Absolutely horrible experience. Hired them to restore and refurbish my Classic Maurice Villency leather sofa. They promised complete restoration in 3 months. After allotted time frame I called and they couldn't find my sofa for another three months, instead of three months it took seven. They sawed my sofa in half with the promise it would be stronger than new upon reassembly but it was never structurally sound again. The Leather was not reconditioned and huge hole remained in main cushion. Returned sofa with no feet. There was a huge wad of tape holding back leather panel in place. Cushions no longer fit flush and major seam opened on back. Bottom line - They totally ruined my classic. When I called and complained they gave me the run around for weeks and then stoped taking my calls. Completely. Amazingly two years later, after I had gotten over their abuse, their President pinged me on LinkedIn and Wanted to connect, which I happily obliged! After noting the irony of the connection, I then politely conveyed my experience with his firm to him. I literally asked him to just come by an inspect the sofa and if he was proud of the work then I would let it lie. But if not, then they should restore. After weeks of bs runaround he didn't want to even see the horrible result of their furniture butchers and Blew me off. TERRIBLE. DO NOT USE. I was expecting to have my sofa professionally cut as advertised. I was moving within the same building and I was promised that there would be no issues moving it from one apartment to the other. Only one person arrived, he took one arm off the sofa and then I had to ask people from the building to help move it. The person who came had no protection for the walls, thus the wallcovering in the halls was scratched and the elevators as well. I received a call from Dr. Sofa and although I was expecting an apology, they called me to tell me they would charge me more because of the difficulty. They were going to charge me for moving it, even though it was someone from my building doing the work. After a long conversation, they agreed to not charge me, or so I thought. They then charge me additional for taking the sofa apart, which you would think that is what their service does. You would be wrong to think that. I would have rather thrown this sofa in the trash and bought a new one that to use them ever again. read more

What a joke. Called to schedule a disassemble, delivery and reassemble. When my sister called she was given one quote. When i called they gave me the same quote then acted like they didn't know about the delivery so they added an additional $55 to that. Went from $395 to $455. Took my card to hold the appointment and i was told nothing would post to my account. 2 hours later (10 pm on a Saturday night) i get a message that they're adding another $250 for a delivery fee???!!!! I check my account and low and behold the $455 is pending so i am unable to use those funds. Monday is a bank holiday so nothing will post back until at least Tuesday. No manager is getting back to me and I've tried to get a hold of one two times. Do they really think it's ok to hold the FULL AMOUNT OF THE SERVICE for almost a full week before it was scheduled for ?!!! We're not talking about $50 here. It's almost $500!!!!! I am fuming mad at this company. How they have any good reviews is beyond me. They are so unprofessional and a huge ripoff. It's not reasonable to pay $705 to have a couch taken apart delivered and put back together. I couldve gotten new couches for that amount of money! Stop scamming people you thieves !!!! read more

I never ever post or leave online reviews, but I felt I needed to after my experience with Dr. Sofa and what an awful experience it was - they should be ashamed. First off, I had an appointment scheduled(the window for arrival was between 4-7pm), and they never showed up...no call, no email, nothing at all. I called their office at 7:30 and was transferred to their off-hours messaging service, they told me they would have someone contact me right away. Surprise surprise, no one called me back. I called their offices the next morning and they told me they had left a message with someone, but they must have had my wrong number...BS! I told them I no longer wanted to use their service, and they said no problem...Much to my surprise, 3 weeks after I told them I didn't want to use their service a $360 charge appeared on my credit card...thanks Dr. Sofa - first you didn't show up, then you charge my credit card! What kind of cracker jack operation are you running?!?!? I've disputed the charge with my credit card company, seriously, did you think I wasn't going to catch that??? I wound up using a different service - NY Couch Doctor...guess what, they showed up when they said they would, and did the job perfectly. I just got estimate of my sofa, disassemble and assemble, that was $575. (my sofa didn't fit into elevator, I had to pay extra money to movers to walk up stairs- and I plan to move out again) are you kidding me? I'd better buy new sofa then, couple of times disassemble and assemble, I rather get rid of this sofa then buy brand new one. Hired Dr. Sofa to disassemble and reassemble my sofa that couldn't fit in the elevator. They quoted me 350$. I arranged time frame from 9-1 pm Saturday morning. They said that they usually don't do it on weekends so they charged me extra 60$ for weekend and extra $60 for travel time(which is not clear to me why since I