I don't know what happened to this place. My first experience couldn't have been better. I recommend them to my other people who also had a good experience. But it seems the company is under new ownership. My more recent job with them was subpar. When I reached out to them, they tried to blame me for misusing the item. The item was a diner booth bench. I was sitting on it! How could I misuse it?! Eventually they agreed to pick up and fix it but not before I had to fight with them to do so. Everyone makes mistakes. I was just harassed by employees of this store while walking my elderly RESCUE dog. The driver pulled over to inform me that my dog is being abused and he would report me. Clearly he does not know how cancer works and that it causes weight loss, though it is none of his business to begin with. As a woman being screamed at by two grown men in a truck is completely intimidating and this store needs to be aware of the actions of their employees. I was so upset that I completely forgot I had my phone on me, luckily I remembered and was able to snap a picture before they pulled away. I would give OscarDeco zero stars. My experience with them looked like a plain scam. I got a quote to reupholster a larger ottoman for $600 or so and selected a nice leather material with the sales person in the shop. When Oscar came to pick it up the price had changed to around $900. He asked for a deposit of $400 and I wrote a check. Surprising, but I had asked for leather so....I went with it. Soon after that I received an email invoice for $1500. We cannot afford this and would never have agreed to it at the beginning. Delivery and pickup charges (1 mile or so distance) were billed at $80, which is an inflated cost. A comparable hired car is maybe $15. We went back to the store and got our ottoman back (and brought it home in a hired car for $15, including tip.) . They promised to return $190 of the $400 deposit. That was about 6 weeks ago and we've received nothing. The sequence of events looks alot like a plain scam. I was grateful to get my ottoman back before they tore it apart. read more

Did an amazing job re-upholstering my chaise lounge chair I inherited from my grandparents. Also built a pillow for it that has feathers inside with a dowel that holds it in place so that you can adjust where you want it. Unfortunately I'm going to have to go back because now a leg has broken but it has nothing to do with the work they did-it's just an old chair. Only downside was that although I had a friend with a van drop it off with me I had to have Oscar Deco deliver it and it was expensive ($150 I think) for what amounts to a 10 minute drive. Overall though I highly recommend especially if you can drop off and pick up yourself. read more

I was absolutely delighted with my experience with Oscar Deco - both the finished product and the help and communication along the way. My grandmother's loveseat was in terrible condition, needing re-upholstery and fixes to the springs and frame. I was concerned particularly that the springs might be replaced with foam - but Oscar and team were transparent about the work that would be needed, and sent pictures mid-way through to show the springs in the process of being fixed. We purchased all new furniture, and on one of the side chairs , I felt that it was a little low, and not enough cushioning. I decided that we wanted a cushion added to the chair, even though it does not have one usually. I called Room + Board and ordered one full extra yard of fabric. After it arrived I made a paper template of the custom cushion, and I took the fabric and the template into the store. We had a brief conversation/consultation, and after deciding on the cushion height and density, it was in their hands. About a week later, they called and I picked it up. After placing it on the chair it is absolutely perfect. Every single person who sees it thinks the cushion was always part of the chair. In fact, we started with a "test" that we could live with a weak outcome; instead, it came out better than the original finish, as Oscar found the wood to be much richer, going back to natural grain, than I thought. Three more pieces followed: 1 had to be exactly the same, only refreshed, 1 needed 100 years of shellac removed and veneers matched, 1 had been headed to the curb after 50 years in grandma's basement. All 4 pieces, 2x modern handcraft, 2x 100+ y.o., came out wonderfully. Each will be showpieces in our renovated home. Total: 1 modern shaker bench, 1 modern console table, 1 early 20th low cabinet or side-server, 1 early A&C era large bespoke sideboard. I wanted to take the opportunity to speak to the craftsmanship, customer service and professionalism experienced when working with 'Oscar Deco'-- particularly Oscar and Aida. My boyfriend recently had his leather couch and love-seat, which was distressed and peeling, re-upholstered with high-quality resistant fabric. The 'Oscar Deco' team executed the relocation of his furnishings to their design warehouse without a hitch; the moving crew was timely, efficient and ensured that no damage was inflicted to the furnishings or walls. Communication was solid with the 'Oscar Deco' team regarding expectations, fabric selection and the completion date was fulfilled. Overall, the final price incurred was reasonable (this is not an inexpensive service, FYI), as the items had to be transported and a high-end material was selected. Post-delivery, it was noted that the alignment of the in-set cushions and seams weren't quite symmetrical or as pronounced as it had been with the initial leather exterior... especially noticeable in the love-seat. Even though the new material (liquid repelling micro-fiber) greatly differed from leather, this was the result of a slight inefficiency with the sewing and filling/stuffing of the upholstery. A service call was requested to remedy the matter but even after the repair visit, the justification of the seams and cushions still seems "off" and hasn't settled with use. Nonetheless, it is clear why this business is renown for their furniture upholstery in the NY Metro area; I would recommend this business to others and possibly acquire their services in the future. It would have been a 5-Star Experience if it weren't for the fact that the final product left a bit to be desired; the off-centered seams and non-symmetrical cushions on the love seat are a slight eye-sore. read more

