felt I needed to tell everyone about my experience using Q's moving service. I have to admit I was nervous when I first contacted Q's because it was by far the best value on full service movers I could find in Manhattan and sometimes you get what you pay for. Additionally, even though there are way more positive reviews, you can't help but wonder about the negative ones. I ultimately chose them for price but loved that they are a family owned local business, which helped ease my mind because in my experience those companies tend to be the best because they make their living off of customer satisfaction. I was so happy I didn't let the random negative reviews deter me because the second I spoke with them on the phone I was blown away by the quality of their customer service. This company actually offers quality service at an amazing value! I worked with Demetra in the office to plan the move date and number of movers etc. and she took care of every aspect making sure I was completely prepared with the best info and rate, she even handled obtaining the COI needed. She also explained all of the NYC moving regulations and made sure I understood the ins and outs of the moving process and costs. They packed fragile items at no extra charge and carefully covered every piece of furniture which was an added free bonus! I had to move quickly and they were able to accommodate my move date and time only a week beforehand. I feel so lucky to have found this company. The movers arrived exactly on time and were extremely diligent and friendly. The whole move of my 1 bedroom apartment-from loading to unloading - was less than 3 hours and the price I was charged was actually less than expected because of how quickly they were able to finish. No item was broken or damaged and everything I packed myself got there safely and damage-free as well. I even have 2 huge rickety shelves that had no extra damage even though they were ready to fall apart before I moved! They even moved random items like the litter box and laundry bin which was so convenient because I thought I would have to lug them in a taxi. I moved from upper Midtown West to lower Murray Hill (not too far) but the truck actually arrived and was parked and ready to be unloaded at my new place before I got there in a cab! I'll also add I moved to a small apartment with narrow halls and there was no damage to any wall or floor. I have unfortunately had to move several times in the past few years due to work and this was by far the easiest, most stress-free moving day I've ever had - and it was my first local NYC move so I was dreading it, as I expected it would be the worst with all the horror stories I've heard and complications and expenses of moving in the city. Overall I could not be more pleased with Q's for their great customer service, quality moving professionals and friendliness. I used them about a year ago and am moving to another part of town soon and will 100% be using Q's again. read more

I would not recommend this business. I'll start by stating that after our 2 hour arrival window and I had not heard from them about an ETA (something that I had gotten from our load team in CT) I called Elite (who we had contracted Q's through). I was told someone would call.. and they did once Elite's dispatch got a hold of them. At that point they informed me they would be at least 30 min late. Major issue #1.. I should not have to call you to find out where you are.. if you are late, at LEAST give me the courtesy of a phone call. I realize that it was raining and traffic... still no excuse for no phone call. Upon arrival, I got a million and one excuses from one of the guys as to why they didn't call... both using different navigation on phones to find a quicker route, then the story changed to NY law says you can't use a phone (umm ok... there are 2 of you in the car and pull over if you need to). It was a never ending string of excuses which annoyed me more than 1 excuse/apology and moving on with the job. Granted the 2 guys got the job done in 2 hours, but they would have been even quicker if they would have just stopped complaining about how the truck was packed. They had nothing nice to say about the packing of the truck or condition of the furniture. They stopped to photograph everything even after I stated that I was aware of some scratches on some pieces (I have kids.. it happens. Has nothing to do with the AM movers). Not to mention.. 2 guys from another company loaded my truck (including taking apart furniture and dealing with stairs) while these 2 guys did about 75% of the unload in the same amount of time since our family started unloading due to their tardiness (no stairs, no reassembling furniture). Complaining about others is not only unprofessional, it doesn't make up for the difficulties you have. These 2 guys were here for all of 2 hours.. and took multiple smoke breaks. In no office or "normal" job do you get multiple smoke breaks in a 2 hour time period (again, they got the job done with our help in 2 hours.. but really!?) Our apartment and some of our stuff smelled of smoke as well.. none of us smoke so it 100% came from the movers. All in all, not recommended. read more