live in Brooklyn. ) but nevertheless I organized my movers to bring sofa from warehouse at 9. Then Friday 5 pm I get voicemail saying that they needed to move appointment to 1 pm. So again I needed to reorganize my movers to come as late as possible so I don't spend time waiting on technicians. Meanwhile they already charged me 470$ on Wednesday. At 1:30 no one shows and I am in lobby with sofa calling them 7 times. No one can give me any information or number of technicians. They supposed to send me confirmation email with his number but they never did. Technicians calls me at 2:30 pm saying that he will be there in one hour. They showed up at 5:15 pm. I had to bail out my job because no one could stay and watch sofa in the lobby. On top of that they charged me $200 extra for disassembly the arm because it couldn't fit in elevator. (That was the problem in the first place. ) they never apologized or offered discount because of the wait time that occurred. I honestly wanted so bad for this to work out but I will never use them again nor I will ever recommend them to anyone. Super unprofessional and undertrained customer service. Dr. Sofa saved my tail when I moved into my apartment. They came on a moment's notice and disassembled and reassembled my massive couch so that I could get it in my apartment. The couch looked just as good reassembled as it did when it first arrived from Restoration Hardware. I scheduled Dr. Sofa again two years later when I needed to move out of my apartment. They arrived right on time (which was crucial since I was also coordinating with a moving company). The service went well again, but I had a small issue this time. The staff was so friendly and helpful. They set up the appointment THE SAME DAY. I asked how fast can we get someone to the apartment in Midtown - she stated that someone hold be there in about an hour. I provided her with the Restoration Hardware couch information. Johan M arrived an hour later and was professional and extremely nice. He was able to take apart the couch quickly move it into the apt and put it back together quickly. I had ordered a new sofa for a new apartment. I measured the room to make sure it would fit but neglected to check the doorways which turned out to be way too narrow to get the sofa in. I'd never heard of the service of couch dis/re-assembly before until a friend mentioned it, and I was very wary of such a thing, especially for a brand new sofa. However it was my only option since it was a final sale. I called up Dr Sofa and spoke to a customer service rep who was very reassuring and helpful. She helped walk me through the process, and patiently worked with me when I had to reschedule a few times. I had to manage the couch delivery and the Dr Sofa guys arrival so that the couch didn't sit out on the sidewalk for too long, and the Dr Sofa people were very responsive. On the day of, two technicians showed up and were extremely polite and efficient. They worked on the couch on the sidewalk in the hot sun without complaint, then brought the couch up in pieces being very careful not to scuff or damage the sofa (without being prompted to do so). My sofa didn't fit in the apartment building- not the elevator or the stairs. As the absolute last resort, we called Max at Dr Sofa and enlisted their services. Max is a technician, a man that knows his craft. He had his team pick up the couch and bring it to their workshop to study the couch before they made any moves. After understanding the task at hand they got to work. In a 48 hour period, the couch was in our living room and looking as good as new. I called them because I was having trouble getting their website to upload my photos for a quote. I spoke to someone on the phone named Stephanie, who gave me her email and asked her to email photos to her. I did. I didn't receive any email back a couple days later, so I called again and asked her about it. She said she was confused about the job I wanted (my sofa reupholstered) and had sent out a quote for it to be disassembled. I repeated my email to her and said I had not received it. She said she would have to redo it anyway. Again, couple days later no quote so I left her a message and didn't hear back. Couple days after that I called again to the main line instead of Stephanie's extension and told them I had dealt with her but not heard from her and they passed me through to her VM and I never heard from her. If I could give them zero stars I would. I contacted them via email about repairing my sofa because it was sagging and the tone of the response was like this guy was doing me a favor. Right off the bat, I didn't get a good feeling but went ahead with it anyway. He asked for pics which I sent, even though I told him you would not be able to tell from the picture how bad the sagging was on the couch. He then proceeded to tell me that he couldn't give me any kind of estimate range and that he could send someone to give an in-house estimate but if I decided not to go with them I would have to pay a consultation fee. I tried to ask for some kind of range just to get a ballpark and he absolutely refused to give me a range even when I simply asked if he could even let me know if it would be under $1000, something, anything...nope. Total jerk. Every time he got back to me his attitude and response was more and more arrogant and brisk, again, like he was doing me a favor. Ultimately, it left such a bad taste in my mouth and was such bad customer service I didn't even have them come in for a consultation and estimate. I felt like it was a waste of my time. Recently had Z Brothers come in and such an opposite experience from beginning to end. I'd recommend staying away. read more

