Now that its been a month since my project ended, here are my thoughts-- TL;DR they're solid folks to work with. For some context, I have personally project managed my own smaller projects before this in the same home by contracting directly. In the last 1.5 years, I've replaced flooring throughout, closed up some extra doors, new roof, replaced a door with a window, full paint throughout the house, installed a new bathroom vanity, a couple of DIYs, etc. It was a *LOT* of work to do this; but I was fortunate to have a flexible work schedule at the time in order to oversee my project in this way and I was onsite daily, often working in the backyard on my laptop. For this most recent project, I knew I needed professional support to do a 'like for like' bathroom remodel and a half bathroom remodel to pull out an old shower shell and replace with tiling with updated fixtures and electrical. The crew also replaced 5 interior doors in the home including a garage door. Home remodels are tough; most of us homeowners have high expectations which makes sense given that we're spending large sums of money to do a project and then we also live in the house afterwards... we tend to fixate on the smallest details. Is everything perfect? No. But is hiring a professional contractor worth it in certain cases? Yes. I can attest since I've gone both routes now in the last 1.5 years re-working a very worn 1980's home into something that feels fresh. Of the 4 companies I met with, QA builders came in with the best quote and fairness. I was not "mansplained", I was given a fair quote from the first interaction, follow ups actually happened after the first meeting, and our PM Josh was helpful, respectful, communicative, and informative throughout. I rarely felt I had to 'chase' Josh down for next steps. That's HUGE A big plus of working with a contractor is they can help you deliver materials to home for staging such as tiles, plumbing fixtures, bath fixture, etc. Since I don't have a truck, this really came in handy. Additionally, it's a second pair of eyes to help you follow up on random missing parts that are needed and also a human to help advise on small but necessary questions like how many pieces of metal edging for the bathroom would be necessary. Josh was our main point to everything, and honestly, feels like I really paid for his partnership more than anything else. He took a big burden off my plate by organizing the teams, permits, stages of work, etc. We also had some unexpected changes; the main contractor (not Sal) worked on our project for two days before swapping out with an associate. First day was bumpy as things were moving quickly and due to some miscommunications between me, my partner, and the person working the shower head. I came home from work and was upset to discover the shower head was not installed at the right height. The team also began demo in bathroom we had *not* planned for so it was not so fun to discover my belongings covered in demo dust while the other bathroom was completely cleared out for demo. Given it was the first day of the project it made me worried for what would follow, but Josh and the contractor resolved the height issue after I asked for the change without hassle. I threw out my toothbrush, packed out my other bathroom items, and moved on. Rupture and repair means everything, and the team handled the rupture. :) Day to day - language was a bit tricky sometimes; thankfully I shared the same language as some of the workers which helped a lot, but there were also some moments where things were unclear. Workers were a bit of a revolving door; generally we had one "tile person", one electrician who also did other projects, and one generalist who helped with our doors and random paint projects and some other folks who stopped by for certain parts. I found out that it was helpful for me to be home every day during the project during the morning at least, to field all of the questions before heading off to work. It probably would have delayed the project if this were not the case. Although we had people in and out of the home for 4.5 weeks of the project daily (and sometimes on Saturdays), my indoor cat was never endangered or escaped. I'm thankful that one of the workers always made sure she was safely tucked away before beginning their work for the day. A random but annoying thing that ended up happening - because we left the front door open during the day of the project, we ended up having swarms of flies persisting in our home. :( Tip - I discovered that the 10% of tile overage I purchased was not enough two times; I had to go out and buy more, which was fine for some parts but then also rough for another because the tile ended up being backordered for days which halted the project. Consider buying way more because even when I bought more tile we barely had enough to finish or making strategic purchases where vendors have enough supply on hand during your project. read more

Sal is the CEO and also our PM for our bathroom remodeling project. I talked to 3 contractors and finally decided on them. On the first consultation visit, Sal came in totally hands on. He pulled out his measuring tape and started to show me what he noticed on the dimensions and how everything works when they are rebuilt, such as how the floor will be connected between tiles in the bathroom to the wood floor in the hallway. His attention to details and the down to earth style won our decision. We spent 3 weeks on the master bathroom, passed inspections, then due to the contractor lead's personal business, we took a 2 weeks break, and then resumed remodeling for the guest bathroom for another 3 weeks. Inspections were all scheduled ahead of time and each time was passed with ease. Things were setup step by step and Sal was very on top of any issues as we had a Whatsapp group to discuss issues instantaneously. Sal referred us to a few of his connected shops for discounted price products but we are also free to shop around and find our own supplier. Price negotiation was straight forward and anything deviated from the plan was discussed. For things we had no clue, Sal gave us his suggestions and it was useful. We recently renovated our master bathroom's shower booth, which was leaking and caused water damage downstairs, with QA Builder. Poli and