I'm torn as the move itself was excellent, but I was annoyed with the additional fees that I didn't know about until the movers showed up & because of their inability to respond via email. Initially I called & spoke with Yolanda to make the appointment. She quoted me $125 an hour for a 3 hour minimum including a 1 hr travel time and additional time billed in 15 minimum increment. I was initially confused with her explanation of the travel time so I asked if that meant if 1 hour is for the travel time & 2 hours is for the move & she confirmed yes. A few days before the move however, because I had nothing in writing, I sent an email to qsmovingcorp@gmail.com asking them to confirm their price structure & got no response. This was the 2nd time I had this issue. 1st time was initially when I made the appointment. I sent in my building's insurance requirements & when they didn't respond in a week I called them to which they claimed they never received it so I sent it again. On the move date, the movers arrived on time. However, first thing Joe (one of the movers) asked me is if I'm aware of the charges for blanket (used to wrap & protect furniture) for moving into storage. He explained it like this. Each blanket that I keep once the furniture goes into storage is $10. When I move things out of storage & return the blankets, I'm refunded $5 per blanket. I was really annoyed given they knew I was moving it into storage & could've had options if I knew in advance, but what could I do at that point so I just accepted. They estimated 22, but ended up using "only" 15 for $150. I could've opted to have them unwrap the blankets, but that would have cost me more time & also didn't want my furniture on the bare concrete floor in storage. Then if that wasn't enough, I'm then told they decided to bring an extra mover (a 4th) just in case they needed him & if so, the rate would be $155 an hour. It was a 1br apartment so not sure why they would think I might need a 4th but again, what was I suppose to do at that point since they were already here so I said fine. In fairness I heard of others where one mover sits in the truck, but in my case all 4 came in. The move itself went well. These guys are good, fast & professional. I did pack all the small stuff myself as they provide you with 10 complimentary boxes, but the entire move, from packing, loading, transporting & unloading into storage took 3 hours & 15 mins. However, this is where I found out after everything was done is that the 3 hour minimum is just for the move & the 1 hour travel time is extra (which is a bit bs considering I only live 30 minutes from them & only includes the travel time to get to your place to start). But again, like the other issues, I find out after the fact so what was I suppose to do. To their credit I did not get charged for the extra 15 minutes nor for the extra 4th mover. Honestly even if they disclosed all their fees I would've used them anyway since they were recommended by my neighbor & I didn't want to call around. From my interaction with them I never got the impression that they were dishonest. Even after ending up paying more than $200 than what I expected, I still tipped the movers $100 so that tells you what I thought of them. Honestly, now knowing their prices, if this is how all moving companies charge, I would have no issues using them again. But regardless, I can't discount the fact that I got hit with extra fees. read more

The office has exceptionally responsive and professional individuals running the service. They were in constant contact with my wife and always answered our calls or called us back. These were some of the things we move last week from CT to 2 destinations in NYC: - 3 seater leather couch - 2 seater leather couch - All wood dresser - All wood end table with removable glass - All wood coffee table with removable glass - All wood tv stand - All wood shoe stand - 2 lights - 32 inch flat panel tv - rug - misc bags of stuff The 3 of them would have come on time within the 1 hour window they gave but unfortunately got lost in the wilderness of CT (not their fault). After they got here and assessed the furniture that needed to be delivered, they IMMEDIATELY GOT TO WORK. The three of them used tape, blankets, plastic wrap, and cardboard to wrap EVERY piece of furniture we had. Everything was ready to go in less than one hour. Because we had one hour to get everything in the building (there was another moving crew moving out and sharing the elevators at the same time), me, my friend, my wife, and my sister helped lend a hand. My wife and sister helped unpack the blankets while the 4 of us moved the furniture in. We miraculously got everything in the apartment in exactly one hour. We also were going to toss our two old couches (one was a pull out bed) because no one wanted them, but these guys told us that they WORK WITH HURRICANE SANDY VICTIMS! So, they took our couches out and moved it into their truck. They didn't blink any eye and we felt so much better that the furniture was being given away for a good cause. The next stop also went on without a hitch. The crew was extremely professional and very kind. It was an entire days' worth of work but everything worked out in the end. No masks- no covid precautions. They were asked to wear masks once we went into my new home to protect my kids- did not do that. Two pieces of furniture were broken- I called 2 weeks after to provide the invoice, a very disgruntled young lady answered and was not very helpful. A day later an employee calls me to dispute my claim that my marble top was broken due to the move, usually the manager or owner should call customers to discuss a service issue. It got so frustrating that I didn't even bother getting my money back for the repair. Terrible service and a lot of add ons the day of the move. Make sure you have a set itemised detailed inventory prior to your move. I learned the hard way. Disappointed with the terrible service and handling of my broken curtain rod and marble top/table. I did not appreciate the employee personally calling me to dispute it- the manager should and take at least a fraction of accountability. read more

