DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY- THEY ARE LIARS, DISHONEST, AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE IN MY LIFE. 1. Months behind schedule 2. Delivered cabinets with scratches 3. Treated with hostility and disrespect 4. Breech of contract with thousands of dollars over contract value due to delays/out of stock items 5. Blackmailed into signing NDA that voids our warranty, allows us no legal recourse, and forbids us from writing bad reviews - just to receive the services stipulated in the contract" We bought a kitchen with this company on the premise that they are one of the tops in the business-- do not be fooled. I have never been so inconvenienced, stressed, but most of all, disrespected dealing with a company in the service industry. We signed a contract in the summer of 2023 and paid for the appliances promptly when asked. But when the person who was helping us with our project left, everything was unorganized and they started scamming us. The people who took over didn't know anything about our order-- we had to explain everything again and resend the contract after they tried getting us to pay extra on everything. After the kitchen was supposed to come in December, it was delivered in February, and they hadn't even placed the order for the appliances, which they tried to make us pay double for after the prices were written in the contract. When the appliances finally came and we had to pay thousands of dollars extra (they hadn't placed the order on time and we had to pay the difference when our oven was out of stock), they refused to install our appliances without a fee of $500 PER APPLIANCE which was NOT written in the contract. After continuously arguing with them back and forth and they treated us with the utmost disrespect, we finally got the installer to come and put in the appliances almost a month later. After he had installed the actual kitchen, we noticed that there were scratches on numerous handles-- our project manager refused to even come and examine the kitchen until we, again, begged him. After all this money and time, they didn't even want to replace the cabinet handles, claiming the scratches were unnoticeable. When the installer came to put in the fridge literally after two months of this back and forth, he realized that they had ordered the wrong fridge. This was after they hadn't placed the order for the fridge handles, which they had demanded us to send them a wired transfer for. They told us that these two items would not be delivered until this July, which is a year after we paid our dues and signed the contract and 7 months from when they were supposed to install everything. We are now in the process of trying to get our money back, so we can place the order for the fridge ourselves. However, they are now BLACK MAILING us to sign a contract that prohibits us from reporting them or placing a bad review from them in order to get our money back. For the past month, we have been trying to reasonably come to an agreement with the company manager, yet he continuously hangs up the phone on us, and wont take any time to fix these mountain of problems. This impending issue will be taken to the Better Business Bureau and the NYS district attorney if we do not get our money back immediately. On top of the money, we have now spent a year of our lives in this torment and disrespect. Considering the money we paid and the way we have been treated, it is completely not worth it. Do yourself a favor and go buy a kitchen from one of the hundreds of companies that know the ABCs of etiquette and aren't run by scammers. This company should be shut down---shameful. read more

This is based strictly on follow-up service issues. I still love my beautiful kitchen, but recently had an issue with two of the baseboards. When I purchased my GKC kitchen, I was told that there was either a 20- or 25-year warranty on the cabinets as long as GKC did the installation. Several years later, there was a slight issue with a cabinet door, and I called the person who had worked with me. She immediately sent someone to repair the problem at no cost. This time, I tried to call the Red Hook store directly to arrange for service and got the business owner's cell phone. I explained the issue and he asked that I send an email with all of the information. He replied a few days later and said that it would be $595 for a service call. I wrote back and said that was ridiculous given the warranty and the fact that I had spent over 50K with his business for my kitchen. His response - they no longer sell the cabinet brand I have, the person I worked with is no longer there, he is not aware of any kind of warranty if GKC does the installation, they normally charge $795 for a service call, and he'll send someone at no cost to me if I agree to write a good review. Obviously I declined and will find someone else to fix the problem. I am extremely disappointed in this response. read more

