I had heard from an aquantince that this place was really good so I decided to check it out. I feel that the place is a little small and I had to sit at a table that was right next to the entrance. I felt the service was quick and friendly and I got my food quickly as well. The portion sizes are huge, which is great. I was able to take leftovers. It seemed as if my chicken tagine was really watery, but it was my first time getting that dish so I'm not sure if that's normal. Restaurant being (what seemed like) "in the back" of a strip mall threw me off a little while trying to find it; but it was worth the find. Very quiet atmosphere, seat yourself, order on an iPad at the table (or the server can order for you as well if you have any questions). Server was very polite, knowledgeable and patient. Tried the Gyro sandwich, with tabbouleh and hummus. Tabbouleh stole the show, finely diced cucumbers, onion, tomato and quinoa, very delicious, flavorful. We were in Los Alamos recently for a wedding. We arrived mid-afternoon, hours before the wedding, so we pulled over to look for a place to eat. I got out my Yelp app, did a search and found Pyramid Cafe. We were outside of the parking lot where they are located. So, we pulled in and had a late lunch. WOW, what a fantastic find!!! We like Mediterranean cuisine, so this was perfect. I had a Gyro Sandwich to which I added hummus. We also got Chicken Tagine with a side of lamb stew. Also, a side Greek salad with grilled chicken. And we also got the Mediterranean Lemonade, which I highly recommend. All the dishes were unbelievably delicious! Pyramid Cafe is a fantastic find! This is small, so don't plan to go there if you've got a large crowd. Also, note that there's only one bathroom - like I said, it's small. I'd say this place is something the locals know about and frequent. It is a place I'll return to the next time I'm in Los Alamos! read more

Ok - I was really eager for some lamb, Baba, hummus, ... Mediterranean cuisine. Food was good, acceptable and location was convenient. Portions were large and their fries were terrific! I'd rather have airplane visa miles but I try to pay in cash to help small restaurants during Covid. Just as another reviewer posted "do you want your change?" he asked. I was surprised and annoyed. I said, " yes, I do." Then I asked for change for a $5 bill, and tipped him 20% for take out ... no thank-you or acknowledgement at all from him. Imagine my displeasure when I arrive to a spot in the park (after a long walk) and sit down to eat. No utensils, no napkins - Great! Thanks buddy! I like it best, when people take pride and do their best. If it's slow, make sure everything is just perfect for a guest who's going out if their way to support you. Not a half-a**ed effort. This 3 star rating is because I would call one element 1 star, 2 elements 3 stars, and one element 5 stars. 1 star: The falafel plate was genuinely horrible: the falafel tasted nothing like falafel, and was a gooey, seemingly wheat-based mess. The dolmades that came with it tasted ostensibly chemical-esque and the hummus seemed nearly carbonated. 3 stars: 1. The service was fine. It was prompt and friendly, but you order from a tablet at your table, which is something for which I don't particularly care. 2. The chicken kebab plate was pretty good. The chicken was juicy but the rice had a mysterious goo underneath it. 5 stars: The moussaka was excellent. It is a vegetarian option, and the eggplants were well cooked in a good tomato sauce with wonderfully melted cheese. Overall, 3 stars. TL;DR don't get the falafel plate. Food is extremely hit and miss. Also a bit pricey for what you get, e ven something as simple as gyros.

We searched high and low for a restaurant that would be like home fresh cooked meal for dinner. The outside didn't look like much however I like Greek food snd thought we'd try it. Pleasantly surprised the waiter was kind and friendly helpful. The food was amazingly delicious with presentation beautifully done. We were so happy and could not believe the portions were generous. My new favorite (non-Mexican) restaurant in town. So so good. We came to have a beer and dinner on a Thursday night. The place was pretty dead (not unusual for Los alamos) and there were only two servers. We got the hummus appetizer with Pita, falafel side, combo plate with chicken that came with rice and salad, gyro with lamb and fries. All of the food was so good. I loved my gyro. Probably one of the best I have had and the fries are the best in town. The falafel had great flavor and the salad had the perfect amount of dressing. The rice was also flavored perfect and pita wasn't dry, which happens a lot. I don't have a single complaint about the food for this visit. The only bad thing was we ordered a beer the $4 IPA and it tasted bad so we asked for the $6 one instead, which was much better. the service was good, but I think one more server there would have been better. I placed a takeout order online which was convenient, but some of the menu items didn't have a description. The order was ready in 15 minutes and when I called to let them know I was here for curbside delivery, they didn't answer the phone. After replying to the automated text message that I was here, my order was brought out a few minutes later with no silverware or napkins included. The lentil soup was okay, but not something I would order again. The pita bread that came with it was crumpled up inside of a piece of foil. The Greek salad was good. I also enjoyed the gyro and fries, but the chicken Alfredo was needing more sauce and I felt it was way overpriced at $18.50. read more