Movers stunk of weed, and caused several thousand dollars worth of damage to our furniture. When my wife and I reported this, while the movers were still in our home, the company called and admonished the crew, who all became hostile with my family. The head goon, then began angrily crying and went on to say that he didn't feel appreciated, and that I had no right to report him for damaging our things. Before they eventually left, they asked if they could harvest mint and basil from our garden and then asked if we had a bag. Yes...this happened. FYI. The mover contract stipulates any damages rendered were to be compensated on a per pound basis of the total damaged items. This is clever of them, since most items in most people's homes aren't valued per pound. Careful with your designer clothing and fragiles. We spent nearly 5k to fix damages, while Q Moving paid us less than 400 dollars for the incident. I hope it was worth the bad review. Lastly, instead of knowing their business and how to appraise a job, like any contractor, they instead give a vague estimate for the work, and what turns out as an hourly billing. This creates a situation where the crew is rushing and carelessly tossing things in the house and off the truck under time constraints. What if a roofer billed this way? read more

Even though the people I had an interaction at the office were very professional, the people that actually matter, the movers, were not. Not only they were arguing among each other, they were slow(needed to at least spend 4 hours on the job) , most importantly were not careful with the items they were handling. Moved like molasses. I've never seen three people move so slowly in my life. It took one of them 20 minutes just to put a blanket around my tv. We watched them from down the street just sitting in the loaded truck for ages running up the clock before they drove away from the old apartment. Yes, everything made it to it's destination mostly safely (Only a few scrapes and breaks) but be prepared to pay for at least 2 more hours than the job should take. Would never use again. read more

This move was a nightmare. The movers promised to supply free boxes and tape to help move everything. Turns out only the first 5 boxes were "free" and charged us for the rest. The boxes were ALL beat up and close to falling apart. Also, they did not come prepared with markers or bubble wrap, and ended up using a lot of our supplies that we bought. It took them 10 hours to move a small 2-bedroom apartment. It honestly did not need to take this long, but of course they were being paid by the hour. We had already packed more than half of our stuff beforehand, but needed help with the rest. They did not help us with the extra stuff, mostly just the furniture. They still left so much behind that we had to waste another day moving it all by ourselves. When we drove to meet at the new location, they disappeared for a solid hour (despite them leaving first) so we had to wait around. They cracked our TV screen and completely broke the sofa leg. The entire job was just sloppy, but the guy kept making excuses. At one point they ordered us to unpack the furniture, which is ridiculous because that's their job. At the end, the lead guy hassled us into leaving a 20% tip after breaking both our couch and TV, the two most valuable items they were supposed to be careful with. Their insurance policy is a joke, only 30 CENTS per pound. The most they offered to cover for our broken TV was $3! And my couch is 5k and does NOT come with replaceable legs! The guy superglued it back, but it still feels unstable when sitting. Very unprofessional! If you have anything of value to move, please do NOT use this moving company. read more

Had an awful experience from start to finish. I would recommend not using this company. I have moved many times and used many different mock g companies and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. We had an intricate move involving 4 stops. I signed up for yelp just to write this review. This was hands down the WORST experience I have ever had with a company & I wouldn't recommend using them EVER. I honestly think that neither of the guys were even movers, instead just someone they grabbed from the corner to help because they didn't have enough men. Both movers complained the entire time, gave us dirty looks and shook their heads the entire move. They dropped boxes & furniture and complained about their knees being bad. Because of my job I have moved a lot in the past and never seen anything like this. We felt like we were being pranked by a hidden camera show the service was so bad. The one thing you expect when you hire movers is that they will move your things. What you do not expect, and what I've never heard of in all my years of moving and using different companies (at least four moves within the last 10-15 years) is that when the movers show up (not at the scheduled time even) and see two sticky traps set out near the kitchen oven as a precautionary measure due to a prior issue with mice thanks to construction next door, that the movers will insist that there are in fact rats and droppings everywhere, and that they don't feel comfortable doing their job. Fellas, I know that breakfront looked heavy, I know a 2nd floor walkup isn't fun, but you knew what you were being hired for, and you completely flaked out. Easiest move we've ever had to make! The owner, Tony, was pleasant, informative and very nice on the phone. He doesn't even take payment until the job is done! That's a quality company with high regard for one's integrity! On the day of the move, he kept in touch with us and updated us on the time the 2 movers would arrive. Andrew & Steve, the movers, were 2 of the nicest guys around...very efficient, knew exactly how to pack a moving truck, and were very careful with all of our belongings. Our apt was not where it was supposed to be so the guys had to get creative to move our furniture, boxes in. Also Dimitra and Tony were always pleasant and helpful over the phone. Q's Moving does what they say they're going to do. We just moved within the UES and had to be out of our place by 11am. The movers were delayed because of rain, but hustled to make sure we got out of there on time. They promised efficiency and definitely delivered. They also had the most affordable pricing for end/beginning of the month moving (believe me I did the research) and didn't hide any additional fees. It's a flat rate for the number of guys and then the transportation hour on top...that's it. They wrap, pack, etc all included. This is also the first time I moved without anything getting broken...definitely a plus. The office staff is family run, very accommodating and reassuring to make sure that you are happy with the move. My next move will be with them. read more