Extremely disappointed . I took 4 very hard to find vintage wood dining chairs to them for restoration. After waiting 2 months, most of the time with no commitment as to when they would be done, I went to pick them up. Upon entering the shop I was immediately confronted by Oscar blaming me that the reason the chairs were wobbly was because I didn't want pay another $100 each to have the chairs glued. Also that he told me this 3 times and I refused. All while bragging about the wonderful job he did anyway . I said that I don't remember him saying it needed to be done. His wife Aida backed him up on this story and showed me an email where she had asked me , before they saw the chairs in person , "do they need gluing ?" In fairness, I did reply "I don't think so; they seem sturdy.". As professionals, and after having the chairs in their shop for 2 months, I think that they should have told me I needed this to make the chairs secure. Not once did I squawk or haggle over their price. I found all of this strange , and it made me very uncomfortable. After having the chairs for two weeks, the stain/finish on 3 of the 4 chairs are chipping. The wood on the all of the chair legs are rough in spots and the stain application is sloppy and not consistent. The upholstery job they did is just ok . The padding/seating material they used is thin and crunchy and not comfortable. That on top of 2 of them not being safe to sit on, is extremely disappointing. Having been recommended by a friend, I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they could do a good job. They most definitely did not this time. The job they did was unprofessional . I will need to have them properly fixed , re upholstered , and refinished. Needless to say, I will not be going back there. read more

I visited the Oscar Deco showroom in Corona after seeing the great reviews on Yelp. I met Aida, a beautiful, gracious lady who knows her business and especially knows how to make you feel comfortable with the process. We were starting from scratch and she walked us through it all. She took us next door to a fabric store but when we didn't find anything suitable there, she helped us choose a gorgeous textured fabric from the many books she has on display that would work well with our sofa bed and chaise. A week later, Oscar came to pick everything up. He and Dad (truly a family business) took the sofa bed apart quickly and efficiently and left with the furniture. After less than two weeks, the reupholstery was done, earlier than expected and looks absolutely beautiful. Everything with Oscar Deco was great - communication was fast, they paid attention to detail, were patient, professional, courteous and talented. On top of that, the cost didn't break the bank. Oscar brought my 10 year old couch back to life! Everyone that sits on this couch loves it and asks me when I am getting rid of it. My friend in Tennessee even said she would drive to NYC to get it from me. I am a thinking that one night I will come home and it will be gone....and then I check Facebook to find a friend posting a picture of it in their house saying "mine now", especially after they find out that I had all the cushions refurbished. For a while we have been sitting on really flat bottom cushions. I did my Yelp research and found Oscar. 5 stars from everyone, well who could beat that. NOBODY! From the moment I walked in the door of the shop I felt so welcomed. Aida was just such a gem, explaining exactly what they would do and that they dont rush a job and that they do it right not fast. She taught me about dacron and the rapping of the dacron and the foam, it was very clean they were experts. I was quoted a reasonable price and then quickly drove home to get my second cushion bottom. Later that evening I looked at my almost bare couch and realized I had 5 back pillows that also needed to be fixed. The next day I took those also in to Oscar to be redone. Aida explained to me how they would make the new insides for the pillows and how much I would love the outcome. So I would say it was around 3 weeks for the job to be finished. I think that is really reasonable for quality work. I picked up all of my cushions yesterday and the back pillows. We did the sit test and wow were we happy. Its such a difference. I dont think these cushions were this good when I purchased the couch new. I really cant say enough about how fabulous this experience has been. I am having Oscar pick up a very expensive leather chair (passed down heirloom) next week because the springs are falling out of the bottom. Thats how much I trust in Oscar. If you want a quality job, this is definitely the place to go, but have patience because quality takes time. He works with a passion for what he does and you can tell that immediately. We recently used Oscar Deco for two jobs. For those short on time or who don't like to read, here's the bottom line up front: the quality of the work and the overall experience are outstanding and I cannot recommend this company strongly enough. In fact, that's what I've been doing offline with people I know, and now am doing here, for the benefit of those I don't know. Because in truth, I found Oscar Deco through Yelp, and it's only right to give back to the community when I've been done such a fine turn by it. I contacted Oscar Deco because we had just had nice new wood windows installed into our apartment, which were somewhat butchered by the installation crew. After I got the window company to agree to reimburse the cost of having an outside company do the repairs, I went about finding the talent. First stop was a big outfit (name withheld) that I had done business with before and who do great work. Problem is, they're too big for my little job and they don't pay attention to me. They didn't years ago when I had some refinishing work done (which they did well, even while frustrating me no end by never returning a call), and I'm still waiting for the call back from my initial call to them 3 months ago about this job. Well, on to Yelp and Oscar Deco and I couldn't be happier. I called in mid December and spoke to Aida--who runs the office--and she was very up front and told me it would be awhile before they could do my job as they were busy (a good sign) and the holidays were coming up, etc. Oscar came over about a week or so later to see the jobs (more on job two momentarily) and I was immediately taken with him. This guy is not only talented, and has an obvious love for what he does, but he couldn't be a nicer person. So, make note: if you've got a job that requires on site work (like our windows), you will feel extremely comfortable having Oscar in your home. Just a great guy. While we were getting the windows done, we decided to have a set of small tables I'd inherited from my parents refinished. They are very unusual and quite nice, but were beat up and needed a lot of attention. Oscar did a great job on our windows patching where the installers had shot nails through the frames, but I don't think a job like that really could reveal his skills. But the table job was a different matter. Inlaid wood, different types of wood, damaged or missing moulding features, dulled brass feet on the legs, in all quite a few things that needed to be done to restore these things. And the result was striking; they look amazing and, frankly, like different pieces now that they've been unearthed from yellowed varnish and years of neglect. When Oscar dropped the tables off he was almost giddy describing how much he loved the tables once he could really see them. His enthusiasm was infectious. I mean, I liked the tables, and they hold sentimental value for me, but even had I been indifferent beforehand there was no way to be after hearing him talk about them. He just loves this stuff and that comes through in the way he does his work and the way he and Aida run the business. One caveat. I definitely do not have the impression that this is a large operation. If you need something done right away, be prepared to be told it can't happen. But if you, like us, have something you want done really well, at what I thought were reasonable prices, and by people you will be very happy doing business with, call Oscar Deco. read more