Like the last reviewer I almost never post reviews online unless there is some exceptional reason (good or bad) that prompts me to. My wife and I have had to rely on Dr Sofa twice now: once several years ago to get our sofa into our UES apartment and just recently to get it out. In both instances our experiences were exceptional. We bought a B&B Italia sectional sofa from someone second hand several years ago. It's a beautiful sofa that we bought for a steal and see ourselves keeping and maintaining for a very long time. Unfortunately when we bought it I didn't think to measure whether the longer piece would fit in our elevator or stairs. When the movers I had hired arrived in our building they couldn't fit it in either so they left it in the lobby much to the displeasure of the building staff. Unsure of what to do and frankly a bit panicked it was suggested that I call Dr Sofa; which I did and they had a crew that were in the neighborhood and showed up within the hour. The crew consisted of two guys who quickly ascertained that they didn't have the tools to cut the couch and would need to take it back to their shop if it was necessary to disassemble and reassemble. Before jumping to the conclusion that it needed to be disassembled however they said they'd try and get it up the stairwell (we lived on the second floor so it was one flight of stairs they needed to get it up). This is where the story turns exceptional and is in part what prompted me to write this review - these two guys spent 2.5 hours working the sectional piece up one flight of stairs. The sofa was made in Europe and is solid foam that encapsulates a fully metal frame with no wood or joints. It is incredibly heavy. The physical effort these guys put into getting that sofa piece up the stairs was ridiculous and at various points had me feeling guilty but grateful. The space was so tight that they were constantly twisting and turning and bearing the full weight of the piece at awkward angles to get it up. And in the end they got it up to our apartment. I tipped them a lot and while it wasn't cheap it was a lot cheaper than if they had to charge for disassembling and reassembling. As I mentioned earlier in this review I had to rely on Dr Sofa a second time - within the last week when we moved out. I knew the sofa was going to be a problem getting out given everything required to get it in and told the moving company as much (a large national moving company). They acknowledged the potential issue but were dismissive and said "if it was able to get in to your apartment then we can get it out". Sure enough, come moving day they couldn't even get it out of our front door let alone down the stairs. This time we were moving for work purposes so somebody other than me was picking up the tab and the moving company arranged to have Dr Sofa come to our apartment. Unfortunately the crew that came weren't able to have the same success getting it down. They certainly didn't try for as long. I don't know if the angles are different going down then going up but the end result was that they were able to disassemble the couch in our apartment (which involved removing the leather cover and using a saw to cut the piece in half horizontally straight through the hard foam and metal frame). Where the service from Dr Sofa was exceptional a second time around was that instead of reassembling the sofa in the warehouse the moving company was housing our stuff in while it was being loaded on to a truck that was going to deliver it out-of-state, Dr. Sofa agreed to come to our new home in Virginia and reassemble the sofa in our living room. Granted this isn't standard practice as I understand it but the owner of Dr. Sofa and one of his salesman were going to be in the area within a couple of days of when the movers were dropping everything off and they offered to do the reassembly there. This turned out to be a gift in disguise as the reassembled piece wouldn't have fit in our living room (we're in a townhouse and the stairs going up to the living room are too narrow). So this lengthy review is my way of saying thanks because Dr Sofa really went above and beyond during the two times we've used them. Thankfully they're setting up regional affiliates with one near us in VA as it would appear we're going to need them again when we leave this townhouse. read more

I JUST PAID HOW MUCH FOR THAT SOFA AND YOU WANT TO DO WHAT TO IT? That was me several weeks ago. I had just bought a beautiful sofa - 9 1/2 feet long - and live in a NYC apartment building. Already you're saying to yourselves, 'you are one crazy lady'. I know. Especially since the height of the elevator is only 7 1/2 feet. What to do? The first delivery attempt failed as a moving company tried to carry it up the stairs. Did not work. Finally the manufacturer of the couch said Dr. Sofa will take care of it. That was when I had the pleasure of speaking to Eli who calmed me down and explained the process. Still a doubting Thomas but had no choice to agree - which I did. The day Diego and Jose showed up to my apartment with my couch in three sections was shocking enough. Even more so was how it looked afterwards - a complete sofa that, when looking at it, you would never know was