We were so happy to find this place on a spur of the moment trip to Los Alamos! Solid 3 1/2 stars. Hummus was well above average, and the pita was good too. Personally I might have liked it in larger pieces. Falafel came out as patties rather than balls. Perfectly cooked. Tabouli salad was tasty but lacked requisite parsley. OMG, they should be ashamed to call themselves Arab! The so-called kabob ( a "Gyro" kabob was a poor non-kabob and more like an American meatloaf cube placed on a skewer with no flavor and no real meat quality, not worthy of being called a Gyro, let alone a kabob!. Also, I must say the lamb shank, which should be meat that falls away from the bone (With Flavor!), was high priced and not at all good, and even the so-called "Greek salad" was the same, bland, thrown together and miskeen! Good restaurants are hard to find in Los Alamos. They have been on of the top restaunants in town for many years. This isn't normally a place that my husband would enjoy. When we saw it on Yelp we thought it was your standard Greek Diner, however, we found out it was a Mediterranean restaurant with Greek and Northern African food. We started with warm pita and Greek salad. Some Greek salads are overly tart. This one was perfect. Sliding the pits through the leftover feta and dressing was delightful. I had the chicken tangine. My husband had a beef dish. Normally I don't order chicken out because I find it to be dry. This chicken stew was fabulous. I would get a spoon and dip the rice into the liquid in the meal. The flavors were just melodious. My husband's beef dish was like an eggplant lasagna with beef. Tasty. Great meal, good service. read more

The Pyramid Cafe is genuine and some of the best food I have had this year. I want to keep going back to try different dishes. The problem is I live in Taos and it's over an hour away. I had the greek salad with lamb. The lamb was so very flavorful and cooked to perfection. The cucumber dressing was very good and perfect for anything including pita bread which they included with the meal. My friend had the gyro kababs and they were also very good. When we return to Los Alamos we will for sure try this place again. We also shared the baklava and it was superb. Even the service was good and very friendly. read more

The service was great, good was great, the waitress was accommodating and the waiter was a hottie, fun to chat with and yes I was flirting. Food is decent I've only had the gyro a few times once I ordered a chicken gyro and got beef. I didnt want to wait for another gyro to be made and just stuck with the beef/lamb. The fries in the restaurant are more crispier than takeout although the service can be slow even when no one else is there inside. While waiting we ordered and appetizer of hummus and baba ganouj that came with pita. The baba ganouj was a bit salty but the hummus was delicious. I've also had the side salad which had olives with pit seeds beware of biting down on one like I did could crack a tooth. I've had better Greek salads at other places so I'll opt for fries next time. I'm glad Pyramid Café is back. The food is amazing! That being said I do not like the new set up. For those you haven't been there yet; you are seated and than order on a kiosk system. In theory this seems like a good system but in reality it simply does not work. There is no incentive for the wait staff to check on your table. They drop off your food and you are basically on your own. Not one waiter came by to check on us the entire time. There was no refill on drinks or anyone to see if our food was to our satisfaction. There was definitely an heir of frustration from all the guests in the restaurant at trying and failing to get the attention of the waitstaff. For example, my family and I waited almost forty minutes to have a simple order corrected; and this was only after flagging down three different waitstaff members; all of which seemed annoyed by us making a request. New location and the food was definitely not what was served at the old location. Schwarma meat was dried over cooked and tough carne asada meat. Taziki sauce was green with zero cucumber in it. Taboule tasted like undercooked couscous and was old. Cucumber was mushy and grainy. wish I had read the reviews on the new location before we went to lunch. Was not impressed at all and don't plan to be back. Instead of investing in table top order kiosks should have spent the money training staff how to cook. read more

I have to give this restaurant credit because for being in THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE New Mexico... They do gyro pretty well, in fact, my father THE FOOD SNOB (it's where I get my snobbery from) mentioned the gyro at least 3 or 4 times later in the day... Then again he and I are always talking food so, maybe this really isn't anything special? Ha! I did in fact taste the gyro meat though, and my tastebuds were certainly captivated... I also heard through the chews, that the French Fries (hmmm not exactly Greek!) were tasty too. So why the 3 stars? That's because, what I ordered: the Chicken Kabob Plate, was DRYER THAN CLOTHES THAT COME OUT OF THE DRYER. And I asked for no rice, but it's like they gave me extra. I was also a bit bummed that my meal didn't come with any hummus! In order to choke this chicken down (he he) some LUBRICATION is in order and hummus would have been the best option. If I ate conventionally raised red meats like the beef/lamb gyro meat, I totally would have ordered a gyro salad- alas I did not, thus I was stuck CHOKING THE CHICKEN! My husband and I are relocating to the area and were looking for something to eat on a Sunday. Very few places seem to be open, but thankfully, Pyramid was open! We walked in and were immediately overwhelmed by a sense of peace! The atmosphere was calm, serene and welcoming. We took a moment to figure out what we wanted and were served our soups first; he had the avcolimono and I had the lentil soup. Both were amazing, but the flavor in the avcolimono was astounding. Thankfully, the pita slices were warm and soft and welcoming. For lunch, he had the beef gyro with fries and, honestly, neither of us could get past the freshness of those fries. Hand-cut, in-house fries. The potato flavor was remarkable! I ordered the moussaka (which I'd never had before) and was absolutely blown away by the flavor combinations. The local beef in the dish was extremely flavorful. Being a potato fanatic, I was giddy at the thick slices of potato in the dish. The cheeses included were delightful and the sauce that topped it all off was absolutely stunning. It went very well with the pomegranate tea (which was the best I've ever had). We couldn't finish our lunches due to how full we were, but we took them home and, let me tell you, it is a good sign when a dish reheats well. These dishes are still absolutely amazing, even reheated. We will be back, Pyramid, and we will always remember our absolutely lovely first date in Los Alamos because of you. read more

