I ordered a sofa (with a tubular metal frame) that ended up being just 4"-6" too big for my building's elevator! Very frustrating. Everyone recommended the Sofa Doctor/Dr. Sofa, so I called them on a Friday and they had a team at my building on Monday morning. Giovanni and his partner were very efficient and gentle. They started by placing the sofa outside on a soft mat and then went to work (see photos). They removed the upholstery, peeled back the foam, and cut the metal. Then they brought everything upstairs, mechanically fastened the metal tubes back together, rolled the foam up and re-glued it, and zipped the upholstery back up. No stains or scratches on the upholstery, amazing. The whole episode took less than 3 hours and the sofa looks perfect. Highly recommend these guys! read more

Completely appalling service. Their customer service reps, their intake process, their blatant disregard for customer satisfaction and the awful training with their team, its appalling they have a business today. As another business owner who is in the industry and regularly contracts out 3rd party for damages, refurbishing, replacements and furniture logistics, we have a long standing business relationship with Dr Sofa, but when it came time for a personal order, supporting my 80 year old parents, I was so upset, saddened, not only for my parents, but over how disrespectful their team, from the workers, to the managers, to the senior manager inn how they treated me, and my family. The entire employee org was so upsetting for me and my parents to deal with. Never again, and we will be ceasing business with them, and will let everyone we know in the industry to not use them. We have a sofa that they claimed they couldn't move (my parents asked their neighbors to do it) and they told me they had to cut a hole in the wall, and asked me to release a waiver of liability, when I pleaded with them to find another solution. The neighbors moved the sofa, and the entire time, Dr. Sofa's crew members sat on their phone and chatted in Spanish while my mother and one other worker did the reupholster, which looked like a bear chewed into it. Shoddy work, no one spoke English and could communicate with my parents while my parents did most of the troubleshooting and support. Madeline on their team should be fired, and their entire team should go through management and service training. I wanted to love this service but am just ashamed that anyone would treat anyone, much less 80 years olds the way they did. I am the homeowner. I paid Dreamsofa upfront for the service to be performed by Dr Sofa. This included an additional fee for both sofas to be carried up the stairs. At no time was I belligerent with the two people who came to my home to do the work. I left them alone to do their work. And I thought they did a good job and was very happy until I saw the front of the sofa the next day when I went to install the bases. It is not a "slight pull" - how can you look at the image I shared and say that with clear conscious? But to tell me afterwards that I had to pay even more money for services I wasn't aware of and for Dr Sofas negligence???? No, I did not ask for Dr Sofa to return and put the bases on for free. I think this same Dr. Sofa company is listed twice - once for a location in Brooklyn, and the other in New Jersey. I believe there's only one Dr. Sofa (it's a trademarked name) so I'm writing my review here. I had a bad feeling my sofa wouldn't fit up the common stairs at my new place in DC so I called Dr. Sofa ahead of time, sent photos of the sofa, the DC address, the hallway. The very nice customer service rep said they could do it, not a problem if it couldn't fit in. On Monday the sofa arrived, and it couldn't fit! The movers left it in the small hallway of the entrance to the building. I called the Dr. Sofa customer service rep, he said he'd be back to me in an hour. After a few hours when I didn't hear back, I called him and emailed. He responded by email that's he's working on it for Tuesday, and that they're in New Jersey, not DC, so it wasn't possible to come that day. I asked him to please let me know one way or another if they could come this week because otherwise, I'd need to get it removed from the hallway before Christmas since it is disturbing my neighbors. Today is Thursday. It has been a stressful few days with the sofa in the hallway and my trying to find alternatives to move it out to short-term storage if necessary (which with moving cost minimums/van rentals would cost almost as much as the sofa!). I had to change travel plans because I couldn't leave it... Lots of hassle (privileged people problems, I realize!) I finally heard back by email today (after calling and calling and emailing them) with an estimate of the amount to disassemble/assemble the sofa but no number to call to discuss the details and no potential date of service. So as I write this, after calling about 15 different movers and furniture repair places, I found a local person who had not advertised to do this work, but is currently here doing his best to help take it apart and get it out of the hallway and into my apartment. In our case, they were able to move the furniture without disassembly or reassembly and would not reduce the charge of $800 for 20 min of labor. I am really really upset about my recent experience with Dr. Sofa and the damage they have caused to my leather couch at such an incredibly high price point. I booked their services earlier this month to move a couch they had previously put together for us in 2019 and done a great careful job on. My original quote was $980 including moving and the charges for moving between two walkups. On moving day, they charged an additional $175 for two cuts they needed to make to the couch (a lot of money, but I figured that that's just what good work costs). Then, I got my credit card just got charged for $1,500 -- even MORE money than the $1330 I had agreed to. It would be one thing if they provided high quality service, but I was heartbroken to see they had extensively damaged my leather couch (I had my car double parked when they were doing the final installation, so only saw the damage afterwards). All of the corners have extremely visible damage and wear to the leather -- I'm attaching two illustrative pictures. Have used Dr. Sofa twice in the past with good results. Not this time. I had trouble with high prices, adding unauthorized charges afterward, presenting me with a forged document to justify the charges, and failing to act on promised fixes. I needed them to take apart and remove an old sofa and disassemble and reassemble its replacement. First, their prices have gone way up. They quoted me $690 for the work, which is a lot more than for similar work in the past - nearly as much as the sofa itself. Second, after the work was done, they charged an additional $300 to my card, with absolutely no warning. They said this was because the new sofa needed extra work and because they had to carry it 80 feet from my garage to my house. None of this was discussed at the time of the job. Third, when I protested, they sent me a work order with my signature purportedly showing approval of the extra charges. Except I had a copy of the original work order with my signature, which did not show the new charges. They had altered the work order and left my signature in the document. Fourth, when I complained to them and tried to work something out, they agreed to refund a portion of the overcharge. It's been 3 weeks, and nothing has been refunded. These people are dishonest. STAY AWAY! I had a leather armchair disassembled and reassembled by them earlier this week and the amount of damage they have done to the piece is sickening (see photos). They were rushed, careless and provided very poor workmanship (including a puncture to the leather!). I can't believe that I posted this review and then had the business comment that they are blaming competitors for using their name and to book jobs and they claim to have no record of it. 1. It is completely false it was a "competitor" unless the Detectives from the NYPD were lying to me. The courts who arrested and charged the man who stole from me were lying. I requested a repair, and after about two weeks of back and forth with miscellaneous customer service agents, Dr. Sofa sent two people to assess the damage to my couch. The agents who came to look at my couch were polite and helpful. However, the company also charged me a $60 fee for "travel" (aka an 8 mile drive from New Jersey), and I ended up paying $203 total for the assessment alone. When I asked why the travel fee was so high, they just kept telling me, "that's the service charge." So that's pretty frustrating and shady. I am still waiting for a final quote and to actually get my couch repaired. read more