This is my 2nd review (first in Dec 2017, scroll down on this site). We've now had our new GKC kitchen for 3 years. We have not gotten tired of it at all. On the contrary, being home for the last 5 months (and cooking a LOT more) has made us extra appreciative of the way our kitchen looks and the way it flows. Everything about it is glorious! The other day one of the drawers did not pop open as it should. We contacted Sam (with whom we'd dealt before) and he connected us with Richard Bocek. We were able to get a new piece of hardware, (dropped off at our apartment), and Richard guided my husband through the process of replacing the part. Problem quickly solved -- and at $0 cost to us. Our designer is Marwa and she did a great job with our kitchen. She was very patient with each and every step of our project. She also follows up with every step and made sure all our needs were fulfilled. We have a smaller kitchen so we had to make a couple of tweaks with the design and layout, Marwa was always there for us. They also have different price point for each design depending on your desired material so don't get intimidated by the "high-end" look. You might be surprised with what you can do with your budget. Three years ago we renovated an apartment in NYC and decided for the first time to customize a brand-new kitchen. We found Leicht through our decorator and iour kitchen is as beautiful today as it was three years ago. Just came up on the site today and realized I never gave a yelp review back then but it is maybe even more important now as it has withstood the test of time. The workmanship is beautiful, the many special features (automatic opening cabinetry!) are wonderful, the design process with Sheri was great and Mayan was a great help getting this done when we had building issues. I am renovating my kitchen in my apartment and replacing the wood flooring and painting under supervision of German Kitchen. Ms. Caitlin started to help me with the design of my kitchen and cabinets in their Brooklyn show room and later in their upper west side show room . she was professional and courteous and explain the plan fully , went back and forth with my daughters , finally she came to my apartment with Gabriel and went over the plan and measurements. Painting of the apartment was done with Tom supervision and Ozi, and was done professionally other than at the start there was some issues with the submission of company's paper work to building manager which was resolved eventually . at the present I am waiting for the cabinets to arrive from Italy and I was told it will take another 1-2 months . Once I know the tentative time for arrival of cabinets then they will start demolition of my old kitchen, replacong of wood flooring and Instalation of new cabinets . I cannot recommend German Kitchen more highly! We had such a wonderful experience working with our designer, Anna and the team of installers and our project manager. We went to GKC when we saw an apartment with a Leicht kitchen that we really liked. Our new apartment was perfect for upgrading to our dream kitchen so we wanted to make sure we got everything exactly right. Anna was amazing to work with. She was so patient going over various options with us and reworking the design until it was perfect. We spent a lot of time talking about how we work in the kitchen and we'd walk around the showroom so she could show us exactly how things would be spaced apart. It was very helpful to work this way because sometimes it's hard with just drawings. Not only was the design process fantastic, the entire process of working with GKC was great. I had a minor freakout the day we started demolition in our apartment and discovered that the closet we removed had a drainage pipe behind it right where our pantry was going to go. I reached out to Anna and she was onsite with a project manager within two hours. They quickly reassured me that they would cut the cabinet in the field and we would salvage what we could of the space. They also explained to our contractor how to "box in" the pipe so it looked purposeful. You'd never know from looking at our kitchen now that this was not deliberate. The one challenge we had during our kitchen reno was the timing of cabinet delivery. We were supposed to have cabinets onsite and installed about a week before we moved in. Unfortunately, Leicht held them because their shipping container wasn't full (not GKC's fault) so the cabinets didn't arrive until the week of our move. To say I was stressed was an understatement. Anna and her team moved heaven and earth to get the cabinets installed before our move. The cabinets and installers showed up on Tuesday. Normally I think they send two guys - they sent us many many more. There was an issue with our electrical and how our contractor had prepped the walls - no problem - GKC fixed it. They worked like crazy to get the kitchen done before the move and they did it! I think they finished just as our moving truck pulled up to the buildin Thursday evening. As with anything, of course there were a few minor issues that needed to be fixed and they have been completely responsive to them. This isn't a company who takes your money and then walks away. This is a company with good follow through. I never plan to move again, but if I did, we would definitely work with Anna and German Kitchen again. We have lived in our new home for six months and we cook a lot. There has never been a single time that we have wished we did anything differently in the kitchen. Every time we cook, including for Thanksgiving, we remark at how functional it is and how we really did lay it out perfectly for how we cook. read more

Unfortunately we did not have a good experience with the German kitchen Center. I worked with Gabriela and Hanna (Hanna seemed to be an apprentice) and found them quite unresponsive and Gabriela at times even discourteous. Aside from that I admit that I expected unsurpassed attention to detail from such a high end business; after all this is not Ikea, and I was disappointed with the design functionality and execution. We have several issues, the biggest is that the clearance for the fridge doors was miscalculated, so the fridge couldn't open properly. The kitchen center offered no concrete resolution and worse yet Gabriela was never to be seen or heard from again. She sent the installer Paul (who is lovely) and he suggested Gabriela should order a wider side panel. Since I never heard back from GKC I contacted him again and he then suggested I should cut my baseboards to provide door clearance, not an acceptable solution. Aside from that we are still waiting for door stoppers, several missing drawer mats and a scratched doorstrip but will probably never receive them. I do have a Stosa & Leicht kitchen in Germany and the difference is incredible. I do not expect that things are always perfect, of course issues arise but the most important is how companies handle those issues and and in this case it is subpar in all areas. read more