the team helped and managed the whole process (quote, material selections and shopping, city permit and actual construction works) and it has been wonderful to work with them. Quote We specifically looked for general contractors who are willing to renovate shower booth, not the entire bathroom. Many of the general contractors that we contacted simply didn't want to do only the shower booth. Out of a few general contractors that we were able to find, the quote from QA builder was around the middle. Poli came over to our house and gave great practical recommendations and explanations about the whole process, making us select QA builder over other contractors. Material Selections Shower renovation was a complex process and overwhelming for home owners, as there were many steps and materials to choose. There are so many different types of tiles and shower components--which one should I choose and where should I buy? Poli brought me to a couple of stores, where I can talk to their sales representatives and select the materials. There was no pressure to purchase from these specific stores and I am not very used to offline shopping, but I found that this was actually most effective way to buy materials. Communication During the actual construction period, Poli brought specialists (e.g. tiling team) when needed or worked on the tasks himself with other crews. We found communication with him very easy, as we just needed to meet him at house or text him. Josh and the QA Builders team were exceptional! Now here's how it went. What I wanted to do was not the normal project as I wanted to convert an existing office to a cool/hip "speakeasy" bar (w/ hidden door) as well as converting my existing tiny bar into a room. I had a designer draw up a really cool design. Then I went to get bids for the job, which included QA Builders. Out of all the bids I felt most confident with Josh as well as their reasonably priced bid. I actually chose QA Builders over a builder that I used before who I thought I would be going with. After meeting with multiple contractors, we hired QA Builders to bring our architect's drawings (two bedrooms and a half bath) for our home addition to life. From an operational and tactical perspective the team was spectacular, delivering everything they promised and more. Execution and attention to detail was better than we could have imagined. Communication throughout the project was timely, informative, knowledgeable and personable. Sal helped us coordinate selection and purchase of all our finishes, as well as weighing with recommendations when needed. We have heard plenty of horror stories of home renovations that have gone wrong--contractors disappearing before completion, sub par quality, prices skyrocketing, projects taking exponentially longer than planned--just nightmares. We were fortunate to have the complete opposite--working with Sal, Poli & the crew at Aldren Construction was a blissful dream. They finished in under the projected timeline even when we increased the scope of work. While most would have moved out during such a big remodel, we lived and WFH throughout. The result is better than we could have hoped--only 475 square feet, but a complete transformation. I have to note that Whenever I was confused about what to select (it may be the tiles or plumbing fixtures or something else), Sal stepped in and made a gentle suggestions to help me decide better. At the same time, if I did like something very much and if I could sense that he was not a big fan of my selection, Sal kept his opinion to himslef and never pressured me to change my mind. I really appreciate that quality in Sal Actual work - My family moved to a rental place for a few weeks since we were going to work on all three bathrooms. Sal promised to get two of the bathrooms ready within 4-6 weeks and he did. Sal's employees were courteous, friendly and helpful. When the team started demolishing, we realized that we couldnt proceed with certain plans as we hoped in the beginning. Sal and his team always came up with an alternate solution to make it work without compromising on the qulaity. I really respect Sal and his entire crew for respecting our property. They covered all the wall/cabinets at our place with plastic and floors, with thick construction paper while working. when most of the work was finished, they cleared all the coverings and since then they have been taking their shoes off(or they wore shoe covers) to enter our home for any remaining work to keep our floors clean. Sal's Team - I especially have to thank them for when my whole family was down with Covid and how well they treated us. They constantly checked up on us and inquired if we needed any help. We had all of our meetings on facetime since I couldnt meet them in-person. Basically, I knew exactly what was going on with our project all the time. I have to give a special shout-out to Poli (Sal's assistant). I have probably never met a person who is as efficient as Poli. Poli made sure all the materials were picked up, sorted and were in place for the project. If I wanted to communicate something to the team or Sal, all I needed to do was let Poli know and every message was conveyed immediately. Sal definitely trained Poli well! When things go wrong - This is when you know if you have made the right call. I dont think any project will run smoothly without some hiccups at the very least. Our proejct was not any different. The window we orderd didnt come on time. There was a time when the city inspector wanted them to fix an electrical issue which was unrelated to their work. We had a few of such issues and Sal, like a true professional just kept the work going until it was done. Even when his work truck was broken into, I didnt see Sal complaining. His first response was to alert me to double check if he had any of my checks on his truck that might have got stolen. All in all, it was a beautiful experience! Conclusion - We have three beautifully remodelled bathrooms and every other work was completd as promised. I would definietely hire Sal again for our future projects. I am so impressed with Sal, Jesse, and everyone at QA Builders. I had them remodel my kitchen, and they were a delight to work with. We have had a lot of work done in our house, and QA Builders has been the best and easiest to