In 2018 we hired Dr. Sofa to uninstall and disassemble a Murphy bed, then reassemble and reinstall it in our new apartment. Did a great job. This month we hired them for exactly the same service. Only after disassembling the bed and charging us $810 did they inform us that they would only reassemble, not reinstall, the bed in the new place. So we have an expensive pile of parts we cannot use. Apparently they are worried about the liability of attaching the bed to the wall. Fine, but they should have told us that before. They also need to change the language on their website and train their employees to inform potential clients of what is and is not included. I asked for a refund and they have refused. I do not recommend this company at all. They offer a service to pre-measure and guarantee that their measurements are correct. I had them come and measure for 200$ to see if it would fit. They never set me any measurements and took many days to simply reply " It will fit". I waited 6 weeks for my couch and trusted their assessment. The day it came and did not fit they did not offer any help and refused to put the 200$ I paid for the assessment towards disassembling the couch. They brought the sofa parts in and within 30-45 minutes had it completely put back together. Excellent job. The office representative I spoke with was very helpful. They originally sent the wrong truck for my move and this set us back about 3 hours on our tight move window, but they eventually were able to figure it out. We called for help getting our sofa into our apartment. They told us they would call us back if they could help the following day and never did. We figured out how to get the couch in ourselves and they called us the next evening stating they were at our place. We didn't get the call since we weren't expecting them. We got charged $480 and still have the credit card in litigation 2 plus months after we have move in for a service we didn't receive. We called the company multiple times with the credit card company on the phone and they always gave us the run around about the billing person not being in until she "didnt work for the company anymore". Bought a very expensive leather sofa from RH that upon delivery was slightly too large to navigate the turns in the hallways to our apt. Though it was too late in the day to schedule for the same day, we were able to have RH hold the sofa until we could coordinate a mutual agreeable day for both companies. Dr Sofa is not cheap, but the skill of the team they sent and the quality and attention to detail of our sofa was beyond measure. My husband asked if they had gone to school at Hogswarts! I corresponded with Eli at Dr. Sofa for close to 4 days to ensure that the dates and times were correct. I explained that Wednesday, June 24th worked well, as my fiance had to take a day off work to accommodate them. We set a time between 3- 6pm. Melissa called at noon asking if they can move the time up to 1-4pm. 4pm rolls around, 5pm rolls around, we get a call explaining their driver was 10 minutes away and they apologize. The actual driver called at 630 stating he was still on Canal Street, and they were stuck in traffic. Ever tried to go to the Holland Tunnel at 530 on a Wednesday in rush hour? It will take you two hours. So my Fiance is waiting all day (6 hours at this point) has been lied to twice about their whereabouts. I called corporate and spoke with the Sales Manager Ralph. He apologized profusely, offered me a discount, said they would make it up to me. I said today was the only day we could do this job, seeing you are not open Sundays. Apparently Eli in scheduling doesn't know his hours, because he originally told me they are not open Sundays, but Ralph said they are. We scheduled our second appointment for 9-10am this past Sunday (yesterday). I had a confirmation email, Ralph's word and sincere apology and that his guys would be there first thing. We were the first job. Did they show? Call? Send a fax? Email? NOTHING. I called the office, the answering service said "I'm not sure what you want me to do, there is no one here". These guys had the audacity to call me at 3pm saying we are in front of your house. We had a big job in Brooklyn. Are you kidding me? I wasted 2 full days, 14 hours total, waiting around for someone to come and take apart my sofa. A sofa, I am not even keeping. I called this morning, explained the situation. They offered me a refund (like that wasn't going to happen) and a 25% discount on a future job. Are you kidding? Flabbergasted at the way this was handled, communication is key to any successful business. No apologies, will give me back the 14 hours I stood by waiting, in an empty apartment with a couch with no cushions. read more