I went to Home Depot, Ikea, a few places in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and then when I thought I was done, I went to see German Kitchens and I absolutely fell in love with the design, quality, and finishes. I finally decided to renovate my kitchen and was looking for the right company to work with. A dear friend of mine recommended Germankitchen . He is a contractor and deals with them all the time. Now when everything is done, I'm really pleased with the whole experience. The crew was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I was impressed by the wide variety of styles, finishes and colors they had. I priced out prefab cabinets and higher end custom cabinets. I decided to go with custom, mostly for the higher quality of materials and the freedom to pick your own color and design. The price difference was not that big because they gave me a great deal.Germankitchen helped me design my kitchen, did the computer drawing and made sure we didn't miss the smallest details. She also helped me pick out countertops, backsplash, door pulls and even porcelain tiles for my floor! Truly a one stop shopping. I could not be happier with the quality my cabinets. They are very well built and look even better than I imagined. The countertops look great and the installation was fast and flawless. In fact, I was so excited I got a set of prefabricated cabinets for my rental unit downstairs. They got delivered in less than a week and the price was very good. Seven years ago, as my wife and I were looking into renovating our kitchen, we walked into the Leicht showroom near Lincoln Center in Manhattan. We were greeted by Garcia Taborda, their designer. We were impressed by his knowledge of the products and variety of finishes that would fit our budget. I was impressed by having a step stool that could be hidden under the base cabinet. After on-site inspection, Garcia was able to provide several designs for our 7ft. x 8ft. apartment kitchen making it more efficient and providing much more needed storage. The cabinets arrived on time. The installers were professional and courteous. The finished product surpassed our expectations. Recently, I notified Leicht that several doors were not closing properly. I was contacted by Richard Bocek, project manager, who offered to replace the door hinges. I preferred to do this myself and Richard dropped off new hinges and installation instructions. All worked out well. We highly recommend Leicht and several of our friends have now used their services and are enjoying their new kitchens. read more

Great experience overall and wonderful result. Worked with Jenny Beraha and can highly recommend her. With her attention to details and good taste in design, she made several suggestions that we would never have thought about but which added to overall functionality and visual appeal of our kitchen. We could see that her main goal was to make sure we like our kitchen and not to make more money from this project. Jenny made sure we spend our budget most wisely, explaining where extra money pays off and where we can save. Jenny also has a good eye in using available space most efficiently which was important to us since our kitchen space is very constrained. GKC kitchens are not fully custom (at least ours is not) but it came out very close to it with her help. Jenny was very patient with us, tirelessly addressing the slightests of our concerns and requests. I can say that final result exceeded my expectations. The quality of cabinets and finishes is high (these are Germans after all!) and design and installation process was smooth and stressless. We already recommended GKC and Jenny in particular to all our friends (everybody was impressed) and can do the same here, on Yelp. Having grown up in Europe, we wanted our new kitchen to be contemporary, yet affordable. We are kitchen people and spend a fair amount of time cooking and hanging out in our kitchen. We walked into the Red Hook German Kitchen Center just to take a look after shopping at the nearby Fairway. This review is written one year later. We love our new kitchen -- we couldn't be happier with it! The designer from the German Kitchen Center found creative ways to maximize our space -- guests routinely compliment us on the comfort and roominess of our kitchen. The cabinetry is stunning and super functional with storage features similar to my parents' kitchen in Europe. The detailing is beautiful and of solid construction; we have no doubts about the durability of the hardware, sink, and other components. The natural look of the Caesarstone countertop compliments the clean look of the other materials. The appliances they specified are fantastic; especially the stove (with uses something like 4 Bunsen burners -- never seen anything like it) and oven which inspired us to start our own youtube cooking channel. The vent has kept our house odor free and the dishwasher consists of two separate, independently running compartments! Fridge and freezer are energy efficient and perfectly functional. Why the four stars? We had a somewhat lengthy construction process which required a bit coordination with our contractor, a few phone calls and some flexibility -- the end result makes everything well worth it! Gabi, our project manager, went above and beyond ensure that the look and functionality of our kitchen meet high standards. He answered calls and texts promptly. He made the project come together. We recommend him! We want to add that the initially quoted cabinetry/appliance price was indeed what we ended up paying. The end product is as fantastic as we had hoped. We are writing this part to alleviate the anxiety that comes with the unknown and the upfront payments. We strongly recommend the German Kitchen Center to design and install your next kitchen. When I wondered into LEICHT's Kitchen warehouses in Red Hook, I knew immediately that this is what I wanted in my apartment. I've spent time in Germany and each time I go, the kitchens are amazingly smart, compact and the look and feel is right. The use of space is so smart, only Europeans know what it's like to make use of a very small space. When the time came, I contacted them at their offices in the 20's in Manhattan. I attended a seminar in "What Will My Kitchen Cost" which was quite enlightening. I soon realized these people are cabinet designers, not kitchen (per se) designers, but that was okay -- I knew I'd have to fill in the blanks (range, floor, refrigerator, sink, dishwasher etc. I was willing to research all that and buy it since the design element and quality was so outstanding. I do have an imagination and a streak of creativity for the finally picture, so it all was good. I worked with the designer. Her mock-up was identical to what I ended up with. She had a great sense of fung shui in what worked with what. My kitchen was your typical NYC galley kitchen with a little bit more room than most which included an EIK (for those how don't know the NY lingo, that's "Eat-In-Kitchen".) I ended up with one of the most beautiful kitchens imaginable. The installation took a day; the LEICHT contractor was efficient. There were lots of cardboard box recycling to deal with, but it was worth every minute. People who see this kitchen emit the "WOW" factor immediately upon seeing it. I couldn't be more happy. I can only highly recommend them if you're looking for a kitchen that "pops", will endure the test of time and increase the value of your apartment. It's not your typical kitchen reno with wood cabinets that absorb every flavor you cook. The product is contemporary, stable and smart. Just do it! read more