work with by far. Sal is very responsive, honest, and super friendly. The work was high quality, and he gave us suggestions when needed. He provides a quote for all the rough materials & building, and then we buy all the finish materials. However, he walks with you through getting all the finish materials (cabinets, counters, backsplash, etc.) and even has discounts at some stores. We even went out of town for a while when they were working on the kitchen, and Sal gave updates, and made sure we were informed with what was happening. I was able to trust the team to do good work even when I was away. They did our kitchen (new cabinets & counters but same layout), our downstairs bathroom, and an area that was a wet bar, but now is just cabinets. All areas are now lovely! Jesse was our team lead, and he is great. He knows what he's doing, and communicates well, and let us know everything that was going on. I had two bathrooms remodeled, kitchen cabinets refaced, flooring changed from carpet and linoleum to wood, repaired and painted wall-papered walls, and the whole house re-piped. Would recommend! Sal and his team from QA Builders worked on a small remodeling project in our house replacing all the doors and door frames. We are very happy with the result! Everything was done quickly and on time and communication with Sal has been great. He helped us pick and buy all the materials, answered questions and always kept his word. We first met Sal, the owner of QA builders, back in 2018 when he was working for another company as a project manager. It was so great working with him that when we decided to do a home addition in 2024, we knew we wanted him. We had to do a bit of googling this time to find him, but we did, and found that he now has his own company. I'm so glad we did. He was really a partner the whole way through. Any time any little thing came up, he just said "I'm on it" and quickly took care of it. We decided to stay living in the house, with our 3 year old and our dog, throughout the whole project, which made that sort of responsiveness and understanding so much more important. We recently completed renovations on master & guest showers, sub-floor reinforcement and leveling of our entire townhouse, painting of ceiling and walls, and installed a solution for covering our washer and dryer cubby. We are so happy with how the entire project turned out and that QA Builders were able to finish the project based on their original completion time frame. We found Josh and Poli of QA Builders to be very easy to work with. They listened to what we were looking for in a project, gave us a reasonable bid, and then guided us through the material selection process. We appreciated their advice and their ability to understand our needs. The Quartz slab showers the team installed look fabulous! Going into the project we were concerned because we were not living in CA. We weren't sure how easily or promptly we would be informed of progress or issues with the project. Josh (our main Project Manager) promised us that he would provide feedback to include phone calls, video calls, texts, pictures and video of the project. Once the project started we were so happy with the constant communication that we had. We want to remodel our bathroom showers which have been used for over 20 years. After consulting with multiple builders, they either give us a price way over our budget or refuse to take the project because it is relatively small-scale and not a "full" bathroom remodeling. He is very professional, knowledgeable, and passionate, and able to give us a very reasonable quote and explain the whole process in detail with us. QA Builders remodeled a bathroom that was in dire need of repair. They handled everything from tiles, lighting, plumbing. They installed a tub, vanity, and other finished materials that I got to choose (I got most of my materials from Home Depot). While picking out finished materials, Sal provided me with real-time feedback over text providing the pros and cons of different items I was considering. Jesse and Federico managed the daily onsite operations and were able to field inquiries from neighbors in the condo complex, pick up large items up from Home Depot, coordinate with the city inspectors during the holiday time period when it was tricky to schedule-- they went above and beyond to get the project complete and were able to answer all of my questions along the way. I will preface this review to be transparent that while I did not ultimately choose to do my bathroom remodel with QA Builders, I do want to spotlight the positive impression that Sal gave when he came over to provide an estimate and the follow up that occurred afterwards. Sal was easy to get a hold of over the phone when I called to inquire about arranging for a free consultation. We set up a day/time to meet at the property and he was right on time. Not late or flaky at all! He took an hour to go through the bathroom as I explained all the changes that I wanted to make, to answer any questions that I had regarding the process, to offer suggestions about executing the remodel, ask his own questions, and finally gave me a conservative figure in terms of cost and timeframe. He came prepared with copies of the GC license, worker's comp, bond/insurance along with the estimate right on the spot. The rough estimate for a full demo and rebuild of the 8' x 5' bathroom was within the $16-18k range. He would cover labor and building materials and I'd cover all the finish materials. He also offered his contractor prices for finishes (i.e. tiles from Bedrosian Tile & Stone). He was understanding when I mentioned that I would do my due diligence (always get at least 3 estimates!!) and encouraged me to reach out to him if/when I decided to use his services. He made sure to do periodic weekly follow ups afterwards. When I gave him the news that I decided to go with another GC, he was very gracious and positive. Some folks might have ghosted or reacted poorly but Sal was very nice about it. My experience with Sal has been so good that it prompted me to write this review solely based on this experience, and while I feel badly I couldn't give him my business, I can share my experience with him so others can give QA Builders consideration for their home building/renovating needs. read more
