Love me some Greek! And this is REAL Greek food! Sangria to start it, was good but nothing to write home about. Side Greek salad to kick off the meal, mild delicious dressing and a healthy portion of Feta on top. For the main dish I went with the Leg of Lamb combo plate, I'm not sure what was combo about it but I don't really care because it was fantastic! Small slices of lamb served over a bed of perfectly done rice pilaf, grilled onion and fresh parsley mixed in as well. Baklava for desert was also fantastic! Beautifully plated, not too sweet and served with 4 corners of whipped cream so you have the option to use the whipped cream or not. I'm from Detroit which has a Greek village with great Mediterranean/Greek cuisine, so this genre of food is important to me. This place nailed it! I highly recommend this restaurant. Read the updates! The food is OK and priced almost fairly. The service is poor, and you can tell the employees generally hate working there. The pictures provided are misleading, I have never seen table clothes (at all) or dishes like this ... everytime I go, I feel happy if the tables are just wiped off. You order on the way in, and pay on the way out ... in between someone drops it off at your table. I have had better gyro sandwiches elsewhere and the buffet is severely lacking in choice. Update: I think I may have been overly harsh in my original review, or they have improved somewhat - so I have upped them to 3stars. The Gyro is pretty good, but nothing to write home to ma about. The place is cleaner now, and I have now seen table clothes and cloth napkins. Update: This place continues to improve! So often, you see the opposite, dining establishments give up when things are going badly, and then decline steeply. This place keeps on chugging away and working hard to get better and better. Spacious restaurant that was able to accommodate a large group for lunch. There was no wait during lunch either. The service was really friendly and attentive. Ordered the Greek salad with chicken (~$10). The dish is huge and the chicken was very tender. The falafel plate with hummus was also pretty flavorful. I eat lunch here once a month- they are a good veg. option locally, the tunisian platter is interesting, diverse, and delish! Their Pita bread is served warm, nice touch. Their glasses of wine are reasonably priced and on the weekends they have live music. They often seem understaffed but the staff they do have works very hard to get everything done in a timely manner, I have never felt neglected here even though I often dine alone and during busy times. Came here for lunch during a Weekday. Overall the service is slow, prices are moderate to high for quality, the meat is grounded lamb and beef and leaves a oily residue in your mouth afterwards, but the salads are very good. Orders: 1) Gyro Combo Plate ($12.95): Slices of gyro meat, comes with Greek Salad and rice 2) Souvlaki Plate ($12.95): Kebabs that comes with Greek Salad and rice 3) Appetizer: Baba Ghanouj The meat tastes similar to hotdog meat, in which you can't tell what part of the animal they are using. Their kebabs are basically large chunks of gyro (ground up meat with spices) rather than actual meat chunks. Their rice, grilled vegetables, and salads are very good but unfortunately don't make up for their less appetizing gyros and kebabs. read more

Service has improved here greatly over the years; they are one of the few places in town that seems to be able to keep a consistent wait staff. Some patience and/or attention getting is occasionally required during busy times. A word of advice: while you can get a check brought to you, the culture of the place leans toward walking up to the counter to pay. The pita bread is freshly made and addictively delicious. I tend to go cheap and get the Giro salad (a Greek salad with Giro Meat) or the Giro sandwich with a salad instead of their unfortunately wonderful fries. The lamb kiffta burger is great too. Been here many times but this week was probably the worst as far as the food goes. Service was good, better than usual. Our appetizer of hummus and pita bread was tasty. Our orders were delivered shortly after. I had the usual chicken gyro and the chicken was dry and overcooked with no flavor. I commute to Los Alamos and typically go to lunch on Fridays. This is a place I find myself at once or twice a month. I've had everything on their vegetarian menu. I'm giving it 4 stars because it is one of the few places in Los Alamos that I WANT to go to, rather than just select to mix things up. The restaurant is nice, with glass over linens type dining. The waitstaff is sincere and try to keep your drinks filled even with a lunch crowd. You pay at the front or they will take care of your check. I think their Hummus leaves a lot to be desired and they serve their pita bred in very small slices that aren't great for scooping. They aren't super fast, but not the slowest either. Menu Review: falafel plate--I don't like falafel usually but they have a nice mixture of spices and extras on the plate. I recommend this, especially if you DO like falafel. tunisian combo plate- This is pretty good. It's lite with lots of options. mediterranean combo plate - I find this a little lacking. If you just want to eat pita bread as your staple then you'll be satisfied. I hope they add some flafel in the future or something. spanakopita plate - I like this meal the best. The serving of spanikopita is generous and it seems to be a little above the average from Greek places. I'm sure it's not home made, but it's the higher end of restaurant style CISCO offerings. The salad is well proportioned to the meal and I'm always satisfied with this choice. vegetable moussaka This thing comes out STEAMING hot. It's not spicy like some styles. I say go for it at least once. It's my second favorite option. The vegetables are well selected for the dish and "make sense" together. brik a l'oeuf - If you like subtle flavors and potatoes you might love this. It's kind of like eating kicked up mashed potatoes. It's a sort of pie or pastry filled with potatoes and an egg. This was my first time trying this establishment. Lived in Los Alamos for 7 years and worked up here for close to 15 and have never tried it. Go figure. I'm not a fan of lamb so I went with the chicken gyro. The chicken was marinated nicely and was tender. I didn't care for the pita bread as it was a little tuff to chew. And there was some type of dressing that was ok on the gyro. The fries were really good too. I went around lunch time so it was a little busy, but we were seated and waited on quickly for there only being a couple waiters working. The restaurant isn't very large so it is manageable. Never ran out of beverages and was always asked if we needed anything else. The price is average for the Los Alamos area and I wouldn't mind trying it again. And it's right next to the gym so after a workout I can grab a quick bite. read more