I had a great experience at the German Kitchen Center. Everything in here is smooth, simple and lovely. They offer the best of modern design at a great price. They carry the kind of cabinetry and countertops that feel like silk beneath the hand. The designer who helped me was Anna Pilipenko and she did a great job of listening to my concerns and ideas and helping me come up with something that I was going to like. I had a kitchen design done by an architect that I wasn't totally happy with and Anna went way out of her way to create an altered design that would work better for me. I bought Nobilia cabinets in the end that I used for the more visible part of my kitchen and mixed with Ikea cabinets of an almost identical design for the less visible island (for various reasons, the Ikea was more customizable to the island design, and it was cheaper and would show less). The installed kitchen is beautiful (I'll try to add pictures, eventually). It's interesting to see the small differences that make the Nobilia stuff look SO much better than the Ikea. The finish on the cabinets is richer and more luxurious, the handles are thicker and have a better gloss, the drawers and doors open more smoothly. Already, the Ikea is showing wear and tear and the Nobilia is not. For kitchen cabinets, the German Kitchen stuff was not that expensive, an affordable splurge. Anna also really worked with me to get a design that would come in at my pretty low budget. I took a very long time between first discussing the cabinets with the German Kitchen Center and placing my order (around six months) and Anna was patient and helpful throughout the process. I never felt like I was unwelcome or wasting her time. Other people have mentioned that the foreign measurements add complication to the design process and that's true. You need to be aware of that. There are a lot of little details that need to be converted, but having done that correctly ahead of time I had no problem with my appliances or anything else fitting, and no surprises. My installation was done by my contractor, who had no trouble with the Nobilia system. I did a fair amount of research, and I didn't find anyplace else in the city that had such exciting designs at such a good price point. read more

We had deceided to renovate our NYC kitchen and after looking at several other kitchen design centers we went with Leicht/GKC, and we could not be happier with our choice. The end result is a gorgeous, sleek and a much more functional kitchen then we ever had. When friends and family stop by to see what we have done they are amazed at how much larger our kitchen looks- not just how beautiful it is. Firstly, I must say the quality of the cabinets are fantastic: soft closing draws and gliding pull outs in the corner cabinets. Mayan and his design team showed us how to maximize the space without making it look small or cluttered. They came to our apartment to measure and get a feeling for our taste, then made suggestions accordingly. Mayan and his team really showed me what would work best in my kitchen, and everytime I walk into it I am thrilled. I did order my appliances through Leicht and I found the prices to be very competitive. We also ordered our countertops and the backsplash through them as I wanted their design expertise and to handle all the details. There are so many elements to think about when designing a kitchen! Even when I asked the design team questions regarding my floor choice, and the paint color on the remaining wall, everyone was willing to help. I know it saved me from making costly mistakes. Most importantly I want to compliment the commitment to service and quality. When the kitchen was first installed a cabinet somehow became damaged. I was heartbroken. Mayan sent someone over to fix the cabinet immediately and when the installer said it would be best to replace it Mayan did just that, He really stands behind the product.. We are so happy and grateful to have found our Leicht. Purchased a beautiful kitchen from the Red Hook location and we continue to be impressed by their dedication, care and follow through. They went above and beyond with a number of challenges during installation, taking time during off hours to ensure that not only their products were excellent but we felt like a part of their family. German Kitchen Center - Interior Design Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

