It was crowded for a Sunday evening so we waited next door at Santa Fe Spirits (btw great whiskey!) for our food instead of inside the restaurant. We could tell it was crowded so if they offer reservations go for it so you can get a table. I enjoyed the soup buns, pork dumplings, scallion pancakes, and chicken egg rolls. Eventually when visiting New Mexico, you may get tired of eating stuff with green and/or red chiles dumped all over it and seek out a different kind of cuisine. This was the spot I found myself in about midway through my trip to Sante Fe, and happen to find this Asian spot pretty close to my hotel. The Yelp reviews checked out, and some of the photos really were enticing so I decided to give it a go on a chilly night. It's a simple but well appointed place, just outside the main downtown area, and really close to the main rail station.. just a block or two over. Walking in your are confronted with delicious smells and savory aromas, always a good sign. I took a seat and was helped promptly. I had seen glowing reviews about their hot and sour sweet potato rice noodle soups, and decided to get one with beef. I also can't help but get some dumpling, and went with the spicy shrimp ones. My soup came out first, and was in a nice large bowl filled up with hot soup. My first sip was so incredible, I could not wait to plow through the bowl, and I did just that. Spicy, sour, hearty, tender beef and noodles, lots of well cooked veggies... it all came together beautifully. This was the perfect dish with it being cold out. Shortly after, my dumplings arrived, and they were the perfect compliment to the soup. I even put a couple in there to soak up that hot and sour flavor, and that was just delightful. On their own, they were plenty good. I have no complaints about either item. This was the perfect change-up meal from all the New Mexican cuisine I had been having. We stopped in here for a snack because we had a super early dinner reservation. We ordered Steamed Shrimp dumplings which were absolutely delicious. Then we ordered a Sesame Chicken to share. I was not fond of this dish. I am used to more of a browner sauce. and usually sesame chicken comes with broccoli. This dish had zero veggies. The server was quick and friendly. For lunch yesterday, my wife and I stopped into this great spot on a whim, and I finally got to enjoy table service, which was very friendly. I ordered the shrimp fried rice, which came out quickly, piping hot, and delicious. It needed just a tad of heat-bringing spice, and the table-provided chile crisp was just the thing. There were lots of shrimp, and little explosions of nicely-plumped peas and corn kernels in every bite. My wife ordered the fried pork dumplings, which took an inexplicably long time to come out of the kitchen. The server apologized, but didn't explain the delay. However, they were large, perfectly fried, and very filling. She loved them, and luckily we were not in a hurry that day. We didn't order drinks other than water, but they have a decent selection of bottled sodas, beers, and mineral water on display, and they offer Thai tea, ginger tea, and iced teas as well. Very busy buisness, they had a lot of pick up orders and gets a little crowded. You can order on the kiosk and then sit in a table to dine in. It can take some time but it's worth it. Food was really good ordered some 2 orange chicken with white rice and Singapore chicken noodles, shrimp fried rice and pork buns all for a family of 5 it was enough and had some to go. The noodles to me were tasty but had a bit of to much curry taste. Ambiance was calm but they were just so busy tables are vintage home style and comfy. They are attentive and just check up on your order if you feel like they forgot to bring something from ur order to the table. *HUGE AND CHUNKY DUMPLING SUI MAIS FOUND HERE* Found this soothing Chinese food spot in Santa Fe downtown and it did not let us down! It is on a short walking distance from the vibrant Santa Fe Plaza area and has its own parking area too which is a little hard to find in the downtown area depending on the time you are there. The place was very clean with clean tables and the windows were covered with beautiful red cloths which kind of added to the fun vibe. The lighting was soft and warm, and the seating was comfortable for a quick or even a longer lunch. They also had soulful Chinese songs playing in the background which added a nice calm vibe!! Staff was extremely welcoming and sweet, and the service felt very sincere. The menu consists of many Chinese dishes such as pork and shrimp dumplings to stir frys to beef noodle soups, but something I have