I normally can't be bothered to write reviews but decided to write one for this place bc I would have passed up this place based on # of reviews if my husb had not chosen this. Once he did, I ordered based on other reviews I read and they're spot on, the sashimi was surprising quality and better than I expected, even given the reviews I had read before ordering. Honestly I would expect it to be pricier given how difficult it must be to import ingredients to this place. The agedashi tofu was done well, the thin skin was crispy and well fried, the sauce it came in light but not lacking in flavor. We also got a bento box and it was quite traditional with the ginger dressing for the salad, I've missed the flavor more than I knew. I don't care for California rolls so have nothing to say about that. The chicken katsu was well made and the katsu sauce was good. The shrimp tempura udon was probably the weakest of the things we ordered but I think the soup had togarashi in it so points for depth. The overall feel very much reminded me of an old favorite from my school days in Houston, a mom and pop shop where staff was literally the mom and pop, pop cooking in the back and mom doing everything else! The wait is long and the service is the best they can do given the understaffing but the food is bomb and that's all that counts to me. So I felt very much at home here. They were full when we arrived 45 min before closing, I was ready to order to go but they made an effort to seat us so I did not mind the wait for the table or the wait for anything else afterwards. I think they were trying to call in help when we arrived but not successful. Still, I would wait however long I need to. Staff was very friendly and even came to apologize for forgetting our waters which I didnt expect bc it was understandable given every table was filled and only 2 guys running back and forth. 10/10 would visit again next time we make a trip to the area!

It's hard to believe that such a great sushi shop exist in this little town. The food is great and there is a good size menu. There is no outdoor seating and there is a decent amount of seating inside. The prices are good. Service is great. I have been very happy with every visit so far. My only complaint will be the limited hours of operation; however, that seems to be a Los Alamos thing in g

This was my first time having sushi in New Mexico and it was decent. It's located in the heart of Los Alamos and open for dining in. When we arrived, we stood at the door for a few minutes before anyone came over to us, but other than that service was fine. I was a little afraid to try their nigiri and sashimi considering this restaurant is located 2 hours from the nearest major airport, so I stuck with their sushi rolls. Everything was drizzled in a lot of sauce and had a lot of rice, so it's definitely an Americanized sushi spot. My favorite was the Chile Relleno roll because I like cream cheese and green chile. The Santa Fe roll also had green chile in it, but was pretty plain. The pieces were also cut unevenly. I wouldn't recommend the Spider or Dynamite rolls because they were both a little fishy even with all the sauce. We also got an order of Monkey Brains and that is basically a thick layer of fried batter with a dollop of imitation crab and sauce. I didn't taste any mushrooms that it advertised. Overall it was worth a try since I've been craving sushi for months, but I wouldn't come here with high expectations if you've had sushi in bigger cities. We spent $100 for 4 rolls, an appetizer & 2 beers.

This is a nice sushi place for a small town. Service is good and food is tasty. I love the nigiri sushi and the miso soup. This is a good place for sushi.

Went there with the my vegetarian friend and the dishes we got exceeds my expectation! I loved the veggie roll and the veggie gyoza. Not a huge fan for my salmon curry though. The meat is kinda dry. Keep in mind that they also have complimentary miso soup and salad, I was way too stuffed after dinner. Miso soup is a tad bit too salty and salad has a tad bit too much dressing on it. Other than that, I think I could use a bit more wasabi for the tempura veggie roll.

I wanted to love this place. We were in the area after hiking and I wanted sushi. It was meh but a few highlights. We got in early before lunch. Service was steady for us. They got bizzy-bizzu and I could see the one chef making rolls got way behind while the other sashimi chef stood around. They've got combo lunch specials but we ordered a lot of diff stuff to share. The stars : Chile releno role. Great! Unique to is. Great flavor. Orange blossom roll. Beautiful and yum. 1. Korean beef was good. Needed the usual sides and stuff that come with it. 2. Bento box veggie tempura was a star. 3. Firecracker app. No. Just no. I took advice here and it was bad. It had nooooo flavor. Textures off. Pepper was off. It lacked salt. A basic thing. Search harder for a sushi place. Oh. The sushi bar area is cluttered and dirty. Not impressed.

Incognito spot (thought it was art supply store). Sushi better than expected. Fried chicken perfection.

Don't expect decent sushi high up in the mountains. Be forewarned of minuscule ingredients hidden in an inordinate amount of sriracha!

No sign that indicated that the hours that day were wrong. Nothing online. They even removed their Google listing. When we stopped in at 5:10pm, we walked in and there was no one at the counter. The waitress came by, ignored us, then went to bring food to another table. We awkwardly stood there, waiting for her to notice us (which she clearly did, because we stood right smack dab in the middle of the room while all the customers -- a grand amount of five, small tables -- stared at us and awkwardly acknowledged our presence with a "I don't know what's going on here either" look). Then, when we called for her, she gave us the angriest look and said, "you have to be here exactly at 5 or call at 4PM for take-out". Fine, message received. Today, we called at 4pm exactly for take-out. No one picked up. We called again. Then again. No one picked up, again. Never got a chance to try their sushi. Each time, we headed to Origami. I mean, I've heard that Cafe Sushi has "fresher" sushi, but is there any point if we haven't tried it at least once? I hate giving one star reviews to local businesses, but this is incredibly frustrating. We've given this place a good amount of chances, followed everything they said, both online and in person, and still, nothing. This is no way to run a business.

Happy Hour runs twice daily with reduced prices on food & beverages from 3-5p and 9-10p. They have an extensive sake menu categorized by flavor profile designed for pairings, along with a lean but modern wine list including detailed tasting notes. Japanese whisky and exotic green tea (try the kuki cha!) round out a full beverage program, and deep booths offer private views of the lush valley below. Chef Kiko Rodriguez offers a four-course tasting menu at an exceptional value for $65 - trying this or any of Paloma's suggestions from their fresh sushi menu (only restaurant in New Mexico with fish flown in from Japan daily) will surely please. Gloriously chilled tuna sashimi was thinly sliced cut with heat from fresh wasabi and a savory ginger shoyu. Hand rolls are served in pairs, and the spicy tuna was simple, elegant, and delightful - a perfect showcase of the freshest fish. Before switching to dessert, shaved ginger is also snappy and cleansing. I was absolutely mind blown by the Sakura Pannacotta - delicate and dreamy custard textured like chawanmushi with soft aromatic cherry blossom and the most delectable shortbread accent. Three light courses that were fully nourishing, absolutely satisfying, and delightfully delicious!