I had lunch there shortly after it opened. They were going to put me in a seat directly in the sun, I chose to sit at a different table. I looked at the menu and when the waiter came to get my order I told him I what I wanted for lunch with water to drink and the ketchup bottle need to be replaced because it was empty. After some time he brought me my order. There was no water to drink and he did not replace the ketchup bottle. I figured I would just wait for him to check in on me to request some water. He never checked in on me. I finished my lunch and paid the bill at the register. I was going to ask to speak to the manager but by that time it was getting overcrowded. I called back later and asked to speak with the manger. As I was explaining what had happened the manager hung up on me. I tried to call back and he would not come to the phone. read more

My group and I came here after the new Thai restaurant next door gave us a wait time of an hour and a half, much like many others, so the inside of pyramid cafe was quite lively, with plenty of servers to keep up with the demand. I decided to get the kabob sandwich for $11, and fearing that wouldn't be enough got an extra side of falafel for $3. The sandwich was delicious, with the sauce on the side adding a burst of flavor to the already juicy pita sandwich. The falafel was pretty good as well, not the best falafel I've had but not bad at all. Also, the sandwich came with fries that tasted distinctly homemade. At the end of my meal I cleaned off my plate and was just full enough. I returned to Pyramid Cafe a week later when a friend of mine treated me out to dinner. He recommended that I get the Lamb Shank, which was $24 - normally this would be out of my price range but hey, he insisted. The lamb shank came on a sizzling skillet and was topped with tomatoes and veggies, with a side of seasoned rice. The lamb meat was as tender as it gets, and fell right off the bone when biting in. I don't know how they did it, but all of the meat - from right outside the bone to the very outside of the shank was bursting with flavor. The rice was also delicious, and complemented the lamb meat nicely. Both of my meals here were great, and was a pleasant surprise given the barren cuisine offerings of Los Alamos. My only complaint is that the price is a tad expensive, but the quality was undeniable. Definitely will come back again. read more

My husband and I chose Pyramid Cafe for lunch during our one day visit to Los Alamos based on its having very good Yelp ratings. Unfortunately I think this may just be an artifact of having few choices in town because while it wasn't terrible, it wasn't great either. For full disclosure, we live in a city with a plethora of high quality mediterranean establishments, so our standards are very high. The best items we sampled were the lamb shwarma sandwich and the hummus. They do use a very good pita bread for the sandwich and the lamb was tasty. They don't serve it with garlic sauce or tahini which I am used to seeing shwarma served with but that could be because it is lamb rather than the usual chicken & beef. If you're going to eat here I recommend those items. I do not however recommend the dolmas at all. My first dolma was ok flavorwise but had a very odd texture to the rice that is hard to explain or diagnose, but once I bit into the second one I knew the reason for it. The rest of the dolmas on my plate were half frozen. (Meaning, half the dolma was frozen and half had thawed). The freezing process destroyed the rice. Plus, it was unpleasant biting into chunks of ice. This is highly uncool. If the dolmas were frozen it means one of two things a) they were not made onsite or b) they were made onsite and then frozen. Honestly I am not sure which is the case since they were only mediocre in flavor anyway. Prices were very high compared to what I'm used to paying for Mediterranean, I am not sure if that's just this restaurant or because it's in Los Alamos though and it costs more to ship food in. Service was ok, nothing special, nothing horrible. All in all, since we haven't eaten anywhere else in Los Alamos we really can't comment on whether this is the best the town has to offer like some say in their reviews. I suspect they have some other menu items that are probably just fine but stay away from the dolmas, if I hadn't ordered those I would have considered this a 3.5* but with that it's really more of a 2.75-3*. read more

We took friends out to Bandelier National Monument and decided to go back through Los Alamos since we were hungry. We ended up at Pyramid Cafe. Their menus is reasonably large and we all pretty quickly found food that piqued our fancy. The service was speedy and our food arrived soon. Unfortunately, the food was "meh". Not bad but also nothing to write home about. My gyro meat was chewy (and I am not sure they gave me the right thing) and our friends' food had a good sauce but overcooked chicken. The flavors were there, but nothing really stood out. We also ordered some baklava to go and was sorely disappointed. It had very little texture and was overpowered by cinnamon. I am not sure what else is around there, but I think I would branch out next time I am in Los Alamos read more