not regularly seen at these restaurants were the sweet potato glass noodles soups. Our order included the shrimp wonton soup, shrimp and pork sui mai and the special spicy beef noodle soup. The wontons and the sui mai were very fresh and tasty, cooked at the right temperature, hot and steamy and they were hugeeee and chunky too. The wonton soup broth had a bit of fishy taste, but overall tasted good. The special beef soup had a very earthy or ginseng like taste with flour noodles and very small seven to ten pieces of beef. The earthy taste definitely surprised me, and I thought the broth lacked a little bit of salt. The noodles also did not compliment the broth and were kind of heavy with a doughy and chewy bite. That is why I did not enjoy the soup as much, but still overall if someone wants to try something new then this could be their dish. Service felt a bit delayed but I guess to steam wontons it would take some time even during a lean afternoon. Other than that, all the dishes are decently priced and I would say much lower than the current restaurant rate going around for a bowl of soup. They were $13.99 and the wonton soups were at $12.99 which I thought was better than the market price. If I were you, I would definitely stick to the dumplings and the wontons during my next visit or maybe we all try their stir fry or rice dishes. Overall, I would like to rate my visit four out of five. I have one less point because they should have explained the flavor profiles of the soups and broths in a few words on their menu. read more

Dumpling Cafe is honestly great. The dumplings are clearly homemade -- hearty fillings wrapped in chewy, perfectly textured dough, not the generic frozen kind you find elsewhere. We loved the steamed shrimp dumplings, spicy pork wontons, and shrimp and pork shumai. The unexpected standout was the hot and sour beef noodle soup -- packed with flavor and just the right balance of spice and tang. Hidden gem! Don't miss the Sweet and Sour Beef Soup. I could not stop drinking this. We also had the spicy pork wontons, soup dumplings and fried wontons. First visit to Dumpling Cafe, but not my last. Today I came for Dumplings and kimchi! Main dishes look great on the other tables. Start eating the dumplings as soon as they cool, they are tender and may fall apart on the chop sticks or open a bit before you can dip them in soy sauce. I really appreciate the Condiment and Utensil station on the table. I was able to give my Kimchi a little more kick with the chili paste that was in the station. When you visiting New Mexico, you ought to feel duty-bound to eat as much of the native cuisine as possible, probably more so than in any state not named Louisiana. But sometimes you need a little break. For us, one of those times came at Dumpling Cafe, a modest dumpling-forward Chinese place a block from the Santa Fe Railyard. If you've had dim sum in New York or Vancouver or Houston or LA or San Francisco or even some smaller city with a significant Chinatown, your sights might be set pretty high. Lower them somewhat, and you'll find Dumpling Cafe relatively enjoyable. It's a charming little spot--one whole wall is filled with a wild variety of knick-knacks--and the staff is very friendly. The dumplings themselves may appear quite expensive ($10-12), but they're huge and come in orders of six, which is more than you get with most dim-sum items. (We over-ordered and had quite a nice collection of leftovers for the next evening after a long daytrip, and they were brought to new life (just a hint of extra flavor and crispiness) after a little pan-frying.) Not the most robust in flavor, but decent enough to be satisfying. The exception might have been the soup dumplings, which had an unfortunate technical problem: barely a drop of soup inside. That was frustrating and disappointing. Dumpling Cafe actually offers quite a bit more than dumplings: fried-rice dishes, a few standard Chinese-American entrees, noodle dishes, and so on. And a few non-Chinese things like bibimbap and seaweed salad. The seaweed salad was the only other thing we tried, and it was OK. 3.5 stars, rounded up. read more

Great find for Asian food in Santa Fe. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the place was packed on a Sunday evening around 7 PM. We tried the hot and sour soup and it is a big bowl with enough to share for people. We opted for beef in the hot and sour and it's similar to a finley sliced Korean style bulgogi. We also did the soup dumplings, which were very good a definite must. Our favorite was the seafood Singapore style noodles. Had a tinge of curry too which brought all the flavors together.