We had a full kitchen installation last summer and could not have had a worse experience with German Kitchen Center. Every step of the installation process was a complete shambles and it was shocking how incompetent the staff were. To start, when measuring for cabinets, they didn't account for uneven floors, which is completely typical in New York apartments. They should have measured from more than one point but did not do so. Instead, they installed the cabinets without adjustment which meant one end was flush with the floor but another end was literally three inches off the floor. They left without providing any explanation or insight as to how they were going to solve the problem. When our general contractor pointed this out, they had no idea how to fix it. Our contractor had to walk them through the process of fixing it, which took weeks. Because of faulty measurements, there were a number of cabinets and cabinet doors that needed reordering, which took 8 weeks. They also lost all of the hardware for the cabinets, which took 8 weeks to reorder. Again, there were no apologies or explanations. They recommended a hood over our range and they had absolutely no idea how to install it. They initially had the hood venting directly into a cabinet above the stove which defies even basic logic. When our contractor pointed out to them that the hood cannot vent directly into a cabinet, they claimed it was fine and that was how the hood worked. We had to press them into asking the manufacturer how it should vent. When the manufacturer told them the hood needed to vent into open air it literally took them months to figure out how they could make this work. Eventually, we suggested something that they executed. This was for a hood they recommended! Throughout the process, our project manager, Gabriel Levy, would tell us he was coming to fix something or take care of something and then not show up or show up hours late. Often, he would show up at times we repeatedly told him didn't work because our building limits work to between the hours of 9-5. It was actually mind-boggling how many times this happened. Often, Gabi would send others to take care of issues we had. One guy showed up twice without any tools. In order to take additional measurements for a cabinet that didn't fit and needed reordering, he literally had to stand on one of our dining room chairs because he didn't bring a step ladder and used a piece of cardboard torn off from a box to take measurements because he didn't have a tape measure. Who shows up to take measurements without a tape measure? He ended up borrowing my tape measure and then absconding with it. Perhaps he needed it for his next appointment. If you are thinking of getting your kitchen redone, I strongly encourage you to go elsewhere. I can honestly say they may be the most incompetent and unprofessional people I have ever worked with in my life. read more

We were told that our new kitchen will be done by last November (SEVEN months ago), and yet as of today we are still waiting for GKC to come and finish their job, having had to chase them for weeks at a time without any responses. It was by far the most stressful part of our reno. It caused months in delays, during which time we lived in a construction zone without a kitchen (not even a fridge) nor living room with dust everywhere. Even now, we still have no definitive timing or solution from GKC. We ordered in August 2016. Their protocol was to do the measurement themselves to guaranty a fit. However, when the cabinets arrived 3 months later, it turned out that GKC's own measurements were wrong, and one row of cabinets was longer than our actual wall. GKC first denied their mistake and then tried whatever they can to patch it up. For the last 7 months, they have made over 10 different trips to our apt to (1) cut up the existing cabinets to force a fit and (2) bring random pieces of wood and doors they found in their warehouse as substitute. After a few months, they finally ordered new cabinets/doors. We waited a few months after that, and when the doors finally came they were the wrong handles. Then it was weeks of silence and non-responsiveness again. We tracked down the owner, who was equally unapologetic and not helpful. In the meantime, our contractor couldn't finish their job, and had all of their tools spread across the living room. We couldn't hook up our fridge or stove because the frames they made were wrong also. As of today (June 2017), we are still missing an upper cabinet with correct lighting. The worst part of this was their service. The GKC employee/manager gave us attitude and refused to take accountability for what they did. The owner made it seem like they were a big business and small clients like us didn't matter. They make you pay in full up front before the cabinets are delivered at which point you lose all your leverage. Yes, they have modern designs at reasonable prices but if anything goes wrong (even if it's their fault), good luck on getting it fixed. read more

The cabinets are beautiful, but every other part of the process was a disaster. Cabinet dimensions are very different from U.S. standards, which results in less storage capacity than desired. It also makes the design process very complex and, in my experience, necessitated many design revisions. So many things changed from one design to the next that it was difficult to keep track of important elements, and the staff takes no responsibility if the customer misses a change in reviewing a revision. Fabrication and delivery takes forever, and if anything is missing you have to wait weeks because they won't provide expedited shipping (even at customer expense). The owner (or manager -- not sure which he is) was aggressive and rude. I wish I had gone elsewhere. read more