previously in three pieces. And Diego and Jose - AWESOME!!! Kind, sweet, warm, funny, and know their jobs. Yes they had to make 3 trips up 9 flights of stairs to bring all three pieces but when they were done - AMAZING! I am now a convert for sure. So if you want that 9 foot, 10 foot sofa but you're hesitant because it won't fit in your elevator, buy what you love and know Dr. Sofa is only a phonecall away. I found Dr. Sofa through a website called Apartment Therapy and it was recommended for reasonably priced upholstery jobs. Well, they were right on point because that is exactly what I experienced. I had a beloved desk chair reupholstered in a teal velvet fabric with aged silver studs. It was a lot of fun to work with Kim who I emailed back and forth with about the job. The chair was picked up from my residence along with the fabric I had purchased and then delivered once the job was done, within the date range I had requested. The chair looks wonderful and the customer service I received by email was prompt and detailed. I definitely recommend using Dr. Sofa as they make what some people might consider a hassle of a project (which is what I expected) the easiest thing ever! You can drop off furniture directly to their location in the Bronx, too, if you like. I don't own a car as I live in Manhattan so it was really great to have them pick up and deliver for me. I'm glad to change my original rating of 1 star to 5. The reason I am changing the rating is because at Dr. Sofa, Ralph and Kim phoned and email numerous times to make amends on the prior issue that I had with their service. Ralph turned my case over to Kim and Kim dispatched two Dr. Sofa surgeons to my home to take pictures of the sofa with legs that were no longer stable under the sofa because I had moved it around w/o handling it properly. The surgeons were so great, so professional, coming to my home before the scheduled time and handling everything with the greatest aplomb. I would recommend them w/o haste, and I'm glad to amend my review to let anyone reading the review know that Dr. Sofa cares about their customers which is refreshing. I never review anything, but these guys are true artists. They replaced a missing leg and a missing cushion on an antique couch and you could NOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE. If you have a cherished piece that you can't bear to replace but that needs major repairs, this is the place to go. read more

They did a great job including down to the smallest detail of stopping by our home for us to pick nail heads to attach the leather to the custom wood base. Would definitely use them again..... Last week I had a queen size sofa sleeper delivered to our apt. But I had miscalculated and it would not fit through the door to the room we wanted. I called Dr. Sofa and my experience was nothing but top notch. They were professional and very courteous.Kim, the sales consultant made all arrangements over the phone and confirmed costs with an email. Then I needed to move the appt a day earlier and while there were no openings, Melissa, the scheduler, worked really hard and was able to shift the day. The day of the appt, the guys came right on time ( a first!) and were able to assess the issue and fix everything within 30 minutes without any damage to the couch. I had gotten an estimate for getting my two arm chairs an upgrade from the grimy, probably 50 year old original finish in 2014. Recently contacted them again with the hopes that things wouldn't have changed too much. Was informed that pick up and delivery charges had gone up, but they kept the original estimate for the repair work. Had a little snafu regarding the pick up date, and they charged the card I used as the "holder" even though I had been planning to use a different payment method. This is the reason for four stars. The work that has been done on my chairs is definitely 5 star work. I am very happy with the result and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to have furniture work done. read more

Extremely unprofessional and their work will NOT leave your couch looking as good as it looked when you first bought it. For one days work they had to come a total of 5 times, a couple times showing up without the proper tools and equipment which is not a small thing when you're waiting around during a window block of time during the work week. The management that was supposed to follow up with me on different occasions didn't. I spent quite a bit of time on email and the phone trying to sort things out. There was even a time they never showed up when we were supposed to be on the schedule. The workers also kept showing up to our billing address, which doesn't make sense at all because that address was only given for the credit card information. If you call I suggest not to work with Max, ask to speak to someone else. Jose and Franklin (as a team) did a great job on fixing the couch's bulging issues (the result of Jackson's and a few others' poor work over more than one visit from dr sofa). They were the only positive experience with dr sofa and they also commented on how poorly the couch was put together by their team members. Ralph was nice (began working with us after Max was taken off our job bc of the multiple mishaps) but the discount offered to us (after I had to ask for one) was insulting. They will not receive our service again. I wish we listened to our gut and went with the Couch Doctor. Lesson learned. read more