The hummus here is absolutely beyond compare. The pita bread is always so fresh and fluffy. I would recommend trying their hummus with green chile if you are adventurous. The lamb/vegetable kebobs are sublime. I also love their sandwich filled with roasted vegetables. The greek salad is wonderful. We go there for both lunches and dinners. It is walking distance from our house. It is a terrific place to get a meal "to go" as well. The owners make an effort to use local produce and meats. This is by far my favorite Los Alamos restaurant. We often comment that we couldn't get better food in Santa Fe. We usually see the owner there, a good sign. He is graceful about menu changes (I avoid carbs) and has good suggestions about alternatives. read more

Stopped for lunch the other day while touring the area with an out-of-town visitor. I found the food fairly mediocre and was disappointed since I read other reviews before dining. We started with the appetizer of humus, baba ganouj and tabouleh with pita. The pita was fresh and warm and quite tasty. Tastewise, I couldn't tell the difference between the baba ganouj and the humus and the tabouleh was so salty it was inedible. I followed that with a bowl of chicken lemon soup. I've eaten this dish many times and it as always had either rice or barley in it. This soup had potatoes--lots and lots of potatoes. A few potatoes might have made it an interesting variation--but instead, the potatoes seemed to substitute for the chicken as there were only a few bites of meat in the bowl. The food is standard fare for a mediterranean place, nothing special, but not bad. The service is also ok, not great, not bad. The place is weird though... the decor is straight from the hardware store, you know where most people go for interior decorating supplies... Once I was there when they dropped a napkin when bussing a table. No big deal, was destined for the laundry anyway. But, I watched employees walk past the downed napkin (in full view, middle of the floor, good lighting) about 20 times before someone bent over and picked it up. At least half of them walked by empty-handed and could have picked it up. It could have been a vignette in an indy comedy film for sure. Anyway, don't expect anything amazing, but what you do get will be tasty. I went there with my Lebanese monther-in-law and she wasn't impressed. But I'm not sure any restaurant in New Mexico would make good enough humus or dolmas to impress her. read more

Pretty much the only place in Los Alamos that actually has good food (unless you count Papa Murphy's). Delicious dolmas, hummus, gyros and baklava. I've always had acceptable service, which is also rare for Los Alamos. Glad it exists because I cringe every time someone wants to go to the bland, slow and overpriced brewpub or Blue Window restaurants nearby. We had the shwarma and spanikopita, both of which were excellent, and the pita bread is homemade and insanely good, brought straight from the oven to the table. The service is indifferent at best, and that's a big problem. The menu is extensive and had many familiar items typical to Greek-North African restaurants - gyros, shawarma, Greek salad, leg of lamb, and tagine. It also included Tunisian brika l'eouf, that I wish I had tried. Instead I ordered the one tagine on the menu which was described as preserved lemon chicken (one of my very favorite dishes ever!). Unfortunately the tagine turned out to be chunks of nicely cooked chicken breast, potatoes, a piece of carrot, Kalamata olives, and a large slice of unpreserved lemon drowned in Greek avgolomeno (lemon chicken soup), and not a particularly good version at that. I ordered rice rather than couscous and it was served on the side. This dish was clearly not what the menu described. We also ordered a gyro made with the traditional beef and lamb. Rather than thin, crispy slices of meat from the gyro cone, the meat was quite thick and much more like shawarma. It was, however quite tasty. As for the service, there was one waiter who was very nice and a single waitress whom we didn't see until she served our food. Both made themselves very scarce throughout the meal and we had to flag one of them down every time we needed a water/drink refill. We really wanted to like Pyramid Cafe, and perhaps if the tagine had been what the menu described we would've enjoyed it more. As long as your expectations aren't high and you stick to the less exotic offerings, Pyramid Cafe is an "okay" dining choice for Los Alamos. read more

It is in a shopping center and a bit tucked away and hard to find without much of a sign. Expectations were somewhat low for this workaday café. But the menu was interesting and it appeared to be a sort of all-Mediterranean fusion. They had Greek soups and Moroccan tagines and everything in between. Everything we had, from the soups to the Turkish coffee was great. The prices were very reasonable and the service was first-rate.
