He had the famous lomo saltado and I had the pescado apanado and both were delicious. It was hard not to become addicted to the green sauce...I think we finished a whole bottle between just 4 people. I love the pescado ceviche. It's fresh, tangy, fleshy, and spicy - to your preference. I love the sides as well: corn nuts, giant corn on the cob, sweet and white potato. I could eat it everyday. read more

Ordered the mariscos saltado. For a dive , the portions were small . It had too much salt in it and left a bad aftertaste in my mouth - maybe bad oil??? The flavors were weak as well . This neighborhood has half a dozen Peruvian restaurants - keep this one as your last choice . read more

This is definitely a great place to try authentic Peruvian food. Parking is a bit difficult because it's right on Van Nuys Blvd but it is worth it. I walked in thinking it would be kind of busy but there was only one more table occupied and the second we sat down were served menus and given a good amount of time to decide what we wanted to order. I ended up getting one of their fish dishes and it came in less than 15 minutes. Absolutely delicious and tasted very fresh. I would definitely recommend this place! read more

This place is indeed great! Food is flavorful, staff is super nice, and everything is fresh. I wish they would expand and open a nicer place for dinner in an upscale part of the valley (Sherman Oaks Woodland Hills) because this place is really only suitable for lunch. I have been eating here for about 3 years now and I always get the same plate "Lomo Saltado" it is always amazing. What I love most about this place is that unlike other Peruvian restaurants they give you a lot of meat! I live over 10 miles away and I will drive here when I crave it which says a lot. This deserves no less then 5 stars, from there delicious typical Peruvian cuisine to there very attentive service. Try the Lomo you won't regret it but if ur really hungry for some stellar seafood, the Jalea will do you just right. I love small business' with personal service, now I'm not sure if its family owned and operated but it seems so and that is a big green flag for me when it comes to leaving tips. On a side note if you go on the weekend they have a gentlemen with a small guitar playing some music of Peruvian culture which honestly creates a perfect ambience. Love this place my Peruvian girlfriend and I have decided that this is where we will eat when ever we want really good food at an amazingly affordable price. I have been looking for a decent peruvian spot in the valley ever since I was introduced to Mario's in the city. This place is definitely up there. Love this joint. The Lomo saltado is a baaaaaaaaaanger. The fries are crispy, the onions are tastey and the tomatoes are fresh as a mutha. The shrimp ceviche is also a go to of mine and is decent. But obviously the Lomo saltado is something else!!! If you like peruvian this is the spot to go to. read more

I was craving Peruvian food and the only good (or if any) Peruvian restaurant I know is Mamitas in Glendale. So I went on Yelp to see if there are any good Peruvian restaurants near where I live. I chose this place since there were multiple good reviews. RESULT? It's okay. I definitely won't come back though. I rather spend extra $ to drive to Mamitas. Puro Sabor's green sauce, food, service....everything was ranked lower than Mamitas. BTW, Mamitas is the first Peruvian restaurant I visited, so if the traditional Peruvian food is supposed to taste like this Puro Sabor, I genuinely apologize. Better than what I expected especially after reading some of the reviews. I went during lunch not knowing what to expect. I had the Salteado of beef and chicken. I loved the flavor. The service was good and will go back again soon to try other dishes. Parking can be a little difficult and the bad thing is the meter parking and having to get change. I hate when restaurants charge parking or that they hire some kind of service to park your car on some street that you could have parked the car yourself. In any event, I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys flavor in their food and have a menu that varies. read more

The food and the price was excellent! I first found out about Puro Sabor from LA mag's cheap eat article. I had a beef entree and the meat quality was good and the flavor was out of this world. Our first visit was days arter the Westways article featured this restaurant late Feb. They were overwhelmed - not prepared for this. Any reviews complaining about the slowness of service and seating may have to do with this. However, the food was worth the wait. I did not like my asian inspired chicken dish - I think the beggies came from a bag of frozen peas and carrots. The rest of our group had saltado and a fish dish with a bright sauce - very good. Pescado a lo macho is my favorite dish from here. Lightly breaded and fried fish, rings of unbreaded calamari, shrimp and a few mussels with nicely seasoned yellow cream sauce. Has a nice kick. And under pastas, the Tallarin Saltado con carne is very tasty as well. Good quality fresh rib eye steak strips sauteed with onions and tomatoes. The pumpkin donuts are okay. I've tried it once because it was novel to me. But definetly, try the little custard desserts here. here are two kinds. Leche Asada is soooo good. Kind of like creme brulee. And they have another that is like flan, with syrup. The waitresses are always very nice. But not all of them speak perfect English. They are all very nice and attentive. Anytime I need a ceviche fix, I go here - the shrimp ceviche, served with sweet and regular potato and fried corn. Amazing. I order it "picante", which is not very spicy. The other things on the menu that I tried are fine: fried camarones, lomo saltado, fish soups, and picarones for dessert. But always the ceviche. Don't go for ambience or great service; it's a small family-tun restaurant in a Van Nuys commercial area. Parking in back free, and I wouldn't worry about safety. I love, LOVE Peruvian food. While I am a huge fan of Mario's, I trusted my fellow Yelpers and tried Puro Sabor. I read countless raves comparing it to my favorite restaurant. Some reviewers even commented that it was better. I was excited! Puro Sabor is much closer to me. I really wanted to love it. I went there today. Mouth watering. Anticipating the explosion of flavor. I immediately ordered my favorite dish: Lomo Saltado. First to arrive was a basket of bread and the much loved Peruvian aji sauce (green sauce). It was fantastic! My excitement grew as I eagerly waited for my favorite dish. Much to my surprise, the food was absolutely awful. Aside from the fact that the portions were ridiculously small (there was maybe 5 fries on the whole plate), it was flavorless, the rice was hard, and the meat was tough. The other dish that we ordered was immediately returned as it was not even palatable. I was disappointed to say the least. The restaurant forgot that "SABOR" was in its name. For those Yelpers that compared this place to Mario's... I have to wonder. Do you also consider Taco Bell authentic Mexican food? For those of you that want REAL Peruvian food and a generous portion of mouth watering yumminess, go to Mario's. You will leave happy and beyond full. read more
