They arrived promptly at the beginning of the arrival window they gave, and they took absolutely everything - even things I wasn't sure if they'd be able to take (open crates & bags, a laundry rack, guitar stand, etc.). College UNeducated movers broke/damaged/scuffed just about all our furniture during a September 2020 move from a one bedroom apartment. Please see the pictures as they speak for themselves. Two young guys with a rented truck showed up completely unprepared, lacking in care and grossly negligent. Not enough blankets to cover furniture and zero disregard for our belongings. This company is UNINSURED and they have no official place of business. It's not too far from being a scam and I fully intend on pursuing legal action against them despite a full refund of my move. At the end of the move one of the movers had the gall to tell me he's sorry and that his partner is just "clumsy." I urge you to look elsewhere for your move so as to avoid the horrendous experience my wife and I had to endure. read more

We were left stranded on our moving day by College Educated Movers, and our move was passed to a mysterious subcontracted company whose workers showed up smelling like alcohol. At the start of the job, we comfortable with the original quote given by Nick and appreciated College Educated Movers' flexibility with the start time. Then our nightmare began. On the day of our move, at the END of the move-in window, we got a text that the movers would be an additional 1.5 hours late. After that, a series of blows came one after the other: 1. Not receiving any communication, despite requests for communication from "Jon", for an hour and a half after that (picture attached). Jon said he was with College Movers but.... 2. Upon (finally) speaking to Jon, we learned that Jon had never even met Nick, nor was Jon part of the original company I hired--meaning that College Movers had subcontracted out my move, meaning I was no longer working with the people I had hired 3. Writing to, and calling, Nick, with no response, on the day of my move (picture attached) 4. One of the men we worked with showing up smelling like metabolized alcohol. A late night partying the night before? Drinking on the job? Who knows? 5. The men showing up finally at 2 p.m.--a full three hours after our move-in start time. This started a cascade effect that pushed the rest of our move-in day out. We got our Uhaul late as a result, barely renting our truck in time before Uhaul closed, and we were moving boxes ourselves until 1 a.m. on a work night. When I wrote to College Educated Movers to describe our nightmare, their reply was, "If you chose to move again we will give you a very decent price for your move." read more

I really didn't want to write a negative review, and I probably would have given 3-4 stars, if it was not for the unprofessional manner in which they responded to a piece of furniture that the movers damaged. I had 2 movers on my move day, rather than the 3 that I was told would come. They worked rather quickly and efficiently but where quite rough with my things, resulting in multiple items being damaged. One of which was a mirrored coffee table. The mover, Peter, who broke it while he was standing right in front of me, offered to take it and have it repaired in BK. That was over two months ago and I still don't have it back. Dave is extremely communicative and quick to send over a quote and schedule the move. I've worked with a variety of different movers from the team and they have all been just as communicative and efficient (plus super nice guys!). We were very disappointed with this company. Movers disregarded our notes for moving a certain item and damaged a sentimental piece of furniture. One mover tried to carry a large table by himself and scuffed our doorway several times until my boyfriend had to step in and help (with a sprained ankle) to fix it. Felt as if we had to constantly monitor the move. Management didn't take any accountability and the supervisor we spoke to just blamed it on their "clumsiness" and offered an insulting amount as recompense. We were very happy with College Educated Movers for our move from NYC to NJ. From the start, they were very responsive and answered my many questions over email in a timely fashion. The movers were on time, showing up early within the window and giving us a heads up that they were on their way. They completed the move quickly, and our belongings arrived safely. They even helped us move items (that we did not put on the truck, but were nonetheless heavy) out of the Lyft we took to our new place. They did not show up in the two-hour window I was given, it was an hour and a half later. I also kept having to check in with them to see when they were coming. They also broke a piece of glass and, though they measured a duplicate glass to replace it, I haven't heard back. I am emailing to see if I can hear back, but that was 11/23 and it is 12/9 now and I haven't heard anything about it. Seriously, these guys are the best! I called CEM with 4 days move notice and a very specific week day move time- these guys were so accommodating. I was so happy to receive a flat rate