Best time to go is for the lunch buffet. Menu and dinner prices are a bit high. In the past I've ordered egg rolls to go with my dinner plate and it costed $30. The portions to go are not very big and good is mediocre. I learned my leason now and never order off the menu again.

3.6/5 stars Appetizers 4.5 Entrees 3 Service 4 Ambiance 3 We were in Los Alamos on Labor Day and chose our restaurant based on which ones were open. China Palace is in a shopping center with a few other restaurants and we felt it was our best option. The rating was a bit low which was scary and I couldn't pull up the reviews (phone issue with a program I use) but in we went anyway. The place was empty but it was a bit early for lunch and a national holiday so I didn't let that deter me. We were taken to a comfy booth and given menus. They did have others come in to eat as we were eating. They had a good sized menu with many interesting selections which would be perfect for dinner or for leftovers. They, also, have a lunch menu with interesting selections that we don't normally get. Most had the hot pepper sign next to it but they said they could make it mild for my husband. He ordered the shrimp in hot garlic sauce and I had the ginger beef. The entrees came with soup-egg drop (hubs) or hot and sour (me), egg roll and fried rice. The soup came and, both, were amazing! Hubs loved the egg drop which had plenty of flavor and the hot and sour was, both, hot and sour (most are too mild for me) with enough goodies in it. Then the appetizers came with the egg roll and a freshly made fried wonton. Most appetizer egg rolls turn to mush, as if we're frozen, when bitten but these had fresh veggies. And the wonton was light and airy and heavenly. They gave small dishes with delicious hot mustard and a tasty dipping sauce that was pale in color as opposed to the scary neon red that some places serve. I was very impressed. Then, the appetizers came. My husband liked the shrimp in hot garlic sauce. The shrimps were firm and had a good flavor and the sauce was perfect for him. The ginger beef had little ginger flavor and was ok. It had little heat as well. I wouldn't get that again but would try their noodle dishes. I would try the China Palace if we were in the area again. Service was good and it was very clean. It holds real promise.

A great buffet. It's not huge but it's very good. Hard working folks that kept the buffet full and fresh on a busy day.

Had the lunch buffet here recently. Not bad, but a bit small selection. Would probably frequent this place more if I lived in Los Alamos.

The curry beef undercooked. The food was very bland. Was charged for water; had to correct our bills.

Lunch buffet choice only. Small selection, OK taste and a little pricey. Busy during lunch. It worked for us as visitors.

The best Chinese in Los Alamos. Not good compared to San Francisco, but not bad for the middle of nowhere.

I really like the sweet and sour chicken here. The service is meh and the fried rice is better elsewhere.

There's no variety offering and even if you want an egg roll you have to buy 4. The restrictions are disappointing. The dining area is kind of crappy. You sit at these wooden desks and chairs like at school. There's little to nothing on the walls and the only sound you here is banter from the kitchen. Here's a tip Yuan, add some music for the background maybe some Asian inspired instrumental music would help with the lack of decor. The service is okay, it's a small family business, Dad and Daughter. They were very nice. The kitchen guys running food to tables is a bit weird. I got pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings and they were okay, I wanted to try the bao and egg roll but since you can only get a family sized portion being 1 diner here doesn't allow you to try a variety without having tons of leftovers. The Bibimbap was also okay yet the portion looks small it's enough to fill the belly. My observation is this place is good if you go with a group so you can split the dumplings and other items and have a fun Asian experience. I suggest to owner spruce up the dining room perhaps offer a variety plate of appetizers and maybe add a coupe more entrees. Edible but uninspiring.

I did not know that they have a buffet and had we dined in I would have loved to try it! I believe this place has changed ownership since I had last been here as hispanics owned it prior and it looked different from what I remember. One of the owners whom took my order seemed to not understand much english (which is total fine) and ended up punching in cashew chicken instead of kung pao chicken; however, my order was still correct. We were offered a table while we waited (we were standing) which was very nice as they were very busy and had a full house. Now to the good part...the food! I ordered crab rangoons and kung pao chicken with steamed rice, the broccoli beef for my mom, and bff ordered the pork fried rice and the wonton soup. Everything was decent, but not outstanding and could use more flavor. The kung pao chicken was not spicy at all. I had a piece of mom's broccoli and it that was very tasty. Prices were very reasonable as for all three entrees as well as the app and soup came to 45 bucks. I would definitely like to try their buffet if I return next visit.

I had the excellent tofu and vegetables with hand-pulled wheat noodles - a little spicy and super flavorful. My husband, who has recently developed a gluten sensitivity, had pork and veggies with rice noodles. The flavors were similar to mine, but I'm guessing they use tamari instead of soy sauce. That was a a long drive for me and the unfortunate part. The fortunate part, this place was uber-fantabulous. OMG, the food was awesome. Let me get into why the experience was so great. The thing that grabs your attention when you walk in to the restaurant, is the mechanical bowl of noodle soup that has plastic noodles attached to a chopstick that moves up and down. Cool, right? I was greeted by the friendly staff and immediately taken to a table. Menu in hand, and a glass of water, I perused the menu. Man, there were so many yummy things to choose from. I decided on an order of shrimp, eggs ,and chives steamed dumplings for an appetizer and Singapore House fried rice noodle. I love Chinese chives so the dumplings were so yummy. They were steamed to perfection and so, so addicting. The Singapore noodles were wok-fired with chicken, shrimp, calamari, mushrooms, beef, eggs, and cucumbers. Wow, this dish attacked my taste buds with so much deliciousness. The staff were awesome, prices were reasonable, and most importantly, the food was spectacular. You have to get the dumplings. If my travels bring me back to the Santa Fe area, you know that I will come back to this restaurant.

I went again today for a late lunch and enjoyed some aspects of the meal. For one, it was just me and two other tables who closed out right when I was walking in. I was quickly sat, and proceeded to have pretty slow service to start. Once a server finally came back around 5 minutes later, he brought some delicious spicy/sweet peanuts to start. Returned less than a minute later to take my order, then proceeded to have great service afterward.. let me start with the spicy baby cucumbers: pretty tasty and a large serving, however I didn't think they were that spicy. The chile oil used is mostly oily with some not so spicy Chiles used (that could just be my heat tolerance) but nonetheless, they were delicious. The hot tea was fresh and he brought it out with water, which I appreciated.. I was however slightly disappointed in the Dan Dan Noodles, I didn't take a picture just because it honestly was served not too appetizing or picture perfect like most of the previous reviews. Everything was mixed together, and the meat was all in the bottom under all of the noodles. The flavor was pretty good, but I didn't get the normal Szechuan flavor or spiciness that I've had in the past at other places. I do love the fresh noodles, but the overall dish was a little underwhelming. I would have liked it to be a little more presentable, along with more of a noteworthy flavor other than meaty broth with some chile oil (again more on the oily side not so much spice). Overall, the experience was decent and good service. I will come back to try something else and maybe it just wasn't a dish for me.