We just had our grandmother's 100-year-old Singer sewing machine repaired by Oscar and the folks at Oscar Deco Inc. They did a beautiful job, paying attention to detail beyond what I could have imagined. Can we give 6 stars? Can we give 10? First, Oscar and Aida are true craftspeople who clearly take enormous pride in the work they do (as they should... it is beautiful). Second, we thought they were the nicest people in the world, and they took such care and interest in our pieces, as if they were their own treasures. But we had entrusted them with two of our treasures: a pair of walnut "Bastiano" lounge chairs that my parents bought from Stendig's in the 1960s, and a cherry wood dining set my wife and I bought for our young family 20 years ago when living briefly in Japan (and had stretched our budget at the time to do so). We had raised our kids with these pieces. And before that my brothers and I had grown up with those lounge chairs. Both sets are of enormous sentimental value to us, and we also love them as pieces. Both were originally well-made and so still solid structurally, but sadly in both cases the wood had never really been properly cared for, the fabric was in tatters and the cushions and seating support were shot. We had the lounge chairs refurbished once before about 10 years ago by a local shop in Tribeca but weren't really satisfied with the results. Although expensive, the work was very "make do". We thought at the time that was the best you could do. Oscar Deco restored both sets to their full glory, even revealing some fine details in the lounge chairs that I had never known were there. We had been nervous about getting the stain coloring and the finishes right, but they got them both exact. We were particularly nervous about the cushions for the lounge chairs - they had to be completely remade and we did not have the originals as a guide. But again, after asking us some questions they knew what to do. (We visited their shop mid-way through the process to try out a mock-up of the new foam cushions before finalizing, and aside from being happy with the result we couldn't help but notice the obvious pride they showed in all their work as we talked about some of the other pieces in their shop. It was very comforting.) And while we are laymen here, the stitching on the cushion and seat covers appears to us not just professional but expert, very high quality, and honestly exceeded our initial expectations (and though our visit to their shop had lifted our hopes, they exceeded those as well). The work took time, but they were upfront about it, and in our opinion the results justify it. We think New Yorkers should be happy - and proud - to have the talents of Oscar Deco available to them. We will be forever grateful to the Yelp community for helping us find them. read more

Oscar Deco is a fantastic family-run business that does incredibly beautiful and, more importantly, competent work. In a nutshell, I had a dining room table that was in DIRE need of refinishing, and two accompanying chairs that had to be repaired. Oscar and his uncle showed up on time and carted everything off (they even put booties on so as not to track in any dirt from the streets). When they came back a few weeks later, I was totally shocked by the new table I got; it was as if it'd arrived fresh from the factory. The table glowed like never before, and a section of the table that'd been damaged years ago was now repaired beautifully. Oscar's office staff -- his son, Andrew! -- is super respectful and helpful as well. When a question about an expired Yelp offer came up, Andrew explained that the offer had expired, but was gracious and apologetic...and applied the discount anyway. That's one of the beauties of working with a family business; they understand the importance of customer service. And you totally get that at Oscar Deco.