price instead of the typical pay-by-hour estimate.The move didn't cost me a penny more than originally quoted. They arrived on time and had even offered to arrive earlier than my arrival window. I was move #3 out of 4 that day and Sebastian was one of the most chipper, pleasant guys I've ever met. I was quoted nearly $500 for 3 men, 3 hours for a single bedroom by other moving companies. College Educated Movers did it for less than $300, 2 guys in 2 hours flat. Not a single item was scratched or broken. Heads up, sometimes it's hard to get through using the phone number on the site and goes directly to a voicemail that is full. Remember that time the Time Warner guy came to tune up your cable box, and the phone rep gave you a four hour window to stay at home and wait? And you waited, and waited more...made a sandwich...talked to your plants. Finally, at T + 4:30 hrs the doorbell rang. Good grief. NOT the case with College Educated. These guys know, maybe from a few semesters of 8am organic chemistry lectures, that in the real world you either show up reasonably on time or skip it. I got a call a quick 20 minutes after my 2-hour window began -- the guys were headed my way from their previous job in Greenpoint. At 1:30pm the bell rang, and Keith and Josh sauntered in. Just as quick, they were out the door with bags over their shoulders, boxes in their hands. The guys are pleasant, laid-back, no nonsense movers. After packing my belongings into their graffiti-covered yellow truck, Keith ran to grab some coffees and croissants at Roasting Plant down the street. A taste for coffee a Yelper could love. Soon we were rattling down Allen towards my new place. (Along the way, their recommendation to check out Grumpy's in Chelsea for a great cup). Coffee gives the mind a lift, but I had very little envy for the guys with the job awaiting them. 5 steep flights of stairs vs. two wiry guys carrying a hulking pull-out sofabed capable of serious bone crunching. I remembered why I hired movers as I watched them trudge up. The move was relatively damage-free -- no broken dishes or picture frames. Unfortunately, my bedframe suffered a few dings and scratches from stair railings, as did the sofabed. Nothing tear-jerking, but keep this possibility in mind if you collect delicately finished fine wood antique commodes or beautifully upholstered Moroccan chairs. Luckily I don't. From start to finish, the move took a mere hour and a half. Even though you'd never pick these thin college kids out of the police line-up for some murderous mover case, they get the job done with courtesy and cheer. The office staff is excellent as well -- moving appointments set up painlessly via email, with flat rate quotes and quick response to questions. Go College. Remember how much fun you had? read more

So. I've used them four times -- each time had a problem but the guys were nice and the price was pretty good. 1st time -- only one mover showed up. I ended up helping him move all my stuff out, got a small discount for it. 2nd time -- broke some ikea shelf thing, didn't ask to be compensated because it was an ikea shelf thing and I wanted to be done with it. 3rd time -- broke my fan and a picture frame, both of which were not wrapped but fell off a cart and smashed due to carelessness. 4th time -- hired them to move a couch purchased on craigslist, guy called 40 minutes into the hour window I was given (I was the first move of the day) to tell me he was just leaving and would be another 40 minutes at least, after I emphatically stated I needed the earliest appointment so I could get to work. After 40 minutes, called to tell me he was in traffic. After another 20, called to tell me he'd gotten pulled over. He wasn't even in Manhattan yet. I was 20 minutes late for work and waited for 2 hours for no reason, then had to make another move appointment the next day. He was able to move the same day and seemed to be relatively quick, some stuff went missing but fortunately he was able to get it back and he got a FULL refund...mine took over TWO days, broken couch, damage to the building we were moving out of (which i will inevitably have to pay for) and only HALF of my money refunded. if anything they should be paying me for all the crap we went through (esp. money lost in furniture). If you have some things, they seem to be good, but if you have a bigger job, definitely stay away as they will only send two people to move you. If you're going to be taken for a ride - literally and figuratively - you might as well go with these guys. I'd scoped out this moving option several times but had always been deterred by the quote form (http://collegeeducatedmovers.com/movingform.html). But last December, as I faced yet another untimely move (prompted by a perpetrator jacking off on my fourth floor fire escape), I sucked it up and filled out the frigging form. It wasn't so bad, and it was useful to take an inventory of all the things I'd have to organize anyway. It was well outside of business hours, but I got a written response right away from a real person with a cell phone number. I called the number to ask whether it was REALLY true that they NEVER moved