Horrible experience! The techs did not even disassemble as advertised instead they forced the couch putting major holes in my apartment and in my hallway. The techs now are denying the damages and no one is replying to my emails or anything. They charged me $535 to put holes in my brand newly painted walls. They tried tp spackle and left globs of spackle everywhere on my hardwood floors and spackle on my granite counters. No repainting or sanding or anything. My apartment is ruined now because of this. I have mixed feelings about Dr. Sofa. I had to miss a day of work because they were a day late, and we had a fair number of communication issues on the first day. But on the second, they were on time, responsive, and highly professional. And best of all, they did their jobs well. No charge had been discussed or agreed to, so when I followed up with Krystal (who handles all customer comms) to inquire about the charge, she sounded confused herself and could not reference any invoice or documentation explaining that charge. Eventually she got back to me stating the charge was for "unmet COI requirements." That doesn't make sense. At no time was a COI ever mentioned nor was any damage incurred, so why would this cost money? After asking for clarification Krystal stopped responding. Living in Northern NJ, a lot of houses have small door ways so furniture does not fit. I made an appointment with Dr. Sofa and I was truly amazed. The guys that came for the job were very courteous and knew their stuff. They indeed are surgeons! I had a sofa and love seat that I wanted to move into my basement for a game room. The gap for the stairs that led to the basement was very small, roughly about 27 inches. Brandon came in, looked at the situation and said, no problem. Within minutes they started working on my love seat, taking off the fabric at the seam, then making the appropriate cut to get it downstairs. Both pieces are now downstairs and you cannot even tell they were both cut. They seem stronger now than before. They came on time, did what they had to do, and I would highly recommend them. Sam from Dr. Sofa came through this weekend. We received a 8ft Restoration Hardware Italia Sofa on Friday morning from the delivery service. Unfortunately, the piece would not fit into the building elevator nor the entrance to our unit. We called Dr. Sofa at 4pm and were fortunate that one of their technicians was available to come at 6pm. Sam had a substantial job ahead, he worked tirelessly to take the sofa apart downstairs and move it into the unit. The surgery required was disconcerting however the final product looks brand new and we will definitely enjoy the sofa for years to come. Dr. Sofa will be receiving a call if/when we move again! They said that their work doesn't void the Restoration Hardware warranty and that they have their own warranty too. Great to see they stand behind their work. read more

The manager was helpful after complaining and removed some of the charges. Still a very poor experience but they tried to make it right Price was more than double what I was initially quoted. The delivery drivers were over 12 hours late and didn't finish up until after 2am!!! On top of that the company subcontracted the order to an outside vendor and marked up their costs. In the end the sofa looks good, but a really poor experience throughout. There are other vendors who do the same thing and will be much cheaper. read more

It was pretty high end two decades ago so i took it apart to see if it could be saved and realized that the frame was fine so off it went. Dr. Sofa was very easy to work with. Lots of conversation back and forth because I had particular requests. The production manager called me when they were working on it to confirm a couple of details. The office team is indolent and insulting. They are not friendly or helpful. I used these guys 10 years ago when I moved into my apartment. I called them again and they have completely changed. They sent one guy - who was lovely, Diego - and he had to work alone. He did not actually disassemble, although that is what they charged me. Absolutely horrible experience. Hired them to restore and refurbish my Classic Maurice Villency leather sofa. They promised complete restoration in 3 months. After allotted time frame I called and they couldn't find my sofa for another three months, instead of three months it took seven. They sawed my sofa in half with the promise it would be stronger than new upon reassembly but it was never structurally sound again. The Leather was not reconditioned and huge hole remained in main cushion. Returned sofa with no feet. There was a huge wad of tape holding back leather panel in place. Cushions no longer fit flush and major seam opened on back. Bottom line - They totally ruined my classic. When I called and complained they gave me the run around for weeks and then stoped taking my calls. Completely. Amazingly two years later, after I had gotten over their abuse, their President pinged me on LinkedIn and Wanted to connect, which I happily obliged! After noting the irony of the connection, I then politely conveyed my experience with his firm to him. I literally asked him to just come by an inspect the sofa and if he was proud of the work then I would let it lie. But if not, then they should restore. After weeks of bs runaround he didn't want to even see the horrible result of their furniture butchers and Blew me off.
