They charged us an hourly rate for 4 people (like before) but this time only 3 people showed up, so it took much longer than should have. They stopped for one hour lunch on the drive between locations, so again, much longer. One truck arrived with some stuff already loaded so they needed to do an additional trip between locations. My husband and I had been dreading our move as I have a 4 months old baby and we were hesitant to hire movers due to covid... but these guys literally saved our moving experience. This was a great service! I had to change/delay the time of my move arrival, and they were so nice and accommodating. Also, I didn't do the best job packing, but the movers just took care of everything. They offered to pack up the stuff in their moving bins that I hadn't packed yet (which I declined bc I felt bad, but in hindsight should have). They arrived at my new place in under 30min. The whole move took around 4 hours, it was magic. This was probably the most complicated move I've ever done. A move to a four bedroom is a big deal, and so many things can go wrong so easily. It turned out to be the easiest, simplest, and most painless move I've ever done. Ralph the owner came to my home and did a thorough in-home survey before the move. He gave me a choice between a flat price and an hourly rate, and advised that the hourly rate would be better if I packed some of the things myself. He was 100% right. He dropped off a lot of boxes for us to start doing the packing ourselves, which must've saved us at least $500-$1000 in labor costs. The four-man crew that came in are outstanding professionals; they worked hard all day and always kept a courteous and polite attitude. They knew when to take my queue for a little bit of personal interchange, but snapped right back to respectful courtesy when it was over. The foreman, Rodney, is a consummate professional. Years of experience under his belt, he sees his job as a profession and a source of pride. Throughout the move he gave instructions, advice and guidance, and dispensed wisdom to members of the crew (Washington, Rock and Javier), who were all immensely experienced themselves. A true mentor and teacher. Instead of packing everything and just charging us for boxes and materials, which almost any other company would do, Rodney offered (and I accepted) to pack most things into large commercial bins which they can take back at the end of the move and not have to charge me for. The destination wasn't far away, and it was safe to do. Indeed everything arrived in perfect shape. Particularly our most important piece of furniture, our baby - the Steinway upright piano - was handled like the much-loved family member that it is. The final charges were a welcome surprise - much lower than originally estimated. I couldn't be more grateful. Now I can't wait for someone to ask me if I can recommend a mover. After making a reservation with another company through a shady broker (Alliance Van Lines), I scrambled to find a local company who could move me from NY to out-of-town on very short notice. Long version : On Friday afternoon, Octomovers and I'd agreed on the moving date and time (the upcoming Monday 9am), then Octomovers sent me a contract to sign. After I signed, I asked Octomovers how to pay the $50 deposit. Suddenly Octomovers stopped replying, mind you this was still Friday normal business hours. I tried email, yelp, texts, calls, no replies. Then on Monday morning the agreed upon moving time, 9am, Octomovers called and cancelled the agreement. read more

Great experience. The movers showed up on time and were very careful and efficient. The price was reasonable and I had three stops which they accommodated no problem. This was for a long distance move from NY to CT which can be even more stressful than your average move but the movers made it a great experience. Only negative comment is I did put down the small required deposit and then paid cash and noticed afterward that I was not credited for my deposit. When I brought this to the company's attention, they reimbursed me quickly but thankfully I noticed otherwise I would have overpaid.