pianos. Well, she said, it was pretty much true that their two-guy teams had never actually moved a piano, but if I thought my spinet was really small and light enough, they'd give it a shot for $100 extra. Phone still in hand, I moved towards my piano and gave the corner a tug. "Yeah," I said confidently, "It'll totally work." While packing, I realized that, for someone who doesn't have a lot of shit, I sure have a lot of shit. I e-mailed the changes in my situation by replying to the original confirmation message and filling in the new quantities of the categories that had already been neatly broken out (small box, large box, bag, etc.). Again, I got a speedy reply that my changes had been noted, and that the estimate had risen to $380 - a marginal hike considering I was moving it all from Prospect Heights to Rockaway Park. They gave me the 8-11 a.m. window, and so eager was I to leave that I begged them to arrive as early as possible. This they did, towards the tail end of seven. Two young lads, let's call them K and T, arrived with cheerful dispositions. Immediately, we determined that the piano was definitely heavier than the couch (duh). I used one of their phones to magically coordinate piano movers (who are also AWESOME but don't even have a business name) to come whisk the instrument away and meet us later at the new spot. When the guys were done clearing the apartment, one of them asked if I'd mind going along with them to another job that was on the way. I thought nothing of it, because it was a beautiful day for a ride. So the guys moved an eccentric lady from Crown Heights to Brighton Beach, where I ran off to a B of A to withdraw cash for the piano movers. All good. After an hour and a half of this, we bid the lady farewell and drove at last out to the Rockaways, with both dudes shrieking "Oh MAN, this is SOOOOO DEEEEEP!" as the horizon give way to the Atlantic. We parked in the new 'hood and got lunch. One of the dudes opted for a cafe, while the other guy and I had burgers next door. It was then that I figured out that the Brighton move was for his own business on the side and that he was lucky that I'd gone along with it instead of blowing the whistle. I had the right to feel indignant if I wanted to, but the fact was that I'd had fun. Our companion returned as we were ringing out at the cashier's. As I stepped up to pay, he said, "Absolutely not; you've been so cool - the least we can do is pay for your meal." Funny that he - and not the work partner who'd been a bit of a shade - offered this courtesy to me. We walked back to the truck, where we found the piano movers also parked and ready. All at once, I was moved in. The double booker started rifling through my shoes when I said I didn't like them, saying he could sell them. I told him to forget about it. So that was a little weird, but I invited the guys to come chill on the deck any day in the summer, and they laughed that they might just take me up on it. Then just like that, they were gone. Damages? Minimal: Couch slipcover was streaked with dirt, but it's washable and I was impressed that two slight males were able to transport it at all. The back panel of my bookshelf was torn, but what more could you expect from an IKEA product. A corner of my queen sized box spring was dusty, but I was going to put a bedskirt over it anyway. The only thing that really bothered me was that a foot off of my turntable was lost. This really sucked because, in order to keep from scratching my vinyls, I had to shove an ugly rag under the corner to prop it up. I e-mailed the office. This time a dude replied that he'd as K & T about it...but that was the last I heard from anyone. All in all though, they moved some heavy stuff (AC, portable washing machine, records, TV, sofa) for a tolerable amount of money. Plus, I got some adventure and conversation out of it. Would I use this service next time? I don't want there to be a next time, period. But I'd not refrain from recommending them to others. But if you're reading this, K 'n' T - I want my turntable foot back if you show up on the beach this summer. read more

We paid $500 + tip for two people to do a job that the two of us could NEVER have done on our own. We moved from a 5th floor walk up to a 3rd floor walkup, from a large 1br apartment with a lot of stuff to a brownstone with tiny hallways and a crooked staircase. My boyfriend had overstuffed and poorly packed our extra large boxes so much that they were not only too big for anyone to carry, but also heavy as #$%@. I found out later that things were literally falling out the bottom as they moved them out. Despite this, they were somehow able to rescue everything and made sure it arrived to the new place safely. They were also remarkably able to carry several boxes that were lined SOLID with extremely heavy med school textbooks. The moral of the story: my boyfriend is not an excellent packer, but these guys are excellent movers. To pay it forward I definitely recommend you pack better than we did... **They also brought along a fresh roll of TP which we later found in our new bathroom! A useful thing to have waiting for you when you move in. read more