I was quite impressed with Q's Moving. We got a couple of estimates for an office move of 1 block. The estimates were almost identical. John the owner came and did the estimate himself. I went with Q's on a recommendation of a friend who used them twice for commercial moves and was very pleased. Our crew was Tom, Q, Jermaine, EG & Lester. They arrived on time, were professional and personable and also seemed to move quickly. I would not hesitate to use them again or refer them. I used this moving company a few years ago. The movers were great and caused only one minor scratch in the wall. Overall, my review for the guys doing the lifting was fine. Why I reviewed this company so low is because I was given one price over the phone which is thought was a really fair price. The day of the move comes, everything runs smoothe, and at the end I'm charged a lot more than what I was told over the phone. Apparently, since the move went over the allotted time (exactly 7 mins) I was charged for an additional hour. I explained that all that was being moved was a bedroom set and that the movers getting lost was not my fault. I was told there was nothing that could be done and that I had to pay the additional charge. I didn't think that was honest and it definitely was professional. I am very Happy with Q's Moving Company!!! It started out by the Team showing up promptly at 8:30 am even on a rainy day. The team wrapped the furniture like a newborn baby and handled with such care!!! It was a challenging Job they had to remove bannister to go up a very narrow staircase they also had to take disassemble and assemble the motor for the bed. This company came highly recommended, so I chose them as I had a 4 hour window to load my POD with heavy furniture, and I needed the most reliable company possible. Unfortunately, they got "stuck in traffic" for the entire 4 hours. It is unacceptable that the drivers were booked in gigs that could even potentially have a FOUR HOUR delay to begin with, but what was infuriating was that the driver kept insisting that they could make it in time to help me move at least the big pieces. I could have made other arrangements if they had simply said they wouldn't be able to make it. At one point they said they were 30 minutes away, but 45 minutes later, they were still 45 minutes away!!! At that point i cancelled the order, and told the driver not to come. I found two random strangers standing on the street and had them move the most expensive items I own. And just to add salt to the wound, the drivers had the audacity to SHOW UP as we were locking the POD and calling it a day. Our POD driver knew the Q movers and said he was shocked becasue they are usually really reliable. I don't know what happend here, but people need to know that there is still a risk with this company. Their unbelievably poor management of this order almost cost me thousands of dollars. read more

Moved from Astoria to Brooklyn. I priced a lot of different companies and their rates were very fair. The crew was great, very efficient and polite. Moved fast and didn't poke around running up the clock. Would use them again for sure. read more

I was being budget conscious at the time and was planning to rent a U-Haul and a few day laborers to get our 3 bedroom apartment move done. So when I went to Q's and got an estimate which was only about 10% more than I budgeted doing it myself, I was surprised and thoroughly relieved. To make it even better, Q's charged me exactly what was estimated. My first contact was with Anastasia who was as pleasant and knowledgeable as one would expect. Exactly at 8:30 am on the appointed day, four young men arrived at our home and immediately got to work. They had all of the move materials that Anastasia said they would need. The move crew led by Big Tom and accompanied by Mr Nice Guy Miguel, Doug the Life Saver and Gentleman Jermaine were always professional and worked carefully and thoughtfully for seven straight hours and got our move done exactly as estimated. I will admit that the move wasn't perfect - there was one furniture piece that had a small tear and there was a couple of minor scratches on our wood floor. I didn't mention it to them as I felt that these things do happen and I didn't want to turn an otherwise perfect day into a bitch fest. I only mention it here because I want the readers to know that this is a real review. I could only imagine what damage would have been if I did the move myself with day labor. I do a lot of work in the commercial move industry and these guys did as good a job or better than the union commercial movers. I hope I never have to move my home again, but if I do, I will hire Q's. read more
